Minnie was dressed formally, she hadn’t thought her parents would want her to go to such an event, since she could be beginning her reading for the next semester, but when she had received the dress in the post and a communication from her parents encouraging her to attend the event, she knew she had to. Minnie had wanted to, so badly wanted to. The ravenclaw had just been thrilled to for once had the blessing of her parents to get stuck in and go to a school event. It helped that the dress they had sent was modest and lovely, it made her feel like the teen girls in the books she still occasionally read, the ones who had numerous female friends and boys who were actually interested in her, of the proms and dances where all of the drama would happen, where the characters would share a kiss, where the love interest in the book would cup the protagonists face, where one of their legs would move to be raised in a weird gesture she didn’t understand. Minnie was deep in her own thoughts when she arrived at the room, stumbling a little bit in the heels she’d worn, but she held her head high and walked in. She could see the people dancing and see the other kids having fun, but she didn’t want to dance, wasn’t sure she could in these shoes, she hadn’t yet found her grace. The ravenclaw got herself a little glass of lemonade and just stood looking at the different people. This was nice. She felt a little unsteady on her feet and they would be sore later but this was still nice.

Adorah was kind of excited for this dance. She had never been to a function like this before, as she had been homeschooled and excluded from these events her whole life. She wasn't going with anybody either - she figured she would show up and see if there was anybody she could talk to at the party. She finished getting dressed in her blue and green dress and looked in the mirror. It was conservative, yet fashionable. She had never worn anything this fancy, what with the tulle and length in the skirt. Thankfully, she had found flats that matched, as she had never been allowed to wear heels. Make sure her hair was tied back, she headed down to the Great Hall in hope of a good time.

Walking in, she began to admire all the decorations. The professors had really transformed the space into something spectacular. All the outfits were stunning, and Adorah felt a little overwhelmed by the whole ordeal. She began to walk around the space looking for a place to people watch when she noticed one of her roommates standing around. She decided to walk up to her - maybe this dance would allow her to better know her roommates. "You look really pretty, Minnie," she said, hoping to compliment the fellow Ravenclaw.

Minnie looked at the girl who spoke to her, Adorah, a roommate. She gave a little nervous and shy smile at the compliment, ”Thank you,” she had really tried for this event, put in more effort than she might’ve otherwise, had really given it quite a lot of effort. The dress wasn’t one she had picked out but she liked it a lot anyway. It was a perfect sort of dress, just conservative enough that she didn’t feel to exposed and that it then allowed her to be able to even attend such an event. She was pretty happy with it. She looked at her roommate and smiled, ”You look really nice too,” she returned the compliment, knowing it was both the right thing to do and also factually correct. ”Are you here with anyone?” she’d be surprised if any of the people in their year group was at this event with anyone. After all they were all too young to have time to connect with anyone on that level. Surely they were all busy like she was - to some extent. But she thought to ask anyway, Minnie could be wrong about things and maybe she’d be the only one in their year not there with someone.

Adorah smiled when Minnie complimented her outfit. "Thank you! It feels a little out of my comfort zone, but so does this whole dance thing." Dances made her pretty uncomfortable because they required a certain level of class that Adorah had just never been around. All the older students looked so elegant, and she felt like a pumpkin waiting to be turned into a beautiful carriage... but that had yet to happen. When Minnie asked her if she was here with anybody, Adorah blushed uncomfortabley and wrapped her arm around herself. "No, definitely not. Are you here with someone?" Was she supposed to have asked someone to the dance? She barely had friends, let alone friends that she liked like that.
