A Brotherhood-Sized Bet

Hilary couldn't control it anymore and tears began to fall down her face. The tears weren't of anger or sadness but more just a release of all of the emotions she had been feeling over the course of the whole scene. Revenge had gone sweetly and for that she was glad, by more importantly this scene had solidified a fact in her mind she had almost been doubting.... she had really good friends.

As she looked around their area of the lawn she saw the mix of emotions and didn't really want to blend hers in with everyone's but there was something she had to do. Wiping her tears away Hilary went over to where Kat was kneeling on the lawn with Rhyspa and Nina. Also crouching down beside her fellow Gryffindor she said softly but still sincere, holding back tears "Kat, I'm sorry for not really being a good friend with this, for playing the game, making him stronger...." Hilary took a deep breath and went to continue but instead she began to cry again.

Bruin Dumbledez, the strapping young Gryffindor Quidditch Captain, stood in the middle of the lawn in his bright yellow dress trying to make some sense of the relative success of his revenge plan, particularly in light of the mayhem that had just ensued. Bruin had spent the better part of the year acting distant from those closest to him and befriending a couple of the world's biggest losers; he was 20 galleons lighter in the pocketbook and still owed 10 hours of hard labour to Groundskeeper Willie; and he had not only worn a dress, but had actually flaunted the fact in front of a good portion of the student body and kissed Professor King, something he might never live down....and yet, for some odd reason it felt like it had all been worth it.

Bruin knew that he could have taken a shot at Dom and Nic just about anytime he wanted to, but it probably wouldn't have accomplished anything except ending up with a black eye or a bloody nose and losing something more important to him, his place at this school. Having been able to tell the two of them just what he thought of them and then getting to watch as first Kat and then Rhyspa punctuated that message with their well placed blows had been much more satisfying. And the day had not been a total disaster, of course...he had managed to receive kisses from five of the prettiest and most amazing girls at the school!!! Which, even by the most optimistic of estimates, was five more than he had received in his short lifetime.

Bruin, seemingly rooted to his spot on the lawn, watched as the girls began to congregate and the tears began to flow. Even though he was wearing a dress, he recognized that this was a true girl's moment if ever there was one. He took one final look around at the collection of friends that still remained and then turned quickly, his dress billowing in the warm summer breeze and made his way back towards the sanctuary of the Wizard's Retreat where he could throw on a pair of boxers, enjoy a butterbeer, collect his thoughts, and celebrate being a guy again. Of course, he'd also be changing the password used to gain entrance to the Brotherhood's Clubhouse so that the Durmstrang boys would no longer be able to invade the sanctity of the club that he was so proud of. A huge smile spread across Bruin's face as he relived the day's events and thought about all of the mischief and mayhem that was still to come.

Kailey too rushed over to Kats side quickly kneeling down by her side next to Rhyspa. Though when she got over there, she couldn't think of anything she could say. So even though she just parroted Rhyspas words, the meaning was just as sincere. "It's okay Kat... It's okay." she said softly looking at Rhyspa for maybe a bit of help as to what exactly she could do. As she had not been directly involved in the whole thing.

Nina looked over at Hilary softly and mouthed, Are you okay? Nina gave her a soft smile then looked down at the crying Katalina and said soothingly, "It's okay." The girls words were basically all the same but they all had the same meaning. Nina glanced over at Katalina's Ravenclaw friend that looked a year younger then her and mouthed, What happened? Nina didn't exactly expect an answer nor was she going to push for one she just didn't want to be totally out of the loop.

Kailey looked over at the hogwarts champion and quickly mouthed. I only know bits and pieces of it... which was pretty much true. Kailey had no direct involvement with the whole thing and only knew what Kat and Rhyspa had told her, but based on today she was pretty thankful that she hadn't been in it too much, and was saddened that her friends had been forced to.

Nina nodded her head softly then she turned her head back to the group to see some people still laughing and some looking at Kat crying, Nina furrowed her brow, perhaps she should leave, she didn't know this girl and she probably wanted to be with her friends at the moment. Nina sighed softly and she stood up to leave. With out a word Nina walked back to the tents.

Professor Traemore had spent most of that morning correcting exam papers and therefore thought she rightly deserved a few moments repaste outside in the fresh air. As she strolled across the lawn however she recognised a group of girls some who had taken her class this semester. She didn't need any 'Seer's' ability to know that something was seriously up with the group, far too many seemed to be upset and attempting to console. She picked up her pace just a small bit and walked as quietly to the group as she could, if her assistance was not needed she would leave them in peace but Avalon hated to see such fine young women in what could only be described as the 'throes of agony'.

Immediately she put it down to boy trouble, goodness knew she dealt with enough of it when she was their age but on the off chance that it was something greater she would not offer up those thoughts.
"Hello girls" her voice was kind and steady as she took in each girl before her, one imparticular kneeling on the grass had her face covered by her hands and seemed to be in a state of uncontrollable anguish, another girl was crying quite openly.

"Is everything all right?" Avalon had learnt enough healing spells on her travels and noticing now the red knuckles of the girl kneeling, she wondered who had been the recipient of her blow. None of the girls around her that was for sure, they were all too concerned about her. Kneeling down beside her Avalon removed her wand.
"You know that hand only needs a minor healing spell" she managed to refrain herself from saying that the girl would most likely need something alot stronger.

Zoe didn't know what to do when first, Katalina crouched down, and began to cry, then a few moments later Hilary did the same. There was so much emotion in that part of the lawn, she couldn't take it, and she didn't know what had even happned for them both to be crying. Kat had many people around her, and Zoe began to feel a little akward. As professor Traemore arrived, to help, she thought it best that she should leave.

Hoping not to be rude, but just to escape the tear-fest, Zoe gave Hat a consoling look, the person who seemed to be the real victim here, and she swiftly made her way back to the castle, as fast as her long legs would take her.

Hilary allowed the tears to fall without much thought. She had been holding back her emotions for almost the whole year, except for those she had for Nic, and even those had turned out to be fake. Hilary had little idea what Kat was actually feeling but guessed that they were similar feelings to hers. She noticed somewhere in the back of her mind the smile Nina gave her, though it didn't really register. She was caught in the moment and only vaguely recognized that people were leaving the lawn.

It wasn't until she spoke that Hilary noticed that a professor had joined their presence. Hilary quickly tried to wipe away her tears and pull herself together. It didn't work that well, but at least she heard the the professor was there to help them rather than to get people in trouble.

After a several long moments Kat finally managed to catch her breath and she watched at Bruin walked off towards the castle thinking that she'd give him time to himself, but first thing in the morning she was going to thank him. She was grateful for the friends she had surrounding her, but what she really wanted to do right now was be alone and take a nice hot bath then curl up in her bed and sleep. She sat there quietly and just went over everything that had happened within the last half hour or so, but then a woman who she only assumed to be a professor happened upon them. Well crud Kat thought, just knowing that she was going to be in quite a bit of trouble, but when the professor seemed only interested in helping her Kat said calmly, "I think it might just be bruised, but I'll go up to the hospital wing and have it looked at I promise."

Kat pushed herself up from the ground slowly, still feeling a bit dizzy from the recent bout of near hyperventilation. She cast a meaningful glance to each of the friends that were with her, but she had to have some time to clear her mind. Kat desperately hoped that the professor wouldn't think that she was rude for just leaving like this, in fact she'd find her later and apologize, but she had to get away from this place right now. "I'm sorry, but I really need to go...now!" she said and with that she took off in a sprint up to the castle.

Lily knowing her friend had been letting her have her space. She knew that too many people around her would make the situation only worse. She watched as everyone crowded around Kat, rolling her eyes at the fact that they did not know to give her some space after the trauma she just endured.

When Kat took off running to the castle, she turned and ran after her. Not necessarily to be right by her, but to make sure she got wherever she needed to safely.

Kailey watched Kat run off to the castle and saw that everyone seemed to be leaving. She bid her goodbyes and walked a slow walk up to the Ravenclaw dorms, going over the events of the day in her head as she did. When the got to the tower she went to her dorm and flopped down on her bed, ready to call it a day.

Professor Traemore did not mind that the girl got up almost immediately and excused herself. She wanted to tell her things would get better and whoever he was, was so not worth it but the young very rarely listened to the advice of their elders until it was too late. Avalon stood up as the girl left, noting that others began to leave as well, she turned to the other girl who had been so upset.
"And you? are you also alright?" how did you make the younger generations see that the world was only as complex as they themselves made it, otherwise it was such a wonderful place.
"Would you like to talk? or head off with your friends?" the offer was not one for her to feel as if she was about to tell tales, it was merely for the young girl to vent. Avalon looked kindly at her and waited.
