I was so pumped for the book, but now I'm actually really glad I didn't purchase it. I read through the majority of it while at Walmart -- lol -- , and I was quite disappointed. The quality is rubbish compared to the original series, and I don't consider it canon. I know it's a script so it reads differently, but even vividly imagining the scenes taking place, I couldn't feel or connect with any of the characters. It doesn't does not have the same charm as the original series, and it feels very slap dashed together. It's a fan fiction, which I have no problem with -- I LOVE fanfic -- , but this was poorly done, and the characters didn't even seem like themselves. Don't even get me started on how they didn't put </FONT>

Am I the only one who doesn't mind Scorpius and Albus not being together at the end of the book? I ship them as hard as you do, but you can so easily tell that their relationship is only just blossoming from just friends, and I'm not sure they'd instantly be a couple. You can tell Scorpius is in denial, so yes, I want them together, but I think it's too early for them to be realistically together.

Honestly, this whole Scorpibus thing is the least of my issues, but since we're going there, I have a huge issue with the fact that they were basically forcing Rose and Scorpius. There is no chemistry there at all and tbh it's not a healthy relationship at all. Albus and Scorpius as friends is fine, except there was definitely something else there. I've no problem with them not getting together by the end of the play, but I do take issue with the way they were presented and the fact that with the presence of Rose it's pretty clear that they are basically just putting Dramione in it. The whole play was just... ugh.

I feel really contrary now I quite like the Scorpius/Rose thing - again, it's not meant to last, but it does have a ringing truth of a teenage crush on someone who they know they won't get along with, but still has a crush on. I feel like Scorpius is denying his feelings for Albus and that posturing with Rose is part of that. Maybe I'm just reading it all wrong

I feel like even trying to give this script a go is going to open a whole bag of cats I really don't want to open for myself ... I'm very passionate about canon, and I will defend logically sound headcanon to the death. There's been bits and pieces of the original HP series (maybe large bits ) that haven't quite made sense, and over the years, I must have read thousands of fanfictions that have sensibly dealt with potential issues in an understandable and relatable fashion. Surely if a well-read fan of J.K.R's work can spot these issues and logically correct them, a fan-made play written with and endorsed by Rowling could only make things clearer and more exciting, right? Wrooooong. Even having not read the play (actually especially because I haven't), what parts that have been explained to me via online forums and HP resources are so ludicrous that I feel certain I couldn't be convinced of their legitimacy despite context.

It's like J.K.R's gone "I got a bit squiffy last night and I got these amaze ideas about what happened after everyone grew up! What do you mean, 'it doesn't make any sense,' I wrote the HP books, I can do wot I wants! Okay I maybe forgot a lot of the lore, but I'm J.K.R, they'll eat it up anyways ... Omg we gotta get someone to make this for us, they're probably filled with weird headcanon, too, and we'll mash it all together and disguise the vomitous tangled mass that is the time-travel plot behind an excellent budget for actors and production. I am a genius."

Don't know what you're talking about. Purchasing it is a method of acquisition. Borrowing it from a library is a method of acquisition. There are just lots and lots of... methods... to acquire it.

Ah, but the original post specifically said about not ordering it. Both purchasing and library loaning (at least for my library) often requires you to order in advance

Oh and I swear you get notified if you're mentioned; you disappear for months and then you suddenly reply within half a day

At any rate, as I continue my long slow slog through this book, one good thing that's come of it is the horse "thank dumbledore" in addition to "thank Merlin". (Though the idea that Dumbledore became a mythical figure within a quarter-century seems a bit off...)
And it's safe to assume that one day "Thank Potter" will be a phrase. XD

So I finally started to actually read the book because someone thought it was a good idea to give it to me for my birthday
So far, it's been okay, if a little dumb, but from everything I've heard it hasn't quite hit the ridiculous point yet.

I was like oh okay so I heard her scene was weird, but after the initial Hogwarts express scene I was like that's odd nothing happened, and didn't expect to see any more of her from then on.

BUT NO.

WHO DECIDED THAT WAS GOOD WRITING.

I accidentally picked up the book on release. I was in the Edinburgh branch of Waterstones and spotted tables stacked high with them. I just figured it was about a week or so in - I know, I failed as a true fan, I had no idea what date the release was - and hadn't heard anything about it other than it was "a continuation of Deathly Hallows".

Basically the point of this story is that I finished it that weekend, and as soon as I finished I purged my brain of any details other than the main plot.

The entire plot was a steaming pile of garbage if taken in the context it was intended - a serious contribution to official canon.

If I conveniently disregarded the small fact of JK being the author...it was an acceptable fanfiction.

It's been mentioned before, but the whole plot was full of holes big enough to fit the Hogwarts Express through, and it really lacked the distinctly Harry Potter feel we've come to expect from the series. The Trolley Lady and Ron made an absolutely mockery of the original books. This has an almost Phantom Menace feel about it in the way it was hyped up as the next great tale, only to then be a massive disappointment.

I did enjoy the book as a standalone. When taking into account the fact that Voldemort and Bellatrix had a secret daughter, who then went after her revenge using Cedric Diggory of all people as the crux of her entire scheme...badly thought through and a disappointing delivery.

I'm somewhat regretful that I even paid money and endorsed this.
