@Ryan Fisk vs. @Linden Cullen

Lena was surprised she had agreed to proctor the dueling tournament again, but it seemed like a good way to get involved before the baby came. She stood against the edge of the platform rather than taking a step up and looked at the two students. "Make sure to bow and follow all the rules. No spells above your year, please. Begin!"

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Ryan was fully aware he wasn't a very good duellist but he still liked signing up for the tournment each year regardless. He liked the chance to try out new spells even if it meant more often or not he experienced that by getting hit by them. Bowing to Linden, Ryan readied his wand, leveling it at Linden and after a moment of consideration, shot a tongue-tying jinx his way.

Linden wasn't totally sure why he had signed up for the duelling tournament. other than it was his last year and he felt some kind of need to prove himself as more than just a nothing, he toop a step up to stage and prepare himself he was pared against Ryan. someone who even after seven years he didn't know particularly well.
once professor Williams said they were good to start he bowed and was a little slow to ready his wand letting the other boy get the first spell off. "protago" he said before deciding on a spell of his own. deciding to follow in a opposite theme to Ryan casting the Babbling curse hoping that would help give him some advantage.

Babbling curses were certainly interesting, Ryan always wanted to know what it would force out, if anything coherent, but he always didn't want to get knocked out immediately, managing to bring up a non-verbal shield charm just in time to block Linden's spell. His non-verbal skills weren't the best yet but he could at least manage that. Keen to try something different, Ryan reset his stance and sent back a canary transfiguration hex.

Casper might have missed Lucas' duel, but in his defense it had been over so quickly. He wasn't going to let himself miss Lindens though. He slipped in, holding a smaller sign for Linden. It was more earthy, warm, with forest vibes. He had meant it to be simple, just doing Lindens name. But Cas was almost sure he'd forgotten how to do simple. He was regretting the signs again- he'd missed Lucas' because he'd been making the other boys. He pushed the thought aside, standing quietly in the crowd. He was too shy to cheer loudly, but he hoped he might be helping at least a little.

Linden watched as his spell was blocked by a soundless shield. Okay so Ryan could use non verbal magic. He was filing this away when a call from the audience distracted him for a second and he saw Casper there with a sign with his name on it. he smiled at his man when the spell hit him.
Suddenly the seventh year was gone and in his place was a large yellow bird. he ley out of chirp before he was back as himself in a rain of feather.s "Riktusempera" he said thinki that nothing was a better option to counter the transfiguration than a good Laugh.

Ryan didn't bother suppressing the pleased bark of laughter as his spell hit, content simply seeing the hex work successfully even if he hadn't managed a super long duration. "Did that feel weird?" He asked, almost belatedly remembering they were in fact actually duelling as Linden regained his faculties enough to send a spell back, causing Ryan to hurriedly step out the way. He'd been hit by that spell enough times to be familiar with its effects, taking a moment to consider his next move before casting the next spell that came to mind."Avis!" He said, conjuring the flock of birds about Linden's head. He'd spent too long thinking on his next move to do more than conjure, something that had cost him duels in the past, but Ryan couldn't help but grin at the flock of successfully replicated canaries now fluttering over the duelling platform.

Linden saw Ryan laughing and thought that his spell had hit. but it seemed that he was just actually laughing at him. Linden shrugged as Ryan asked if it felt weird. "not really. do you want to see what it's like?" he asked raising his wand. however soon he was distracted by a whistling around his head. he looked up to see a flock of small canaries above his head. "You really are liking the bird themes" he said ducking as one came flying at his head. "Oppugno" he said flicking his wand towards Ryan. hoping that they didn't get hurt. or at least hoping that they weren't real birds who could get hut.

"Yeah actually-" Ryan started when Linden returned his question about the canary hex, shaking his head quickly. He was actually doing pretty well today, if he could focus for a second. He nodded when Linden mentioned the birds. "They're interesting-" He started, cut off again when Linden suddenly turned his own flock against him. "Hey wait those are my-" Ryan raised his arms as the birds started pecking, fumbling for his wand to try and see if he could vanish them before they pecked something important. He stumbled before he could manage it though, the birds driving him off the platform with a clutter and flurry of wings.

Linden smiled when Ryan said that he wouldnt mind seeing what it felt ike to be a canary. "I will keep that noted for later" he said. it was funny this was possibly the longest conversation he said with Ryan after seven years. "I know I am going to study them after school" he said
as the birds attacked Ryan linden took a step forward. he hadn't used the spell before and hadn't expected them to be so aggressive. his hands flew to his mouth as the other boy fell off the stage. "Ryan" he said rushing to the edge of the stage as he waved his wand. the birds vanished replaced by a handful of leaves floating down to the floor. he hadn't vanished them. it felt bad vanishing them even if they weren't real. so he had switched them with leaves. he offered a hand to his classmate offering him a hand up. "did you want me to help heal some of those scratches?" he asked. he had had a fair few scratches from various animals over his time and had learned the basic healing spell to help with them.

Lena watched the seventh year's duel end and smiled as the Hufflepuff made his way down to help his opponent. "Mr. Cullen is the winner! Mr. Fisk, if you need to visit the hospital wing, please do." She placed her hands on top of her stomach to see if the older students needed anything else.
