Lena was glad to assist in proctoring again this year. She had enjoyed watching many students challenge themselves last year, and she while there would many heartbreaks today, she could at least try and keep everyone safe. Alright folks, I want to make sure you all bow before you start, and you should only being using spells your year and below. Keep it clean, and good luck!" she said before taking a step back to watch the students go at it.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours from this to post your first reply, or face disqualification. Once both duelists have posted, you will have 24 hours from your opponents post to reply, or be disqualified. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. Please also remember site rules apply, including power/god modding. You can find the site rules here. Duels will run until there is a winner or until 6 IRL days have passed, in which case the winner will be chosen by RNG. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

This year, Brooke as determined. Sydney had been a champion year after year and Brooke had never managed to make it futher than the second round. She hadn't had as much time to prep as she'd wanted, but she wasn't planning on taking any prisoners today, bowing quickly and immediately firing off a jelly-brain jinx

It had been several years since James had competed in a duelling tournament but he was confident that his skills had progressed enough that he could be competitive so he put himself forward. He bowed to his opponent and raised his wand to shield himself from the spell and fired a Stinging Hex back at her.

Brooke had braced herself after launching her first spell, unsurprised when James didn't immediately get taken out and pulling up a shield charm as he returned fire. "Petrificus totalus!" She shot back, deciding to keep it simple for now.

James was quick to cast a shielding charm to block the spell much to his relief, if it had hit him the duel would have been over. After catching his breath James raised his wand to point it back at Brooke. "Locomotor Mortis,"

Brooke tried not to let herself get distracted thinking about her next move, just manging to get a shield charm up in time and trying not to grimace at the sloppy reaction, instead putting all her effort into launching a Confundo towards James.

James had been hopeful that his spell would hit but Brooke managed to cast her shield charm at the last minute. He scrunched his face in disappointment but didn't take his eyes off his opponent and was able to get his own shielding charm up to block her offensive spell then pointed his wand at the stage beneath Brooke's feet. "Reducto,"

Brooke cursed herself for not realizing what exactly James was up to when he aimed his wand down, having to dodge hurriedly to the side as the stage burst near her feet. At least she had more time to retaliate, not having to waste time on a shield as she launched bat-bogey charm right back. She may have been caught off guard but she didn't want to make this easy.

James was glad he was able to cast a shielding charm to block the bat bogey hex, he'd been hit by one before and they were nasty. Raising his wand again and firing a Babbling curse at her. If she couldn't talk, she couldn't cast a spell.
