Leading the competitors of the first round to the duelling platform, Katherine gestured for each of them to take up a position at either end, while she herself stepped up to a podium overlooking them. With a tap of her wand in the air, the headmistress pointed the tip at her throat, speaking out in a magically-amplified voice. "Welcome, competitors, to the first round of duelling. As always, the victor of this round will move on to compete in the next, and is brought one step closer to becoming one of this year's duelling champions. Wands at the ready, and prepare yourselves for the duel ahead." Katherine called, giving the students an opportunity to take on a comfortable stance. "Now, bow and commence."​

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Aonghas wouldn't mind winning or losing this but he always enjoyed the duelling and wasn't going to give it up just because he wouldn't do anything with it. Not with this. He bowed to his opponent and took the necessary steps back. He raised his wand and then said, "Stupefy," start easy he figured

Blake had never needed the dueling tournament before, but now... this felt absolutely vital. Quidditch was stressful like never before after Mordred had punched him at practice, Jenna being at school was a constant nightmare, and the tension with Lars.... it was all too much. He needed something big to take his mind off his worries, a big win. It'd been a couple of years since he had won the tournaments, but Blake needed this. He didn't take his eyes off Aonghas as he bowed to the Hufflepuff, before launching into action, quickly blocking Aonghas's spell and firing back one of his own. "Langlock!"

Aonghas used the new protego spell that they'd learned in DADA recently. He could tell it wasn't as good a spell as his usual protego. He then followed up with a non-verbal stupefy.

Blake hoped this would be a quick duel, but he also knew that might be hoping for too much. He was ready to block, but Aonghas casting non-verbally took him off guard. Blake dodged quickly out of the way, his physical reflexes faster than his magical ones, and fired back with a quick silencing charm.

Blake was ready for Aonghas to cast non-verbally this time, blocking the spell with a quick shield charm. He didn't quite trust his own casting ability enough to go non-verbal himself, focusing instead on trying to hit Aonghas at an unexpected angle. Blake dove to the ground and rolled, taking aim at Aonghas and firing a spell at him as he moved. "Confundo!"

It startled him a little as Blake said the incantation rather than doing it non-verbally. He dodged out the way of the spell, but barely and then fired back with a non-verbal incendio.

Blake was more than experienced enough in competition to know when his opponent was rattled, and he was the momentary surprise on Aonghas's face. Taking advantage, Blake moved again as he shielded, and tried to come at Aonghas from another unexpected angle, shouting his spell louder this time. "STUPEFY!"
