For some years, their duels had come to an end, and their champions chosen. For others, however, this was it. The final round before they too would be named Champion for their year. Katherine lead her finalists to the stage, and appointed them a side each to take their stances, before resuming her usual position on her podium. "Duelists, prepare yourselves. This is your final chance to take the title of champion. Make it count. Now, bow and commence."

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!

As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Sydney was rather pleased that she was getting to face Simon in the finals, though she wasn't going to pull any punches. "Don't expect me to go easy on you," She said with a grin, bowing to Simon before launching off her first spell as Professor Alicastell called the start of the duel. "Confundo!"

Simon was looking forward to facing Sydney again this year. She had beaten him before and would probably do so again but he wasn't about to go down without a fair fight. She managed to fire off the first spell that he blocked easily before sending back his own spell. "Locomotor Mortis!"

Sydney was glad Simon didn't seem cowed by having to face her again, but he was going to have to do better than some first year spells to beat her. Blocking his spell, Sydney fired back her own. "Incendio!"

Simon wasn't quite quick enough to cast a shield spell in time and instead, he dove out of the way. He took only a second to straighten himself out before firing back. "Furnunculus!"

Sydney had to laugh as Simon scurried out the way of her spell, pulling up her own shield to block his hex before firing off her next spell. "Diffindo!" Sydney could still feel the slight draft in her robes from being hit by the same spell earlier, the cut having been healed, but she hadn't yet bothered to fix her robes. She wondered how Simon would fair against it too.

Simon smirked when he heard Sydney laugh. Good, it was better that she start to underestimate him. He was better prepared this time and was ready to cast a shield as Sydney's spell came at him quickly. He smirked before casting his next spell. "Stupefy!"

"Ugh, boring!" Sydney called when Simon cast a stunning spell at her. She was well used to blocking those, easily pulling up a shield. "If you're going to duel me, at least be more creative," She taunted, tossing back a stretching jinx. It likely wouldn't do much damage to Simon if it hit, but it would be entertaining.

Simon blocked Sydney's jinx, thankfully, and avoided a rather unfortunate physical experience. He laughed at her comment. "Doesn't have to be creative, just effective!" he countered. "Expelliarmus!"

Sydney clicked her tongue, blocking Simon's disarming spell with an irritable flick of her wand. She wanted to goad Simon more, but with Alicastell proctoring their duel, she couldn't risk giving her an exucse to unfairly disqualify her again. Instead, she focused on her spells, firing back a jelly-legs jinx.

Simon was waiting for some kind of remark from Sydney but instead she cast her next spell. He was caught a little off guard and didn't have time to cast a shield and had to dodge out of the way instead. Taking a deep breath he steadied himself before casting his next spell. "Incendio!"

"Cute dance moves," Sydney called as Simon was forced to dodge out of the way, pulling up a shield charm again. Sydney felt confident she had Simon the back foot, but she appreciated that he wasn't giving up without a fight. "Tarantallegra!"

"Thank you." Simon replied shortly, right after he blocked her next spell. "I'll make sure to save you a dance at the next ball." he said with a smug smile. He was proud he had held on for this long, but wasn't ready to tap out quite yet. "Confundo!"

"In your dreams," Sydney rolled her eyes at Simon's banter, blocking his spell but still smiling. Like she'd ever wanna dance with him. She couldn't wait to wipe that smug smile off his face. "Densaugeo!"

Simon chuckled at her reaction before quickly sending up a shielding spell. "You would be so lucky!" he countered sounding mildly offended, still smiling. "Petrificus Totalus!" he fired back, hoping that his teasing might cause her to slip.

Sydney could only scoff in response, block Simon's spell again. She was starting to get frustrated that she hadn't been able to hit Simon yet. It was so typical of him to be difficult about this, he was clearly out of his league duelling her, so why didn't he just give up already. Sourly, she returned fire with a conjunctivitis curse.

Simon may have gotten a little two comfortable because he stumbled a bit when he had to dodge to miss Sydney's next spell. For a terrifying moment his mind blanked as he tried to think of a next spell to cast. "Densaugeo!" he fired back, a little frantically.

Sydney was starting to get tired, she could feel it, but as she watched Simon scramble to defend himself, she felt some vindictive glee that he was also slowing down. Hoping to keep pressing her advantage, Sydney side-stepped Simon's spell as well, not wasting any time to fire back her own spell. Brute force hadn't been working, so with a grin, Sydney tried something different. "Silencio!"

Simon had to dodge Sydney's next attack but he smirked anyways. "If you want me to shut up so badly, you should have just asked." he said smugly and straightened himself out before firing back his own spell. "Incendio!"

Sydney just curled her lip in response to Simon's banter. She'd moved past enjoying their sparring to being actually annoyed that Simon was still standing. How very typical of him. Seeing an opening, Sydney braced herself, hissing as she let the incendio spell hit so she could immediately return fire with a leek jinx before wrenching off her burning robes. It'd put her in a disadvantage if Simon fired back, but hopefully he wouldn't get the chance.

Simon was honestly so surprised that his spell had landed he froze as Sydney quickly took off her robe. He immediately knew that she wouldn't let that one go so easily. He was still so shocked he didn't have time to cast a shield and again had to dodge out of the way. With out missing a beat he cast a knee-reversing hex even though he was sure it was only a matter a time before he was out.

Still annoyed, the smell of her smoldering robes nearby thick in the air, Sydney didn't have time to block Simon's shield, throwing herself out of the line of fire before launching her next spell. She tried to channel all her agitation and frustration with Simon in as she cast, slashing her wand fiercely. "Everte Statum!"

Sydney fired back her next spell so fast, Simon barely had time to utter the words to conjure a shield before it was too late and his spell was useless. He felt her spell hit him square in the chest as he was blown backwards. He felt his feet lift off for just a moment until he landed solidly on his back. The air was knocked out of him so completely he gasped to catch his breath. It took him a few moments to regain composure and stand up. "Good job" he said, still a little wheezy, and bowed politely. "But I was going easy on you. he lied with a smug grin. He in fact tried very hard but he knew it would drive Sydney crazy.

Sydney grinned as her spell nailed Simon and she watched him skid across the stage. She kept her wand leveled at him, but Simon seemed to know he'd been won, bowing to her, which she returned with a small incline of her head. Her satisfaction was short lived however when Simon grabbed he was going easy on her. She gripped her wand a little tighter, considering jinxing him again just to put him in his place, but it wasn't worth it, especially not with Alicastell looming nearby and her victory not yet officially declared. "You're always welcome for a rematch anytime in the SDA chamber," She said tightly, giving Simon a dangerous smile and forcing herself to lower her wand. He'd put up a good fight but she'd won, and she'd have that over him no matter how smug his dumb face was.
