Professor Styx leads the two contestants to the stage, appointing them into the north or south part of the stage. He reveals the rules as well as the point system. He walks off the stage and orders the duel to begin, as he keeps a watchful eye.
OOCOut of Character:
The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Sydney had been disappointed last year she hadn't gotten the chance to go up against Eric, since he'd not done well enough to even reach her in the later rounds. This year though, she had him first round, and she didn't have to worry about Professor Alicastell disqualifying her for any ridiculous slights. She nodded to Professor Styx before stepping onto the stage to face Eric, grinning sharply at him. "Nice to see you back for more punishment," She said lightly. Professor Styx gave the order to begin and Sydney did, barely finishing a short bow before she'd fired off her first spell, a Conjunctivitis curse.

Eric was glad to see he could go up against Sydney. It would be the perfect way to take revenge for her cursing him with the frog vomiting curse. He just needed to keep his temper under control. He couldn't get disqualified, again. He blocked her spell, gritting his teeth. "Shut up! Incendio!"

Sydney grinned when she saw Eric was already frustrated, throwing up a shield charm to block his spell and giving him a condescending look. "Nice try, good effort," She said pityingly before returning fire."Diffindo!"

Eric was trying his best to keep his temper in check, but Sydney was making it difficult. He grit his teeth, trying to ignore her as he blocked her spell. He had to focus. "Furnunculus!"

While Sydney didn't think Eric had an intelligent bone in his body, she was at least glad that he wasn't a complete bore when it came to duelling. Throwing up a shield again, she clicked he tongue at him, sending back a trip jinx.

Ava had an interest in few other duels outside of her own. The number may well have been zero, if not for the younger girl who had approached her to learn a spell she’d used the previous tournament. Now, Ava had a vested interest to see how well she would do since. Ava watched the two, enjoying the dynamic already, and silently judged the spell choices. A trip jinx, she would have never, though she was curious to see how the rest of it played out.

Eric hated that he had been paired with Sydney, he could already feel his control slipping. He just wanted her to leave him alone, to go away. The last thing he wanted was to lose to her. She would be so smug about it. He was almost too distracted by this to pay attention, and was too late to block Sydney's jinx. He tripped over nothing, falling down onto the stage with a string of curses. He scrambled up, aiming his wand in her general direction. "Stu-stupefy!" He called, though even as he did, he saw his shot would go past her without any effort on her part.

Sydney laughed as Eric went to the ground, even more amused when Eric made such a pathetic show of returning fire that she barely had to move aside to dodge it. As much as she enjoyed duelling as a chance to try out more interesting magic, she couldn't ignore the appeal of getting to put Eric in his place as well. "Confundo!" Sydney shot another spell, sneering at Eric on the ground.,"

This was getting out of hand quickly, and it frustrated Eric to no end. He managed to block Sydney's spell, but still felt a bit off-balance as he cast a spell back. "Incendio!" He cast again.

Sydney curled her lip as Eric kept flailing spells at her, blocking the incendio charm as well, not willing to have repeat from last year with that spell. Eric seemed off balance though, and Sydney decided to use a spell she knew would get to him. "Amphia Eructo!"

Eric was really trying to focus on the duel itself, but every time he looked at Sydney he reembered their last encounter in this very chamber. It made him more and more angry, remembering how she had completely humiliated him. And every time she blocked his spells, he felt a little more frustrated. There was no way around it, Sydney was better at casting spells than him. But when she cast her next spell, Eric saw red. It was the same spell she had used then, and he immediately thought back to that moment. How he'd had to drag himself, still vomiting up frogs, to the hospital wing alone. How she had laughed at him. He dodged the spell, threw his wand to the side and lunged at Sydney, attempting to punch her in a blind rage. At least he knew that would hurt, and that was what she deserved.

Sydney grinned, able to tell she'd crossed a line at the expression on Eric's face and loving how easy it had been to get under his skin. Her grin faltered when Eric threw his wand aside and launched himself at her and she let out a shout as his fist connected, falling to the ground and clutching her face. She should have known Eric couldn't keep himself under check to participate in a civilized duel for more than five seconds. "Get away, you a**hole!" She called out, her voice muffled by her hands as she tried to scoot away from Eric and across the stage, her own wand forgotten in the scuffle.

The duels were certainly interesting to watch, but Nova didn't think she'd ever lower herself to the level of performing like a dancing monkey for spectators to see. Still, she had to support Eric, even if she didn't agree with the tournament. It seemed to get heated, and a frown on Nova's face appeared as Sydney seemed to grasp the upper hand. Townsend sent a awful spell towards Eric, and Nova groaned as she watched her friend forgo the duel and sped towards the Slytherin. "Eric, no." Nova complained as she pushed through the crowd and pulled herself up onto the stage, trying to pull Eric off of Sydney.
