Professor Kain was looking forward to seeing how the students got on with their duelling. As one of the Charms professors he took pride in seeing the spells in use, and watching some of his own students practise with one another. He welcomed the next two students to their positions, taking his own at the front of the room “Once you have bowed, you may begin,” he said, giving them the go ahead to begin their duel, and keeping an eye on the event from afar.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Alistair had a lot of pent up emotions as of late, and the duelling tournament was the one thing he'd been looking forward to in order to just let go. He felt like he needed to battle it out to feel better, to vent his frustrations. When he faced Phoebe on the duelling platform, he offered her a friendly smile, grateful for her help in the past. As much as he wanted to properly thank her for it, he needed to win. Bowing toward the Ravenclaw, he drew himself up and raised his wand. "Graviatus."

Phoebe had rather hoped this match would come, though in her mind it had been the grand finale of the duelling tournament instead of the very first match. This meant that if she lost to Alistair again, she would be out of the tournament immediately. And as much as she liked to boast, she knew Alistair hadn't become the SDA president for nothing. She grinned at him as she bowed, then threw up a shield charm to block Alistair's first spell. It was one he had used last year too, and one she had wanted to learn. She grinned, glad he was immediately taking it seriously as well. "Obscuro!" She cast then.

Alistair was prepared for the defensive by the time Phoebe retaliated. "Depulso." He incanted, banishing the oncoming blindfold to a corner of the chamber. He followed up by slashing his wand at the Ravenclaw, and non-verbally casted a tongue-tying curse, hoping the silence would throw her off. He was grateful he'd been able to get a recent practice in with Willow to warm him up. He felt as if he needed to win this, and taking out his biggest competition first was the way to go.

Phoebe let out a laugh as Alistair banished the blindfold instead of simply blocking her spell. She wondered what was next, and tried to prepare for it. But she was somewhat thrown off by the nonverbal spell. Thankfully, the wand movement was still obvious to see. Phoebe had no idea what she was dodging, but managed to get out of the way. She whistled. "Fancy." She called, before casting a jelly fingers curse.

"Practice makes perfect." Alistair responded, defending himself from the oncoming spell with his own shielding charm. He'd hoped it would be enough to not verbalise his attack, and was reluctant to continue to try in case any further spell failed. "Petrificus Totalus." He incanted loudly, firing off the petrification spell.

As much as Phoebe wanted to banter back and forth, she knew it was more important to focus on the spells. She blocked Alistair's petrification spell, then sent a new spell his way as fast as she could. "Langlock!"

Alistair was taken aback by how quickly Phoebe followed up her defense with a spell, and quickly threw up a shield of his own. She was as eager to win as he was, and as much as he enjoyed the competition, he needed to be on high alert. The blonde tried to be just as quick in his retaliation, and cast a sleep bewitchment spell at Phoebe.

Phoebe had to duck out of the way of Alistair's next spell, as he was faster than she had expected. Deciding to try his own trick on him, Phoebe attempted a simple spell nonverbally. She guessed she had the most chance of success with a spell they had learned in their first year, so sent off a nonverbal disarming spell.

Stair raised his wand to prepare for another shield, watching as Phoebes wand moved, but no spell was called. “Protego?” He responded almost reflexively, half unsure if he’d fallen for a ploy to get him to shield early. He was reassured when a spell bounded off his defence, realising she’d gone for the nonverbal tactic two. He should have known two could play at this game, especially this late into their final year. “Stupefy!” He cast back.

Phoebe sighed when Alistair blocked her spell, at least somewhat satisfied with how uncertain he had sounded. At least it had almost worked, but almost wasn't going to help her win this match. She blocked his stunning spell with a shield charm. "Incarcerous!"

Alistair smiled to himself when Phoebe sighed, and raised his wand against the ropes she'd conjured. She sounded just as eager to finish as he felt. "Diffindo." He incanted, slicing through the thick bindings. They landed on either side of the platform, and he took a moment to relax. "You aren't getting tired, are you? We could take a break if you like." He offered, though with a quirk of his wand, he shot a slug-vomiting curse at the girl.

Phoebe blocked Alistair's spell, not bothering to reply to him until she had made sure she had done that. Keeping her talking to distract her would be a good strategy. "Nah, not tired at all. But you can take a nap if you want." She said with a grin. "Stupefy!"

Willow was glad with the outcome of her duel she had lost her hair but not her pride and it had been a good fight. She had decided to stick around and watch the older students duel and see if she could pick up some tips and support her friends. She knew the match between Alistair and phoebe would be a good one. She hoped Alistair would win as she has practiced with him a few weeks ago. And he has been a good teacher and as she has told him one of her families biggest secrets she felt like she was meant to support him. It was cool to watch them use non verbal magic to sent the duel to a new level it meant that some spells that could win a duel before like silencio or the langlock curse would not any more but it meant that you had to be more aware of the surroundings as there wasn’t as much as a telltale sign as to when to defend come on Alistair she called as he made a shot but it was defended by phoebe she hoped he would be able to block her shot.

”I’ll have to pass.” Alistair responded, raising a shield to stop her stunning spell. His attention wavered to Willow in the crowd, and a small smile touch his lips at her support. It was an unfamiliar experience to have someone backing him like this, particularly given that he was fighting one of the Ministers daughters, of all people. ”Expelliarmus!” He continued, returning his focus back to the duel at hand.

Phoebe heard someone cheering for Alistair, but paid it no mind. She knew her sisters would be cheering for her, except maybe Diana, and she knew that she could win this fight. She blocked Alistair's next spell. "Pertrificus totalus!" She called. "I really think you should take some rest!"

"Protego." Alistair incanted again. He tried not to let himself be distracted by her words, but the truth was that the constant back and forth was getting exhausting. It was close, and he couldn't be sure how much longer either of them could go on for before they wore themselves out. He wasn't going to allow himself to succumb to it first, however. "Sorry Phoebe. I had a cup of coffee with my wolfsbane this morning. I've got more than enough energy yet." He responded, non-verbally casting a jelly-brain jinx at the Ravenclaw in the midst of bantering back.

Phoebe was focusing on Alistair's words, but also keeping a close eye on his wand. When she saw it move, she automatically threw up a shield charm. First, she was embarrassed that she had done so without him casting, but then realized a spell had hit the shield. The sneaky snake! He'd cast a spell in the middle of saying a sentence! Phoebe was both impressed and annoyed. "Yeah whatever. Stupefy!" She said with force.

For a moment Alistair thought he had it, but frowned when Phoebe managed to block his sneaky spell. He didn’t linger on it for too long, and conjured another shield to defend himself. "Expelliarmus.” He tried again.
