Professor Styx leads the two contestants to the stage, appointing them into the north or south part of the stage. He reveals the rules as well as the point system. He walks off the stage and orders the duel to begin, as he keeps a watchful eye.

All right, make sure that you use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.

The duel begins now. If someone doesn't post after 24 hours, they are disqualified.
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

@October Alcott and @Odette Madison

October had considered not signing up for this year's dueling tournament at all, and it was a decision she still wasn't entirely certain about. Her humiliation over Tristan still weighed heavy on her, and October barely felt comfortable showing her face in public, keeping her head down in the hallways. It felt counterintuitive to sign up for something so public, but October had been dueling for years now, and it would feel a shame to give up in her final year. It was only when she saw the lineup that October was reminded she may be dueling Tristan once again, stomach twisting at the thought. She didn't especially want to face him again at all, especially not in circumstances where there was a chance she could lose a fight to him. It was a relief that she was matched with someone else first, doing her best to stay focused on Odette. October moved quickly as the duel began, shifting her stance slightly as she fired the first spell. "Oppugno!" She cast, a flock of furious bluebirds bursting from October's wand and striking for Odette's head.

Odette had won the duelling contest for her year last year, so she felt a bit a bit of pressure on her shoulders as she stepped onto the stage. Her first opponent was October Alcott, a girl she didn't really like. Their dislike for each other was too old to really consider, as she didn't think she had spoken to the Ravenclaw since their first year, but there was just something about her that rubbed Odette the wrong way. She was a little too perfect, both head girl and captain of her team, and always the first to answer questions in class. There was something about that that made Odette want to beat her. The girl's first spell was an impressive one, and Odette only barely managed to get a shield charm up in time, ducking behind it in reflex. Once the danger had passed, Odette sent a spell back at the girl. "Langlock!"

October gripped her wand firmly, focusing on Odette as she watched the other girl's response. It didn't surprise her that Odette was able to retaliate so quickly, and October was ready with a quick shield charm, blocking Odette's spell before firing back with one of her own. "Levicorpus!"

While at school, Maria usually did her best to avoid meddling in her daughters lives. Hogwarts was supposed to be a time of figuring yourself out without parents looming over your shoulder, so she hung back, only seeing her daughters when they came to say hi of their own volition. The dueling tournament, though, was something she wouldn't miss for the world. She was both worried about and excited for both of her daughters competing, and relieved that Emily had followed her advice to sit this one out. It was a lot to process and Maria's stomach twisted in knots as she watched Odette take to the stage, cheering loudly for her oldest daughter. It was nerve-wracking, watching Odette in a situation where she could get hurt, but Maria had faith in her, and watched on the edge of her seat as the duel raged on.

Odette was glad she was still remaining standing, and hoped she would outlast October. The girl was bound to slip up eventually. Odette shielded herself from October's spell, then shot another one off. "Stupefy!"

October knew full well that her biggest advantage in duels was her diminutive height, and it was easy to duck under Odette's spell, hoping to catch the girl off guard as she fired back a spell quickly, retaliating faster than she could have if she had shielded. "Langlock!"
