For the consideration of this argument, both are non-supernatural human beings. Ninjas don't have access to extra-dimensional vortex energy magic. The pirates aren't undead-Davey-Jones-fish pirates.
That having been said; who do you think would win in a fight?
Why?
Don't attack the person, attack the argument. :glare:

no contest really

Ninja :ph43r:

everytime... pwns

there are Japanese ninja's, chinese and even muslim ninja's
the Japanese ones are so my favourite:
Acording to legends Japanese ninjas or also known as shinobi are decedent from demons that are half-crow half-man these demons were called tengu. They lived in the forest they were master shape shifters and swords men.Ninjas where decendent from the tengu so ninjas fought in the night and followed bushido the way of the samurai

Pirates cute costumes on tv and movies but no real honour, no ethics, no principals at all.
Even thought the ninjas were paid mercenaries - they had all the above and major cool weapons

Well, I'd have to say ninjas.

In a question of which was better in general, I'd say pirates cause they have awesome personalities, especially when drunk. Think of Captain Jack Sparrow.

But in a fight, it would be the ninjas. They are stealthy and hard to detect, and usually land blows with perfect accuracy. Whereas the pirates, stereotypically loud, drunk, and bearded (I thought I had to add that in) are not at all stealthy, and the ninjas would see them coming a mile away. It's all about getting in quickly and landing the fatal blows. Pirates may be cunning, but ninjas are extremely sneaky and nearly invisible.
Now, the location is important, too. On land it's even easier for the ninjas. On a boat (ha, they're on a boat), the pirates may have some advantage - I mean, how would the ninjas even get on the boat anyway, unless they sailed up to them and boarded their vessel, which is not obvious or anything...plus, the pirates are in their own familiar territory, which they know like the back of their hands, provided they're not too drunk to see their hands. The ninjas would not be as familiar with the ship, so they'd have to quickly adapt to use their surroundings to their advantage. Plus, pirates have parrots. Very dangerous things, parrots.
Still, I'm going to say ninjas, as they're typically more accurate and usually have more skill in weaponry. And they're very, very stealthy.

And as the topic says ninas, out of pirates and ninas I'd say pirates. Unless you mean la nina, in which case the weather would pwn all.

Aw, it's been edited. :p

=))

you do make a very good arguement regarding the dangerous parrots
lethal buggers those...

I mean the bird droppings on the shoulder mixing with the unslightly dandruff, the bad teeth, the stench of alcohol and B.O, obvious laundry problems as well... a pirate is only lethal if you stand too close to him. The whiff would knock anyone out =))

don't know any other pirate half as cute as Jack Sparrow :r:

I'm with Pirates :arr:

I agree with Violet, that it would depend on where the fight was being held. On land I think I might say Ninga's would have an advantage but at sea, Pirates would crush the ninga's. On sea pirates wouldn't be that drunk as they'd need to be able to sail and navigate the ship to wherever it was going to go next to steal, murder and scare the living crap out of people.
Pirates have the advantage of having both a sword and sometimes a gun. On a pirate ship there would be many different people with different types of swords each man with a sword would be good with that form of the sword. While Ninga's can generally go undetected and also had swords, pirates would be stronger.
Okay so Ninga's would be very carefully trained and would be very good, Pirates are still a lot better and would win in a fight. Plus Pirates are a lot more often.

nope not buying it for a second..
sure yeah yeah on sea pirates rock but do they really?
sure they got cannons, guns and swords but if a ninja is at sea, they certainly won't be the ones doing the sailing. They have amazing balance so would find their sea legs as quick as. They can climb and use the rigging of the vessel to their advantage while the pirates would be all big and clunky or old and shrivelled. They can use the ninja stars to take out anyone attempting to use guns on them.

In close combat I think we need to stay focused on: here there is no contest. I mean this

I don't think so

I do apologize for double posting but this is such a serious topic

after this I rest my case...
A seaman meets a pirate in a bar, and talk turns to their adventures on the sea. The seaman notes that the pirate has a peg-leg, a hook, and an eye patch.
The seaman asks, "So, how did you end up with the peg-leg?" The pirate replies, "We were in a storm at sea, and I was swept overboard into a school of sharks. Just as my men were pulling me out, a shark bit my leg off."
"Wow!" said the seaman. "What about your hook"? "Well", replied the pirate, "We were boarding an enemy ship and were battling the other sailors with swords. One of the enemy cut my hand off."
"Incredible!" remarked the seaman. "How did you get the eye patch"? "A seagull dropping fell into my eye," replied the pirate.
"You lost your eye to a seagull dropping?," the sailor asked incredulously. "Well," said the pirate, "it was my first day with my hook"

What did the Ninja say to the Pirate?
Nothing. He was sent to kill him

and say no more please...

Ninja's are good but I don't think all pirates would've been pegged legged with eye patches. Isn't it that Vikings are almost always pictured with horns on the hats and yet this is apparently rubbish. Pirates would've been both young and athletic and old and needing a new way of life. Maybe through all the years the image of Pirates has been exaggerated, meaning that the only way to find out what they were really like back when they were the most feared thing on the seas. I mean we don't all own a Tardis and travel through time and space.

The picture made me laugh though.

I also found this website pretty useful in the debate

p.s
watch this
and this
as well, there are no Female Ninja's where as there are Female Pirate, making Pirates just plain awesome
and pirates have a song
The king and his men,
Stole the Queen from her bed,
And bound her in her Bones,
The seas be ours,
And by the powers,
Where we will, we'll roam.

Yo Ho, haul together,
Hoist the colours high,
Heave Ho, Theives and Beggars,
Never Shall We Die!

Some men have died,
And some are alive,
And others sail on the sea,
With the keys to the cage...
And the Devil to pay,
We lay to Fiddler's Green!

The Bell has been raised,
From it's watery grave...
Do you hear it's sepulchral tone?
We are a call to all,
Pay heed the squall,
And turn your sail toward home!

Yo Ho haul, together,
Hoist the colours high
Heave Ho, Theives and Beggars,
Never Shall We Die!
i believe Nicky should be going for pirates, after all he is one

So I think it can easily be argued that Pirates would win any fight in the day, and most likely any fight on the sea.
So that's 50% depending on the time of day.
Then they have a 70+% chance of winning depending on location.
If they're Somalian pirates they'll even fight well in the desert. *whistles*

I'm not saying Pirates > Ninjas is my personal opinion, just pointing out that their odds of winning are always fairly high. :)
And Linda, though I enjoy the strategies you employ to prove your point I can do just the same for the Pirates side:

against this. ;)

Aside: I think everybody can agree that a Ninja Pirate would win all fights?

As a Ninja m'self :)p) I'd have to say Pirates loose in fights all the time

1. Their pegged leg doesn't exactly keep things quiet when they are trying to sneak around to attack
2. Ninjas are stealth and have the best weapons
List of weapons Ninja's (may) have on their person:
a) Bokken
b) Bo
c) Katana
d) Shinken
e) Nodachi
f) Wakizachi
g) Shobo
List of weapons a pirate might have:
Sword and cannon

3. Even the laziest Ninja still has sneaking skills due to Ashiaros which are carved to look like an animal's paw, or a child's foot, allowing the ninja to leave tracks that most likely would not be noticed.
4. We are just amazing!

I'm fairly certain you're not trained in Ninjutsu.
Also, the entire premise of your argument is flawed. Pirates don't try to sneak around and attack. So saying their pegged leg prevents them is silly, because that's not what they do - at all. That would be like me arguing "Ninjas can't sail a ship, so they'd never catch the pirates, and the pirates could just shoot at them from the sea." It's obvious that Ninjas don't sail, it's not what they're known for at all, so it's a moot point.
And stop adhering to stereotypes. Pirates don't necessarily have a pegged leg, or a eye patch, or anything.

Sorry, I didn't read anything about pegged legs.
Also, your 'list of weapons' for pirates were also severely lacking.
They have like a billion types of swords (every pirate having stolen their own :r: ) and they usually also have:
[ul][li]A dagger
[li]Some sort of gun
[li]A ship (that has canons on it)[/li][/ul]
No ninja ever carries all those weapons you listed on them at once, so don't even try to think your fancy list impresses me at all. :p
Numerous of the things you listed were just swords, and both Bokken and Bo are just wooden swords. I know that they're deadly when used properly, but still - one gun shot and thhat ninja won't be using his Bo to take down a pirate. ;)

ah touché Nicolai - I do think that particular ninja with ribbon now as an extra weapon to his / her arsenal - very cute though.

ok the breakdown is roughly this then -

are a bunch of highly trained, special covert operatives ( ninja's) able to take on a bunch of untrained murderous thieves?

if going on the premise that the under-dog always wins you could think the pirates are a shoe in.

I would personally like to call it a tie but just watched a programme with Ross Kemp about modern pirates and there is nothing swashbuckling about them... they don't use swords but have all the latest guns, have no scruples about killing people and steal inorder to survive.

Ninja's are/ were highly paid mercenaries but pirates do it for themselves... which means they have more to lose in my opinion.
So though I love my ninja's and prefer them any day over pirates - I think if we are taking modern pirates/ ninja's into consideratiion - then pirates win <_<

Pirates would win. *nods*

"Ninjas and Pirates agree: Cowboys suck."
Agreed?

Does anyone have statistical points, based on number of 'fights' won / lost; affective use of weaponry; agility; training; and battle analysis? To out-rightly state that one group would win over another is in-correct.

The television show Deadliest Warrior attempts to analyse data to depict the winner of a battle. I have not seen a Pirate v Ninja episode, however, the Ninja lost when placed against a Spartan Warrior. In a direct attack, I would say the edge would go to Pirates; regardless of location. If planned, Ninjas could rather easily eliminate a target whilst it slept.

I think you are all being very unfair. Playing on the stereotypes of Pirates and Ninjas, especially with constant references to Jack Sparrow, will not win an arguement. Dunno about you, but I have very little knowledge of real pirates or ninjas, and isn't that what this debate was supposed to be about?

And I refuse to be prejudiced towards pirates because Pirates of the Carribean has an awesome theme song that my entire school orchestra is obsessed with.
