River absolutely loved Halloween. It was one of her favourite holidays by far. Who didn't love all the decorations and fun activities that Halloween encompassed? To be honest, River had never been to an actual Halloween party. Her mother had always considered it a waste of time, but that never stopped River was celebrating her own way. Most of her All Hallow's Eve nights were spent reading horror stories with her older sister, dressing up, and secretly eating candy while her mother was at work. It was never a disappointment, but now the young Slytherin girl had the actual chance to attend a real Halloween Party.

For this reason, River went all out with her costume. Zombies were a classic Halloween costume and River made sure to add all the gore. Hopefully she would not scare anyone too badly, but who didn't love a good scare on Halloween. River's costume included lots of fake blood. Her hair was more of a dull brown this evening. She almost wondered if anyone would recognized her with a more natural hair color. She had been wearing bright colours since arriving to Hogwarts. Her eyes were creepy light blue making her black pupils stand out. Honestly she would be freaked out if she saw herself out in public. But wasn't that the point?

River entered the Great Hall, blown away by the amount of work everyone put into the decorations. The amount of pumpkins and spiderwebs were more decorations than River had ever seen in her life. The young girl looked up at the night sky, it was eerily beautiful. The smile spread across her face, which would normally be a nice smile, but tonight it looked creepy. The young Slytherin walked around the Great Hall, noticing the Haunted Tent. Oh how she wanted to do that first, but instead she decided to look around for someone to come with her. It was less fun alone, River knew that. Waiting outside the tent, River glanced around the Great Hall, loving how into this holiday most of the other students were. In an odd way, she finally felt accepted at Hogwarts, around people that had the same interests as her.

Jenna felt a bit weird about Halloween this year. She had never really done the traditional Halloween things before, other than dressing up at primary school with friends, and even that had felt different to this. It seemed like Halloween was a really big deal at Hogwarts, and she wasn't sure how much effort to put in. Jenna had kind of thought her dressing up days were behind her, it all felt a little silly and childish, but she didn't want to not fit in. That would be the worst. So she had dug up an old t-shirt with the superman logo on it, and decided to call that a costume. It was low-effort enough that if people at Hogwarts thought Halloween was silly and little-kidsy she could explain it off, but she was still technically dressed up.

Jenna was shocked, then, when she arrived at the Great Hall and discovered that people at Hogwarts definitely didn't seem to think Halloween was silly. Everyone was dressed up in such elaborate costumes, and Jenna knew she would need to plan something MUCH more spectacular for next year. Still, even though her costume was kind of lame, she wasn't going to leave now. Looking around the room, she couldn't help pulling a face when she saw what she... thought was a familiar face. She barely recognised her roommate though, giving River a wary look. "Ewwwww, you look gross!" She exclaimed, trying to suppress her disgust behind a smile. "That must have taken ages, you look nothing like usual!"

River had been caught up looking at the eerie night sky. She loved that every once and awhile a black bat flew by. This truly was going to be a magical Halloween, all cliches included of course. The young girl was broken out of her zoning as she heard a slightly familiar voice. The young Slytherin looked towards the voice, seeing one of her dorm mates, another Slytherin girl she wasn’t sure exactly the name of. River hadn’t really gotten to know her roommates too much. She was more invested in classes and writing for the Hogwarts Monthly. She wanted to get to know them of course, one of the best parts of school was making new friends and meeting new people. And all this freedom she thought absentmindedly.

River was not sure the girl was complimenting her or was truly disgusted by River’s costume. Either way that worked in River’s favor. “Oh thanks!” She said happily flashing the girl a rather disgusting smile, the fake blood dribbling down her chin slightly. “Honestly the clothing part was pretty easy! Just had to cut up an old outfit.” River said honestly thinking about her costume. “But the makeup did take awhile to get just right.” She admitted looking at the other girl’s costume. She seemed to be a muggle superhero while she was wearing a Superman logo on her t shirt. River had never seen the Superman movies but she did know of the superhero vaguely. “You went as a superhero. That’s pretty cool.” She said kindly.

River glanced around the Halloween decorated Great Hall for a moment. It was amazing. “Hogwarts certainly goes all out.” She said excited to the young girl. “I’ve never been to a party like this.” She said with another smile. It was the truth and sounded a lot less sad than never being to a party at all.
