Nia had dreaded the holiday, because it meant having to see her parents and tell them the truth about her potions grade. Well more so to her mum, who'd been very disappointed in her. Had said she'd need to do better and should take a look at Hera who, like always, was the picture perfect child. The family pride. Though Mania had invited one of her best friends, Callie, over to stay with her family at the family estate in Greece. She'd been with them for a few days already and even though the Gryffindor had tried to be on her best behaviour it still had not been enough. There had been a few times where her mum would have corrected her or just cast a disapproving look her way. It was to a point that Mania felt completely out of her element.

Right now she was sat outside with Callie in the basking sun thinking of what to do. "Is there anything in particular you'd like to do today? We could go swimming in the pool? Though no jumping, my mum will have a fit and also no walking inside before you have completely dried yourself. Sorry she's very precise about the way the house we live in at the moment looks like." And that was Mania putting it lightly. She'd already been told off for eating the wrong way, for being too loud, for getting dirt on the couch and what not in front of poor Callie. The brunette was half afraid this trip would cost her her best friend. Suddenly her hazel eyes gained a gleam to them as she suggested the next idea. "Oor we could go have a look at my mum's potions, she has quite the collection." They'd just need to not get caught.

And Callie had thought her family was bad. The Athanasious had everything: good genes, a beautiful house complete with a swimming pool, and more money than they could possibly know how to spend... Any girl would have dreamed to be one of their siblings, to be so beautiful and to live in such luxury. Callie certainly did. Yet as the end of her week-long stay approached, she almost found herself looking forward to going home. All right, her grandmother was strict at times, and liable to have a meltdown if someone forgot to take their shoes off at the door, but at least her heart was in the right place. Callie had begun to wonder if Nia's mother had a heart at all. There was probably just a big empty hole in her chest. The disapproving looks, the tuts and sighs, the endless criticism - it wasn't to shape Nia into a better person, but to make herself feel better for a while. She was totally insufferable, and vapid to boot.

Callie's stay hadn't all been bad. There had been peaceful moments, like this one, sitting out on the sun loungers with glasses of lemonade, dipping in and out of the pool when they got too hot. Staying outside had seemed a safe bet and the girls had made the most of the beautiful weather. It was just a shame that the whole week had been tainted by Nia's horrible mother. Even when she was out of sight, Callie kept wondering when she was going to appear again with some new ridiculous complaint.

Callie had tried to help keep her out of trouble. She had plenty of practice catering to the unreasonable demands of a perfectionist, and as a guest in the villa, it only felt right to keep the peace. But the week was nearly over, and she was starting to feel restless. So when Nia suggested checking out her mum's potions, instead of protesting Callie grinned. "Now that I want to see. Where does she keep them?" She finished her lemonade in a few gulps and hopped over the lounger. "I told you, my gran's the same. Well, no - she's not nearly as bad. But she does go on. 'Don't touch this, don't move that' - she doesn't even let people use her dishes. It's like we live in a show house."

Mania was glad her best friend was instantly in on her plan. She took a sip of her lemonade before sitting up from her seat and stretching. "Ah... Their bathroom in a medicine cabinet I think most of it?" That would be a challenge getting into the bathroom connected to her parents bedroom, though lucky for them she'd done it before. "Alright let's go, my mum should be tending to her garden right now anyways because and I do quote 'never waste perfectly good sunny day sitting around inside when you can be productive outside. Especially not on one of those d*mn phones your cousins go crazy over.'" Nia mimicked her mother's voice the best to her ability, with the heavy Greek accent.

She took Callie's hand into hers after slipping on her shoes and started pulling them towards the house, the strat was to not be caught by Hera or any of the snitchy sisters and they'd be fine. "Oh we gotta be quiet, Hecate might be sleeping." She whispered to Callie, referring to the newest addition to their already too large of a family. Seriously for people who seemed to hate kids they sure kept making more, perhaps they were just wishing for a boy at this point. To keep their branch of the family tree going, with the name or whatever silly borderline political things adults even were thinking. Nia had shed her shoes before entering the house and she was now eagerly creeping towards the grand staircase, because of course their bedroom was on the second floor. "Alright let's just hope baba isn't there." Nia whispered to Callie about her dad. She saw the nursery door adjacent to her parents room open and that it was dark, indicating the baby was in there. Thank Merlin. She opened the door to find the room empty, good good. "Coast is clear come on," The Gryffindor said ushering her friend in with her.

Callie giggled, although Nia's accuracy in impersonating her mother was almost unsettling. "Don't get me started on phones," she said. The first day of school still haunted her. To be fair, now that she'd gone a whole year without her phone, she'd stopped missing social media. The only thing she really missed was being able to talk to Aster. She still hadn't got in touch since she'd been home. How was she supposed to make him feel better when she couldn't even tell him the truth about where she'd been?

She trod lightly through the house, following Nia up the enormous staircase. Did its grandeur ever wear off, she wondered? Did Nia look at the foyer and think about how crazy it was to live in this place? Or was it just her normal? There were people who would have called Callie rich, after all, but she rarely thought about how lucky she was. She never thought about how lucky she was. She'd never known anything else.

"It's not locked?" she asked, as they slipped inside. "She trusts you far too much. Oh, I feel bad about this. It must be a trap, Nia."

Mania let out a quiet huff of laugh at the phones comment, she still remembered the practical meltdown and the fight following it they had experienced on their first night at Hogwarts. It was crazy to think that that had been a year ago. As she pulled Callie through the house there wasn't much that phased her, the place seemed cold and uninviting in all its glory. It wasn't a home, never had been.

The Gryffindor raised a brow and turned to look at her best friend who seemed to be regretting their decision. "No they just have no locking doors policy so they don't bother either. Mainly because we know it's not great to snoop around and getting caught will end with trouble. Though when have I ever backed down from trouble?" Nia gave a grin pulling Callie further in. The medicine cabinet might actually be locked she had no idea.

She entered the bathroom and beelined for the cabinet, trying her luck but of course it was locked. She let out a long sigh before remembering a movie they watched with her cousins last summer. Looking around Mania spotted a bobby pin and reached for it. "I saw them do this in a movie once," The brunette explained as she began trying to lock pick the cabinet.

Callie would never have relied on a policy to keep people out of places they shouldn't be. Especially people like Nia. Still, it was all the better for the girls now as they stole across the bedroom and went into the en-suite. Alas, their luck run out when Nia tried the cabinet door. "That's not going to work," she said, as the bobby pin came out. "Maybe she keeps the key nearby." The bathroom shelves were stacked with fancy lotions and fluffy towels. Callie felt around behind them, on top the cabinet, underneath the sink, but there was no key. Then it hit her. "Maybe there isn't a key. Maybe she locks it with magic. God, we are so dead if she comes upstairs right now."

Mania frowned as her bobby pin wasn't working. They made it look so easy in the movies. She huffed as she took the now bent up pin out of the lock and listened to Callie who had began searching for the key, to no avail. She groaned as her best friend stated the obvious. OF COURSE, WHY HADN'T SHE THOUGHT OF THAT. "Why of course she must have! D*mn adults and their magic! They use it for everything while we are left unable to practice outside of school until a bit older." As Mania finished her mini rant she heard steps and then it was too late as her mum was standing my the door. Sofia Athanasiou was beautiful, but she looked angrier than Nia had seen her in a while. Swallowing thickly the Gryffindor lowered her head in shame and began apologizing. "Sorry mama I was-" It didn't get too far when her mama raised her hand in a motion to stay quiet.

Pretend this is (I'm lazy and god knows i should not make any more characters!!!)
Sofia Athanasiou

"Mania Zoe Athanasiou. What have I been telling you this entire summer? To just stay out of trouble for once. Do you listen? of course you don't now you have corrupted your perfectly polite friend Callie here to do these stupid things with you, Calliope dear I am sorry for the influence she has on you, she's just too wild for her own good." As Sofia addressed her second born daughter's friend there was not an ounce of warmth in her tone. It was always a hassle with Menace around, she had been like that since she was a baby. "Now pray tell, what are you doing at my potion cabinet? I sure hope you aren't trying to break in. Not with that P grade of yours in potions anyways," She all but scoffed. Seriously Nia had everything she needed to do well in Potions, the one subject she'd grown up around, yet she only managed to do well in History.

It really wasn't fair. How were they supposed to improve when they weren't allowed to cast a single spell outside of school? And that was a rule Callie didn't feel like breaking. She drew the line at the ministry getting involved.

Sofia Athanasiou walked around like she had silencing charms on her shoes. Callie froze, eyes darting between the formidable woman and her best friend, who was going to have a jolly difficult time explaining why she was standing in front of her potions cabinet with a bobby bin. This was all Callie's fault. Well, no, it wasn't her fault at all, but if she hadn't been here, then Nia would never have tried to show her the potions, and she might not have got into all this extra trouble. What would her mother do? Ground her? Forbid her from having friends over ever again?

"It was me," Callie said, stepping forward. She was already in the lady's bad books now. It couldn't get much worse. "I had a headache, and I really didn't want to bother you. I should have just asked. I'm so sorry, Mrs. Athanasiou."

Mania's eyes widened as Callie stepped in to try and take the blame. That wasn't fair, it had been her idea. "It wasn't her idea! I suggested it." Mania said quietly, she wouldn't let her best friend be subjected to her mama's scolding. Not when it had been her idea. "Mama, I told you it was all theory, I had hard time adjusting. I didn't do poorly on purpose.." She tried to defend herself but her mum's face said it all. There wasn't much she could do to change the coldness of her expression.

Sofia wasn't the least bit amused nor impressed by her daughters friends attempt at taking the blame. With her thick accent she interjected as Mania now too was taking the blame. "Callie, I know my daughter and this was on her. I have no doubt and Nia as for you I expect better next year. Now hurry along get out of here and stay out of trouble or Nia won't be allowed friends over ever again." She wasn't completely heartless, she'd give her one more chance but another mess up and Nia would spend her future holidays just between the family.
