Lesson Four: Learning Scriopea (quill into spoon)
Leif sat behind his desk for a change, working on some of his other lesson materials while his first year students slowly started finding their way into his classroom. He looked up when he noticed most of them were there, getting up from behind his desk to close the door. "Welcome back," He greeted them as he moved back towards his desk. "To get started today, I'd like you to take out your quills." He heard some of the students mumbling under their breath, sure they had remembered him mentioning they'd be doing wandwork today. He smirked as he looked at some of the mumbling students.

"Now, take out your wands." Leif added, and a few of the students looked puzzled. He turned around and grabbed his own quill from the desk. "Today we are going to change our quills into spoons. In transfiguration, concentration and imagination are key. If you can't mentally visualise the outcome of your spell, it isn't going to work well. You are altering the very molecules that make up an object, so I'm sure you can see how important it is to concentrate. In most of the transfigurations that we will be doing we will be using the 'three tap' method. For this particular transfiguration, the incantation is Scriopea. Now watch me..." Professor Odegard held his wand to his quill, tapped it three times and said "Scriopea". With a soft noise, his quill flipped around and turned into a silver spoon, with feathery patterns lined through its metal to hint at what it had once been. He picked up his new spoon and held it up to the class. "This is what you should end up with, though the types of spoons will vary depending on each of you. For instance, this spoon is of silver, but the first time some students perform this, it's quite literally a little rusty. You may also be wondering, "Professor, how is it important for us to turn a quill into a spoon?". The answer is that it isn't. This will hardly be practical in your day to day life. What is important is learning how these Transfigurations work, and gaining experience through them, no matter how random or mundane the items may be." He smiled at the class. "Now, don't forget, three taps, and 'Scriopea'. I will be walking around as you do this, so if you need any help just raise your hand. At the end of class, line up at the door and I will change your spoons back into your quills." Leif held up his spoon and with another tap of his wand, it became a quill.

Note: "Finite" is a counter-spell, not Untransfiguration, and shouldn't be used to reverse any transfigurations.

Roleplay trying to turn your quill into a spoon for full marks.

Clearly studying with Jonah was a good idea, though he didn't think he'd ever say that. He liked how things were progressing so far in his studies, it was just easier to have things as they were. He took out his quill and wand, eager to give the spell a try. He placed the quill in front of him and focused as hard as he could on the image of a spoon. His mind wandered briefly - did it need to be like the professor's spoon or could he imagine his own? He shook off the distraction as best he could, remembering that Demi told him to think about something easy so it was easier to bring his mind back. He tapped his quill three times and said "Scriopea" with as much conviction as he could gather. Nothing happened at first, which was expected, and as he looked around he noted several others also struggling, which made him feel mildly better. He tried again and this time the spoon (with a thing handle) appeared in front of him. It wasn't anything special, certainly not the kind old women would collect for their wall, but it was good all the same - at least he thought so. He held his spoon up with a grin, letting the Professor know he'd finished mostly successfully before he'd left the classroom in search of Demi.

Despite her adamance that she was going to spend more time this semester getting to know the friends she was already making, Tori had actually not done anything more than study. She woke up with a headache, went to the library with a headache and then went to bed with a headache and honestly she'd started blaming the textbooks. She'd never been a reader and now that she's constantly having to read all the time (and it's not even for fun!) she felt like she's probably not getting enough sleep. Honestly she needed a holiday and she had been hoping that Brightstone would help, but so far no such luck. She needed to talk to someone, maybe Eoghan, about a better study practice because she was sure he's going to know how to get her brain to work right, even if she has to beg him and she didn't really think she would need to do that - hopefully.

Her heart races a little when the professor finally told them to take their wands out, excited that they would finally get to do some spell work today. It's one of the things she had started to dislike about school, all the dang theory. She'd never been a reader and they were forcing her to read textbooks she really had no reason to read. She had always learned things better by doing them, rather than reading about them. Turning a quill into a spoon was hardly thrilling, but she was determined to have it right. She wanted to be good at spells, and so far so good on that. She'd had success with most of the spells she'd been learning this year so hopefully this one wouldn't be too different, though they had told her repeatedly that transfiguration was a different beast all together. She placed her quill on the desk, focused on picturing a spoon as clearly as she could and then tapped her wand three times. "Scriopea!" She sort of whisper-yelled, holding her breath. The quill wobbled, then stiffened into something vaguely spoon-shaped, though still very clearly a quill. She grit her teeth in annoyance, but concentrated on the quill again and imagined it turning into one of the spoons in her mum's spoon drawer, the little one with the stars on it. After a couple more tries, she managed to get the tip to be rounded like a spoon, even if the feathered end remained stubbornly quill-like. Not perfect, but closer!

Winnie walked into the transfigruation classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She glanced towards the professor at the front of the class as the man got started and was to begin with very disappointed that they would need their quills, she really just wanted to learn a spell. But as the professor spoke, it turned out they would. She took her quill and then listened closely to the instructions. She rolled her eyes at the question, wondering why anyone would question why they were doing a spell, when doing a spell was the most fun that they could have. She had her wand in hand when the professor then let them get started, she imagined her quill turning into a spoon and then tapped three times and said, ”Scriopea,” she had to do it a few times but the quill did transform into a spoon. She was very proud of herself for it. She packed up her things then and headed out of the room.

William was excited to be moving on from the theory heavy lessons, though Professor Odegard had him going for a moment when he asked the students to take out their quills, but he quickly followed it up by asking them to take out their wands and informed them they would be turning their quills into spoons. It seemed like an odd transfiguration to make use of, but he was excited to get to try it all the same. Professor Odegard told them the incantation and stressed the importance of concentration, he pictured the transformation in his mind as he looked down at his quill that was now laid out on his desk. He tapped the tip of his wand over the quill and muttered the incantation. “Scriopea, Nothing happened. Nor on the second attempt. On the third however the quill transformed into a spoon, it wasn’t perfect, far from it. But it was noticeably a spoon and that would do. William continued to practice for the rest of the lesson and packed up once it was over.
