Freddie strolled along the path toward Brightstone, hands in pockets, eyes on the ground. There was nothing he wanted to buy, and butterbeer tasted like pure syrup to him, so he was only really going not to feel left out. It beat sitting around in the castle, anyway. Maybe he'd go in Gambol and Jape's - they were supposed to have some pretty good stuff.

He looked up as a small crowd of kids overtook him, laughing and shoving each other happily. Was it weird that he hadn't asked anyone to go with him? Everyone else was with their friends. Oh, well - it was too late now.​
 
Blanc wasn't really sure what to make of this whole new school malarkey. For the most part his days had consisted of trailing after the sister he shared a house with, following her like a fart in the wind. It had hurt when she'd told him to find something else to do, especially because he knew that she was going to find mama. He wanted to find mama too, but the way that his sister seemed to have gotten excited at the prospect of having a girl's lunch was enough that Blanc hadn't argued. As a group of students came bounding toward him, Blanc stepped out of their path as to not get squashed underfoot. Loitering around in the village on his own didn't exactly have good appeal, but what else could he do. As the students passed, he looked up to see the boy from the train, Fred? standing there by himself too. At least he wasn't the only one he supposed.
 
Never mind - not everyone. Freddie stopped to let Blanc catch up. "Hey - are Rose and Rouge coming?" he asked. He didn't usually see Blanc without at least one of his sisters. Maybe they could all hang out for a bit. Less weird than being on his own.​
 
Of course Freddie only cared about his sister's, most people did. "Er, no." He shook his head. "They're in town meeting ma.. our mum." Perhaps it was time to drop the childish phrases. To be fair, the teddy bear tshirt wasn't doing him many favours, either.
 
Ares had been laughing with a group of second year students as he'd come to Brightstone, hoping he wouldn't see Echo's friends in the process. Who he did see though was his absolute favorite Ravenclaw in the world. "Hey bro!" He grinned at Freddie, before turning his attention to the boy opposite. He recognised him from the dorms, but Freddie didn't need to know that. "You know you should be careful hanging out with kids that don't go to Hogwarts, especially if they're too young to know about magic." It was a bit pathetic really to think that some kids, even the first years, still held on to their childish sentiments.
 
"Oh," was all Freddie managed to say, before he spotted Ares. Oh, no - again? What did he want now? What was he going to say this time? Freddie's heart began to hurtle. Just look mad, he told himself, fixing a glower, but he was sure Ares could see through him, could see he was scared. What did he even mean, 'kids that don't go to Hogwarts'? Was he threatening Freddie, or laughing at Blanc? Before Freddie could figure it out, something in him snapped and he stepped forward, shoving hard with both hands. "Shut up," he said. "Leave us alone. I'm really f****** angry - go away."​
 
Despite Ares fully doing his best to antagonize Freddie, he wasn't making very sure there he wasn't doing anything reportable. Freddie on the other hand, had just laid his hands on him for the second time in one semester. "Professor!" Ares suddenly turned, calling out despite there not being any adults in the vicinity. That didn't matter, he just wanted Freddie to know that he wasn't above telling on him for his violence. The first year sped down the path, hoping to find someone he could report the Ravenclaw to.
 
Blanc knew exactly who Ares was; the boy that so far had made no attempt to make friends with those he shared a room with. As far as he could tell though, apart from being a bit quiet, Ares seemed like a nice person. He listened as he warned Fred about not spending time with those not old enough to go to Hogwarts and while his cheeks burned at the thought he'd been forgotten by Ares, and deemed a child, he had to give him the benefit of the doubt. As Fred actually shoved Ares for his mistake, Blanc watched wide eyed. Why was Fred so angry? "Should.. I go too?"
 
Crap. Freddie looked up and down the path. There were no professors around - but was Ares going to get one? What would he tell them? It didn't matter. Freddie was already in trouble; he only had to look at Ares the wrong way and he'd probably get detention. He shouldn't have done that. He shouldn't have pushed him. Why did he push him?

"Huh?" he said, turning. "No. Don't listen to him, OK? He's an a**. You're fine. Come on." ​
 
Why would Fred not want Ares around? It was confusing because he didn't seem to mind Blanc, but Blanc wasn't his friend either. "Why is he an a**?" Blanc asked, feeling a little self conscious and out of the loop stood there in his outfit. Had there really been so much going on around him that he wasn't aware of? What else didn't he know about?
 
Freddie wanted to keep moving. His heart was still racing and now he was jittery as well. Wait - did Blanc really not get what just happened? Did Freddie get what just happened? Honestly, nothing that came out of Ares' mouth made much sense - he was so dumb, and so, so infuriating. But Freddie was pretty sure he'd been making fun of them. "He was saying mean stuff about you. And me," he said. If Blanc didn't get it, then Freddie didn't want to be the one to explain. "He's just trying to make me mad. He's dumb. Keep walking with me, okay? He's gone."​
 
Blanc quickly began to walk alongside Fred, listening to his explanation. No matter how much he tried to think about it though, Blanc still wasn't certain how Ares was being mean to him. He supposed it wasn't very nice to act as though he didn't know who he was, so that was probably it. So why had it annoyed Fred too? "..Okay.." Blanc didn't want to ask too many questions, maybe it would make Fred more angry than he already was. What would make Fred happy again? Blanc didn't know him well enough. He'd asked about his sisters, so maybe seeing them would cheer him up? "Maybe, we should and get some lunch?" Blanc offered, trying to remember the name of the place Rose had told him earlier.
 
Come on - it wasn't that hard to understand. Ares basically called Blanc a baby. But whatever. It was probably a good thing he didn't get it. Freddie shoved his hands back in his pockets, but he was tense now, expecting a professor to come back - or worse, Ares. "Yeah," he said. "Sure. Where's your mom - do you know? We can look for her." And then Freddie was getting straight out of there. Maybe it was mean of him, not wanting to hang around Blanc, but... he didn't want to give Ares any more reasons to bully him.​
 
Blanc nodded as Fred seemed happy enough with his suggestion, although maybe he really did just want to see Rose and Rouge. "Yeah, I'll take you there." Hopefully if there was a guest, his sisters would be less likely to have a hissy fit about Blanc's presence and besides, Blanc was confident that mama wouldn't let them tell him off for joining them. Blanc didn't think Fred cared too much about himself, but perhaps on their walk to the shop he could tell him about the time he'd caught the girls playing pirates, and how Rouge had accidentally locked Rose in the shed for four hours until she was rescued.
 
When Rose had told Syrah that they'd be having a Brightstone weekend it had been a no brainer for the woman to suggest they meet up. She missed all three of her kids so terribly while they were at school, she was trying her best not to be overbearing but every chance she could she'd brush a hair out of one of the girl's faces. She kept looking at them with a smile simply because she was so proud and happy to see them again, though her new job had made the waiting to reunite a little easier. "So tell me do you have favourite classes already or still undecided?" Syrah asked the two as they sat down in Madam Puddifoots, she meant to take the girls for some lunch would have loved to take Blanc too but apparently her son had wandered off somewhere.
 
Rose had promised Rouge not to tell mama that it was because of her that Blanc wasn't with them. Rouge had told mama he didn't want to join them for a girls lunch, but she'd actually told him not to join them. Rose thought it was a bit harsh, and if she were in Blanc's position she would feel even more left out than she already was. That being said she didn't know what it was like to be around Blanc all the time, and how it felt to share a house with one another. Rose did have favourite classes, because that was easy because every class was her favourite when it had Freddie in it. "It's hard to pick just one," Rose wasn't about to admit anything to mama yet, focusing instead on her food.
 
Being able to go to Brightstone finally was like a breath of fresh air. The first year adored school, but seeing mama and Rose made a nice change from seeing her brother. "I think I like potions best." Rouge told them both, "and not just because we have it with Ravenclaw," although that was a perk, "but I think it will be the most fun, especially when we can make things. It will be like the mud potions except this time, it will be real!" Rouge's arm shot up into the air with excitement at the prospect of it all. Surely mama would agree, wine was a sort of magic potion after all.
 
Blanc pushed open the door of Madam Puddifoots, his eyes immediately locating the rest of his family, before holding the door open for Fred behind him. He didn't know anything about the boy's family, but he didn't think Fred could possibly think any bad thoughts about mama, she was so nice. "They're over there," Blanc pointed toward the trio, two of which he assumed Fred already knew. He waved in the direction of mama, trying to catch her eye.
 
Freddie walked alongside Blanc, his anger slowly giving way to amusement. No way Rose's sister had locked her in a shed - that was just like the time Susie had locked him in the hen coop. He'd been in there for over an hour before Luke heard his cries for help and came and rescued him. Susie had apparently locked the door and then promptly forgot he was even in there.

Suddenly they were at Madam Puddifoot's. Freddie gave a little wave, mostly to Rose, who was suddenly very sympathetic in his mind. He kind of wanted to say hi. Could he say hi and go? Maybe. ​
 
Syrah was more than happy to hear about her daughters' favourite classes. Rosé's comment didn't surprise her all that much, it was very typical for the girl and it was somewhat of a response she'd given her own parents back in the day. Rouge's answer did not surprise her much either, once upon a time they'd gone through an extensive mud potion collection and what each one would do. Just as the woman was about to say something more her eyes caught a movement at the door and then she saw her baby boy entering. Her smile grew in its voltage just a tiny bit and Blanc was soon met with a happy hug and a kiss on the cheek just as his sisters had a bit before. "Oh my god, I missed you so much. Have you grown? You must have, you weren't this tall a few months ago. Come sit with us-" The brunette stopped abruptly as she noticed the other boy. With a warm smile she waved to the blond. "Hello, I'm Syrah, Blanc's mum. Would you like to come sit with us too? Oh are you boys hungry, we just got some lunch I can get you two something too?" She offered calmly, squeezing Blanc to her side just to remind herself he was there again.
 
"And I joined a Brew Crew. We all did!" Rouge kept going, even though she could see in the corner of her eyes now that mama was distracted by someone at the door. The door was behind her though, so she had no idea what or who it was that mama suddenly got up to talk to. "You joined too, didn't you?" Rouge asked Rose. It was harder to keep track with what her sister was doing these days. Suddenly, another burst of energy took hold, "We should see if we can recreate that potion we tried a few years ago!" Of course the word potion was a bit strong, given it was a collection of bathroom ingredients. "I'm sure it would have been really good too if you hadn't ruined the bath." They'd only been five at the time, but after the bath incident of 59, all their toys had been thrown out as a health hazard. "This time will be different and it will actually make our hair nicer."
 
Fred was being a bit quiet since they'd come inside, and it didn't help when mama immediately came over to give him a big kiss and a hug. He squeezed her back, feeling a sense of calm back in her presence although he wasn't sure if Fred would think him silly. Ares certainly would have, but at least he wasn't here and he didn't think Fred would tell on him. "This is Fred," at least, he thought it was. The Gryffindor awkwardly tried to move toward the table while still in mama's grip, walking slowly in the direction of food opportunities. "I was telling him about when you were playing pirates," he told his sisters as they approached, hoping it would be a bonding conversation for all.
 
Rose was peacefully eating her cheesecake, when suddenly everything went wrong, all at once.

Her eyes followed mama as the woman took off from her seat, before landing on the door that now featured her brother and.. the very boy Rose wanted to make sure only saw her good side. Her cool side. The Ravenclaw sat up straighter in her seat, her cheeks immediately turning pink at the realisation Blanc had actually brought him over to them. Rouge was oblivious as ever, and it occurred to Rose that she was talking about an unfortunate moment between them when they were younger, a story Rose had no intention of retelling anybody she knew, let alone Freddie. She kicked Rouge under the table, trying to indicate to her that she needed to stop talking, although Rose's cheeks continued to burn as the Gryffindor simply kept going.

If that wasn't enough, Blanc was headed their way, and she was sure she heard him tell the family he'd been talking to Freddie about the game of pirates. It had been humiliating for Rose, who'd spent the first two hours crying to herself in the shed once she realised Rouge had accidentally locked in her in, followed by the next two hours trying to create herself a makeshift signal which eventually caught the eye of mama. Did Freddie think she was useless? That she was stupid for getting herself locked in there? When she'd come out she'd been a mess, and even to this day Rose didn't like to be closed in areas that could be locked from the outside.

In a matter of seconds things were going bad from worse, the adrenaline shooting through her veins now making her arm wobble. Before she could register what was happening, she felt the splat of cold cheesecake dropping down the inside of her pale shirt, and jumped as though she'd just been hit by a bolt of electricity. Freddie was here, here. And her family were making her look like a fool. With cheesecake down her shirt, maybe she was. "I have to use the bathroom," her voice was barely audible as she dropped her fork and leapt out of her chair, making a bid for the nearest girls bathroom.
 
Freddie stood there, smirking mischievously, as Blanc's mom embraced her son. Anyone would've thought they'd been split apart for years and years. She was just like Auntie Thalia. Good thing she wasn't here - she'd probably have her camera out already, snapping shots for the family photo album. First school visit to Brightstone! Like anyone really cared. She was so embarrassing.

"Freddie," he corrected. It was kind of nice of Syrah to offer him lunch. He hesitated, torn between freedom and free crepes. Where else was he gonna go? The idea of wandering around the village was ruined now that he knew Ares was hanging around. Freddie was probably safer in here. "Can I get crepes?" he asked, following them to the table. Besides, now he could say hi to...

... Rose. He looked at her just in time to watch the cheesecake fall off her spoon. And then she was gone. Freddie slid into a chair, his mind suddenly racing. Was it him? Did she hate him? Was she scared of him? He was scary sometimes. Maybe he shouldn't have sat down. Maybe he could still go. Would that make it more weird? What was he meant to do? ​
 
Syrah could not, and honestly would not, wipe the smile off of her face when all her kids were there now together. It might have seemed silly given they'd been at school only a few months but given Syrah had raised the trio alone with barely ever having been apart for longer than a da it had been a strange period for the woman. She nodded to Freddie and started walking towards the table with the boys. "Of course you can, Blanc honey what do you want?" Syrah turned her gaze to her son, whom she was very glad didn't seem to mind being embraced yet. These years would soon be gone and the boy would be 'too cool' for mama's hugs so she did her best to make the most of it while she could.

As they closed in on the table she noticed Rosé look a little bit bothered, something was off. Rosé who was the most meticulous of her trio suddenly seemed all to distracted and dropped a piece of cake onto her shirt. The brunette furrowed her brows in concern, torn between walking after her daughter and staying with the others. Sometimes she wished she could clone herself, so she'd be enough to take care at all three at the same time but all she could do was try her best, which sometimes meant she felt like she needed to split in half. Noticing an older girl give her a sympathetic smile and a nod before walking towards the bathrooms after Rosé. Syrah would check in on Rosé later and see how her little Ravenclaw was doing. "Soo crepes for Freddie, anything to drink? What did you want Blanc?" The brunette returned her attention to the kids now sat at the table.
