Open after Daph posts with Gwen

Rene straightened his shirt, trying to coach himself into keeping calm and playing it cool tonight. He could hardly believe Gwen was actually coming tonight, half convinced he was going to see a repeat of his Third year where she'd suddenly lost interest. Things were different now, he reminded himself. Sully wasn't around to cause problems for a start, and besides, he was cooler now. He was Quidditch captain, he'd had other, cool girlfriends too. It was going to be fine, Rene assured himself, standing up a little straighter and rolling his shoulders as he kept an eye out for Gwen, glad for one to be tall enough that he could easily spot her over everyone's heads.

Gwen had been surprised by the lack of reaction from Jenna, after she had gone to the yule ball with her ex boyfriend. She was still wary, knowing the older girl could just be biding her time. But it wasn't like she had much time left before she graduated and became irrelevant at Hogwarts. Gwen was already outshining her, she knew. She had chosen a cute flowery dress today for Valentine's day, and smiled as she spotted René. There were worse things than going out with a boy that clearly liked her a lot. She moved over to him, smiling. "You look handsome." She told him honestly.

Rene nearly literally bit his tongue when he spotted Gwen, giving her what he was sure was a goofy grin but not being able to help himself. She was actually here which meant he hadn't imagined the whole thing. "Oh, uh, thanks," he said, straightening up a little with pride when Gwen complimented him. "You look amazing, like always I mean but yeah," he said, powering through the awkwardness and holding the door for her. "You wanna dance? No ice rink or anything this time so should be safer," he said, feeling bolder now after things had gone so well at Yule. Maybe he could even ask Gwen out properly after tonight too?
