The sky overhead looked clear tonight, and bright moonlight added to the candlelight in the Great Hall. Matt had been here many times before, but it still felt magical every time. He stood in front of the entire school, smiling at the students. He waited at the podium for the hall to quiet down so he could make his speech to introduce the sorting ceremony His gaze moved from table to table, feeling a sense of pride. All these young minds would learn so much in the upcoming school year. Matt was honored to be a part of it.

He nodded and smiled in greeting, then cleared his throat as he started his speech. "Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa. Welcome back," he started, looking at the house tables in turn. "And welcome, to the new students joining us today. Today marks the start of your journey as witches and wizards. For some of you, the first step into the magical world. Hogwarts will be your home for the next seven years. A place to learn and grow into full-fledged witches and wizards." He said with a smile. Then he put his serious face on as he continued. "There are a few housekeeping rules to mention for the new students or those who might need a reminder. The Forbidden Forest is strictly off-limits to any students unless they're supervised by a professor or a member of the staff. The forest is dangerous and this rule is set up for your own protection. Anyone who breaks the rule will be punished accordingly."

Matt paused there to let it sink in, though he knew that real troublemakers wouldn't be deterred by his words. Then, he continued on. "It is now time for the sorting ceremony. Each of you will be sorted into a house, and that house will be your home for the duration of your time here. The houses are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. They are each named after one of the founders of this school." He said, watching the banners of each house unfurl as he named the houses in turn. "You will be sorted based on the values of each of the founders, which means you will be placed with students with similar values. First years, once I call your name you can step forward and take a seat on this stool." He said, gesturing to the stool which was in view of all the students and teachers in the hall. "Once you sit down, the Sorting Hat will be placed on your head. It will decide which house suits you best and sort you. After that, you can join your new housemates at one of the tables." He paused, smiling slightly. "But first, the hat has a little song for us," He said, gesturing to the hat to start singing. Once the song was done, Matt unraveled the roll of parchment in front of him and read the first name.

It comes but once, but once each year,
When, I, the sorting hat appear.
I appear to sort the latest batch,
To look within and find a match.
To seek the person who does reside,
Beneath the skin, deep down inside.

Rest assured, I do take care,
To avoid mistakes and always be fair,
Because I know my duty is very great,
The decisions I make affecting fate.
So do not approach with a sense of fear,
Embarrassed when seated upon your rear.
And when I'm placed upon your head,
Your thoughts should not be full of dread.
Approach with confidence, pure and true,
Give me the chance to honour you.

Those who step forth brave with pride,
Likely in Gryffindor they will reside.
Fire and Lion, scarlet and gold,
A house of friends, strong and bold.

Hard working kids who value fair play,
May find that Hufflepuff is where they stay.
The Earth and Badger, yellow and black.
Loyalty and tolerance, keep them on track.

Creativity and intelligence will help some soar,
Above the rest to Ravenclaw's door.
Air and Eagle, bronze and blue.
The wisdom to make dreams come true.

And finally those, resourceful and cunning,
Ambitious and powerful are in the running.
They'll join the house of silver and green,
Where water and serpents stage the scene.

Now, one last thing, please take heed,
Here is some advice that you may need.
This school has grown in a short time,
So have mistakes and heinous crime.
A challenge to all present, to look within,
No matter the house I've placed you in.
To do your best and persevere,
To use your strengths and face your fear.

The time has come, no more delay,
I call you forth, come on, let's play.

The journey to Hogwarts had been a good one, and Sofi enjoyed taking in the new sights, sounds, and magic at Hogwarts. It was a truly magical place like nowhere she'd been before. Sofi hadn't been so keen on the Sorting Ceremony and having to stand up in front of so many people, but she held it together as best she could. Her heart was pounding with a mixture of nervousness and anticipation. The Sorting Hat rested on the stool in front of her. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves as she waited for her turn. Once her name was called, Sofi stepped forward, feeling all eyes in the room on her. She approached the stool and took a seat, the hat slipping down passed her ears, throwing her into darkness where she felt oddly safe.

"Know that your ambition could've served you well in Gryffindor or that curiosity for Ravenclaw, but it is clear, that for you the easy option, the obvious option, is the right option.....Hufflepuff,"

Cyrus had been happy to sit with Leah on the train, but she couldn't be here for this. There was a part of him that hoped they would be in the same house, but he also didn't think it likely. He and Leah were very different, and from what he heard, Gryffindor didn't seem to really suit him. He stood with the other first years and followed them into the hall. His eyes widened as he looked around, taking it all in. The history of the place felt overwhelming, even though this version of Hogwarts wasn't even that old. He shivered a little at the sight of all the Hogwarts students staring at them and already dreaded having to sit on the stool. He wasn't particularly shy but he figured everyone would be a little bothered by so much attention. He waited for his name to be called, paying close attention to his future classmates and where they were sorted. He noticed the hat sometimes took a bit longer to place someone and wondered why. When it was finally his turn, Cyrus took a deep breath, tried to ignore all the staring eyes, and took his seat on the stool.

"Sometimes it is more difficult to pull the threads in people's heads to figure out the place for them. But for you, the option is pretty clear. You'd have figured out any house, but your intelligence and creativity lead to only one place...Ravenclaw,"

Ruth knew that she would end up in Ravenclaw. She saw no other way that this day would end. It could only be with her in blue robes so she was nowhere near as nervous as some of the people around her, snivelling at their fears. They'd probably end up in stupid Hufflepuff. She was incredibly self-assured and was glad for the confidence she had too while she looked around her. She recognized some people in the crowd from pre-Hogwarts education but maintained a neutral expression on her face, before she turned to watch the hat sort. Admittedly, she had thought the hat would communicate directly to the student through their minds until announcing the hat so the student could maintain some privacy for their inner most thoughts but she was enjoying listening to the hat anyway.

When it came to be her turn, Ruthie managed a smirk and smoothed her blonde hair down before she walked up onto the stage confidently. She sat down and waited for the Sorting Hat to be placed on her head. When it had she could barely see in front of her because of the large brim but did not complain instead she thought 'What a strange piece of old magic' and was eager to learn more about the spells that created such a thing.

"The spells which created me are complex and tricky, but I see quite an intelligence here, perhaps you'd be just the type to figure those very spells out. But for you, and for this moment now, know you have an equal split between intelligence and ambition, both serving you in your end goal. But it is what you desire which is swaying the choice...Ravenclaw,"

Rosalind entered the great hall, her eyes wide and trying to take everything in that she could. Lucy hadn’t been kidding when she said it was spectacular – with the long, solid wooden tables drawn across the large hall and the enchanted ceiling with sparkling stars hidden in its depths. She followed along with the other students, making a note of them as well. She needed to know what kind of people were in her year. It made her feel more comfortable. Rosalind was slightly judgmental of a few of them. She watched and waited as they stopped before the sorting hat, and it sang its song. Once finished, names began getting called out and Rosalind watched one by one as other first years walked to the stool to get sorted.

When Rosalind’s name was called out, she walked tentatively forward for a few steps, then gained some confidence as she rounded to take a seat on the stool. She adjusted herself, straightened her back and levelled her breathing as the hat was placed on her head. Rosalind tried to keep her mind blank but it kept racing to what her dad had said – no house is a bad house, only bad people.

"That is very true, none of the houses are inherent bad. A house is just a house after all. But for you, I can see a good deal of curiosity, of loyalty. You could do well in Hufflepuff...but I don't think that'll challenge you enough...Gryffindor,"

Camille was overwhelmed by the big castle where she arrived at. The only comforting thought was that her dad was here too and she could visit him. But some part knew that he wouldn't always be around all day. It made her nervous to kind of do it all on her own. It didn't felt like she was eleven and old enough to do this. The blonde hoped the professors would be nice at least and they could keep an eye on her. Like parents did in a way. The train ride was long and how much she tried to push away the nerves it didn't helped much. She didn't spot June yet in the train, which was for the best. But she knew June would be there as she was getting sorted. Camille wanted nothing more than her family to be back together again. And hopefully June would come live with them one day.

As she followed the rest inside towards the Great Hall, she was glad not to walk at the front. The room was very big and Camille watched towards the ceiling which seemed like an actual sky. Than her gaze went to the headmaster who spoke. Camille had no clue how she would feel in seven years from now, she hoped not as nervous as she felt now. The blonde was kind of disappointed about the forest, she liked walking inside a forest but this one was off limits and perhaps better in case it was dangerous. When the sorting began she watched the students before her and it didn't took long when Camille was getting called. When she walked towards the sorting hat, she was glad that her eyes met her fathers at the professor table and tried to focus on him. The sorting hat was kind of scary with the way it moved, but also interesting. When it was placed on her head she took an deep breath. Until now she forgot that this was the moment, and very important where she would end up. And she tried not to panic too much and took an deep breath in and out. Deep down she knew what she wanted, but was too afraid to focus on it too much. Because if it wasn't going that way, she would perhaps burst down in tears.

"I can also see what you would like, and take a moment to just breathe before I announce it. It'll all be okay. I promise you that....Hufflepuff,"

Thomas was nervous about it all. Being away from his family for a long period of time was not something that he had anticipated. He wondered what his dad and younger sibling were, and what they were up to right at this moment. Thomas couldn't stop worrying about what would be happening. Thomas had heard stories about Hogwarts from his older siblings and his dad, though they went to Hogwarts in Scotland, so he had hoped it wasn't much different from that.

Thomas walked into the great hall nervously along with his classmates. He looked around the great hall with awe. The great hall looked nice, but he was still a little nervous. The young boy listened carefully to what the professor said. While he was all for avoiding danger, he was a bit curious about the idea of the forbidden forest. He wondered why it was forbidden. He listened carefully to each of the houses that they had here at school, which was pretty much the same as the one in Scotland. He then jumped at the hat suddenly singing, not prepared for a singing hat, which was a little strange for him.

Once the hat had finished singing, it was now finally time for the first years to be sorted. Thomas' name was near the start of the ceremony, so he was glad that he didn't have to wait too long until his name was called. He clapped for each student that was sorted, wondering what house he would be sorted into.

It wasn't long until it was Thomas' turn to be sorted when his name was being called. Thomas squeezed his way through the students nervously as he made his way to the front of the great hall, tripping a little from nervousness as he made his way up the levelled-up platform and awkwardly sat in the seat. "Hello," Tom said to the hat rather awkwardly and shyly.

"Hello there! Welcome to Hogwarts. I'll only be a moment up here, the choice is evidently clear...Hufflepuff,"

Kharon Styx made his way in the Great Hall. His two oldest siblings long since graduated already, with Hades Styx III and Athene Styx, who were in Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw respectively. Kharon doubted that houses would actually matter since there were so many gray areas between where it all mixed together. He was the only one that actually took after his great-grandfather out of his siblings. The blonde hair was an indicator. And he looked a bit like the man, who was sitting at the staff table.

The first year looked around at his peers as the hat started to talk, and soon enough, started to call names. It would be a while before his name was called. The crowd looked pretty thin until his name was called out. He walked up to the stool and sat down. The hat touched his blonde hair and silently, the boy waited.

"You can be assured that you won't wait too long, I think I see all I need to, to be able to decide. While you might've fitted in with many of your family in one particular house, I think you'll find greater success in...Ravenclaw,"

Saturday Weeks walked in the Great Hall, and looked around. Yeah, magic seemed to be so great and grand and how it could change lives, but Saturday honestly could not wait until she was done with this, and she could just play whatever she wanted, when she wanted. Out of all of her siblings, she might have been the most athletic. Even more so than Monday, who played Quidditch. If she played, she would do much more than just fly around on a broom. She wanted something a little more physical than that. But that was something for outside of school when she had her magic under control. That was what school was for, right?

She waited as patiently as she could. She folded her arms across her chest and even tapped her foot as the students dwindled down. Eventually, she heard her name. At last. She walked up and sat down. At least after she was sorted, she could see Sunday go to her house. There was no telling where her twin would go.

"There's no need to worry about your twin, you should only worry about you. I think here it's a split between that ambitious nature and your desire for adventure. You would've made a pretty excellent Gryffindor but I see your path unfolding in a different direction...Slytherin,"

Dhivya gripped tightly onto Naveen's hand as the first years were ushered into the Great Hall, eyes casting around immediately for her cousins. It had been a long time since she had seen Anisha or Raafe, but she was able to spot them fairly easily at the tables. There was something comforting knowing that they weren't embarking on this journey entirely alone - sure Dhivya and Naveen would always have each other, but there were other members of their family here too to look out for them.

It made the whole affair less daunting than it would otherwise have been - Dhivya was still rolling the facts around in her head. Her dads weren't here, for the first time in her life. Noone to tell her what to do, noone to tell her she was doing it wrong, or too much, or too little, or anything else. She was here to make her own decisions, to figure out whether or not she was doing the wrong thing all on her own, and it was terrifying. As much strain as her fathers often put on her, Dhivya didn't know how ready she was to be in charge all on her own, so many decisions she had never needed to make for herself before. And Naveen - there was no question he would be coming to her for support and wisdom. It was all a lot, and her mind swirled with worry as the ceremony began, only barely listening. She only perked up when the sorting started in earnest, watching as her future classmates were separated one by one, sent away to their new homes. It felt like the K-s came far too quickly, and before long it was her turn.

"Khatri, Dhivya

She gave Naveen's hand a last squeeze before letting go and heading up to the stool, closing her eyes as the hat was lowered onto her head. The thought of having her mind read was chilling but Dhivya did her best to keep her cool, failing to suppress the trembles throughout her body or the million worries running through her head. Was there a wrong house nobody had told her about? Or were there new requirements she would be forced to live up to? What if she wound up in Gryffindor, and was expected to do all kinds of feats of bravery? Dhivya swallowed back her nerves and fears, hoping this whole thing was over as quickly as possible, and she and Naveen would be eating dinner side by side before long.

"I'm afraid this is a little complicated than some, you'd like it to be over quickly, but I can see how your desires lie, and the stress this causing you. This will be the best choice for you, and you will be fine....Hufflepuff,"

Naveen was so nervous he was sure his legs were probably shaking. He reached his hand out to his sister and felt some of the tension leave his shoulders when she grabbed it and gave it a squeeze. He hoped they'd end up together. He couldn't imagine surviving the next seven years if they were separated. Maybe he could convince their dads to homeschool them again if that happened. He took a few more steadying breaths as the headmaster started to speak and the hat started to sing. He knew he should be paying attention and taking in his surroundings, it was his very first time in the great hall! But all he could do was run through the different scenarios in his head. Back and forth he went. Together, apart, together, apart. He didn't even notice they had started calling names until the hat called out the first house. Naveen's heart went into double time. He looked around to try and find his cousins. They had ended up in the same house. Maybe Khatris were good at sticking together. Finally his sister was called and he jumped. He had trouble letting go of her hand but eventually he did and he was left alone with his sweaty palms. He practically held his breath until the house was finally called out. He was so nervous he could cry. There was a beat and then it was his name ringing out across the hall. His legs were worse now that he was walking and he was sure he looked like a baby deer or maybe something even more pathetic as he made his way to the front of the hall. He sat down and immediately closed his eyes. He didn't want to to see everyone looking back at him. Please make this quick. Please keep us together.

"Keep you together? Now that's quite an ask, however, I can see you managing quite well in that particular house, though maybe you would benefit from being apart? You'd make a good Ravenclaw...no? Okay...Hufflepuff,"

Today was the day.
Ivy was so excited. She had a trunk, her uniform, her books, packed as well as the boom her parents had go her for her birthday in her trunk and her new wand in her pocket.
Today was the day. She was starting at Hogwarts.
For as long as she could remember there had always been at least one member of her family in the school. Well, if you counted Maisie over the last few years, which she did, this year would be her chance, her turn. It was going to be amazing. Though she was slightly sad that she would have no family here to share it with as Jaxon the only relative her age was going to school elsewhere.
It had been a long day even as she arrived at the school, but she was so hyped up on adrenaline and sugar that she didn't feel it, though she knew that she would crash at some stage. She had got up early and had been surprised by almost all her family in the kitchen for breakfast and to wish her a good year. There was wishes that she would do well on sorting and follow the family tradition of red and yellow. But part of her still worried about it. She really wanted Gryffindor. It sounded like the best house, Hufflepuff would be fun too, Chante, and uncle chay had been in that house, and of course the happy newlyweds Linden and Casper and their doorm mates to friends to lovers story that sounded like it came from a book Tara or Maisie would read. Then there was Ravenclaw. She figured she had little chance of bing in that house but if she was it would be okay. But deep down, she worried that she may end up in Slytherin she hadnt told anyone that worry but part of her feared it. She had tried hard the last few months not to show those traits that would lead her to that house: Pride, Self-confidence, selfishness, making sure she got her own way.
She took a breath. No she would be gryfindor. She had to be. If not maybe she could just swap seats half way through the feast, surly no-one would be any the wiser.
She waited with the other first years at the front of the great hall and listened as the headmaster introduced themselves and the hat did its song. then she listened to the names. glad that Cullen was near the start. it wasn't long, but it felt like ages when Cullen Ivy was called in the headmaster's voice and she stepped forward, thinking she was glad her name wasnt Williams or something as she made her way to the stool flicking her ginger curls as she sat down. she would show the world how confident she was. so that no one would know that she was nervous. she took a deep breath of anticipation as the hat was placed over her head, and as it slid over her eyes, she was plunged into darkness.

"I see you have a particular distaste for ending up in one of the dear houses. Truly there is nothing to fear about such a house, and nothing for you to fear about ending up there, that's not the house for you. You've too much adventurous spirit for that...Gryffindor,"

Lorelai walked into the Great Hall with wide eyes, looking around at everything and trying to take in all the details. She was swaying lightly where she stood, almost like she could hear music that no one else could. She was fascinated by it all- the amount of kids, the size of the castle, the details in the stonework and the enchanted cieling. She turned her eyes up front, staring at the hat as it sang with an easy smile on her face. She smiled, humming along a bit. As it ended, she studied each student that was called forward, trying to imagine who they might be as they were sorted and taking note of all of their names. She'd gotten good at remembering names, possibly because she made up such fantastical stories for all of them. Soon, it was her turn. She smiled and made her way up to the stool, taking a seat and closing her eyes as the hat settled on her head. Hello, hat, she thought. What sort of adventures do you have in store for me?

"I have no adventures in store for you, these adventures you will find yourself, and the best place for you to do that is in...Gryffindor,"

Tanith was trembling, scared, and trying her hardest to hide it. She had tears in her eyes that she was fighting, and she kept her arms wrapped tightly around herself. She knew this was the right decision- she couldn't speak French at all, she couldn't go to Beauxbations with her sister. Tullia was also devoted to her studies and Tanith didn't want to get in the way of her sisters focus. She just had to make it one year, just one, and she would have at least one of her siblings here... she hoped. She focused on her breathing, watching as student after student was called up. She was one of the last to be called, and she made her way up on shaky legs, just glad that she hadn't tripped or anything. She sat down, biting her lip and squeezing her eyes shut, hands folded tightly in her lap. Hello, she thought, her mind rushing. I'm sorry to be a bother, you must be tired, anything is good, thank you so much for the lovely song and sorting all of us!

"This is no bother at all, and I do not tire easily. There's a good deal here, some bravery in the face of what's come your way before, but really, there's just one place for you...Hufflepuff,"

Sunday had thought carefully on this moment, and picked her outfit carefully. She'd already altered her school robes, tucking them in to fit better and embroidering small flowers and vines all along the hems. It was much more fashionable that way. She stood straight, her hair styled perfectly in little golden ringlets, and she'd snuck in a bit of lip gloss. Feeling good, and like there just had to be eyes on her, she made sure to try and act coy, brushing her curls back over her shoulders every so often. She smiled as her name was called and she walked up to the stool with a practiced, carefully graceful gait, smoothing her skirts before sitting. She tried not to flinch as the hat was put on her hair, worried that it might mess up her hard work.

"I won't be here long, so I won't disturb you much longer. I see you have a strong desire to prove yourself, really quite the ambition. You'll excel best in...Slytherin,"

Miroslav was pretty annoyed to have to be at this Hogwarts than the other one that all of his siblings were at. Surely he’d caused a little trouble at his muggle schools, that didn’t mean he was going to continue that at Hogwarts. That was a lie, he was absolutely going to do so. But Miroslav had lost the ensuing fight, and for good measure had wrestled angrily with his older brother giving the other boy a black eye just before he’d headed off. Miroslav didn’t really care, school was school. He was sure he’d find the same sorts of teachers, the same sorts of people in this place as everywhere else. They would just do magic instead of maths. That was fine with him. Maths was awful. But Miroslav was sure that the other aspects of the school, which would quickly remind him why schools were the worst sorts of places.

Miroslav stood with his fellow first year, none of whom he knew well. They all seemed..fine..nice. He was pretty sure there were a couple that he wouldn’t have to try that hard to make cry. Not that it was his goal, but certainly he wouldn’t mind causing that to happen. Miroslav looked to the headmaster and then to the hat, and listened vaguely to the song. He wasn’t that interested in this process, to him he was pretty sure where he was likely to end up, and didn’t really care either way. His brother was a ravenclaw and his sister a gryffindor. They were all different. His parents had both been slytherin’s. Miroslav could admit though, he was curious about it. It was the one aspect of Hogwarts that he’d been interested by. He watched as students were sorted, glancing towards the tables they joined, and eventually it came to him.

“Petrov, Miroslav,”

Miroslav stepped forward, slightly shoving another student as he did so. Not even glancing back as he walked to the stool and had the hat placed on his head. This was sure to be interesting.

"You can be quite driven in your own way...and you know when you want something you'll make sure it happens. You're going to fit right in with...Slytherin!"

Ambrose had been waiting for this moment for quite some time now. He didn't know much about magical schools, had never pressed his dad for much information out of fear that he'd end up in a long, herbology-class focussed lecture. No, thanks. He would be quite alright figuring things out on his own. He knew his cousin went to the school in the U.S., but he had only seen the boy a few times during his life so bothering him for information hadn't felt like the right move either. He'd just have to go in partially blind and see what happens. No biggie.

Walking alongside the other first years Ambrose glanced around. He had known the school was a literal castle but he hadn't expected things to look so.. old. Ancient, almost. For a school run by witches and wizards you'd think they would be able to spruce things up a bit. A little magic here, a spell or two there and the whole building would look way more inviting. Not that it really mattered anyways. He doubted much of what happened at the school had anything to do with the way the castle looked. Ambrose tried to refrain from impatiently tapping his feet when the students around him were being called forward one by one. It was moments like this during which he really despised having a surname that started with a 'W'. Still, he waited. And waited. And waited. Until most of the students around him had dispersed and his name was finally called, leaving only a few others behind as he made his way over to the front. Ambrose hopped onto the stool and looked around the hall as he felt the hat being placed upon his head. Good thing his mom wasn't here because she probably wouldn't have ever stopped asking the thing questions. He wasn't really like that, not too bothered or impressed by the talking item of clothing. The only thing that seemed to sort of matter now was what the hat would say.

"You've waited a while so I won't make you wait too much longer. You're good natured enough to be in Hufflepuff but will it help you grow? Hmmm...no, you're far better suited for...Ravenclaw"

Magne still couldn’t quite believe that he was a wizard. An actual wizard. He had a wand, he was at magical school. He was going to be learning magic. He was going to see magical things. He was ready. There was a tiny hiccup in the place, in that Magne’s english wasn’t quite where it should be, he hadn’t liked the teachers he had and had struggled to learn it. But not it was a necessity. He could understand bits and pieces if people spoke slowly. The girl, Sofi, on the train had been nice enough to do that for him, but he doubted that others would do so. Magne was looking at the hall in awe, unable to really look away from how beautiful and incredible it was. He had seen a lot of things in his life, but this was unlike anything he’d ever seen before. Magne joined the group of students at the front and he was curious as to what happened next, given that the students were sitting at four tables with different coloured ties. Houses?

The man began speaking, and Magne could figure that this man was the headmaster. He had that air to him. He was saying a lot of things though. Magne was able to get bits and pieces of it, but he wasn’t following along that closely. He was trying to, but it was hard. He could figure out from it though that there were houses, that they had odd names, but that they would be sorted into them, with the hat. Magne wasn’t sure what he expected the hat to be, but singing was not it. It was very difficult for Magne to understand much of what was being said, but he still enjoyed the tune. It was like any american song. Magne then watched as people were sorted. The hat would sit silently and the announce a place. A table would then begin to applaud. He watch Sofi get sorted into Hufflepuff and then others into other houses. He wasn’t sure what any of it meant, but he was eager.

“Kleos, Magne,”

He heard his own name, but it took Magne a moment to react, and then he was moving forward. He sat down, and the hat was placed on his head. He had no idea that the hat would see inside his head and just hoped the hat spoke more than just english.

"I've got a lot of magic in me that helps me to find what I need and make sure you get to the right place...and know it too. You've got quite the mind for learning and a curiosity that will thrive in...Ravenclaw!"

Ignatius was, of course, looking perfectly groomed compared to several of the scruffy looking students that surrounded him. He screwed up his nose as he looked around, deciding there and then that most of them were absolutely not going to be worth his time. Perhaps entertainment value, but not to provide anything useful to him.

As for the school itself, he wasn't quite sure what to think. It was very different from home, and he wasn't sure he was thrilled with it so far. Especially not because he had expected to be called to be sorted first, naturally. He was not often kept waiting. And yet, here he was, at the very back of the line, watching with the barest amount of interest as the others got sorted before him. He felt like he'd have to lodge a complaint, as by the time they got to the Ws, his feet were aching and his stomach was rumbling.

But finally his time came, and Ignatius eyed the hat with some skepticism. He walked quickly to the hat with his head held high, not sure if he really should be wearing it after everyone else had. After all, there was so many students, and some of them were dirty and poor. Really, Ignatius shouldn't have even been associating with them, let alone sharing clothing items. Another thing he'd have to complain to his parents about. Surely they'd be horrified to know he was in these conditions.

"You only share me for a moment, I'm sure even you can handle such an injustice. I will only take a moment, since the answer seems clear. You have always walked a certain path, and I can see it only flourish in one of our dear houses...Slytherin,"

Alana's name came early in the list of first years, it was nerve-wracking because it meant she had to walk up to the stool with most of her classmates looking on. She wasn't a nervous person, but it felt like a pivotal moment in her young life and she couldn't help but feel the weight of the moment on her shoulders as she walked up to the stool and took her seat on it. Alana had heard a lot about Hogwarts growing up, she had heard the stories from her parents, the friends they made, the people that shaped them, and the importance of her parents' respective houses. Alana wanted to strive to carve her own path more so than living in the shadow of her parents. Perhaps the house she was sorted into would help her do just that.

"I can see a strong desire to walk your own path, a desire which is filled with high ambitions, a thirst for knowledge and keenness for adventure. Truly you are balanced enough for all the houses, you would find a place in any of them. But I see a desire in you and with that, I know where you'll go...Slytherin,"

Sunny's day had been lovely and she felt excited as she stood among her fellow first years, anticipating her sorting. Her smile momentarily faulted when her birth name, "Susan Day" was called, but she quickly regained her composure, stepping forward.

As she settled onto the stool and awaited the Sorting Hat, Sunny felt confident. She believed that her warm personality would undoubtedly sway the hat in her favour, leading to a smooth and drama free sorting. She was looking forward to finding out where she belongs and getting started at Hogwarts.

"Oh, how interesting. There is certainly a lot to you, a lot you desire to hide...But there really is no hiding this intelligence, one that would put you in good standing in one house, but there's more to this intelligence and for that you will be best suited in...Slytherin,"

Aelora entered the Great Hall with all the other children. She was a bit nervous, but she forgot about it as soon as she heard the hat's speech. Now it was just a matter of waiting for her name to be called, and it wouldn't be that fast, so it would take a long time to settle her nerves and be completely calm, which would put the hat on.

Then she heard her name, Aelora took a deep breath and walked briskly towards the hat. She put a hat on her head, a quiet word sounded over her lips, "Hello!" and now she just had to wait to see which house she would be in.

"Hello to you too! I see a lot of great things in your mind, not just a desire to prove yourself, but an intelligence and a great work ethic too..this could've made you difficult to place, but it's easy...Gryffindor,"

Coriolanus knew he wouldn't have to wait long for the quick to arrive and he wouldn't have to wait long to wait his turn. He watched everything with a proud smile on his face, the boy's hand trailing behind him. One by one, the sorted students disappeared in front of him and took their place in the sorted house. Soon he came to the letter of the alphabet with which his surname began.

There were a few others before him, but then Coriolanus heard his name called. He burst through the students standing in his way. Then he took the hat from the chair and sat down on the chair, but then put the hat on. To be honest, he didn't care which house he ended up in.

The main goal was to be sorted. Not to be left without at house.

"The good thing is, no one is ever without a house after I get placed on their head. For you I see a few paths, different directions that you might go down..but I think the right place for you is less obvious than it seems....Gryffindor,"

Genesis was standing before her name had fully made it out of the professor’s mouth. She moved quickly, trying not to break out into a run in her excitement. She held her head up high as she took her seat, only for the hat to immediately cover almost her entire face as it swamped her tiny head. She was almost glad for its cover as she no doubt went bright pink in embarrassment. Her hands shook as they grasped the sides of her robes. This was it. She was ready. She hoped wherever she end up she would feel at home.

"You're pretty excited to be here, huh? That's good, you should be! There's a lot that you'll see and learn, just as soon as I finish my job. The way for you is clear...You're a Gryffindor!"
