Ava King welcomed the students entering the Great Hall with a small smile. The holidays had flown by, and the Headmistress couldn't believe that it was time for another year of school to start. The Sorting Ceremony was something Ava loved attending, so she made sure the Hall looked immaculate. The roof was, as always, charmed, the stars twinkling high above the student's heads. The roaring fires on each end of the Hall kept the large room warm and homely, the candles flickering above the tables made the room even more magical.
Ava approached the podium, the chatter in the Hall quickly dying out. "Hello all, and welcome to another year at Hogwarts." Ava started off happily. "Welcome to all our new students, this will be your home for the next seven years - if you treat it well, it will treat you well. And welcome back to all our old students, it's great to see you all again!" Ava stated smiling warmly. "A reminder to all that the Forbidden Forest is strictly out of bounds, and any rule breakers will be punished." Her blue eyes studied the new faces in front of her, some looking nervous, some excited, others indifferent. "First years, when your name is called, please come and sit here," Ava started, gesturing to the stool "And I will place the Sorting Hat on your head. The Sorting Hat will decide where you will be staying for your school years. When it's made it's decision, you may go and sit with you new House." Ava smiled.

As stated in the Information about Sorting thread, you must fill out the sorting form entirely properly and fill in an RP as exemplified in the post. If your RP does not leave room for the sorting hat to sort you: you will not be sorted. If the sorting hat does not receive your sorting form: you will not be sorted. Follow instructions and: you will be sorted.

You can edit your post once you are sorted, but be sure that you only reply to this topic once and it is through the sorting form provided. Thank you.

It comes but once, but once each year,
When, I, the sorting hat appear.
I appear to sort the latest batch,
To look within and find a match.
To seek the person who does reside,
Beneath the skin, deep down inside.

Rest assured, I do take care,
To avoid mistakes and always be fair,
Because I know my duty is very great,
The decisions I make affecting fate.
So do not approach with a sense of fear,
Embarrassed when seated upon your rear.
And when I’m placed upon your head,
Your thoughts should not be full of dread.
Approach with confidence, pure and true,
Give me the chance to honour you.

Those who step forth brave with pride,
Likely in Gryffindor they will reside.
Fire and Lion, scarlet and gold,
A house of friends, strong and bold.

Hard working kids who value fair play,
May find that Hufflepuff is where they stay.
The Earth and Badger, yellow and black.
Loyalty and tolerance, keep them on track.

Creativity and intelligence will help some soar,
Above the rest to Ravenclaw’s door.
Air and Eagle, bronze and blue.
The wisdom to make dreams come true.

And finally those, resourceful and cunning,
Ambitious and powerful are in the running.
They’ll join the house of silver and green,
Where water and serpents stage the scene.

Now, one last thing, please take heed,
Here is some advice that you may need.
This school has grown in a short time,
So have mistakes and heinous crime.
A challenge to all present, to look within,
No matter the house I've placed you in.
To do your best and persevere,
To use your strengths and face your fear.

The time has come, no more delay,
I call you forth, come on, let's play

Emilie stood somewhere in the middle of the crowd of new first years, her head held high, glad that she wouldn't have to speak much during the first few days here. From what her few friends had told her, she often commented upon nearly everything with malice and sarcasm, although she didn't know what she could change to stop that. After all, it was just her character. Obviously, she was slightly hurt by those comments on her behaviour, but she couldn't help herself! So she stood in the crowd, waiting for her name to be called, slightly anxious, but not overly so, watching as the students before her were sorted by the hat. The hat. An old and ripped affair, it had a sad look as it sat upon each students' head. To her, it seemed as if it became more ragged each time it was lifted off a student's head by the slightly stern professor, whom Emilie assumed to be the Headmistress of the school.

Finally, it was Emilie's turn to be sorted. Walking casually, but firmly, up to the stool, she sat upon it and felt the slightly warm hat around her head. Without even intending to, the remark slipped out of her lips: "And I suppose that your shabby body hides an absolutely superb brain, does it?" She half regretted it afterwards, but then reasoned that this "shabby body" wouldn't be able to think that well anyway. There was no way it hid an "absolutely superb brain". Or did it? After all, her body held more than sarcasm, as most people seemed to think. Perhaps this hat did have some special gift after all? So she sat on the stool, thoughts chasing each other round her head, waiting for the hat's response.

If there was one thing that Arnost Grigor could be excited about, it was attending school at last so he can finally play with magic. He was the last one really out of his mother's clan to attend, and some were not even at the same school. Vulcan transferred out. Isadora was a Gryffindor, Zinaida was a Hufflepuff, Vladimir was a Slytherin. Sergei was a Slytherin. So, where would he end up? Ravenclaw? He was not sure and honestly, did not care where he went. His eyes worshipped the enchanted sky as he entered the Great Hall. Everything about this place was magical. It was much better than his dad's library! He spent a lot of time in there when he was looking up facts about the universe. He still did not really understand where magic came from, and what set him apart from those with lesser blood than his. He might not ever understand fully, but he would have to listen to his father's words. Stay away from muggleborns. They are dangerous people. Arnost never really questioned his father, and rightfully, never would until he was much older. Arnost could not really go against his dad, who raised him as a mother and a father at the same time.

"Zhefarovich, Arnost!" a name called out. Arnost jumped slightly at the mention of his name, as he was not used to a female yelling it. Somehow, he was one of the last people to get sorted, and honestly, did not know what to think about a talking, magical piece of clothing that would decide his fate for the next seven years. Did the hat have enough authority to not question? Perhaps. Arnost realized that he had not moved since his name was called, and promptly started to head up to the front. He plopped down onto the stool, and he felt the hat placed upon his brunette head. He looked around at the tables, the assorted colors of red, blue, yellow and green. He let out a sigh and he thought, 'Put me somewhere where I can get along with people, please.' Arnost knew the hat could hear his thoughts, so he hoped that he did not sound rude within his mind. If that was even possible. Shrugging his shoulders, he continued to sit and wait, knowing that he would be sorted within a matter of seconds. He was not impatient at all. His eyes wondered up to the enchanted sky, wondering if he would ever know everything about the universe in his time.

Lanithro Styx made his way through the castle with the other first years. Was he pleased about coming to this place? Hell no. Lanithro wanted to be home-schooled with Kairi, but no, apparently the youngest needed to stick close to Kalif, who would in turn, keep an eye on him. Lanithro wondered if his mother just could not handle another one of his father’s sons. That might be the reason after all. Lanithro was often in trouble for his mouth and his attitude. It rivaled his father's completely. He was a bad influence, and did not let anyone not know what he was feeling. He lacked one of those filters that was supposed to keep people from saying stuff. So, he was brutally honest about everything he said, and often, even landed himself in trouble because he couldn’t be sly about it. Then again, he was proud of his accomplishments. He wondered if Nicolas would ever be back in school, but hopefully not. He was a really, awful Styx. Lanithro would always think that when it came down to him. Something irked him about his brother, and he was not ashamed to let people know. Lanithro stopped walking when he saw his cousin, Emma. Might as well stand next to her.

"Styx, Lanithro!" the headmistress called out. Lanithro walked up to the stool, before getting a good look at her. She was the one that lost her husband. How funny. He sat down on the stool, and turned his head to look at his father, who was sitting at the staff table, looking at him as well. Lanithro smirked toward his father, before turning to look at the crowd. No one in here was really worth his time, but maybe he needed to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. He was perhaps better off with some of his siblings, but for now, he wanted to get back on the train and go home. But no, his father was stern to make him come here. So was his mother. 'So, are you going to place me in Slytherin where my dad can keep an eye on me too?' thought Lanithro. Wow, even his mind had an attitude but it wasn’t as bad as he could get. Oh no. Definitely not.

Stellan couldn't have been more confused the day she got her letter. To think that the minor mishaps of mysterious occurrences were the work of some sort of magical ability inside her, quite frankly it was a little bit frightening. Though she didn't quite know what to expect, it had been made clear to her that she had to attend a school that would teach her how to use her abilities. She didn't want to be here, but she didn't want to accidentally hurt her family either. She had a feeling that it was a real possibility. She had no idea why she was the one with a magical ability. Neither of her parents had magic that she knew of and if they did it would have been a really great time to tell her, but she seemed to be the only one. Still, she admired the decorative ability of whoever designed this place. It looked much like a set she had worked on not long ago, with a princess and a dragon and stuff. Maybe they would have dance classes here? She really hoped so, she couldn't live without her dancing, it was quite literally the only thing she cared about. Her most important sense of self. Not being able to dance, well, that would be like killing a part of who she was. She just would not have it, not at all.

"Myser, Stellan." Many names were called before hers and when she realised the next one was hers, she immediately jumped forward, startling another student as she did so. "Here!" She called, walking forward to get the weird talking hat placed on her head. To say this was all very strange would be an understatement, but to be honest, she was not all that surprised. They had kept repeating the word "magic" wherever she went, surely that meant that anything and everything could happen, right? She sat on the stool and looked out over the crowd of students. She had no idea how anything here worked, or whether or not she was even going to like it here, but she was going to at least try, it was the least she could do and hey, maybe she could make some new friends. It also gave her parents one less thing to worry about. Maybe they could save up and go on a nice holiday together. She would be quite safe right here. She hoped. She swallowed as the hat was placed on her head, slipping down over her head. She wasn't normally a nervous person and she still wasn't, but she was a little anxious. Who knew what would happen now? "This place is safe right? Like I won't get killed, right?"

Amy had yearned for the day when she would be able to come to this magical school. Both her parents have been educated at Hogwarts, and Amy loved everything about it from the moment her family started to tell her what would be in store once she was old enough to go. Amy stood near the left of the other first years, observing them carefully. She couldn't help herself, Amy had always been known to analyze things and sometimes being too honest about what she thought. And she did try to cover up her honesty by being overly optimistic, not that it did her any good. Ever since she was a child, Amy had the tendency to observe people in a way that made her see the true nature of them, she had been hurt before from them pretending to be nice to her or liking her; normally Amy didn't care about what others thought of her but as a young child she always wanted to be liked by others.

When her name was called out, Amy walked up to where the sorting hat stood on the stool. She took deep breaths and reminded herself that she'll learn to love her house no matter what, even if her brother might not get sorted into the same house. This won't affect anything, she kept telling herself. Amy was rather excited and her eyes looked around the great hall to increase her confidence. Immediately, she started to eliminate traits from certain houses that she was sure wouldn't fit her personality. No matter what, she thought, I'll always support my twin's house and the sorting hat's decisions for mine. If he sorts me into a house I wasn't expecting, it means I had other traits in me I hadn't noticed before. Her face went a little red as all the other eyes were fixed on her. As the hat got placed onto her head, she prayed that he would sort her into the right house for her. 'Please put me in a house that I can be comfortable with others and with myself...' Amy waited for the hat to call out her new house patiently and hoped for the best. She realised over thinking this situation wasn't going to change anything.

Emma Snow entered the Great Hall for the first time. And it looked amazing! Everything was so beautiful! She looked up in awe and then over to every other student. To her delight, she saw many she could be friends with and looked forward to knowing people on a personal level. People were so fascinating to her. She looked to her right to see a brunette girl next to her. Emma was about to say hi when her name was called. Frowning, Emma looked behind her to see another girl. She smiled and opened her mouth to greet and again, her name was called. Emma groaned. She looked to her left and saw none other than Lanithro. He was annoying to her. He argued about everything! He would take the attention off of her. And she loved her attention. Sheceaved attention. She loves being told how cute she was and how amazing she was at singing. She loved to sing. She could break glasses with her singing! No one told her that she was really bad. No one wanted to turn her smile to a frown.

"Snow, Emma!" the headmistress called out. Emma almost jumped for joy when her name was called. She saw down on the stool. Her bright blue eyes looked over everyone and wondered if anyone was thinking about her. Where would she go? Would she be different from her other siblings? Emma clasped her hands onto her lap and waited for the hat to say something. Her mind was racing and she wanted to just join her house! But she did not know where that was going to be. Emma only waited. But her foot was twitching with excitement and impatiance. She was a bundl of energy and nerves right now.

Ever since her arrival to Hogwarts, she'd been checking out anyone who might be worth befriending. She now had a few candidates in mind. The halls were dark and eerie- excitement lurking at every corner and she loved it. The vice head was now explaining how everything shall happen and Lexi tried to look as if she were listening attentively, dark eyes wide and concentrated.
"You shall be sorted in alphabetical order by surname. Right. Let's go in."
As the crowd of shy children entered the beautifully decorated great hall, Lexi silently groaned in her head because she was sure that she'd be last, and with that thought stuck in her head, she timidly waited. The atmosphere was pleasant, welcoming, but it did not ease everyone's anxiety and excitement.
Luckily, she wasn't completely last. When her name was called, she felt nothing and thought nothing. Lexi obediently sat down and waited.

Christian Marshall straightened his back and took a deep breath as he and the other youngsters around him made their way into the Great Hall. The eleven year old boy could feel all the eyes in the room fixating on the group of first years as they made their way down to the front of the hall and he couldn't help but to be both very excited and very nervous. However Christian kept reminding himself that every single person in the room had stood where they were standing and they all knew how it felt to stand there and wait for your name to be called, and it took quite a while before it was.

As soon as his name was called the boy nervously, yet trying to look confident, made his way towards the stool and took his place. Seated on top of the stool Christian could overlook the entire Great Hall and his eyes looked for the Slytherin table, in search of his sister. The moment he found her he could see her put her thumbs up and it although she sat quite far away from where he was, he could see her smile. Just as soon as his nerves seemed to calm down a bit the boy felt the hat being placed on his head and he could feel his heart racing. Now all he could do was wait for the hat to make a decision.

Marina was hopelessly nervous, her gut was twisting and the only was she would keep her hands from fumbling everywhere was to keep them crossed in front of her with her fingers lifting one at a time. Marina Ana Sofia Buenaventura, I have never seen you this nervous before! her mother told her while flying down to New Zealand. Marina bit her lip and looked around, eyeing the other students in her year. Marina took a deep breath, and put her hands at her sides. The large wooden doors were daunting, and Marina could only guess that all the other students sat in the room next over.

A little gust of laughter and talking came through the doors, Marina suddenly felt better, thinking of her dinners at home laughing wildly with her little brother Patricio. Her stomach rumbled reminding her of how hungry she was, her mother and father had taken her for brunch this morning and she hadn't eaten since. Marina decided that she would take a few paces towards the doors, and in the process try to over hear a few of the conversations, eager to learn some names and faces. Just as she finished walking towards the doors, they opened and a nice looking lady came out, Marina liked her instantly. She couldn't hear anything that the Professor said, until she opened the grand doors and lead all the unsorted students in. Marina scuttled back into the middle of the group, hoping not to bring too much attention to herself.

Marina had only watched one or two students be sorted until realizing it was alphabetical by last name. She seized up, knowing she would be called soon, she looked at the four long tables all the students were smiling. Whenever a new student got sorted into a house, an eruption of cheering cam from a certain table. Marina couldn't help but think how lovely that was. Her thoughts were cut off by her name being called out, "Buenaventura, Marina." Marina looked dead ahead of her as she took short, low strides towards the hat. Sitting down, the professor had placed the hat on her head, Marina whispered "Can the hat make mistakes? Will I be happy?" She barely muttered the last question.

"I never make mistakes. Hufflepuff!"

Daniel had been waiting for this day to come for years. Looking up at the ceiling that looked like the sky, he couldn't help but grin. Finally. He stood close to his twin sister and held his chin a little higher to increase his confidence. He was excited, and not surprisingly, he didn't feel nervous at all. His eyes gleamed and scanned the great hall. Unlike most of the other first years, Dan liked all gazes on the new incoming group. His parents would be proud of him and Amy, no matter what house they'd get sorted into. He hoped he got sorted into the right house for him. He sincerely hoped that Amy got sorted into the right house for her, Dan remembered the taunts and the snide sarcastic remarks from the muggles back at home. He fought the urge to roll his eyes at remembering the horrible memories from his childhood. He would do anything for his sister without a doubt, even when he wished she would stand up for herself sometimes.

He groaned inwardly; what was taking so long? He might not even be one of the middle first years to get sorted, he was most probably the last first year to have the sorting hat on his head for the year. He waited impatiently. A couple of names later, and then, "Rosemary, Daniel!" He made his way up to the stool, sending a glance at his sister. Then he focused on what was in front of him, or more likely, what was on top of his head. He fidgeted with his robes until the hat would announce his house, his other new home. Please, why don't you take so long... Unfortunately when he got impatient sometimes Daniel would slip a sarcastic comment or two. He didn't really mean it though, it just came out. Whoops. He sighed and waited. Please sort me into a house that values my opinion, maybe Slytherin, maybe not, but anything that makes me unforgettable and different in my family, Daniel couldn't help himself anymore. Back at home no one besides his family ever listened to what he had to say, mostly because he wasn't exactly asked to give his insight on anything. Shaking the thoughts out of his head, Dan tried to look more patient than what he was actually feeling.

There was not much that would make young Astarte Lilith Snow nervous. In fact, nothing really mad her nervous as she entered the Great Hall with the devil within her eyes. Her green eyes were all too familiar, as they matched the tone of Theodore Snow, the Potions professor. Well, one of them. Astarte looked to her father before she cast a smile toward him. Forced, and it was not very sweet. One would say that it looked more like her mother's smile. And her mother always had something up her sleeves when she was smiling. Astarte popped her fingers as she waited for the name to be called. She would be before her aunt Emma Snow. Well, half-aunt since Emma was a pure-blood and Astarte was a fourth Veela. She could not turn like her other relatives, which was pretty good. She could still charm the living daylights out of boys. Which might come in handy. Astarte folded her arms across her chest as she waited for the whole sorting event. She wanted to be in the same house as her parents. They met there. They were amazing together. The peanut butter to honey, it just worked out between them. And they were forced too.

"Snow, Astarte!" the headmistress called out. Holding her white-blond head up high, Astarte started to walk toward the stool. Astarte had a lot to live up to. Her father was a prefect and a head boy somehow. And her mom was the first one ever expelled from this school for putting a professor in Saint Mungo's. Now, Astarte was not sure she wanted something like that for herself, but she did want to be remembered. And she wanted to be on the top. However, would she ever work that hard for something? She felt the sorting hat placed upon her head, and she looked up at the worn material. What was that, leather? Maybe. This thing sorted countless Snow’s and relatives, but surely it remembered Aleyha and Theodore. 'Could you put me in the same house as my parents? I mean, if you remember them. Aleyha and Theodore? They were Slytherins, and I kinda want to uphold their legacy,' thought Astarte. She heard tales about how this hat could be, but she didn't see the piece of clothing as a threat.

Jennifer Hayes stood at attention, trying to take in every bit of her surroundings. The other first years were crowded around her also eager to look around. She was shorter than most of them and so it was difficult to see anything. She grumbled under her breath but accepted the fact that she would have to wait until she was sitting under the sorting hat to get a good look. It wouldn't be much longer now. They had just now called the last name Gregory so she knew there was a good chance she would be next.

"Hayes, Jennifer!" There it was, her name. Shakily, the young girl stepped forward. She wove her way through the other first years and eventually reached the platform where the sorting hat sat waiting. She took a seat and someone placed the hat down on her head. At this point she forgot entirely about investigating the Great Hall. The hat's decision would determine her experience her for the next seven years. She waited...

Kasper walked to the front of the Great Hall with the other unsorted students. He had never seen anything as beautiful as the Great Hall before. He stood frozen when the women in front of them started calling them to come to her. The students were starting to be sorted. Eventually his name was called "Snowhill, Kasper!". He looked around nervously, still a little bit afraid of what might happen to him. Kasper inhaled deeply, smiled, and approached the three-legged stool that stood in front of the hall. He sat down more nervous and afraid as ever, looking at the four big tables. He inhaled once more and said, almost soundless ''Oh sh!t, Miles was right. This is nerve-wracking..'' Kasper waited nervously for the Hat's awnser.

Calypso slowly walked up to the sorting hat, her nerves running wild. She looked at all the other students. Staring at her, wondering what her house will be. 'Oh God! Why are they staring at me?' Calypso thought nervously. She wanted to run away, hide, be forgotten. But, of course she couldn't do that. She turned towards the audience of students. Her stomach became very upset, her heart was racing. She was terrified, Calypso never liked standing in front of large crowds. She flinched a bit when the the hat was placed on her head. 'I have to make father proud!'

Dahlia Beauregard started towards the stool at a hasty pace when her name was called. This would be one of the most important events ever to happen to her, she thought as she tried to slow down her brisk movement to a graceful stride. She was anxious. Very anxious, and she struggled against the urge to run. She carefullu pushed a hand through her hair, moving it back as she advanced, a million thoughts in her head. The ragged cloth hat would decide a majority of her future. It would decide the people she'd be around, she would be a different person once the hat came off her head. It was so much to take in. Dahlia knew the hat would chose the house she fit in best, though. She heard he could see in her head. She flinched at that thought. She didn't exactly think she'd enjoy having something being able to do such. She was there. She had made it to the stool, and as she took her seat, her eyes scanned over the Great Hall. Which table would she sit at for the next seven years, with which people? She grinned to herself. What mischief would she make?

Zephyr walks into the Great Hall, talking to a first year she met on the train. She is feeling confident and excited. He is terrified of being in Slytherin. She tells him that no matter what, he will have an amazing seven years and make tons of friends, starting with her. He smiles just as the introductions begin. Soon, the first years are being called up to get Sorted. Some walk away beaming, some on the verge of tears. "Zephyr Greenleaf?" she hears. She calmly walks up to the hat, with butterflies in her stomach and a voice in her head telling her that she's okay. She knows that she will be fine. She sees the boy give her a thumbs up, and she smiles at him. The hat is placed on her head, and she can hear it talking to her. She takes a deep breath in, right before the Sorting Hat shouts...

Adrenaline pumped with fervor through Robin's veins as she padded her way forward. It was her turn, just as her father before her, Robin was eager to excel and do extraordinary things. Her once creme cheeks shone a bright pink having to be the center of attention, even if it was for a tiny fraction. The surge of magical power the castle harbored was nothing compared to the raw power the hat emitted, even just a few feet from it.

A sense of awe washed over her wave after wave. Her heart thudded erratically beneath her rib cage, causing blood to slosh through her cranium and make it throb slightly. Her throat tightened from the immense amount of attention she had. The stool creaked under her weight, the coolness of the wood seeping through to her rear. In that moment, Robin could sense everything- from the steady breathing of the students, to the minuscule amount of warmth the candles shed. Robin was patient as she allowed the hat to be gingerly placed upon her head. Gently, Robin slid her blue oceans shut as she awaited the sorting hat to elect her to a house.

<SIZE size="50">Eilidh had heard stories about this place, she had heard many great things about it, and yet here she finally was, at long last, finally going to get sorted and beginning this magical adventure. Eilidh wasn't particularly looking forward to the whole class aspect, she like going to classes enough but without her old friends she was a little bit annoyed, or frustrated, since she wasn't going to have anyone to sit with just yet. She'd have to sit next to someone random who was probably dull or just not talkative which wasn't what Eilidh wanted. She was however really looking forward to this sorting process. She had heard story after story about it, about both her mother having done the process, her two siblings and her two cousins. Now it was her turn, the youngest of their little band of wizards within the family. Eilidh didn't particularly care about the rest of them. All of the rest of her family were in her mind just people that existed and that as she had been informed, if ever she got married they would have to be invited. But, Eilidh wasn't lingering on that silly thought when the moment of truth was truly upon her. She wondered as she entered the hall with her fellow classmates where she might be placed, where she might end up, her cousins had been Gryffindor and Hufflepuff respectively, her sister was a Gryffindor, her brother and mother, Ravenclaws. She didn't know where she might end up, her brother was academically inclined, but she wasn't as actively academically inclined, she did well, but never stood out as a top pupil. She wasn't sure if she was brave, or chivalrous or whatever strange trait was attributed to that house. As much as houses were important and it did help define her life for the next seven years, Eilidh wasn't so fussed about it, as long as she got sorted, and all eyes were upon her, she wasn't exactly going to start complaining.

Eilidh was stood with the rest of her class, staring up at the old hat which she knew would sing as the headmistress introduced and began the ceremony, only pausing to let the hat sing it's song. Eilidh decided that since she was just waiting around she could just listen along, the girl couldn't help but wonder what kind of magic was required for the hat to work, how powerful a wizard must one be to create and enchant a hat to be able to see into people's minds and then decide on a house. Eilidh glanced around at her fellow classmates exchanging nervous smiles with those that seemed to be trying to show their courage. Eilidh wasn't feeling quite that confident, and usually she didn't get nervous getting up in front of people, she loved the sound of applause directed at her. There was no greater victory than applause directed at her or something she had done. She looked back at the headmistress who then began speaking once more, telling them what to do for those ones within the crowd whose first taste of magic this was, she couldn't help but feel sorry for those poor people, just sprung into this kind of world, no knowledge no nothing, it was always better to know a little something. Her father had been a muggleborn and from the stories he told of going to the school for the first time, it was a truly strange experience. Eilidh spent the first few names fixing herself, ensuring all the strands of the below the shoulder length curly light brown hair were perfectly in place, the black skirt neat, the knee high socks the same height, just ensure all of the little things were in the right place for her big moment, for her time to get up in front of the whole school and be sorted.

Evans, Eilidh

The headmistress managed to say it with ease, in the last few month Eilidh had heard all variations of her name, but she was glad the headmistress had correctly said, Eh-lay. She pushed through the crowd and then walked to the front, walking to the sorting hat with confidence, sitting down on the stool and looking out for the first time out at the crowd of students all staring up at her. She didn't care where she ended up, she would work hard wherever, she would be the certain of attention wherever she ended up. The sorting hat was placed on Eilidh's head and then she waited.

It was time. Maddie had been waiting for this moment all her life, ever since she could remember. Her mother had filled her head with incredible stories of her own experience at Hogwarts and Maddie couldn't wait to create her own memories. The friends she could make, the subjects she could study, the amount of people she would meet and learn from. Hogwarts would be so completely different to any other period of her life and she couldn't wait to start the journey.

And it would all begin with that sorting hat. The hat had the power to sort her into one of the four houses based on her personality and life experiences. Maddie had no preference to what house she could be sorted into, she was just so happy to be going to this wonderful magical school that held so much promise.

"Walden, Madeline" the hat shouted waking Maddie from her daydream. Startled, she slowly walked up to the hat which would soon be placed upon her head. She felt everyone's heads turn and sensed eyes following her around the room eager to find out which house she would be sorted into. Madeline fed off of the energy in the room and wandered up to the front of the ornate great hall, sat on the stool and faced the rest of the students. She took a deep breath and waited for the sorting hat's verdict.

<SIZE size="50">He had to curse his annoyance of a name, that only time this name, his name was ever a hinderance on him as a person, Tholomyes Marius Fontaine had to curse his parents for deciding on such a name. It had never been a problem before but now he was to be sorted in the magical world and someone was going to have to say his name in front of everyone and they too would find it the silliest of names. Never before had Tholomyes ever had to worry about his name or people talking about it, his last school had been filled with French speaking people who could pronounce his name, it would roll of their tongues like it did on his but having said his name various times in english he knew it wouldn't be that same. Even though at his old school, before this magical one, everyone had just started calling him Theo, since it was easier and shorter to say, but this was a new school, filled with lots of people who didn't speak any french, or well, most of whom didn't speak any french. He knew his sister had found a couple of people who'd spoken french but Theo wasn't looking to just be speaking in his native and most natural tongue. The young boy had discovered he was magic, much in the same way his family had realised there had been something wrong with his sister, but everyone had assumed it was just a her thing, that it was a little blip of the family's "normal" radar, admittedly it had been difficult to reconcile it, reconcile with what she was, who she was, but that didn't matter any more, since no matter how much they had denied the fact, Tholomyes was also a magical person, it had skipped Julien and gone straight to him. He had been close to his brother, but they weren't any more. He was sure that while Julien disliked the magic his sister had, he disliked the fact more now that he didn't have any. It was a little cruel, Tholomyes couldn't help but wonder if he could ask for his brother to be magical, but from how much his sister had harped on about it, that wasn't how magic worked. What did it matter really? His brother wouldn't be at any disadvantage not having the magic, since he would be formally educated, it was of course a cruel twist of fate, an evil knife from life in his brother's heart to be the only one of the three without magic. But now was hardly the time to weep over the lost relationship with his brother, he with the other young students were to be sorted, and he realised that time was ever rushing towards him as he walked into the Great Hall with them.

The young boy's eyes darted throughout the room, his wonder ceasing to go away. He felt happy, he felt at ease. He felt like this magic world would easily accept him, despite his lack of magical heritage. He wasn't sure how much he would actually enjoy magic, but he was sure that he would enjoy it quite a lot. After all the stories that his sister had told him there were many things he would enjoy. Standing at the front of the room, the boy made his way as close to the front as possible, though average height for his age, the boy didn't want to miss a second of this, though he would likely hear the sorting hat sing every single year until he left the school, it would never be as good as the first time he heard it. Theo didn't take his eyes off the hat as it became animated and then launched into it's song, he couldn't believe that was magic and not just some trick, a project image, animation. It was so real, it just couldn't be those things, he had been told about sorting, what it entailed, but he had hardly believed that it really was a magic hat that sang. His sister however had not actually been lying. Theo wondered if he would be a Gryffindor like her, from what she had told him about the house, it was amazing, he wanted to be as brave as them, as willing to jump into the situation, but he wasn't, he would rather just read and try his best to figure out a solution that didn't involve him having to actually fight, or get in the middle of it. Tholomyes would rather let others deal with it, so he figured that this lack of bravery on his part meant he wouldn't end up with her. It was something he didn't know if he was happy about or sad about. He didn't know if it would be better if he was with his sister, or apart from her. He knew that she would likely look after him more if they were in the same house, he knew that his, no their, father had always put the importance of looking after the boys on his sister, and this was her world he was entering, Tholomyes hardly wanted to bring her down. He was praying that didn't end up in gryffindor, sending prays to whatever god or gods would listen to him. Knowing it likely fruitless but if it worked for others what stopped it working for him, although were the gods different in this world? He would have to try to find out. Theo realised then that the hat had stopped singing and in his daze he hadn't realised the names had begun, the boy blinked a few times, rubbing his hands with the palms of his hands. He was ready for this, his surname being Fontaine, he realised quickly that he wouldn't have that long to go, his name would be one of firsts he assumed depending on how many surnames letters prior to F. Which meant that Tholomyes didn't have much time before they had gotten to the E's and then, the F's. This was it.

Fontaine, Tholomyes

Without any hesitation the boy stepped forward pushing through what few people he had in front of him, fidgeting with his hands as he made his way to the stool and then sat down upon it. He could feel every eye in the room upon him, he glanced out at them, looking for the face of his sister, someone who would be familiar to him, but it was lost in a sea of people. Theo didn't have much other time to consider anything else before the hat was placed on his head and this process was to begin, he had to hope this hat took preference into consideration if it was considering putting him Gryffindor because as much as Tholomyes wouldn't honestly mind being in it, he would prefer something else.

"Don't worry. Gryffindor isn't right for you. Not at all. Better be...Ravenclaw!"

This was the moment Phoebe had waited for, and she only wished for the ability to see the brightly lit hallways, and hanging decorations. She'd been told stories and read in braille wondrous things about the beautiful castle that was to be her home for some time. The woman used her cane as a guide, the white stick pulling her with the group that moved like soldiers into battle. Her free hand was pressed against the cold bricks of the building, feeling the rough texture as she walked, occasionally brushing a picture frame. She walked by stairwells as well, and if there was any hope for her to be sorted on a ground floor, it had left her heart. Regardless of the placing of her house she found that she was only excited to be moving on with her magic, and that she would persevere regardless.

They were ushered into a louder room, and the blonde assumed it must have been large to house so many voices. Introductions were given by the sorting hat, which from what she'd been told was actually a hat. Excitement and nerves coursed through her petite veins, finding new fervor with every heart beat that pumped blood through her body. It finally came time, and her name was called. Refusing any assistance, using her cane, she made her way up to the stool - felt for it's position - then sat down. It was time, and no one, not even she knew what was to come Her only thought was wishing to know what everything looked like.

Cyan's heart thudded like hoof beats on the ranch, and her smile behind closed lips faltered as she entered the great hall. Looking around at all of the sights and sounds she understood why it was so great - it should have been named the amazing hall. For a moment the petite, brown eyes girl dropped her jaw, gaping at the ceiling, before closing her mouth back at the realization that this great hall was filled with students. Students eager to sort, and those eager to watch sorting. There were nearly no nerves in Cyan's body, though excitement did take it's place rolling adrenaline through every synapse in her.

It wasn't long, the list obviously ordered alphabetically, before Cyan was left with a few students, standing in wait as her classmates around her were sorted. Her eyes were closed, lips pursed in concentration when after an eternity, her name was rolled out and it was her turn. In her uniform, which had a small hoop beneath it to make it a little large of a skirt, she approached the seat, waiting a moment before tucking her clothing and siting. Then all went dark, as the hat was placed on her head. "Please sir, my parents told me that i should be in a noble house, one that has the cleanest people in it. I'm not sure what they mean, but I'd like that a lot." Her Alabama accent even was in her mind a she thought, the slight drawl in it making her sound more relaxed than she was.

Evelyn took a shaky breath looking at all the other first years lined up at the front of the Great Hall. She watched as the other first years walked up to the stall, after having their names called, and having the Sorting Hat placed on their head which slipped down over many of the students eyes. She listened to the cheers that erupted from each table as each person was sorted into their respected house. Evelyn hears her name and she slowly made her way up to the stall trying to stop her hands from shaking. She sits down on the stall and places her hands on her lap as the hat is placed on her head, slipping down over her which she doesn't mind as it hides all the eyes watching her.
