The Sorting Ceremony: 2038

Kieran followed the rest of the first years into the great hall. Finally, the time has come. Ever since he received his Hogwarts letter, he couldn't wait to attend the school. Being surrounded by magic all his life, he had heard great things about it. Even his older sister attended the school. He couldn't wait to learn as much as he could. He had to surpass his siblings' achievements. He couldn't stay in their shadows forever.

He had his arms folded as he scanned the room. Truly, it looked magnificent, but it was not the decorations nor the castle itself that interested them at the moment. He watched the other students, gauging their reactions. Some looked excited, some were confused, while some looked like they rather be somewhere else. He was too caught up with observing his peers that he didn't notice that the headmistress was done with her speech and that the sorting had already began. He watched the students get sorted. His surname starts with an 'N' so it would be quite some time before he gets his turn. The sorting hat was a curious thing. How was it made? No matter how much he had read, he still couldn't understand it. Or perhaps he wasn't reading enough? He should do something about that.

"Norton, Kieran" He heard his name being called. He walked confidently towards the stool at the front of the hall. He had no preference when it came to the houses, but he would prefer it if he would be placed in a house where he could do what he want. He doubted that he would have a lot of freedom considering that this was a school and that there were rules to follow, but he wanted to have as much freedom as he could. He sat and waited for the hat to be placed on his head. It soon covered his vision and he could see nothing but darkness. He didn't know which house he would be sorted into, and he didn't really want to give his full trust in the sorting hat, but as frustrating as it was, he had no choice. Hopefully, the hat would make the right decision.

Finally, the sorting. It had taken a long time to finally get there and now she was stood with the other first years she couldn't really see how it was such a big deal. Folding her arms over her chest, the rather short girl looking down the end of her nose at the sorting hat, it really didn't look like much, hardly seemed powerful enough to pick out a house for her. She had been expecting something a little different and something a lot more impressive, but she was stuck with a hat and that was just a little bit disappointing. So much for a big and interesting way to start off her magical career, just some old looking hat on her head.

"Valkyrie, Antonia!"

Hearing her name called, the corners of her mouth rose into a small smirk as she straightened herself out. Flatting down the front of her robes with one hand, Antonia moved through the small remainder of first years towards the hat. Eyes gleaming a little as she turned, perching herself on the very edge of the stool. Fingers curling around the sides a little, the short girl waited patiently as the hat was finally lowered onto her head. "Don't mess up my hair," she warned in a dark tone, "I spent a long time on it." And with that she sat back and did the only thing she could for the time being. Just wait for the verdict.

Jessica entered the Great Hall mesmerised by the grandeur of it all and the shear magic of the place. The grandeur on its own is something that Jessica was more than used too after all the travelling she'd done in her short life so far she'd seen a lot of amazing places. - while she was used to this type of thing it never ceased to amaze her. She moved through the hall with the rest of her fellow first years, the excitement was evident among the group of young children and she was no exception. The young freckled face girl smiled from ear to ear as she listened to the Headmistress start the sorting ceremony and then the Sorting Hat's song. Standing in one place she watched and waited as everyone before getting sorted into their houses. Jessica had talked to her dad as much as she could about what Hogwarts was like, granted he had gone to the school in Scotland she wanted to know everything she could about what the school was like, including how the housing system worked. Her mother had gone to Beauxbatons so she wasn't really helpful when it came to those sort of questions but she still give some insight to what it was like to live in a boarding style school - it would be different but a good different.

Finally Jessica's name was called out. Taking a deep breath she broke through the crowd and made her way to the front of the ground and sat down on the chair. Looking out over the crowd Jessica grew more and more nervous and excited about getting sorted. She loved what the Sorting Hat could do, in all of her travels she had never encountered any sort of magic like this, sure she knew it was a one in a kind magic but it didn't stop it from being extremely cool. She continued to scan the crowd as she waited for the Sorting Hat's decision to be made.

Adele walked through the Great Hall with the rest of her classmates as they went to meet their maker so to speak - when really it was just a hat that decided where they would be placed for the next seven years. Adele often asked her dad about the Sorting Hat but he really didn't know much about it outside of what his friends that attended the school told him about it. She knew that there was probably a lot of holes in his knowledge which is why she was intrigued to see how it actually worked for herself. The sorting ceremony started rather quickly and Adele was glad that she wouldn't have to be left for long. From what her dad told her, Adele's mum was in Ravenclaw so she wondered if she would be placed in the same house as her. She didn't know if it was sort of a family thing whereby if you had a parent in one house were you destined to be put in there too? And if that was the case then what would happen if you were the first one of your family to attend Hogwarts then how would that work. As she listened to the Sorting Hats song she got a bit of a better idea but knew she would have to wait her own turn until she fully knew.

Soon enough her name was called out and she made her way up to the front. She smiled softly as she knew everyone would be looking at her, this was her big moment and she couldn't wait until she found out what house she was going to be placed in. Either way she knew she was going to enjoy the next seven years.

Isadora hated the idea of leaving her dad behind, mostly because he had the tendency to let her get away with a lot more than he should, but also because the two of them were really close. However, there was a silver lining hidden in the midst of this transition. Now Isadora would get the chance to annoy the heck out of her brother and sister again. Vulcan was away at Durmstrang so he was safe for now, but Zinaida and Vladimir weren't going to be as lucky. Back before they were all students, Isadora had a knack for getting them into trouble. Now that she was older she had had more practice in the art of being a pain in the side. It would most likely consist on her playing jokes on them, or going back to her dad about all the bad things they did while at school. Aside from that, Isadora would love to make a couple of friends and join some clubs. Something to make school a little bit more bearable. School wasn't exactly Isadora's thing, but she promised her dad she would try. Of course she would likely have the other Zhefarovich members on her case if she didn't keep up either.

Walking among her future peers, Isadora had yet to give herself a moment to take all of this in. The castle itself was beautiful, but goodness was it big! Isadora prayed that maps were provided as she had the the tendency to get lost quickly. "Or I could just ask Zin or Vlad to show me around." From the corner of her eye she could spot both of her siblings. Zinaida was happily chatting away with some other girls at her table, and Vladimir looked as bored and grouchy as ever. Too bad Vulcan wasn't here, he was pretty fun to hang out with when he wasn't setting things on fire. Isadora stopped and looked toward the direction of the headmistress. As per the usual, Isadora decided not to listen to direction. Why should she? Zinaida had filled her in quite a bit. When it was her turn, Isadora smiled to herself and stepped up to the podium. It took her a minute to get situated on the podium properly due to her lack of height, but she managed. The hat was placed on her head and Isadora felt her body tense. She was pretty sure she had just felt it move.</SIZE></COLOR>

Hamish could already feel sick.

This whole sorting business was a waste of his time, quite frankly. He didn't want to be here. He just wanted to be given a room, have all of his stuff transported somewhere without him helping, and get started on all this school stuff. He was here to learn, afterall, not be paraded around like a show-pony in front of a bunch of people he would not be getting to know. Maybe one of two, but the entire school? He just was not that interested. He took a few breaths to calm himself. Fortunately for his nerves, he was not on top of the list, otherwise he probably would have died from heart failure. However, he was not right at the end, either, which was also comforting. He did not want to have to wait forever on being sorted. he would probably get sore feet.

The professor continued reading, and the hat continued sorting, up until it came to him. He heard his name ring out through the hall, but it took him a moment before his body began functioning. He walked up to the stool and sat down, hating every moment. He just wanted this over with. He wanted to be sorted, and hoped that it would be in Gryffindor, but apparently they were supposed to be big, personality wise. He sighed, and felt the hat fall over his eyes. 'Let's do this.'

Layla Reyes walked into the Great Hall in awe of the magnitude and elaborate hall. Even though her mother had worked here for most of Layla's life, she had never seen the inside of the school. It was amazing. The little brunette girl looked around at the other first years, wondering where the sorting hat would place her. Layla's mother had been in Ravenclaw, but she had two aunts that had been in Hufflepuff and two aunts that had been in Gryffindor. She thought she would be happy in any of the houses. After all, the hat knew best. Layla trusted it's judgement. As her name was called, Layla walked to the front of the room. She sat down on the hard, wooden stool as the hat was placed on her head.

Murron entered the Great Hall, somewhere in the middle of the flock of students all about to be sorted in to their houses. There was a buzz of excitement in the air and Murron could hardly contain the surge of excitement that was flowing through her own body at that moment. The toothy grin on her face had been present since she awoke that morning and hadn't budged since. This was all so new and exciting to her. All she knew about Hogwarts and the wizarding world she'd gotten from the books she'd read recently. She was, as she had recently discovered, a muggle born, and as such had known nothing about what she was and the world she belonged to until now. It was all a little overwhelming, and she'd had a lot of information to process in a short space of time, but she wouldn't have had it any other way, she really couldn't believe her luck. She, Murron McClintoch, from a small village in the Scottish highlands, was a witch. A real witch! It was amazing news and her three younger brothers were insanely jealous.

All of a sudden everything went quiet and the Headmistress addressed them. Murron ran her fingers through her hair, focusing on what the women was saying. She'd only just had her hair cut for starting school and wasn't quite used to the short pixie cut yet. She wasn't very girly though and the daily maintenance of her bushy auburn mane had been too much for her. This suited her much better.

Before she knew it, names were being called in alphabetical order, students being sorted one by one, her name creeping closer. Finally, she heard it. "McClintoch, Murron" the Headmistress called. Murron darted forwards, grinning ear to ear at the Headmistress, and took her seat on the little stool. The sorting hat was placed on her head, and butterflies suddenly erupted in her stomach. The old hat fell below her eyes a little, and she reached to push it up.
Right, she thought, Do your magic Mr.Hat, tell me where I belong..

Luna was extremely nervous as the big doors opened and the noises and music from the great hall could be heard. She followed the crowd of first-years inside. She hadn't really talked to any of the others yet. Most of them were probably confident young wizards and witches who had known about magic all their lives. She wondered how many of them had been as suprised by the Hogwarts letter as she had.

On entering the great hall she immediately noticed the roof which seemed to open upon the sky. But it wasn't the real sky, her father had told her. It's the magic that makes it seem like it is. Thinking about her father calmed her a little. He had assured her that it didn't matter what House she would be sorted in, she'd always be his daughter, lost and found. Though she couldn't imagine she could ever feel confident among a bunch of slightly evil Slytherins, or brave and adventurous Gryffindors. She didn't really worry about the latter, she was all but brave and adventurous. She didn't feel a Slytherin either, but the Black family was known to produce a ton of Slytherins, including her father and grandfather. Luna was more like her Muggle mother in personality though. She had inherited her mother's kind nature and her father's magical abilities.

All those thoughts went through her head as an old witch with a pointy hat welcomed the first-years. She introduced the sorting hat, which would decide in which house each student would be placed. The hat looked extremely old and dusty, but also very magical. The hat is never wrong, her father had said. Luna became nervous again, but luckily she didn't have to wait long for the witch to call her name. The list was alphabetical. "Black Luna", she heard, as she stumbled forward and almost tripped on someone else's black cloak. With sweaty hands she took the sorting hat from the little stool it stood on and placed it onto her head...

Lint couldn't help but smile as he entered the Great Hall, near the back of the swarm of new first years being led by the Headmistress. It was everything he'd hoped it would be and more, simply magical.

They were all introduced to the sorting hat, as he knew they would be, and a small stool was brought out.

One by one, names were called and students were sorted in to their houses, the house that would be their home for the next six years.

Lint could feel the palms of his hands getting clammy as his own name drew closer. He wiped them on his robes, knowing it would do no good, he was too nervous and the sweating of his palms would not subside until he had been sorted.

Finally, the moment came. "Hendrix, Lint" echoed throughout the Great Hall. That's me, he thought, still standing rooted to the spot as heads began to turn, looking for this Lint character. Move it, stupid.. He told himself, and he walked towards the stool, holding his robes up a little so as not to trip over them.

The sorting hat was placed on his head, and it knocked his glasses off. He caught them though, and pushed them back up his nose, feeling the eyes of all the watching students and teachers on him. He just knew he'd be blushing, he must be, he could feel the heat in his cheeks.

Emily was so excited when she walked with a bunch of other first year students towards the castle. She pushed her glasses a little bit higher. She explained to other students who were walking next to her '' I am so excited, i almost pie in my pants. That would be super akward yep.. just like this.''Emily saw the girls faces and would be under the ground right now. '' Good start Em'' she said to herself when she saw the girls walking fast from her towards the castle.

When Emily arrived in the great hall, her mouth fell open. It was beautiful and just like she imagined. She realized that she was standing still and that there were a lot of students behind her, waiting to walk to the front of the hall. Emily walked with them to a professor she assumed. When they began with a speech and after that sorting, Emily became nervous. Her last name was Richardson, that was one luck she would not go first. So she waited untill her name was spoken.
