Ava King welcomed the students entering the Great Hall with a small smile. The holidays had flown by, and the Headmistress couldn't believe that it was time for another year of school to start. Her holidays had been depressing and lonely, but it wasn't something to dwell on now. The Sorting Ceremony was something Ava loved attending, so she made sure the Hall looked immaculate. The roof was, as always, charmed, the stars twinkling above the student's heads. The roaring fires on each end of the Hall kept the large room warm and homely, the candles flickering above the tables made the room even more magical.
Ava approached the podium, the chatter in the Hall quickly dying out. "Hello all, and welcome to another year at Hogwarts." Ava started off happily. "Welcome to all our new students, this will be your home for the next seven years - if you treat it well, it will treat you well. And welcome back to all our old students, it's great to see you all again!" Ava stated smiling warmly. "A reminder to all that the Forbidden Forest is strictly out of bounds, and any rule breakers will be punished." Her blue eyes studied the new faces in front of her, some looking nervous, some excited, others indifferent. "First years, when your name is called, please come and sit here," Ava started, gesturing to the stool "And I will place the Sorting Hat on your head. The Sorting Hat will decide where you will be staying for your school years. When it's made it's decision, you may go and sit with you new House." Ava smiled.

As stated in the Information about Sorting thread, you must fill out the sorting form entirely properly and fill in an RP as exemplified in the post. If your RP does not leave room for the sorting hat to sort you: you will not be sorted. If the sorting hat does not receive your sorting form: you will not be sorted. Follow instructions and: you will be sorted.

You can edit your post once you are sorted, but be sure that you only reply to this topic once and it is through the sorting form provided. Thank you.

It comes but once, but once each year,
When, I, the sorting hat appear.
I appear to sort the latest batch,
To look within and find a match.
To seek the person who does reside,
Beneath the skin, deep down inside.

Rest assured, I do take care,
To avoid mistakes and always be fair,
Because I know my duty is very great,
The decisions I make affecting fate.
So do not approach with a sense of fear,
Embarrassed when seated upon your rear.
And when I’m placed upon your head,
Your thoughts should not be full of dread.
Approach with confidence, pure and true,
Give me the chance to honour you.

Those who step forth brave with pride,
Likely in Gryffindor they will reside.
Fire and Lion, scarlet and gold,
A house of friends, strong and bold.

Hard working kids who value fair play,
May find that Hufflepuff is where they stay.
The Earth and Badger, yellow and black.
Loyalty and tolerance, keep them on track.

Creativity and intelligence will help some soar,
Above the rest to Ravenclaw’s door.
Air and Eagle, bronze and blue.
The wisdom to make dreams come true.

And finally those, resourceful and cunning,
Ambitious and powerful are in the running.
They’ll join the house of silver and green,
Where water and serpents stage the scene.

Now, one last thing, please take heed,
Here is some advice that you may need.
This school has grown in a short time,
So have mistakes and heinous crime.
A challenge to all present, to look within,
No matter the house I've placed you in.
To do your best and persevere,
To use your strengths and face your fear.

The time has come, no more delay,
I call you forth, come on, let's play

There was only so much that this boy could stand. Garrett Nathan Hensel walked with the other first years after arriving via boat. His golden eyes looked around the Great Hall as he entered. With his head somewhat down, he could still see everyone. As the former Minister's son, he knew that he would gain a little more attention than others, which was something that he did not like. He heard tales of the Daily Prophet from his father and mother. They were always bugging his parents about what school they would send Garrett to. Thomas was wanting him to be homeschooled, but thanks to his mom, he was going to Hogwarts New Zealand. Garrett did not have much of an opinion, but he did take note that his mom seemed to rule the house like she once ruled the country. Thomas was the backing man. And, worst of all, his mom was expecting another baby. Another little boy. He did not think that he would ever have a brother, but he wished that his parents would have had the baby a little sooner. He would not even be around for the birth! But whatever, he would have another brother. He should be happy.

"Hensel, Garrett!" the headmistress called out his name. He forced his hair to hide his eyes though it made it slightly harder to see. Garrett wanted to go home, and he begged in his mind to go home as he plopped himself down on the stool. This was getting ridiculous. He was nervous as hell because he was in front of the entire student body. What made matters worse was that when the hat fell upon his brunette head, he could see absolutely nothing at all. Wait, that made things a little better. He breathed out a sigh of relief. He knew that his mom was a Slytherin back in her day, and his dad was in Durmstrang or home-schooled. So, he did not really matter where he went. He just wanted to get away and go to a table. Any table would do. The hat knew how to do the job, so he could place his trust in a magical piece of fabric. As ridiculous as that sounded, Garrett would not mind. He remained silent, and hushed his thoughts, in case he heard something speaking. He did not want to miss his sorting, and his results, because he was thinking too much.

Valery Matthias had no idea what to expect when he entered the Great Hall. None of his family except those that were younger when to Hogwarts New Zealand, but Valery did not ever ask them what it was like. Terence made sure to keep him from the others, and safe. He knew that things could get a little hectic over with the Matthias family, but now, he was going to school with his cousins, aunt and uncle. And, his great-uncle was the Deputy Minister. That was another fun fact. Valery figured that his surname would be recognized, but as long as no one knew his dad's occupation, then everything would be fine. Terence thought that Valery was too young to understand, but he sure did. Valery hated his life but loved it at the same time. His father was very understanding when it came to his interests. Nothing interested him more than music, which was why he owned his very own drum set. He also took drumming lessons with Thane Vlahovic, someone who just had a baby girl of his own. Valery was able to see that, and became close friends with him, despite the age difference. Valery was a lucky kid.

"Matthias, Valery!" the headmistress called out from the front of the crowd. His red eyes looked forward with shock, but with a proud expression, he marched up to the stool and perched his little, flat bottom onto the stool. His feet barely touched the floor as the Sorting Hat landed on his hair. He could almost imagine it picking through his mind, which would be buzzing with thoughts of playing the drums, recalling the houses that his siblings were sorted into, and lastly, where he might be out of all of them. Only one that had not happened yet was Hufflepuff. He hummed a small, merry tune as he imagined what it would be like to live within the walls of this school. He had never seen anything like it! His houses were never this impressive. He looked ahead, wondering if he had any relatives here from his mother's side. He only knew that her name was Ruby Grimrar, and that surname was definitely a disgusting one. That might be why he was not really the favorite of the new generation. No, that was Victoria, Troxa's daughter. She got all the attention and praise, but he was left behind...

Kayleigh waited eagerly beside her friend, waiting to be led into the Great Hall. She knew what House she wanted, and she expected to be placed in that house. But, there was still an air of unknowing that made Kayleigh excited. She was excited to get started, and learn as much as she could. Kayleigh had already learnt plenty from her parents, but nothing that Hogwarts could teach her. Kayleigh made her way to the front of the crowd, moving anyone who was in her way, out of the way. Finally, they were led through. She couldn't help but gaze in awe at the Great Hall. Pictures and descriptions were nothing like seeing it in person. Kayleigh waited impatiently for her turn. At this point, she knew that there was nothing she could do to hurry the process up, but 'H' was a long way from 'A'. Even her friend got a chance before her. Eventually, her time came. Swiftly moving to the stool, Kayleigh sat down, eagerly awaiting the call of the Hat..

All the first years around a particular blonde appeared to be excited and leaping for joy. However, not a trace of a smile, or any sort of feeling fell on the face of Seira Zhefarovich. The only expression she seemed to carry was a bored one. Cold as her father raised her to be, as showing emotion and feelings were considered weaknesses, this reflected upon Seira. She did not question it, as she was also raised that questioning her father would lead to a lifelong agony of punishment, so the rumors say within the Zhefarovich Manor. However, Seira did not complain. If she could complain about one thing, it was being separated from her twin, Bellatrix Zhefarovich. Bellatrix was almost like an angel, with her porcelain appearance. She looked like an angel, but was anything but. Seira took on her father's mannerisms, but had some of the same quality of angelic appearance by her mother. She could look innocent and fragile, but Seira definitely was not that. Standing proud within the Great Hall, wearing the same appearance as anyone in her family, Seira waited for her name to be called up so that she could get this done and over with.

"Zhefarovich, Seira!" cried out the headmistress. Seira doubted that there would be any other students sorted after her. However, her mind was so focused on something else, she did not even see if she passed any as she strolled up to the stool, and gracious took her seat. She placed her hands neatly on her lap, and stared forward with an icy gaze that appeared to stare into the very soul (but everyone knew that it would be impossible). Seira sat up straight, like a lady should. She could hear her mother echoing those words within her mind. Even now, she had her parents with her the entire way. She was the daughter of two proud ancient Death Eaters, but her mind did not voice that at all. Instead, she merely thought of her parents being proud within the magical families, and thought of them as the best of all. She also thought toward the hat itself, to greatly consider her talents and skills before placing her into a house. She did not give her full trust to a hat, but she felt that it might make the right call. However, she did not know all there was to the houses. Ravenclaw, though, seemed like the better option in her eyes. If not that, she could settle with Slytherin because of Professor Styx. The rest? She was unsure of.

Cat strode into the Great Hall without feeling nervous at all. Her brother had told her what to expect. Still, the grandeur of the hall caught her attention. She stared around the huge room, her eyes as wide as saucers as she took in all the sights to be seen. So many people! So many other children! There was Gryffindor! That had been Liam's house. She wasn't as brave as Liam. He always went off on adventures, and she spent more time in the garden, or the safer parts of the forest. She didn't listen to the chatter of the other students, and simply watched everyone. People were sitting with friends and chatting. She couldn't wait to have friends. When the Headmistress began to speak, Cat turned her head to watch her. Her eyes were still wide; it was the most beautiful room. She'd love to paint it. Of course she could never show them to Ms. Hudson, her art tutor, the floated candles would've raised questions. Not for the first time, she wondered at why she hadn't simply been sent to Hogwarts Scotland. Both her parents had gone there. Yes, Mum was born in New Zealand, and wanted them to learn to love her native country, but surely they could've done that on a holiday. It seemed a nice place though, and everyone she saw seemed to be smiling and laughing. It was lovely to see, and it was lovely to think that soon she would be a part of all of it.

She tried to concentrate on the Headmistress as she spoke, but it was all so distracting. The comment about the Forbidden Forest prompted a smile. Liam had gone exploring the Forest in his First Year, and it was one of his favourite memories. She hoped to go there to sketch. Liam said it was beautiful. Thoughts of all the different parts of the castle that she had yet to see occupied her, as the reading of the names began. Her name wasn;t too far down the line, and she stood patiently as she waited, and watched all the students around her who seemed nervous. Her instinct was to comfort them, but she didn't really know anyone yet. She graced the girl beside her with a gentle smile, and felt a surge of joy when she smiled back. It was so strange, being surrounded by people her age. She didn't know anyone her age.

"Kale, Catherine." The voice startled her out of a dream full of friends and happiness. She wrinkled her nose at the sound. She hated being called Catherine. Suddenly, she felt a slight twinge of nerves, but she strode up to the stool, her back straight and her feet sure. She had a dancers elegance, enhanced by years of ballet and ballroom dancing. She'd always felt like an outsider. Her parents didn't want her to talk to the others at classes, lest she let something slip. Here, there was no secret, and the thought filled her with happiness. She perched on the stool, as though it were a throne and smiled slightly as the hat was lowered onto her head. It was too large, but her curly hair stopped the hat from fully covering her eyes. Please, Mr. Hat. I don't mind where I am put. I would like to make some friends, and paint, and maybe do divination. Liam doesn't like it, but Gran says it's good, and so does Mum. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to address the hat, but it seemed a better idea than simply sitting and thinking nothing. Surely, it needed to know something about her. I promise I'll be nice to everyone, I just want them to like me. She didn't know how to feel. She had no preference about where she went, she just wanted to belong somewhere..

If Asher could describe how he felt, standing in the crowd of excited first years all eagerly awaiting their placement in the Great Hall, he'd say it was like being a black sheep in a field full of white sheep. He recalled the story of the ugly duckling that his mother had read to him as a child. It was one of the few fictional books that his father had allowed him to have. He felt that he was in that duck's shoes, different from all of the other ducklings around him. But he wasn't so different, was he? He was a wizard. A wizard. He thought, the very word making his mind race at a hundred miles per hour. Never before had a word he'd taken to be so plain to suddenly have so much meaning. There was a whole new world behind it, a world kept secret from him for so many years. He always wondered why his father had been so strict when it came to fiction and fantasy. Books and movies about things like fairies, mermaids, witches and dragons had been banned from the household, under the idea that it would damaging to Asher and his sister's growth. "There is no such thing as magic. There's nothing real about Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy, it's all made up for stupid kids, but my kids aren't stupid, are you?" His father would say. "No, dad." Asher would automatically respond, in the same monotonous way his muggle class would when their teacher said "Good morning".

Standing amongst the other first years, he realised he'd never have to listen to another of his fathers lectures about fantasy dumbing the brain again. Would he miss it, he wondered? He'd never been apart from his family for more than a week, with the occasional school camping trips, but now he'd be living in a castle for the year, and perhaps years to come, learning about things he never knew existed before. Had he made a mistake, choosing to come here? His father had almost begged him not to go, yelled, sobbed. But Asher needed to experience this wonderful, yet frightening life. He was determined to try it, even for just the first year. Surely he'd be able to go back if he hated it, right?

Asher's thoughts were interrupted by the voice of a woman at the front of the room, greeting them. Was she using a stick as a microphone? He couldn't understand how her voice could be so loud. As the woman finished, whom he guessed at this point was the Headmistress, she gestured toward a dusty old looking hat on a stool that would apparently decide your house. Yeah, like a hat could do that. Asher thought with a roll of his eyes, only now noticing that the ceiling seemed to be open to the night sky. How weird was that? Surely he'd seen floors above them when they'd arrived at the castle. By boat, of all things. It wasn't what he'd expected.

To the boy's surprise, the hat started to sing, leaving Asher's mouth hanging open in shock. There was absolutely no way that the sound was coming from that old garment. Surely it was some sort of trick? There had to have been a speaker or something hidden under it. As he tried to think of the most logical explanation for it, the hat started calling students up for placement. So many students seemed to approach it as if it were the most every day thing. After what seemed like an age, the hat finally made its way toward the end of the alphabet. "Summers, Asher." It called with perfect clarity. It said my name. He wasn't sure why it had shocked him so much, but hearing his name coming from the things mouth was a little perplexing. Taking a breath, he strode out of the dwindling group of eleven year olds and made his way toward the stool at the front of the hall, in direct view of everyone. It was a little uncomfortable, as he took into account that they were all wizards and witches, who could probably fry him with a magical chant if he p*ssed them off. Biting his lip uncertainly, he averted his eyes from the sea of students and raised his eyes above him, toward that crazily open ceiling. Not a moment later, his vision was obstructed as the Sorting Hat was placed on his head and plunged him into darkness. It was just him and the hat now. .

The train chugged away at a slow note, but then increased. The wind was sharp and heavy rain pierced the windows. Dervla cautiously walked from compartment to compartment, not wanting to fall over from the train's movement. The train then lurched roughly and she fell near one of the compartment doors. It slid open a bit and she could see two young first years, or at least she assumed, within the compartment. Dervla picked herself up, brushed off and opened the door a bit wider.

"Hello," She began. The two girls then had both of their attention on her. "Would you mind if I sat in here? You seem around my age, I'm a first year."
Normally, Dervla didn't act this openly. She enjoyed keeping to herself. But she was willing to do so just for a moment for somewhere to sit. One of the girls smiled.
"Sure," she said. "You can sit across from us,"
After that they didn't really converse much, but it was fine. She liked the quiet anyway. Plus she probably wasn't going to see them again. They were too happy-go-lucky, giggling between sentences. Not the average girl you'd see be sorted into Slytherin.

Dervla just knew, or at least hoped that she would be sorted into her family's house. For many generations had her family members gone to Hogwarts and been sorted into Slytherin. Why, she even had relatives inside during Hogwarts when Mr. Albus Dumbledore was headmaster. She couldn't remember who the new headmaster was, and she let it bite at her in silence for the rest of the train ride.

When the train finally lurched to a stop, all of the first years were ushered onto rickety little boats. With almost five first-years on each boat, Dervla was surprised they all didn't just break and sink into the deep murky waters. The boats came to rest at a small dock, and everyone piled out. In front of the group stood a large stone archway with a door that would lead them to the answer they'd all been waiting for; Which house will I be sorted into? The new students grew quiet and let the lady, who Dervla presumed was the headmistress, into the hallways of Hogwarts.

The hallways grew louder until the group reached a stop in front of two large doors. Laughter and loud talk could be heard from within; The Great Hall. The lady hushed the group, but it was unnecessary. The first-years were all ready silent from nervousness. Dervla even had to admit, for one who didn't get scared easily, this fear of mistakes or strange sortings frightened her.

Surnames grew alphabetically closer and closer to Dervla's name. After each new student was sorted, you would hear a large exclamation of excitement from the house they were sorted into.
"Dervla O'Finaghty," The lady called, reading from her long list of names. Dervla took a quick breath and stepped into the Hall.
Thousands of curious eyes stared back at her. Which house will she be sorted into?
The sorting hat was placed on her head.

"You're a tough one. Stubborn, Brave, Ambitious, and Bright. Very bright. Better be...RAVENCLAW!".

Lesedi's heart was pounding in her ears louder and louder the closer she came to the hat sitting up on the stool. She wasn't nervous...okay, maybe a little. A little bit of nervousness was understandable, this was a big deal! Huge! This was the house she'd stay in for the next several years of her life, the house she would practically grow up in, the house where she and her friends would laugh about the memories they made in it once they were all older and graduated.
Oh Merlin, there it was. Right there in front of her - going on her head - on her head and whispering in her ear. She wondered if it could hear the pounding in her ears as well, or if it was just politely ignoring it for her sake..

Richmond entered the Great Hall together with the other unsorted students. He is very excited, ever since he received the letter that he was accepted in Hogwarts. He stood almost in front of the hall, and somehow nervous. When he saw the professor in front of the hall, together with a stool and a hat. "What does a hat have to do with this sorting?" he said in his mind. As the professor in front, call out names, he waited patiently and finally his name was called. "Richmond Mendez?" When his name was mentioned, he walked to the front and sat in the stool, and the hat was placed in his head. He almost jumped in surprise when the hat talked. "Any house, is fine. But, I like the blue one better." he said to the talking hat..

Bob Masters looked around the Great Hall as he was being led through with the other first years. This whole thing was so weird for him, he could never have imagined a place like this. The castle was so spacious and he had only just arrived in the first part of it, he wondered how many secrets the old castle held. He hated adventures, but maybe this would be the first place for him to start one, just so he could say that he knew all of the secrets the castle contained for him. He smiled as they came closer to the sorting hat, an old withered hat that looked like it'd look better in a museum then anywhere else. But, Bob would know better then to be rude to the hat. He began to walk up to the hat and took a seat as his name was called, this was the moment that would decide his future at the school.

"Masters, Bob.".

Leander Hayes was rarely ever anxious. However, he was today. He was away from his sisters. He did not like leaving them alone at all. He liked to be near them, so he knew they were okay. Hogwarts New Zealand was the closest school to home. He refused to go to Beauxbatons or Durmstrang. They may have been better, but they were too far away. To be homeschooled would be like submitting himself to torture by his father. He could hardly stand being in the man's presence.

Despite all his anxieties about being so far away from his family, he knew this school would get him what he wanted. He wanted riches. He wanted it all. And, he'd have to work hard in order to get it. The school would prepare him. Education was never a bad investment. Lee heard his name called, and he walked up to the stool and sat down. He looked at each table. One of them would be his home. .

Excitement and tension suddenly surged Camille. Her hands were sweating and she kept wiping them using her handkerchief. She could feel the glacial coldness on her body like ice and she couldn't help but shiver. "Oh please call my name, call my name." she said under her breath. Everyone was nervous as well, but Camille could feel that hers was something exaggerated. She didn't know. But the mixture of excitement and tension was choking her. She wanted to jump when suddenly she heard her name was called as if from distant.

Camille remembered her parents asking her which of the two she will choose; Slytherin or Ravenclaw? She barely remembers how she yelled "Ravenclaw" over and over. Why does she have to recall how she said it? It doesn't matter anyway. The important is she already made up her choice... the only thing is it will be the Hat's decision.

She stepped forward, feeling her legs shaking. The last thing she saw was a crowd of students looking at her, whispering; probably guessing what House she will be Sorted or maybe wishing to be Sorted to their House. The headmistress put the Hat on her golden head and all she could see was darkness. She closed her eyes tight as she gripped the edges of her seat..

Shinikka walked onto the stage as her name was called, her hands concentrating on unraveling a string at the end of her robes and her eyes trained on the stone floor. As she made her way towards the stool, her eyes held a trace of fear but also a determination to see this through. She just wasn't sure where, though she had a good guess about that too. Taking a seat on the stool, Shinikka looked out onto the crowd as the hat was placed on her head. 'Please put me in a good house, where you think I belong.' she thought over and over as she waited for the hat to reveal where she would spend the next seven years.

With a nervous face, Sophie walked her way to the stool when her name was called.

"Dwindleson, Sophie!"

She was a bit startled, then whispered to herself, "Calm down, okay? Relax..."

With her hands rather shaking, she sat down as the Sorting Hat was placed on her head.

As the Great Hall doors open, Violet stood frozen in awe. So many stories shed heard about this place, but none lived up to reality. As her classmates were led forward, she snapped out of her daze and continued on. She felt suddenly a little uneasy, with so many eyes on her. A big decision that would effect the rest of her life was about to be made. Up until now she hadnt really cared about her house, but now she worried as to whether shed have to sit with the glarinv Slytherins that were eyeing her up in the corner.

As she watched the rest of the 1st years become sorted, Violet smiled excitedly when she heard her name. She made her way up the stairs and turned to sit under the sorting hat. Violet wasnt generally nervous, but the thought of being placed in the wrong house was a daunting feeling spreading through her..

"I really wish we didn't have to do this in front of everyone." Titania thought to herself disdainfully. What was the purpose of being sorted in front of all the other students? It wasn't like the other students wouldn't be introduced to them later during a house meeting or something. Titania didn't like to be in front of some many people when she couldn't tell what they were thinking. Titania liked to be in control of her surroundings, but the thoughts of hundreds wasn't exactly something she could control either. All these people made her nervous. Titania normally wasn't a nervous kind of person, but around strangers she couldn't help herself. "Maybe I could sneak away and hide in the bathroom until the sorting ceremony is finished." Quickly, Titania turned her skinny body in the opposite direction, hoping she could push her way to the back. Her attempt quickly failed as a sea of students came flooding towards her, pushing her only closer to the podium where the sorting would commence. Well, there went that plan. Titania inwardly sighed gave in. Might as well just get this over it. It was too late to turn around and go back home now.

Titania's last name started with an S, so she wasn't the first to be called, nor the second. She was closer to being sorted than some of her other family members were. When her name was finally called Titania pushed her way to the front and stared at the stool wearily. They wanted her to sit there? After a moment of thought, Titania figured they wouldn't let her leave until she got this over with, so she pushed aside any thoughts she had and took a seat. The hat was placed on top of her head and instantly Titania tensed. Hopefully this would be quick..

As the students walked into the Great Hall, Ian was nervous as to which house he will get in. He looked around and waved at a few of his friends that he just met on the train. As the Professor started calling out the names, Ian got even nervous and started to shake in his position. Someone from behind hit him from behind by accident which he was grateful for because it got him to stop shaking. As the name "Ian McMorris" was called. Ian went up slowly to the stage and sat down. The professor jammed the hat on Ian's head and he waited for the hat to speak..

As Vela entered the Great Hall, her eyes lifted to the ceiling. It was grander than she imagined; her eyes slowly fell down the walls, closely examining the intricate architecture. She may have been walking too slow because one girl stepped on the back end of Vela's shoe, causing it to pop off her heel. She glanced at the girl who threw an irritated look at Vela; she smiled apologetically and paused to slip her foot into her shoe properly. Now at the back of the group, Vela raised up to her tiptoes to see the sorting hat sitting patiently on its stool.

One by one, the new students were placed into their houses. When the last names drew nearer to her own, she began to feel a knot in her stomach. She was half excited and half terrified when she voiced to the student next to her, "This will be my first permanent home. I'm nervous!" Just at that moment, her name was called - "Gilmore, Vela". A breath in and out then up to the stool, where she sat tall looking out at those who had been calling this grand castle their home for a year or many years. The hat was gently placed on her head and she closed her eyes, imagining how it looked from down at the tables.

JaQuan was not a nervous person, his confidence preceding him into a room. Especially now, when he was surrounded by many children his age, who were murmuring about their ill stomachs or their nervousness to be sorted. JaQuan of course believed any house would suite him, as they all had their ups and their downs. He would much prefer his sisters house to stay a million miles away though, as this was his chance. Internally the young man thought that if he broke away from his sister in this instance, he might come out of the shadow he'd been pushing away for so many years. Not that JaQuan would ever admit that he thought he was under his sister's shadow.

His name was in the middle of the alphabet, so his wait was not so long to be sorted. The dark skinned boy approached the stool rather slowly. He did not want to come off as eager after all. He sat down, only thinking of the four houses, equal thoughts shared among many except Ravenclaw. He didn't particularly want Ravenclaw. He did think that green looked well on him, and so did yellow. As far as being brave, the boy did not think he was particularly so. He was loyal though, and that was something the lion house was, right? Regardless of where he was placed, he knew he would do well.

Jayson was, for once in his life, excited. The Great Hall looked intense. He had never seen something that immaculate. He followed the crowd, not fussed about being in the front of the line. It didn't matter where he stood, he would still have to wait to be called. He didn't have any other siblings at the school currently, but he knew his sisters were going to come in a few years. He figured it'd be good for him to suss out the place so he could either show them around, or use the secret passages to mess with their heads. The twins were a couple of trouble makers, and drove him insane. He often liked to keep to himself, but with the troublesome two, it hardly ever happened. Hogwarts without them was a dream come true.
The young boy waited patiently for his name to be called. He wasn't sure what house he wanted, or he would get. He wasn't fussed. Perhaps a house that wasn't incredibly boring. A place where the people were exciting, or didn't pester him too much. Without realizing how fast the names were being called, it was now his turn. Walking up, Jayson let the hat be placed on his head, not too fretting too much about what happened next.

Alexandra stumbled out of her seat as her name was called for the second time. It hadn't been till her name had been repeated in an irritated tone that she realised that it was her her name they were calling. It showed just how nervous she was that she hadn't even realised it was her turn at first. As she walked up onto the stage, she felt like throwing up. Though her eyes were fixed to the floor, she knew everyone was watching her.

'Don't fall', she chanted to herself within the confines of her head as she shuffled closer and closer to the stool. She'd never be able to live with herself if she fell down in front of the whole school. After what seemed like an eternity, she nearly collapsed down onto the stool. The stool creaked and she bit her lip, hard. She could almost hear her father lecturing her on the benefits of sitting down gently. She never listened.

She kept her eyes firmly fixed on her robe covered knees (and wasn't that a strange sight as she waited for the hat to be placed on her head. She had no idea where the hat would place her, but she hoped it was somewhere nice. All her friends were back home, and if she didn't manage to make some here, she didn't know what she'd do.

Now if only they'd just sort her already.

Jane had been excited by the fact she would be starting her magical education at Hogwarts that year along with her sister. No one would know that from her expression though, Jane had always been good at closing people out and only letting those she truly trusted, like her sister. She had shut the world out at a young age when her father left. She was afraid to trust anyone after that. Jewel and their mother were the exceptions, she had always had them and that had been the one constant thing that kept Jane from breaking. As she heard her name called, she made her way up to the hat and sat on the stool as the hat was placed on her head.
