It was just shy of three in the morning, when Pixie was always most awake. She had silently snuck out of the Hufflepuff dorm and come down to the courtyard where the half moon was high in the sky. Fundamentally Pixie did not get why they didn’t more of their classes at the witching hour, lies about it not being real or a muggle invention went right over her head. She took out her charms book and her wand and decided she would do some of the spells. They would be more powerful at this hour with the moon high in the sky. It didn’t matter that this was technically way after curfew and she’d get into real trouble if someone maybe spotted her, but who else would be about this early in the day.

Celia knew sneaking out after curfew was a terrible idea. After the History of Magic field trip fiasco last semester, she couldn't afford to get into any more trouble, lest she spend the rest of her seven years at Hogwarts in detention. But lately the castle's walls had become suffocating, especially down in the dungeons at night. It was like she was buried alive in a tomb, nothing but her thoughts to keep her company. And these days, her thoughts always seemed to drift to her mess of a life.

She needed fluorescent lights and the hum of traffic to occupy her mind. Back home, she'd listen to the whisper of passing cars outside her window when she couldn't fall asleep. But this was Hogwarts. The nearest city was miles away, so moonlight and the buzz of crickets would have to do. Celia quickly slipped through the quiet halls of the castle until she reached a door she was pretty sure would take her to the grounds. However, in the darkness she'd miscalculated, and she found herself standing in the courtyard, where she wasn't alone. For a second, Celia didn't move. She hoped the other girl hadn't noticed her sudden appearance, but she knew that was unlikely. "Are you going to tell on me?" she whispered, trying to ignore the fear creeping up her spine.

Pixie was a little surprised when a girl suddenly appeared in front of her, but other than her eyes widening a little she gave no indication that she was startled. She looked at the girl, who was maybe younger than her and shook her head at the whisper. Afterall why would she tell on this girl because that would only land her in trouble and the stupid rules of this school didn't allow someone to be out at the witching hour. So, so long as this girl also didn't tell on her, she had no idea with it.

Celia visibly relaxed when the other girl shook her head. Still, it didn't bode well that she'd been spotted so soon after sneaking out. The windows surrounding the courtyard made Celia uneasy, and she moved a few paces to the right so that she was in the shadows but still close enough to be heard. Her gaze fell on the book and the wand. "What are you doing?" she asked curiously, still keeping her voice low. She wondered if the other girl could even make out the words in the book under the soft moonlight.

Pixie hadn't expected the girl to linger, so had looked back at her little book and gone back to her spells. She was therefore once again upon the girl speaking looking suddenly back up at her and frowning. She then looked at her wand and to the book and then up at the moon and then back at the girl, indicating with a shrug, "Spell casting," she explained in a low and quiet voice, which wasn't because she was trying to avoid getting caught, just that she did not speak that loudly.

Celia had wandered outside hoping she could lose her thoughts among the stars. Whatever strange magical ritual this was would be an even better distraction. "What kinds of spells?" The girl looked older — Celia didn't recognize her from any classes — and probably knew more advanced magic, magic that would be good to learn about. "Can I watch? Or help?" She had a million more questions but sensed that the other girl wasn't a big talker, and she didn't want to be told to leave.

Pixie had sort of hoped the girl might leave, might go do whatever it was she was breaking the rules for but that didn't seem to be the case. She asked about what kind of spells and then if she could watch. Pixie shrugged, though she didn't particularly want this girl there, she didn't have a good enough excuse for why not and didn't want to say more. "I'm just doing school spells," she would now stick to more school spells instead of her fake ones, but she offered nothing else, no further explanations in what or why.
