Leia had never attended a ball like this before, the primary school christmas parties were nothing like this. She had been both aware of the event and preparing for her first from the day she’d gotten her letter. The pictures her brother had of the event had really enticed her to it. The girl had to figure this wouldn’t really be Majora’s scene and though she hoped he might come along so that she would have someone to spend the time with, but it wouldn’t matter. She could look out for Beau or maybe some of the slytherins that she knew. Leia hadn’t made the friends that she had expected to. That she had wanted to. She needed to do just make more of an effort with the girls in her year, perhaps it would be good to organise with the other Heta first years. That way she could spend more time getting to know them specifically. The slytherin smoothed down the skirt of her dress as she walked into the hall, and for a moment she realised that though her brother’s pictures painted a beautiful scene that she had longed to actually see, the pictures didn’t manage to capture the real thing, no matter how they tried. She walked over to the snack table and grabbed a small something to eat before moving around, looking at the other things and people dotted around the room. She would never dance alone as she saw others doing so, she just knew she couldn’t do that. Instead she had to be content stood at the side and hoping that she might get the opportunity to have at least one dance.

The Yule Ball had been the only thing people had been talking about aside from Exams. Luxen had skipped the Halloween Feast deciding that he had not wanted to play 'dress up' like some muggle child. He had been smart to purchase his dress robes before the start of term it had definitely given him an advantage in getting ready for the ball. He had never seen such extravagance before in the muggle world and supposed that was just one of the many benefits of having magic at your disposal.

He hadn't asked anyone to attend with him since he had been more focused on his exams rather than trying to find a date. Looking around he recognized one of the girls in his house and year by herself. Luxen waited for a brief moment to see if perhaps she had been waiting for someone to arrive before walking up to her. "Would you like to dance Hume?" Luxen asked casually as he walked up towards her.

Leia had hoped to be asked to dance by any of the people she knew, then she could show that she was being involved and in dancing with a boy too, that would help her. She looked as one of the boys from her house approached her and asked her if she wanted to dance. She still didn’t know Luxen that well, but he seemed pretty okay. She thought he worked hard, and though he wasn’t that popular amongst the students he was a little cute, as cute as she thought most were. Her tastes were not the most developed when it came to people, and she knew that he wasn’t really asking her to dance because he liked her, they were just two people at the ball, and they knew each other. But she smiled at him and nodded, ”Yeah I would,” she told him, speaking with a small level of boldness. She wanted to dance, she had wanted to be asked to dance, and it would be good fun to dance. Leia held out her hand to him, though they weren’t going to be dancing particularly well, she definitely wanted to go through the motions that the other older kids did too.

Luxen took Leia's hand and began to dance and to his annoyance it appeared the steps the older kids were performing was different from the traditional waltz. "The woman that raised me, made me take ballroom dancing when I was six, it appears wizards don't take the same class" Luxen remarked as he tried to adjust his dance to match what those around him were doing. Most of it was familiar enough to Luxen, however instead of dipping the partner they were instead raised into the air was just one of the changes that Luxen was able to pick up on as he did his best to emulate.

Two years of being forced to attend ballroom dancing once a week with that weak muggle and it meant nothing when needed. Luxen couldn't have been more annoyed with the woman he had once called mother and took a split second to wonder how he might punish her when he went home for the holidays. "You look nice by the way" Luxen said casually as he continued to try and copy those dancing around him.

Leia was pleased when he took her hand, and they began to dance, he seemed to be a little unsure of how to start dancing in amongst the rest of it. She nodded as he spoke and glanced at the other dancers, trying to spot what he had spotted in how they were dancing, ”I did the occasional dance class in school, if you lead, I can follow,” she told him, if that helped her appear more favourably towards him, if that helped in making this better and easier, if it then helped him like her a little more. She liked Luxen enough, but they weren’t friends formally yet in her mind, this would help her. At the compliment she couldn’t help but blush lightly, letting her head duck down a little nervous, looking away from him for a moment before she regained her composure. ”Thanks Luxen,” she said with a rather sincere tone, no one had ever complimented how she had looked before and though it wasn’t much of one, it still felt nice. ”You clean up nice too,” she told him meaning her words and not just saying it because he’d said it to her.

Luxen was finding it easier to follow along with the movement as he was able to pay less attention to the others around him and more on his dancing partner. "Dress Robes are a bit different than the formal attire I'm use too" He replied to her compliment of him. He had been to a few formal events in the past but nothing quite like where he was now. "Have you ever been to anything like this before?" He asked figuring small talk would be the best way to spend the time.

Leia frowned a little, ”Why didn’t you wear what you were used to?” she found the distinction between dress robes, robes and suits a little mute, like it didn’t matter so long as it was formal, but she knew it was probably because of the fact that she was relatively new to all of it. That before Hogwarts she’d seen dress robes in pictures, but really all she was use to were the suits that other kids of their parents would wear. At the question she shook her head, ”Nothing like this,” she didn’t think it would save her anything to go into detail of how she had been to dances, how they had been the opposite of this, filled with casual outfits, trashy music and terrible decorations. ”What about you?” she returned the question to him, wondering if this was anything more of what he was used to, she figured he knew a little more or was more familiar with them, since she was sure his family was magical, but perhaps not.

Luxen thought about her comment on wearing something he would have been more used to wearing. It was probably meant to be harmless however Luxen found it to be absurd. Suits were what muggles wore to events like these and he was not a muggle despite his upbringing. "I've been to a few formal dances with the woman that raised me, they were all muggle type so nothing like this" Luxen said with a bit of bitterness in his voice. This was just another reminder of what he had lost by not being raised by his proper parents.

"My parents were a witch and wizard but I was raised by muggles" Luxen confessed as though it were a dirty secrete. In truth he only knew that his father was a wizard and knew nothing of his mother. From what he knew of his father, however he was sure that he would have had children with a witch and not a muggle. A sick voice in the back of his head loved reminding him that he was left on the doorsteps of muggles and perhaps it was because of that very reason. He pushed the thought out of his head quickly "I'm sure you know by now we are in a house known for it's blood purity, putting people like me at an instant disadvantage" Luxen added.

Leia listened as he said that he’d been to muggle dances, that the woman who had raised him had been muggle. She had to think that by his tone, the woman was not his mother and that he didn’t particularly like muggles either. She felt almost awkward, unkeen to mention that she had been raised by muggles, that her parents were muggles. She couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps Luxen’s parents had abandoned him with muggles, she wasn’t sure what to make of his last sentence, did he know that she was muggle born, and at a disadvantage...she hadn’t been that forthcoming with the information, but he could’ve heard from others, he might’ve heard from those around him from whispers from her brother or sister. ”Why were you raised by muggles if your parents are magical?” she asked him, maybe then wasn’t the time for such a conversation, they were meant to just be having fun, dancing and having a good time, but she wanted to know, figure out more about his feelings towards muggles.

"Honestly, I don't know much about my parents except that my father traveled a lot exploring 'different' branches of magic" Luxen answered promptly. Even he did not know what type of magic his father had been searching for, only that he had felt to leave his only son shortly after his birth and was not seen from again. "The muggles that raised me, lied to me my entire life. They kept me in a prison without even granting me the knowledge that I was being imprisoned" Luxen said with a mixture of cool anger in his tone.

"It seems obvious from everything that I've seen in the magical world, that muggles are the enemy of wizards" Luxen said before quickly adding "The only thing more dangerous in my opinion would have to be the so called 'purebloods'" he added matter of factually. Both were people of extremes that posed the greatest threat to witches and wizards in Luxen's opinion. It didn't seem odd to Luxen to be talking about these things in the middle of a dance and in fact made him more relaxed as he found his feet automatically following the steps as the song began to change to another one.
