Luna's word stung Scorpius more than he expected them to. That was it? She was just going to let him go like that? Anger rose inside of him. He should've expected it. Scorpius had changed a lot once he and Luna started dating, he even remembered a time when he ran into the forest lost and bewildered because he couldn't seem to figure out what was wrong with himself, it was almost as if he didn't remember who he was anymore. He wanted Luna to fight for their relationship, just like he would any day, but he knew he wasn't who she wanted. She didn't want the constant fighting, and as long as Angus kept looking at her the way he did, he knew there would always be the same fight.
He was so lost deep in his thoughts, he barely noticed when Luna had pressed the necklace he'd given her into his palm. He looked down at the two linked hearts and balled his hand into a fist over the necklace. He had chosen this necklace specifically because he felt that the two hearts represented their hearts. How stupid could he be? He then realized she was talking, telling him he could ask for the books back that he'd given her for Christmas. He shook his head no very subtly; it was a gift, he wouldn't take it back.
Finally he laid his grey eyes upon her, his face solemn yet his insides were torn up with anger and pain. He took in her beautiful image, knowing this was probably the last time he'd see her. After being her boyfriend for so many months, he knew her schedule and daily routine by heart, so he knew how best to avoid her. He was going to have to avoid her, he didn't think he'd be able to stand seeing her after this, after she'd broken his heart, which he didn't even think she knew she was doing by being so nonchalant about their break up. Scorpius didn't know what he was going to do with himself from now on. He couldn't remember a time when he didn't go down to breakfast and sit beside her every morning, walk her to her first class even if he was late for his own, studied with her in the common room, or rather pretend to study, and give her a kiss goodnight every night before they departed to their own dorm rooms.
This was it. Scorpius saw her turn and leave, with a rose in hand, not the roses he'd given her, most likely one Angus gave her, and she was wearing his necklace again as well. "Happy Valentines day," he muttered to her, not knowing if she heard the pain evident in his voice. All the pain he was feeling right now, channeled into anger again and he gripped his hands tighter into fists, the stupid hearts necklace digging into his palm until it bled. He saw the roses she had abandoned on the ground as if they were mocking him, and he kicked them frustratedly before he took a seat on the ground and groaned loudly in despair. Some Valentine's day.
