taking a break

Alex laughed as Cyndi told him never to give her another challenge. 'What's wrong? Can't hack it? See, told you, beat me and you'll do what no one else can'Alex said smiling smugly, joking at the end. 'Anyway, don't be too tired. We got the way back to go or'Alex said pausing for effect. 'we could race back running round the lake but I do warn you know, I am quite a good runner when it comes down to it'Alex said smiling, not mentioning the fact that he was still training 2 hours when he didn't have classes every day.

"There is no way I am racing you back after all this" Cyndi said as she pointed at the water and looking at how far they had raced. She had the feeling that Alex only made challenges he thought he could win. "You'll just beat me anyway. One day though...I'll beat you at something Alex. Just wait and see..."Cyndi said with a mischievous smile.

'Ohh, help'Alex said pretending to die. He picked himself back up smiling. 'I wait to see the day'Alex said smiling. 'All what?'He asked laughing. 'That was nothing'he joked laughing. 'How do you propose we get back then? My jumpers still over there'Alex added, reminding her then.

"I dunno...I guess we'll have to run. All my stuffs over there too" Cyndi said, realizing that Alex was going to get his way and get her into another competition since if they walked it was likely to take a long time. "I wish I had my broom with me" Cyndi grumbled as she got up and got ready to head back.

Alex laughed as Cyndi grumbled about having her broom. He wondered why she didn't summon it but he wasn't goig to mention it. He was desperate to have a run. The swimming was making him feel deprived of land even though he had been on it for ages already. He smiled. 'Oh c'mon. It's not far.If you want, I'll give you a kiddy back if it's that hard for you,'Alex teased at the end though he didn't mind doing naything like that. All the better for his training.

Cyndi thought briefly about summoning her broom, but then changed her mind, figuring the exercise would do her good. "Thanks for the offer" Cyndi said with a giggle "but I think I can do it."

Cyndi looked at Alex and asked, "So...tell me the truth...you're like some superstar runner, right?" She had the feeling that she was about to be left in Alex's wind.

Alex laughed at the assumption she came up with. 'No, what made you come up with that answer?'Alex said laughing. 'I just do the odd running every day, keep me on time for classes sort of things'Alex answered her question .'ready?'

"The odd running?" Cyndi said with a note of disbelief in her voice and a smirk on her face. As Alex asked her whether she was ready, Cyndi nodded and said "As ready as I'll ever be."

Alex laughed at her disbelief. 'Yes the odd running,'he said smiling. 'Right good'he replied smiling. He started jogging at a nice steady pace. 'SO what kind of music you into?'he asked smiling. did i ask that already, he thought worridely.

Cyndi started jogging with Alex, happy that she was able to keep pace. She replied to his question by saying,"I listen to a little bit of everything, but I especially like rock music. How about you?"

'Rock, a bit of rap, hip-hop. Whatever's in the fashion. I want to keep my street cred after all'Alex said, joking at the end. He smiled and picked up the pace a bit.

Cyndi saw Alex pick up the pace, so she did too. So far, they weren't going too fast and she wasn't having trouble keeping up. "Street cred...ha" Cyndi said with a smirk, "So where exactly are you from? I know you went to Hogwarts Scotland, but do you live there?" Cyndi finished and then concentrated on running as she waited for his reply.

Alex smiled. 'Well, I'm not one for staying in one place. I'm a traveller. My family tend to move about alot so yeah, wherever takes our fancy that year'Alex answered smiling. After about 10 minutes, Alex picked up into a fast jog. He was used to this finding it still at a relaxing level. 'So what about you?'he asked.

Cyndi picked up the pace right alongside Alex, smiling at the ease at which she was able to keep up. "Well, my family leaves here in New Zealand now, but we're travelers too cuz of my dad's job" Cyndi answered as she continued jogging. At the pace they were going, they would be back where they started in no time. Good thing too because all of this exercise was making her hungry.

Alex smiled, seeing they only had 900m left to run. 'Oh, what's your dad do then?'Alex asked curious. He smiled before suddenly moving into 3/4 sprint of his, whihc was fast. He cut the 600m mark in half a minute, all warmed up now.

"Oh, he's a dra...HEY" Cyndi cut herself off as Alex began to sprint and quickly sped past her. Cyndi began to run full out trying to catch up and possibly beat him. There was only about 500 m left to go and she had a lot of ground to make up. She gave up answering his question as she needed all of her energy and focus to be on running as quickly as she could.

Alex listened only getting half of what he was. He smiled seeing Cyndi running up to catch him. He grinned before running flat out to where their jumpers were in 15 seconds. He slowed down as best as he could regaining his breath. He smiled waiting for Cyndi. 'What is he? I never caught it.'Alex asked again.

Cyndi could only watch as Alex continued to sprint and got to their things before she did. She was barely behind him though and when she arrived, she had to stop to catch her breath. The run had been great but when Cyndi heard Alex ask again what her father did, she could only put a finger up for him to wait.

Once Cyndi caught her breath, she answered "he works with dragons."

Alex smiled as he noticed she was completely out of breath unlike himself. 'Dragons? Isn't it illegal to keep dragons as pets?'he asked confused.

"What?" Cyndi said, just as confused as Alex. "Oh they're not our pets. My dad works at keeping the dragon population high so they don't go extinct. He works at a dragon wildlife place in the mountains."

'Oh,'Alex said understanding now.'Cool job'he thought to himself aloud before smiling. 'So, how about a race?'Alex asked, getting his jumper and finding it quite dry. He slipped it on and felt it nice and cosy now.

Cyndi began to pick up the blanket and stuff that had she had left there earlier. She straightened up as she heard Alex's question. "Are you serious?" she said with a laugh, "No way unless it's to the Great Hall for some food. I'm starving after all of this exercise."

Alex smiled and began to help her lift her things up, folding the clothes up as he did it. 'Well, why not?'Alex asked shrugging. 'You're really hungry?'Alex asked surprised. He had grown out of his food habits. Actually, he had grown off his food ever since his brother died. It was hard to find Alex eating more than two plates worth a day now.

"Thanks" Cyndi said as Alex began to help her gather her things. "I haven't eaten since breakfast" Cyndi replied wondering why Alex was so surprised, "aren't you hungry?" She finished packing her things and waited, unsure if they really were going to race to the castle or not.

Alex thought about what time it was then. Surely it was only lunch time, wasn't it? Alex shook his head. 'Nope.'Alex said.
