The first name on Kauri's list was a girl he had never met, but whose reputation had reached Kauri. He hadn't been at her demonstration, but everything he heard about her scared him somewhat. Kauri didn't think he had ever been treated so badly for being muggleborn, he definitely didn't see anything to protest about, and he wondered what kind of person would think they had it that badly. He didn't want his personal thoughts about her cause to sully what should be a happy event though, so when Kauri spotted the older girl on the way to breakfast he hurried over to her, smiling warmly just as he would for any other rose recipient. "Hey, you're Hayley Elridge, right?" He asked quickly, holding up his basket. "I've got a rose delivery for you!"

Hayley was in a good mood as she made her way through the entrance hall towards breakfast, intending to sneak a spot at the Gryffindor table and eat with her friends. But when she saw the boy with the basket of roses heading her way, her heart dropped. Hayley hadn't been able to bring herself to send any roses this year, after what had happened with Harley. She couldn't bear to think about it. But it really should have occurred to her that her friends would still send them. That even Harley might, still trying to pretend that nothing had changed when everything was wrong. "Yeah, I'm Hayley Elridge," she said, trying to keep these emotions out of her voice. This innocent stranger didn't deserve to be part of her problems. "Thanks."

Whatever Kauri had expected from the supposedly aggressive revolutionary, he couldn't help but think the girl in front of him just seemed... a little bit sad. It wasn't what he had thought she would be like at all, and his compassion immediately came through, wanting to cheer her up. Hopefully a nice rose would do the trick. "Here!" Kauri pulled the correct yellow rose from his basket, presenting it and the attached message with a flourish. "A very happy Valentines Day to you!"
Hayley,
Thanks for being so positive all the time. I needed it badly.
Len

Hayley's worry about the roses, then, at least in this case was unwarranted. As she unfolded the note and read it, a relieved smile slowly spread across her face. Not anything she didn't want to think about. Just a nice, sweet note from a friend - albeit one that was more than a little ironic just now. "Aww, sweet. Happy Valentines Day to you, too."
