Ava Davershire welcomed the students entering the Great Hall with a warm smile. The holidays had flown by, and the Headmistress couldn't believe that it was time for another year of school to start. The Sorting Ceremony was something Ava loved attending, so she made sure the Hall looked immaculate. The roof was, as always, charmed, the stars twinkling above the student's heads. The roaring fires on each end of the Hall kept the large room warm and homely, the candles flickering above the tables made the room even more magical.
Ava approached the podium, the chatter in the Hall quickly dying out. "Hello all, and welcome to another year at Hogwarts." Ava started off happily. "Welcome to all our new students, this will be your home for the next seven years - if you treat it well, it will treat you well. And welcome back to all our old students, it's great to see you all again!" Ava stated smiling. "A reminder to all that the Forbidden Forest is strictly out of bounds, and any rule breakers will be punished." Her blue eyes studied the new faces in front of her, some looking nervous, some excited, others indifferent. "First years, when your name is called, please come and sit here," Ava started, gesturing to the stool "And I will place the Sorting Hat on your head. The Sorting Hat will decide where you will be staying for your school years. When it's made it's decision, you may go and sit with you new House." Ava grinned, excited to get the year started.

OOCOut of Character:
As stated in the Information about Sorting thread, you must fill out the sorting form entirely properly and fill in an RP as exemplified in the post. If your RP does not leave room for the sorting hat to sort you: you will not be sorted. If the sorting hat does not receive your sorting form: you will not be sorted. Follow instructions and: you will be sorted.

You can edit your post once you are sorted, but be sure that you only reply to this topic once and it is through the sorting form provided. Thank you.

It comes but once, but once each year,
When, I, the sorting hat appear.
I appear to sort the latest batch,
To look within and find a match.
To seek the person who does reside,
Beneath the skin, deep down inside.

Rest assured, I do take care,
To avoid mistakes and always be fair,
Because I know my duty is very great,
The decisions I make affecting fate.
So do not approach with a sense of fear,
Embarrassed when seated upon your rear.
And when I’m placed upon your head,
Your thoughts should not be full of dread.
Approach with confidence, pure and true,
Give me the chance to honour you.

Those who step forth brave with pride,
Likely in Gryffindor they will reside.
Fire and Lion, scarlet and gold,
A house of friends, strong and bold.

Hard working kids who value fair play,
May find that Hufflepuff is where they stay.
The Earth and Badger, yellow and black.
Loyalty and tolerance, keep them on track.

Creativity and intelligence will help some soar,
Above the rest to Ravenclaw’s door.
Air and Eagle, bronze and blue.
The wisdom to make dreams come true.

And finally those, resourceful and cunning,
Ambitious and powerful are in the running.
They’ll join the house of silver and green,
Where water and serpents stage the scene.

Now, one last thing, please take heed,
Here is some advice that you may need.
This school has grown in a short time,
So have mistakes and heinous crime.
A challenge to all present, to look within,
No matter the house I've placed you in.
To do your best and persevere,
To use your strengths and face your fear.

The time has come, no more delay,
I call you forth, come on, let's play

Walking into Hogwarts New Zealand was another thing that he did not expect to ever do in his life. Orion Draco wanted to go to the school in Scotland, but his father, a former Ravenclaw, had some problems there so he did not want his only son going to that school. Orion had some family that went to Hogwarts New Zealand, so here he was. Orion entered with the other first years, and stood with his head hung low. He did not want to attract any attention to himself. His eerie blue eyes, the same eyes as his father, stared at his new shoes. He shook his head and waited for the time to go up to the stool and get sorted. It would take him ages because he was definitely one of those closer to the end of the alphabet. He was another Snow, but he was not pure-blood as far as he was aware, and he was not part-veela. His mom didn’t have information on her heritage, so therefore, he didn't know his own status. Whatever though, he would just stick to himself. He heard his name, and he walked through the much smaller crowd to sit on the stool. The hat perched on his dark brown hair. Orion waited patiently, wanting to be in the house his dad was in.

Dina walked into the Great Hall. It was everything she had ever dreamed about and more. Her brothers may be at Hogwarts Scotland, but she felt as if they were right here with her. Her father had attended Hogwarts Scotland, but her mother had attended Durmstrang. She had no idea how that school worked, but she remembered her father saying that he had been in Gryffindor. Her brother Zurial was in Gryffindor, so she was pretty excited about that. Both Jophiel and Micah were in Slytherin and Cassiel had been a Ravenclaw, so as far as she knew the only house unattended by her family was Hufflepuff, maybe she would be the one? Regardless, Dina was excited to be here and she just wanted to get on with it, it was all terribly exciting after all.

"Stanley, Dina".

Hearing her name called, Dina quickly steeled herself for what was to come and quickly made her way to the sorting hat. She found it strange that it spoke, despite being from a magical background. Normally her robes and other assorted clothing did not talk back to her when she addressed them, so she garnered that it was okay that she was clueless about these sorts of things. Still, maybe it wasn't all that strange. There were probably dozens of talking items of clothing if one only dined to look. Dina sat back onto the stool and waited patiently for the verdict.

He was finally there in the great hall and he was a little nervous, but he tried not to let it get to him. No, he was happy he was there and there was nothing to worry about, but he still couldn't help a nagging feeling at the back of his mind that something would go wrong. All he wanted to do was to get sorted and just get things over with already, but there was a list to get through and people who would go before him. Thankfully D was near the beginning of the alphabet so he wouldn't have to wait very long. But the wait he was having to go through right then was almost enough to drive him mad. His feet shuffled against the ground, fingers twirled behind his back when finally his name was called out.

Nerves gripped him by the heart, legs almost wanting to freeze up from under him. Somehow he still made his way up towards the stool. His heart was beating so loud he was sure everyone could hear it. So close to finding out where he would be for the next seven years of his life. So close. Slowly sitting down, Kurtis looked over the crowd of people staring back at him when the hat was placed over his head and the faces were blocked from view. All he could do now was beg to be sorted somewhere which would be a good fir for him and just wait for the hat's decision.

Yue Aurelious was still taking everything in. She never thought that she would actually be allowed to attend school. Though she was adopted and though she was loved dearly by Vincent and Hannah, she still felt as though she was undeserving of their love. She had obviously done something in her life that made her parents decide to give her up. Yue would really like to one day discover the truth of her adoption, but for now she had nothing to go on and so she continued to search. Hannah and Vincent helped her wherever possible so she was lucky for that indeed. Walking into the Great Hall had been rather the spectacle. She was pleased with all that she saw. Looking around, Yue could have almost smiled at the environment and the beauty, but alas, she had vowed never to do so and so she had not.

"Aurelious, Yue."

At the sound of her name, Yue immediately stepped forward and moved towards the stool that housed the hat. She was one of the first to be sorted after all, her name was very early in the alphabet. Bowing in a right angle to the hat on the stool, and possibly looking quite silly in the process, Yue soon sat and allowed the hat to be placed on her head. She trusted it implicitly. It was about to determine her life and she honestly could not wait. Uncertainty was a part of the human condition, she wanted to see how far that carried.

Venn was finally in the Great hall, and could not be happier.

The small blond remained quiet and apathetic, though, as he did not want a toothy grin to be the only thing his sisters saw, as they would forever mention it. No, he wanted them to see him happy, but not cracking his face in half with a smile. He did not recognise many people in the crowd, but he could spot his sisters easily, as they were sort of waving without being noticeable - but he was sure everyone in the hall could see them. Being inconspicuous was not something either girl was good at. He loved them, but he would never ask them to help him spy or anything. He smiled slightly to both as they locked eyes, and then looked at his shiny shoes that were not comfortable. He had made the decision that he wanted to be in Gryffindor with his sister, Veronica, but now was not so sure. The red house looked interesting, but red was not his favourite colour. He had considered hoping for Hufflepuff, but he wasn't sure if he could be with Kelsey for an extended period of time.

Having the last name Boneheart meant that he was called fairly quickly. With a glance at Veronica, Venn ascended the steps and looked at the hat curiously. He wanted to learn more about it, but knew that if he asked as many questions as he desired, he would either be here forever, or be kicked out before forever happened. Neither seemed pleasant. He breathed a sign of relief as the hat was on his head, falling over his eyes, and tried to clear his mind of his numerous questions so the hat could do whatever it needed to do, but it was difficult. Why were there four houses? How did the hat know what to do and where people belonged? Was there ever a time where the hat was confused? Was it always right or did it ever second-guess itself? Were there others of its kind around at other schools? Was it ever lonely, or did it have other magical hat friends it could play with? Did it ever just think that perhaps it was ready to retire to a nice hat rack on a sunny beach? Did it ever think that it could do with a wash or a few more stitches? He shook his head and sighed. "Sorry," he muttered, and decided to stop thinking about any other questions.</SIZE>

Dominik Perrie looked around the Great Hall as if he expected fireworks to begin at any time. He was giddy with excitement. He wanted to cut in front of everyone so that he could hurry and be sorted! The boy felt like dancing, but he needed to keep still. He still remembered when he got his letter of acceptance. He tried to not take it for granted. He was going to the school of his dreams, and he was going to make every moment of it count. He clapped happily every time someone was placed in a house. He looked towards the Gryffindor table. He really wanted to be a Gryffindor, but he was okay with any house. There were great people in every house. He was not going to close his mind to any opportunities! He wanted to make his parents proud, and he was not talking about his adoptive parents. He was talking about the parents that decided to abandon him. The thought did not bring a frown to his face, but it did make his heart ache a little. Was he really bad luck? He was going to prove to his parents that he was, indeed, good, and that they made a mistake. He was three when they left him. It was not like he had no memory of the people at all. He wanted them to take him back because it was not fair. It wasn't fair that they abandoned him like they did. It was irresponsible, but Dominik still wanted them back. It simply was not the same with Malcom and Vaclava.

"Perrie, Dominik!

Dominik happily walked up to the stool, and he took a seat. He looked over to the Ravenclaw table. Isaiah was a Ravenclaw. It would be cool to be a Ravenclaw too. He placed his hands in his lap as the Sorting Hat was placed on his head. "Oh. My. Gosh. The Sorting Hat is on my head!" he exclaimed excitedly. He felt as if he was a fangirl, but it was the Sorting Hat, the famous Sorting Hat! Any first year would be crazy to not be excited! He wanted to wrap the old Hat in wrapping paper and take him to his room! But, he had to be considerate of the other students. Dominik thought it would be a great prank to steal the Sorting Hat for a few days. He was sure that they would have a lot of intellectual conversations, and he could try to make the Hat laugh! Oh, he wanted to run around the Great Hall because of all of his excitement. He took in a deep breath, and he waited for the Hat to announce his new home

The train ride had been excruciatingly long, and as Saveli walked off the platform, and to the Great Hall, she felt the pinpricks of sleepiness in her leg. She stomped her left foot a bit, hoping to wake it up. It seemed to work well enough, and the petite blonde trotted to catch up with the rest of the eager students. Saveli looked at the faces of scared, excited first years, picking off which ones probably wouldn't make it too far in their lifetimes. It was fun to people watch, and Veli loved to create little stories in her head, or decide who might be useful to become friends with for future gain. The young woman herself was more prideful than excited, knowing that she was the first of her siblings to exhibit any sort of magical abilities. Her two older brothers, both in their teens, were squibs. It disappointed her mother to see that, which is why Veli was sure she was the favorite of the bunch. She wouldn't complain though, after all what girl didn't enjoy being spoiled?

The very large doors opened up to the group, and in a semi-organized fashion they were corralled in. Saveli hadn't even been listening to the woman who was speaking, knowing she was probably babbling about something unimportant. As she stood in the group, she saw the ancient looking hat she'd been warned about by her father, whom had attended the same school. It looked relatively well taken care of, considering her father seemed pretty old to her. One by one students were called up, seemingly in alphabetical order. Some girls beside her whispered giddily, asking what house each other wanted to be in. Saveli's father was in Slytherin, but her mother, whom attended school in Scotland, was a Ravenclaw. Veli though? She didn't care what house she was in, so long as she could achieve a higher education, and having people to step on to get there would make it all that much easier.

"C'mon already." The young girl whispered to herself, growing more impatient as the list went on. Finally it was time, and Saveli was called to her judgement. She sat down, crossing her feet at the ankle, and waited. The hat was placed over her blonde curls, and covered her eyes. She thought quietly about her fate, 'the Hufflepuffs are said to be kind, and loyal, does that mean they'd be easy to get help from?' She wondered to herself, thinking of the different ways she could assure her ability to come out on top whether it be in classes or otherwise. 'Slytherin's are cunning, they'd be the house to look out for.' She though, squinting her eyes shut. 'Whatever you chose, Hat, make it good.' She though, anxiety simmering somewhere deep inside her, waiting for the hat to speak.

When Hogwarts Express stopped, Abigail let out a long sigh of relief. It really was a tiring day that she spent most of her time on the train doing nothing but sitting quietly. She actually wanted to talk with someone she shared the compartment, like maybe a little chit-chat, but this someone just came in and slept until the very last minute of the trip. So now she was very happy to join the other unsorted students to the castle, and wow-ed almost every single thing she saw in the room including those thousands floating candles and the four different banners.

Abigail knew nothing about Hogwarts, or magic, or even she herself as a witch. She barely understood why she has this kind of ability but the rest of her family don't. She promised Alessia she will write a letter to her as soon as she makes it to the first day of school at the wizarding institute. Before that, she got to be sorted into one of the house. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin, let the humble Sorting Hat chose it for her. She then walked straight to the chair when someone called her name, and sit and waited patiently. "Mr. Hat, please take me somewhere I belong."

<SIZE size="50">Lydia Archer could not really believe that this was finally her time. It was finally the time where she would be going to hogwarts. It seemed to her that she'd been waiting for this moment all too long. It had somehow still managed to creep up on her, but she'd been waiting for a while. Lydia remembered, vaguely her brother leaving for Hogwarts, when she'd been very young, now, here it was, her turn, and also her brother's last year. She was very excited for this. Over the past few weeks of the holiday she'd been practicing her quidditch, she had been trying really hard to get herself completely ready, and then this was finally it. Lydia had been clear to her parents that she would be fine, that there was no worry over her not being completely fine. Lydia had been raised a little differently than her elder brother. She was one of the Archer's in the large Archer tree that could see colour, but being the youngest of her parents, they had completely doted on her. They had been protective and worried in a way she'd never really seen them be towards her brother, but then again, he had always been a little bit older than her, so she assumed it had to have something to do with that. He'd always been older. Lydia didn't mind too much, but she was very much looking forward to carving her own path and achieving her own things. Her brother had told her to not be too worried about any of it, that she'd be fine, but Lydia was still nervous, she knew that the Archer name was perhaps not the most favourable name to have. She would live in the shadows of her high achieving brother, and that of her cousin too. But, this didn't really stop her excitement about sorting, or the school in general. She just was really hoping she wouldn't end up in Gryffindor, really living in her brothers shadow, or Slytherin, and dealing with her cousins legacy. Although, if she had to pick between the two, her cousin would win each time. However, what they'd been or were, was not that much of a concern, this was Lydia's turn. It was her turn to be on top, it was her turn to be sort and begin what would be the greatest seven years of her life. For Lydia she wasn't overly fussed about her house, about whatever house she'd be sorted into, because for the young girl it didn't matter what house it was, it was how she acted while in the house that mattered. Which was why, she was just so happy to be able to be sorted. That one thing she had really been looking forward to. It was why, as she stood with the others in her year, making their way to the great hall, where she believed she'd be a bundle of nerves, she was practically overflowing with excitement. She just couldn't hold it in. She was so excited. After all that travelling, and all the waiting, it would all soon be over, and worth it.

Lydia followed the others in her year as she stepped into the great hall. Her eyes glanced around the room, finding themselves landing on the Gryffindor table, where both her brother, and Ailsa were sat. She smiled at them, and gave a small wave, before focusing on the task at hand. While she loved her family, she should be spending this time focusing on herself. Lydia knew what this ceremony would involve. She knew what she would have to do. She'd been told enough time by various members of her family. She knew that she would have to let the hat do it's thing, and not be too bothered by the end result. Though Lydia was really hoping for something that was not gryffindor. She liked Gryffindor a lot as a house, but she didn't want to be one. She wanted to be a Ravenclaw, she believed she was smart enough. She believed she'd be able to be a Ravenclaw. There was no part of her that didn't think she was perfectly capable of that, but then again, she was also sure that she had enough traits to fit in with any of the houses. Perhaps even Slytherin. which wouldn't be a bad thing. She looked to the head teacher as the sorting ceremony began. It began as students were welcomed back, and then it got underway, the hat, being brought out, and then it burst into song. Having known this was going to happen, Lydia was just able to enjoy it. She'd been raised around magic, she knew a lot of small spells, she couldn't do them, but she knew how to, when she finally was able to give a few a try. She liked the song, it was good. It was a little funny that a hat was singing, but this was Hogwarts and she knew lots of things like that would likely happen. And then once the hat had finished it was finally time for people to be sorted. She knew she'd be pretty early on, with a surname beginning with A, she was sure she'd be one of the first. While she was excited, Lydia kind of wished she had a surname with a later letter in the alphabet. however, such a thing couldn't happen, so soon, it was said,

Archer, Lydia

Lydia almost squealed with excitement over hearing her name. She pushed through the crowd slightly and then walked up to the seat. She was nervous as hell now. Her excitement still really clear, but she was also really nervous. She knew it would go fine. of course it would. It had never gone wrong before. Lydia took a deep breath as the hat was about to be placed on her head. She glanced to the gryffindor table and found her brother who was smiling at her encouragingly. Lydia smiled as the hat was placed on her head, she knew that she'd likely do well in the same house as her brother, but she didn't want to be in that house. Lydia was rooting for Ravenclaw.

Kairi Larxene Styx walked into the Great Hall, and it did not even surprise her. She knew all that was to know already. Her siblings told her everything there was to know about this school. Bothizar hated the school the most because of his lack of interest in it. Kairi, on the other hand, had her own things to look forward to. She wanted to be the top duelist in the school. Her cousin, Vladimir Zhefarovich, was the top duelist and so was Joanna Dragonov. Both of them were her cousins. She was hoping that this would happen to her one day. Perhaps not as a first year. Kairi looked down at the ground for a few moments, to wait to be sorted. She needed it. Kairi looked up at the Headmistress as the sorting continued. Some were obvious on what houses that they belonged in. She had no idea where she would go, but to be honest, she did not care. As long as it did not stand in her way of getting her dream goal. Something here had to trigger it though. She heard her name and walked up to the stool. The hat perched on her head, and she waited patiently to be sorted.

Havoc Zhefarovich looked forward to sorting, and he hoped that he could be in the same house as Demonia, so that she could still watch over him. She was the best big sister that they had. Havoc also wanted to be in the same house as his brother, Chaos, to keep an eye on him. Havoc let out a sigh before he realized that he would be one of the last ones to be sorted, and Chaos would be sorted before him. That was something. At least he would know where Chaos was going. Havoc stood with the other first years, looking up at the Headmistress and the mysterious hat. He let out a sigh as the crowd grew smaller and smaller. His purple eyes stared down onto his shoes before he finally, at long last, heard his name called up to be sorted. Havoc grinned and he walked up to the stool. He sat down and felt the hat land on his head. 'What sort of magic made you? My parents didn't go to Hogwarts so I don't know much about the houses, or how you even work,' thought Havoc, not really sure that the hat could or could not hear him. Havoc was definitely unique.

Chaos Zhefarovich smirked as he entered the Great Hall with the crowd. Oh, a new playground for him to play with, this all was so exciting. He looked over at Havoc who looked dangerously similar, but the eyes were different. The same color, of course, but the two had different expressions. Havoc was kinder, wiser. Chaos was just that, chaos. He looked up at the Headmistress as she called out names. Oh, it was going to take ages for them to be sorted! However, he heard each name, and he would try to remember it for potential victims, perhaps some of the shorter students. He honestly did not know what he was going to do with himself. There was too much excitement here. He could burst from looking around for something to get into. He just hoped not to get caught by Professor Styx. Almost as if Havoc could sense the thoughts of Chaos, he felt a hand on his shoulder, as if to calm him down. Before he knew it, Chaos was called up. Smirking, Chaos walked up to the stool and left Havoc behind. He sat down and his eyes wondered up to see the hat lowered onto his head. Any moment, he would be joining his new family.

Now that Desideratus was here, he just wanted to go. Go anywhere, really. He didn't care where he would be going, or how long he would be there, just anywhere but here. There were too many people, and he could already feel eyes on him, and the walls closing in. This was the worst thing to ever happen to him. He wanted to be here, just not with so many others. Not with so many eyes watching and mouths talking - how was he ever going to get out of here quietly with all these witnesses? The young blond sighed, resigned to his fate. He was stuck here, but hopefully not for too long.

Having a last name beginning with L, he was not going to be waiting nearly as long as others, and he was grateful. He only knew one person here, and that was Dexter, but he had no idea what house the older boy was in. Slytherin, or something. The green one, by any means. But he was not sure if he wanted to be with Dexter, as living in another's shadow wasn't something he craved, but neither was being totally alone in a new place. Familiarity would be nice, but he and Dexter did not often talk enough for Desideratus to crave his presence. His blue eyes travelled from the ground to the hat as his name was called, and he made his way towards it.

Once he sat down, Desideratus allowed his legs to swing a little, and the hat to fall over his eyes. This was it. His future was in the hands of an old hat. Oh joy.

Sylvonna stands with all the other new students, she couldn't believe she was here. Hogwarts New Zealand a school for witches and wizards, and she was a witch! She wondered what kind of things witches did, are there any scientist witches or veterinarian witches? Lost in her thoughts she was staring at the the ceiling and startled when the headmaster started speaking. 'This is it', she thought, 'I'm going to be sorted'. She gasped as the hat started talking while on the first kid's head. Talking hats! Everything here was full of surprises. She bounced lightly on her heels as she watched the other kids go up. After what felt like forever to Sylvonna (but was really a matter of minutes), her name was called. She froze, and stopped bouncing. Trying to look confident she slowly walked up to the stool her eyes never wavering from the sorting hat. As she sat down she gulped nervously and looked at all the other students in the hall. She was cheered when she saw students smiling at her and her last thought before the hat went over her head was 'I'm going to make friends here'.

Viviana was nearly bouncing off the walls with excitement as she entered into the beautiful building she would call home for nine months. She had large, wonder filled orbs that danced from the ceiling, to the students, to the hopefuls she walked with. Her parents had given her big hugs and kisses, and promised to always write. Vee would of course write them as well, but knowing her parents would care enough to sent a letter first made her feel warm inside. That warmth was enough to spread onto her face, which looked like it may split. She chattered among girls about what house she may be in and what her favorite color was, occasionally stopping to giggle or check to see if anyone was speaking. There was a sudden silence over the hall, and all groups ceased their talking, the time was here.

Viv had a last name that was far down the list, and as the time grew closer she couldn't help but wonder which house she would be in. Her father went to an institute that did not have houses like this, and her mother was never given the chance to explore magic, as she was a squib - her grandmother being the magical one. Some students said they knew they'd be in Slytherin, because that's where all of their family had been. Others said they hated that house, and wanted Ravenclaw, because they were the smartest. Viviana hadn't really done any research, and didn't know which house she would belong in - though if the Slytherins were as nasty as they said, it wasn't that house. Glancing back for only a moment, the young brunette scanned the crowd. She wondered to herself if she would make friends, though her mother had assured her she would. That was the moment she heard her name, her fate decide in two short words.

Nacht, Viviana.

Viviana stepped through the remaining students and up to the platform. This was it. As the old hat that was supposed to know how to sort her was sat on her hand, all she could think about was where she belonged. She wanted a place she would fit into, a place to call a home away from home, where she'd make friends. She wanted support, and to be supportive. And she also wanted anything but Slytherin because they sounded mean, and while she knew she shouldn't judge, it still scared her.

Ada James had been waiting for this day, ever since her mother told her she was of magical blood all Ada could think of was Hogwarts. She stood in the middle of the action, all the other first years in a chaotic flurry around her. Cautiously waiting, not wanting to get into other students way, she stood as still as a statue. Ada still couldn't believe that she was at Hogwarts, and that her new life was finally starting. She couldn't help but to reminisce in that moment, thinking back to all the stories her mum had told her. Ada was at last where she had always wanted to be. She wondered how Bruno, her cat, was doing; if he was okay with all of her bags. She could hear laughter and the excited chatter of the students in the Great Hall, suddenly becoming over anxious to join them. Ada's attention shifted over when she saw that the painting on the walls moved, and talked. It was the most beautiful, yet absurd thing she has ever seen in her life. She couldn't take her eyes off these strange, lively paintings. Ada must have spaced out because before she knew it, Professor Davershire (as she would later introduce herself) came to take them into the hall.

The first thing Ada noticed was the smell, it was to blissful, and how much it made her mouth water. It smelled exactly like Christmas, potentially even better. Next, came the students, the population was sup rising. All these students were magical just like she was, and yet, she had never heard of magic until she was eight years old. Following the clump of first years, Ada couldn't contain her squeals of glee. It wasn't like her to do such a thing, but, she felt it wasn't an inappropriate decision. She waited in line as they went down the list: alphabetical, by last name. 'James isn't to far down' she thought to herself. Hearing the hat call out the different house names made her nervous, yet excited all at once.

"James, Ada"

Hearing her name being called, Ada almost forgot how to walk. She staggered forward, fixing her tie and straightening her blouse all of a sudden being the center of attention. Ada did not mind this, but, it was more than individual attention from multiple people than she had ever had before. Pulling herself together, she confidently walked the last stretch and lowered herself gently onto the stool. Closing her eyes, she said nothing, and thought nothing. "You'll do well in Ravenclaw!"

Ashlei Kim was impatient. She wanted the line to move faster. She felt like the Sorting Hat was taking forever. She wondered how hard it was to go through a child's mind and not scream at some of the things he saw. She finally felt like she had some wiggle room. Maybe they had pizza here? Her mother hated pizza. Ashlei had only had it because she hung out with a muggle once. Her mother was furious after she found out. Anwar had snitched. After that, Ashlei made sure she told her older brother nothing. She tapped her foot impatiently as she waited for her name to be called. She did not even know what house she wanted to be in. Her mother and father did not attend Hogwarts, and her older brother did not either. She was the first one ever to be sorted. She was glad that her father was able to convince his wife. She was the only daughter, so she assumed her mother wanted to keep her close to home. The topic of homeschooling even came up for her! Ashlei Kim knew she would die if she had to be stuck with her mother teaching her all day.

"Kim, Ashlei."

Ashlei smiled lightly, and she began to walk towards the stool. She took a seat. Ugh. She hated all these eyes on her. She knew that they were judging all the fat she had on her body at such a young age. She still had time to grow. She sat confidently, and she closed her eyes as the hat was placed on her head. She thought about the freedom Hogwarts would bring her. She was not longer restricted, and she could maybe find words to express her thoughts clearly while she was in her new home. Ashlei did not know what she wanted from Hogwarts, but she knew that she was going to get something out of it.

"Yes, you'll get something out of this school but will you be able to offer something in return? That is the question. Guess we'll find out when you're in Ravenclaw!"

Helen Mowry could not find a word to explain what she was feeling. She was the first in her family to go to Hogwarts. She was proud of herself. Hezekiah and Rama had been the ones that watched her train leave for the station. Rama had began to cry, and she had to tell her niece that she would be back soon. Helen knew that she could not be more proud than her parents were. They had thrown her a party to congratulate her acceptance. She felt that it was extra, but she was not going to ruin her family's groove. She was rude, but she did let people slide out of the kindness of her heart. She did not notice her the long wait because she was busy taking in everything about the school. The Hall was lit by many beautiful candles, and the smell of food made her stomach grumble. She could not wait to dig into the food that the school provided. Helen loved to eat. She did not care if she looked like a gremlin. She loved food.

"Mowry, Helen"

Helen ran up to the stool and sat down. She glanced at every table before the Hat was place on her head. She wanted to be in the house that would help her find happiness. She knew she was going to complain about something in every house, but if it was going to lead her to true happiness. She did not care. There were just so many answers that she needed to have answered. How did werewolves even end up in the magical world? Was it a potion gone wrong? Her brother was a werewolf, so her curiosity was on behalf of him. She closed her eyes and tried to calm her mind so that the Sorting Hat would not have such a hard time. She wondered if the Hat was nervous when he first started sorting children. That would be an interesting answer.

Ruth's eyes narrowed as the group of first-years entered the hall. She tried to take in everything. The dancing candlelight, the tapestries on the walls, the four tables for the students and one for the teachers. Most of the students looked bored; some were eyeing the first-years up, judging them. Ruth didn't mind the watchful gazes. She would probably be the same.

The centre of attention was at the front of the hall, where a big, mangy hat sat on a stool. Ruth supposed it was the Sorting Hat, which she had read something about, and dismissed it as harmless. She tried to focus on other things. The teachers' smiles - which were genuine and which were fake. The exits, the entries, and maybe the candlelit sky just went on for ever and ever?

As the students gradually were sorted into their house, Ruth filed their names away into the back of her mind. If she could remember everybody, and her first impressions of them, maybe she could get a good idea of their personality before rumours took things out of control. Ruth wished her friends were here. Maybe they would have laughed together.

"Windmere, Ruth," called the lady standing by the stool.

Ruth's eyes narrowed further as she walked over. This was it. As the hat was placed over her head, Ruth vaguely wondered if magic was all it was cracked up to be

Sadire entered the rather large room with the rest of the kids his age. He knew not what the room was called for all he knew that the room itself was much, much, much larger than his old school. And not to mention the whole castle. He was sure that he would get lost within the walls of the said structure, though he found the place quite uncomfortable. He was used to the outdoors and living only in a small nipa hut and going out to the sandy beach and spending time on the waves of the sea. With the letter he had received, his whole world turned upside-down. His parents worked extremely hard to get him on a plane to New Zealand and they even had to borrow money from the neighbors with a promise to repay in due time. Now, he was living in quite the luxury which was out of his comfort zone. The young boy eventually snapped out of his thoughts when a hat began to talk. A HAT! That was not normal! Completely not normal! He wondered if he was dreaming.

Nope, Sadire was definitely not dreaming about this whole thing. The hat was talking. Names were being called. And students were place into... houses? Perhaps they equaled "sections" in his previous school. Yep, that was probably it. And so, he merely waited for his turn which would take quite a while considering that his surname was Ting. Name after name was called until his was finally called. He walked straight though he could hear his heart thumping wildly. What if this was all a big misunderstanding and he was not who they think he is? What if he was no wizard? What if they suddenly send him back home? Thoughts ran rampant in his head, most of were questions of what ifs. He barely even registered when he had sat down and when the hat was placed upon his head for sorting.

"You better start believing it. You really are a wizard and the right house for you is Hufflepuff!"

Joel walked to the front of the Great Hall with the other unsorted students. He had never seen anything as beautiful as the Great Hall before. Joel stood frozen when the women in front of them called out their names. The students were starting to be sorted. Eventually his name was called "Gilligan, Joel". He looked around nervously, still a little bit afraid. Joel inhaled deeply, smiled, and approached the three-legged stool that stood in front of the hall. He sat down more nervous and afraid as ever, looking at the four big tables. He inhaled once more and said, almost soundless 'I'm ready for it.. Mister Hat..'' Joel waited nervously for the Hat's awnser.

Madison would rather not be doing this. School was never her thing, nor was making friends. Hogwarts combined both of her weaknesses together and put them into one big stirring pot of misery. This wasn't like a weekend at grandma's either, where she had to suffer for only a few days and then she was home free. Nope, this torture was to go on for seven years. "To think, I could just learn at home and escape all of this. How hard is it to teach magic?" Madison thought to herself, burying herself further within hers thoughts. Madison's tiny face softened the moment she got a good look at the Great Hall they piled into. Despite her dislike for being here, she could admit that the castle was indeed beautiful. Her brothers were here weren't they? Did they know who she was? Madison had never met them before, all that she knew was that their names were Mason and Matt, and that they attended this school. "I want to go home." Madison repeated to herself as she tuned the Headmistress out. One by one the students were called up to be sorted by having a hat placed on their heads.

"How weird." Madison blinked and looked around, everyone was staring at her. "She called your name." One of the students behind her hissed crudely before giving Madison a rough push forward. Madison stumbled forward and turned to give the girl that had pushed her a dirty look. Madison might have not been paying attention, but that didn't mean she needed to be pushed. Shaking her head, the blonde made her way up to the stool, where she sat down and waited for the hat to be placed on her head. Madison wasn't quite sure if she trusted a hat to put here where she needed to go, but it would seem as if all the others before her had no problem, so perhaps it had a better idea of what it was doing than Madison would have guessed by mere observation.

"Hufflepuff!"

"My parents would probably die on the spot if they could see me now." Lais' parents were against this entire thing. They hated magic and they hated Lais because she was indeed a witch. The day she got her Hogwarts acceptance letter they had decided to throw Lais out. To them, magic was a sin and so was the act of believing in it. If it hadn't been for Lais' grandmother, Lais would not only be homeless, but also unable to come to Hogwarts to start her first year of school. The old woman supported Lais' abilities and pushed her to try Hogwarts and see if she liked it. This was far from anything Lais wanted. Her parents were really against magic, and for most of her life Lais had been raised up with the same ideals, she was supposed to believe this sort of stuff was bad, yet here she was to practice it? Piercing blue eyes peeked out from behind a chunk of brown hair as Lais took in her surroundings. A part of her was still unsure if this was still real. Lais had become so critical of magic and the idea of it that she could barely believe anything she was seeing anymore.

Standing among the other kids, Lais felt herself growing annoyed. Everyone seemed so excited and sure of themselves. Except for the girl standing right in front of Lais. Her name had been called several times and she continued to sit there, dazed and unaware of anything. The girl had just come out of it by the time Lais had had enough. "She called your name." Lais hissed as she nudged the girl forward. Lais wanted to just get this over with. She didn't belong here, yeah she was magical and all, but that didn't mean she belonged here. Once Lais' name was called, she turned her attention towards the front and headed to the stool. Without sparing a single glance to any of the students still waiting to be sorted, Lais sat down. Did everyone who come to Hogwarts belong here? Had there ever been a student that the hat couldn't sort? Lais wanted badly to believe that her parents were wrong, but she couldn't help but shake the fact that this still felt unreal.
