Ava Davershire welcomed the students entering the Great Hall with a warm smile. The holidays had flown by, and the Headmistress couldn't believe that it was time for another year of school to start. The Sorting Ceremony was something Ava loved being a part of, so she made sure the Hall looked immaculate. The roof was, as always, charmed, the stars twinkling above the student's heads. The roaring fires on each end of the Hall kept the large room warm and homely, the candles flickering above the tables made the room even more magical.
Ava approached the podium, the chatter in the Hall quickly dying out. "Hello all, and welcome to another year at Hogwarts." Ava started off happily. "Welcome to all our new students, this will be your home for the next seven years - if you treat it well, it will treat you well. And welcome back to all our old students, it's great to see you all again!" Ava stated smiling. "A reminder to all that the Forbidden Forest is strictly out of bounds, and any rule breakers will be punished." Her blue eyes studied the new faces in front of her, some looking nervous, some excited, others indifferent. "First years, when your name is called, please come and sit here," Ava started, gesturing to the stool "And I will place the Sorting Hat on your head. The Sorting Hat will decide where you will be staying for your school years. When it's made it's decision, you may go and sit with you new House." Ava grinned, excited to get the year started.

As stated in the Information about Sorting thread, you must fill out the sorting form entirely properly and fill in an RP as exemplified in the post. If your RP does not leave room for the sorting hat to sort you: you will not be sorted. If the sorting hat does not receive your sorting form: you will not be sorted. Follow instructions and: you will be sorted.

You can edit your post once you are sorted, but be sure that you only reply to this topic once and it is through the sorting form provided. Thank you.

It comes but once, but once each year,
When, I, the sorting hat appear.
I appear to sort the latest batch,
To look within and find a match.
To seek the person who does reside,
Beneath the skin, deep down inside.

Rest assured, I do take care,
To avoid mistakes and always be fair,
Because I know my duty is very great,
The decisions I make affecting fate.
So do not approach with a sense of fear,
Embarrassed when seated upon your rear.
And when I’m placed upon your head,
Your thoughts should not be full of dread.
Approach with confidence, pure and true,
Give me the chance to honour you.

Those who step forth brave with pride,
Likely in Gryffindor they will reside.
Fire and Lion, scarlet and gold,
A house of friends, strong and bold.

Hard working kids who value fair play,
May find that Hufflepuff is where they stay.
The Earth and Badger, yellow and black.
Loyalty and tolerance, keep them on track.

Creativity and intelligence will help some soar,
Above the rest to Ravenclaw’s door.
Air and Eagle, bronze and blue.
The wisdom to make dreams come true.

And finally those, resourceful and cunning,
Ambitious and powerful are in the running.
They’ll join the house of silver and green,
Where water and serpents stage the scene.

Now, one last thing, please take heed,
Here is some advice that you may need.
This school has grown in a short time,
So have mistakes and heinous crime.
A challenge to all present, to look within,
No matter the house I've placed you in.
To do your best and persevere,
To use your strengths and face your fear.

The time has come, no more delay,
I call you forth, come on, let’s play

Rebecca Koshiba walked into the Great Hall, her eyes looking around and taking in the sight before her. It was truly magnificent and the young Koshiba found herself wondering if this was how Eden, Lilith and Tohoru might have felt being here. The place was massive and loomed like a shadow on her soul. She shook her head with amazement at the sheer overwhelming excitement she felt. She wasn't one to go showing her emotions on her face, but at this moment, she thought she could feel the barest hint of a smile on her young features. She was sure that she would never forget this feeling anytime soon. Even through all the excitement of her young life since finding out her family secret, Bex knew that she was safe and that she was loved even if she barely spoke to anyone anymore. Not that she was unused to it. For many years she never uttered a word and so she was mostly still a very quiet and private person. However, if she liked someone they would know it. She doubted there were many in Japan that did not know her families name. Especially seeing as Kaoru was now imprisoned in Azkaban. She still had not had the time to discern for herself how she felt about this. She had been meaning to speak with Eden or her mother, but had not had the chance as all had been busy. Now with Eden's baby and everything else she didn't really know where she fit in anymore. However, now that she was here, she would have a chance to shine and make her family see that she is worthy of them. However, seeing as her name was Koshiba, she was going to have to wait alittle while to discover her house. Not that she minded of course, she was - afterall - a very patient person.

"Koshiba, Rebecca!"

It was now her time to be placed among those whom would help her thrive. Not that she really thought that she would make any friends among them really. She didn't really like people at the best of times and she found that people often didn't like the fact that she was not very talkative, which didn't bother her at all. The few people she had met that were her age annoyed her and so with that thought in mind, Rebecca Koshiba made her way up to the stool to await her uncertain future. Eden may be a seer, but nothing would prepare her for what she would face in school.

"SLYTHERIN!"

Benjamin Metzger stepped into the Great Hall, and he was unsure what he should feel about this mess. Benjamin had never been separated from his sister before, so this was very new to him. Shrugging, he stood with the others as he entered the Great Hall even further. He looked around with his blue-green eyes before he ran his fingers through his blond hair. He looked down at the floor. He looked up when he heard the Headmistress call out the names, and how the Forbidden Forest was indeed forbidden. Well, that might be where he would find his place to read. That would be fun! Benjamin smirked and looked around the great hall at the other students. He then looked down at his shoes, before he briefly wondered what house he would be sorted into. Damian was sorted into Gryffindor, but he was unsure if he would be placed there. Dietrich, his dad, went to Durmstrang, and one of his friends that died earlier was in Slytheirn. He did not know much about the houses, but he knew that he was not like his uncle at all. Benjamin heard the Headmistress call out names, and his own name would not be called out for some time.

Finally, his name was called. Benjamin did not know if anyone was whispering about his name cause it was the same as his dad's. The one seeker that was so open about his ex Michael. He walked through the crowd of people, before he approached the stool. He looked ahead with a strong mind, before he sat down onto the stool. He looked around the students, before he felt the hat on top of his head. He had seen it talk, and it was not surprising to him. He awaited for the final judgment. He was dying to know what house he belonged in, and he was being as patient as ever. He was normally patient anyway.

"SLYTHERIN!"

Lamia had never been so amazed in her life. The Castle was so massive and magnificent, Lamia could never have ever dreamed something like this up. Though the train ride was full, Lamia had managed to find herself an empty compartment. It was lonely, but she didn't feel like having company; especially if they were annoying and then she'd have to put up with them. Walking by herself in the group, Lamia managed to get to the front, although she realized it hardly mattered, as they would be going in alphabetical order anyway. Feeling impatient, Lamia sighed and looked around the Hall, amazed to see so many people. With that many, she was sure she'd find someone she could get along with. The young girl didn't quite understand how the 'House' system worked, but was sure she'd pick it up soon enough.
Finally, she heard the Headmistress call her name. Lamia lifted her head high and tightened her pony-tail, before walking confidently on the stage. Turning around, she loved the feeling of the spotlight as everyone watched her sitting down. A thousand eyes was all she saw until she felt the hat on her head, and darkness covered her eyes.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Rhi had been told that that she was a witch two weeks ago. When for the first time her aunt Bridge visited from Mull. Since then they had followed an interesting couple of weeks. As her parents were working It was Aunt Brige who had helped her, they had somehow cone to a street down a windy alley where she was able to buy school books and a wand, the funny thing was when she had tried to find it again she couldn't find it.
This morning she had caught a plane to Sydney, then another flight to new Zealand and then a train ride. Needless to say she was a little tired. She was sith the other new students. Most of them looked just as lost as she was. Some were waving older students, maybe siblings. Her eyes were heavy, and she just wanted to go to her new bed. So she was refreshed for class. Unfortunately it looked like they had to be sorted before the feast and bed. She didn't know what she was being sorted into. Maybe houses like her last school but they had been random, she had been in Tamar. They had been named after the rivers of Tasmania. She looked around the hall wishing she had a camera to take pictures of it to send home but she had but it in her bag that was wherever her bags had gone. Instead she just looked around trying to capture everything in her memory. Soon each student was called and went to sit on a stool to be sorted. From the time she watched she realised that Gryffindor house was the red one, hufflepuff yellow, ravenclaw blue and slytherin green. Still she didn’t know what was the difference between them, It seemed the Red ones were brave and the blue were smart but the other two she was still working out. About half of the students had been called before she heard her name called by the headmistress "McGowan, Rhiannon". She got up and headed up like she had watched the other students. And placed the hat on her head wondering how this worked.

"Ravenclaws aren't just smart - you can be plenty smart in any house. What Ravenclaw prizes above all is wisdom. You'll have to work out at least one of the other two fairly quickly, because that's where you belong - HUFFLEPUFF!"

wisdom Rhiannon thought when she heard the hat whisper in her ear. I can be wise. however she gathered the hat somehow knew better and the headmistress take it off her head. "thank you" she muttered not sure if to the hat or the headmistress before she got up and the group of people cheering made it clear what table she was meant t sit at. the yellow one. the one who's meaning she didn't quite know yet but she was sure she would find out soon. she watched the rest of the sorting joining in the cheering every time the hat said hufflepuff. her prior tiered had gone and once the ceremony had finished and the feast began she started to eat and chat to those around her.

Dexter Lesley walked into the Great Hall with his hair being twirled in his fingers. It was quite big, and the crowds made him feel small. he wasn't quite nervous, though. In fact, he felt quite confident about this. He was excited to be here, he was not going to shudder and shake. It was a hall with people, not a desert with monsters. He examined the hall and tried to absorb as many faces as possible. He doubted he would remember half of them, but he was sure he would remember this day for some time. Well, the important parts anyway. He looked up when the headmistress began to speak. She appeared to be nice. A warning was given out about a forest. Now why would they call a forest the 'Forbidden Forest'? That was just begging for someone to run through there with a bunch of friends and be scarred for life. He shrugged to himself. Personally, Dexxie would have called it something brighter, something boring, something that would make students think that it was a silly place to go to. That would stop rule breakers better than just threatening them.

They were told what was going to happen. It all seemed like so much fun. Dexter was quite excited. He continued to twirl his hair as names were called. He was to wait a little while until his name was called. He didn't overly mind, his mind continued to wonder until he heard his name announced. A smile broke on his face and he walked. He sat on the stool and swung his legs ideally. He wanted this to happen quickly, but at the same time he wanted to continue remaining on the stool. When the hat was placed on his head, he smiled brightly. He couldn't wait to hear what house he would be in.

"You'll do quite well in SLYTHERIN!"

Laynithenea is talking amongst her friends boasting that she is from a family that has been in the Slytherin house for several generations. As she waits she also points out to her friends the nice new robes she had just gotten for a rather expensive price. She was talking and flaunting herself on up to the moment when Professor McGonagall called her name for the sorting. She then proceeded to walk to the chair and sat down as the hat was placed upon her head, thinking to herself I hope I am sorted into Slytherin.

"As you wish. SLYTHERIN!"

OOCOut of Character:
Note that this is Hogwarts New Zealand and Professor McGonagall is not here.

She walked into the Great Hall, not immediately seeing any of her friends, and more nervous than she'd ever been. She walked through the crowd, spotting a friend. She stood next to him, visibly shaking. She had two houses in mind, Ravenclaw or Slytherin, but she didn't care which one she got, considering that they were both good fits for her. She tried to calm herself down as everyone else was being called, and when it was finally her turn, she tripped and fell up the stairs. She didn't care though, because this was one of the best days of her life, everything had been leading up to this moment, and she had pictured it in her mind thousands of times. As the hat sank onto her head and over her eyes, time seemed to slow, and she pleaded, "just pick something I'll be happy with", and she closed her eyes, waiting for it to call out a house.

"You'll find this is less about your happiness, and more about where you'll do well. In your case, you just might find both in the same house. GRYFFINDOR!"

Galatea walks with the the rest of the first-years up to the headtable. She can clearly feel the butterflies in her stomach and she is happy that the sorting is before dinner, not after. She snaps out of her thouths when the professor starts to read the names. Soon it is her turn. She walks slowly up to the stool and she feel the butterflies turn into very angry bumblebees when the hat was put on her head.

"Might as well be RAVENCLAW!"

Fedorowicz, Rafael

Rafael nervously stepped out of the line of first years and began to make his way up the aisle to the old hat resting on a rickety stool. Despite its plain appearance, this was no ordinary hat; this was the Sorting Hat, created by the Founders to 'sort' new students into the four House's: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. Rafael knew all about the Sorting Hat and how it had came to be. He had asked his father about it, afraid he might have to use some kind of magical trick. He hadn't yet tried to use the wand he purchased with his father from diagon alley. Rafael was always afraid he would never get the letter from Hogwarts but there he was, ready to get sorted.

Rafael thought of how nice it would be after the ceremony, meeting new people and making new friends, in an attempt to soothe his nerves, but it did nothing to decrease the butterfly population currently using his stomach as a gymnasium. The logical part of his mind knew there was nothing to be afraid of, that there was absolutely no reason to be nervous. All he had to do was walk up to the hat, place it on his head and then it would do the rest, and yet a small portion of his brain continued to shout: "You don't belong in this world! You are a muggle like your mother! Go back where you came from."

As if that weren't enough Rafael could feel hundreds of students staring at him as he walked down the aisle that seemed twice as long as it had a minute before. He forced himself to ignore the eyes and focused on the hat. He was determined to make his way calmly to the Sorting Hat, but the stool still seemed so very far away. He began to walk a little faster, then faster still, before he knew it he was practically running. Eagerly he slammed the hat on his head as it fell past his eyes he let out a sigh of relief for he could no longer see the other students watching him expectantly. He waited to hear the voice of the battered hat again not really having any preference about a specific house. He was just really happy to be at Hogwarts in the first place.

"I think you'll find that you belong here just fine. And the place in this castle where you'll find belonging the easiest is undoubtedly HUFFLEPUFF!"

Beatrice is amazed by the bright candles and the many kids. Her father told her that she had read a book about Hogwarts New Zealand a few weeks ago, but she didn't remember. Her short term memory loss left her annoyed that she didn't seem to remember anything... Hopefully HNZ would finally change that. After all, it actually can go away. The headmistress began the sorting with a speech, and then it was on to the people with A as the first letter getting sorted. They dragged on through the Bs, the Cs, and finally to S. "Starr, Beatrice!" She heard. She was dazed in surprise for a moment, but her feet moved her towards the hat. She sat down in a wooden stool, ready to find out her house.

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Perseas was amongst the many first years that were gaping around. Although he had browse through the pages of Hogwarts: A History and his older brother Minoas had referred to the magnificent Great Hall, it was a whole different thing to see it on your own. His grey eyes were shifting from left to right as the hall was truly amazing. There was a total of five tables, the four longer ones, side by side in the hall, were for the students, one for each house, whilst a fifth smaller one stood near the far wall. Perseas could see the professors sitting there and he curiously wondered who were going to teach him on the following days.

Floating above the tables were thousands of candles, nothing holding them up but magic as far as he could tell. He glanced upward, for no reason other than to satisfy his curiosity as to what the ceiling would look like. Somehow he had imagined gracefully sloping arches, or maybe a steeple or something, but what he saw truly amazed him. The supporting arches were visible for a certain amount, but after that... it was like there was no ceiling at all. "Look! It is bewitched to look like the sky above!" he nudged his twin brother next to him. He wondered if they could do something similar with the ceiling of their own room back at home but like always, his twin brother had to agree as well, something that rarely happened.

Perseas looked down after a few more moments of ceiling-gazing as someone silently placed a four-legged stool in front of the line of first years. On top of the stool they placed a pointed wizard's hat. Minoas was right. The hat that was going to determine which house they were going to represent was indeed patched and frayed. The appearance didn't really matter when it was able to see where someone could potentially do great. He had no idea what other first years thought they were going to do with this hat but he and his twin brother were already informed they were just going to wear it. Perseas would have preferred something more excited like some sort of magic trick but it wouldn't be fair for muggle-borns and they should all have the same treatment.

He suddenly noticed that everyone in the hall was staring intently at the hat, he stared at it too, fully expecting that Minoas was wrong and something amazing was going to happen. And, sure enough to his eleven year old mind, something amazing did happened. The hat burst into song. His older brother hadn't referred before to the hat's unique ability to sing. When it was done, the entire hall burst into applause, many of the first years looking relieved, if still slightly green, as the hat bowed to the five tables then became still again. The Headmistress seized the opportunity to welcome the first years and welcome back the older students.

Perseas hadn't expected that their Headmistress would be so nice and friendly. He also knew she was going to teach them transfiguration, a subject he really anticipated for. She mentioned the forbidden forest and the punishment they were going to receive those who were planning to visit it. Perseas didn't know how inhibitory was this reference for the rest fellow first years but for him it was like an invitation to visit that place. He couldn't wait to see and find out why the forest was forbidden. He knew there were centaurs. His older brother had befriended some and sure he wanted to meet them as well. Perseas was generally well-informed about most secrets of this castle and its grounds. He was simply looking forward to start exploring and find most of the secret passages and hidden areas that Minoas had discovered before.

Names were called alphabetically for the first years to come forwards and sit on the stool. Then the hat was placed on their heads to decide their houses. Because of his surname, Perseas had enough time to see most of the other first years get through this process. He couldn't help but notice that sometimes the hat was really quick with its decision and some others' it was waffling indecisively on the top of the heads' of some students. He didn't really care in which house he was going to be placed. In his eyes, it was the wizards and witches that were making the house not the opposite. He was going to represent worthily his house regardless its color or its mascot. Gradually the majority of the students had been sorted, and Perseas along with his brother Theseas were of the few remained. Then, finally the name he had been waiting for was called forward.

"Stratis, Perseas."

Perseas left his twin brother for a while and stepped forwards. The silence coming from the house's tables was so awkward but he was ready for that hat to decide his house. He sat on the stool and had a last glimpse of the four tables and the small group of first years remaining in front of him before the brim of the hat concealed everything from his sight. Perseas wanted this to be quick. The stool wasn't particularly comfortable and he wanted to start exploring right after this ceremony. He had heard about a peculiar room that was changing depending on your desire. He wanted to be the first one to find it among the first years.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Andrea was nervous, a rare thing for her, as she pressed her palms flat together and twined her fingers, a habit she'd picked up from her mother when the woman was alive. She was about the center of the crowd of unsorted students and she swallowed slightly as the large, ornate doors that led into the Great Hall swung open and a professor motioned for them to head inside. Her feet moved with no orders needed from her brain, to prevent herself from being trampled. She kept having doubts about her acceptance and admittance here, though of course her face betrayed nothing; she'd become a master of her emotions several years ago. She could only hope her father had managed to stay sober long enough to make it home or she'd be getting a Howler from the owner the next day. When the line of students in front of her stopped, she did as well, nearly colliding with a shorter boy immediately in front of her.

She shook her head, red and brown strands falling over dark golden eyes as she, like every other person in the Hall, fixed her eyes upon a ratty old hat that sat on a stool: the revered Sorting Hat. Andrea had heard about this ever since they'd come to Europe; from local children, at the pub and even from her mother as she came home from work. Swallowing again, her eyes moved to the professor who'd ushered them in who was now unrolling a long sheet of parchment. 'And here we go.' She thought to herself.

"FOCOSO, ANDREA." Finally, her name was called and her heart stuttered in her chest as she silently stepped forward, the students parting for her automatically. She nodded cordially at the teacher and settled herself onto the stool before the hat was plopped onto her head and silence reigned.

"SLYTHERIN!"

Adelaide Johnson would never admit it, but she was nervous. She watched as the first new student was called up to be sorted and joined Hufflepuff house. She watched in rapt fascination as more students were sorted, trying to quench her nerves. It felt like there were butterflies in her stomach. What if the Sorting Hat told her that it was a mistake, that she wasn't supposed to be here? She tried to reason with herself, telling herself there was no way that could be possible. She'd been doing accidental magic for ages. But for once, her logical reasoning didn't help her, but rather made her more nervous.
"Johnson, Adelaide!" Adelaide feigned a smile and made her way to the stool and sat. The last thing she saw before the Hat slipped over her eyes was a sea of faces staring at her, waiting for the Sorting Hat's decision.
She could only hope it would be over quickly.

"RAVENCLAW!"

Armandas couldn't believe his eyes. The day was finally here where he would be sorted into his house, and begin his journey at Hogwarts. It had only been a short amount of time since he had found out that Hogwarts actually existed. It had been a pretty huge surprise when he had been told about all of the wizarding world. But he hadn't been told much, and his parents had expected him to come home every holidays and tell them things that he had learnt about the wizarding world. He knew that they just wanted the best for him, and it would only reinforce his knowledge if he was to repeat everything that he had learnt back to them. He was looking forward to that much.

He wondered what would happen at the school to him within his first week. Would he make a lot of friends? Would he make some enemies? Would he meeting nobody at all, and be an outcast? He didn't know. He couldn't be sure, but he knew for sure that he would do whatever he had to do to make sure that he was one of the best people at the school in his year. He would have a lot of people to contend with, but he was sure that he would be able to do it if he put in the effort that needed to be done. But as he walked through the Great Hall and stopped with the rest of the school, he couldn't help but notice that everyone else was just as curious as he was. Some of them looked as though they would rather be somewhere else. But the next thing he heard made him certain he was in the right place.

"Fireblaze, Armandas."

As he approached the Sorting Hat, so many things were going through his head. Where would he be sorted? Would it be a good house? Would he be accepted openly? Would he be shunned for not being right for the house? But as the hat fell over his eyes, he couldn't help but think that if something was wrong, it wasn't him being here. He felt like he belong in this place already.

"You'll find plenty of acceptance in HUFFLEPUFF!"

Theta Smith was terrified. Utterly, completely terrified. She found it hard to comprehend that she was about to be sorted into a school of magic. Only a short time ago, she'd thought magic was nothing more than a myth! Yet here she was. She stood in the hall, so nervous that she'd barely noticed her surroundings. Her nervousness only grew as more an names were read out. Sometimes, she wished her name started with something a bit earlier in the alphabet than S...like B or D. Then her name "Smith, Theta" was called and she started the walk towards the hat.

Every step was agonizing. Time seemed to drag out into an eternity and she swore she could feel the weight of numerous eyes upon her. Silently, she willed herself not to trip. Finally, she reached the front of the hall. Forcing herself to take a deep breath, she sat down on the provided stool, every muscle tense. She closed her eyes, unable to make herself face the sea of students.

Then the hat was placed on her head and all she could think was, 'Let this be over,' as she forced herself to stay still

A little nervous Ella walked up to the great hall. She had to get sorted there. She looked around the hall as she waited for her turn. When her name was called out she walked towards the hat and sat down on the stool there. Soon the hat was placed ion her head. She had wished she might end up in the same as her mother and father who were in Gryffindor but if her house was different she would be happy. She looked ahead at the tables there waiting for the hat to say the words that she was waiting for.

"I hope you're not too disappointed, but you're not a Gryffindor. You really belong in HUFFLEPUFF!"

I swagger up to the sorting hat, Pick it up and take my seat on the stool. I give the crowd a cold stare as they watch on anxiously waiting to see where I was to be placed. The sorting hat delves into the very corners of my brain revealing that I am much more dark and twisted than my attractive exterior portrays. It tells of my deviousness and disliking of muggles. The Sorting hat takes little time to make it's decision. "You belong in........"

You have a lot to learn. Perhaps you'll do best to learn it in GRYFFINDOR!"

Haley stood in the Great Hall, looking around excitedly. She caught sight of her best friend, Alexa, waving at her from the Ravenclaw table, having already been Sorted. She shivered in anticipation. Looking back at Alexa, she shook her head quietly to herself. She was surprised that Alexa had gotten into Ravenclaw. It wasn't that Alexa wasn't smart; but she took more time to process things. Still, it was clear her desire to learn has landed her a place among the intelligent ravens. Haley herself was hoping to get Sorted into Slytherin, but she would be happy with Ravenclaw, too. But imagine if she got Sorted into Hufflepuff! Or worse, Gryffindor! She shuddered, and then straightened as the lady calling the names announced, "Roane, Haley!" She stepped forward, put on the Hat, and waited, all the while thinking, 'Slytherin or Ravenclaw!'

"Not Gryffindor, hmm? But you'd do so well there! Perhaps even the best. Well, if you're quite sure, then I suppose I can place you in RAVENCLAW!"

Aislinn couldn't believe, she was actually attending this school. It was like some kinda twisted dream, one that you never want to wake up too. How on earth did she get here? So many questions running through her mind, and she couldn't pick one she really wanted answer. After all this time, believing she was rejected by the world, Hogwarts decided to be the only place to accept. Well besides her great aunt that is, Aunt Marie loved her and took care her as if she were her real mother. Something that her biological mother should have been doing herself, but after so many years under the care of a notorious family, Aislinn was grateful to be away from them once and for all. Azkaban was not enough justice for what they've caused, they were never mean to her, it was the muggels that they hated. Not her, but still. She was free, for now. Some of her future peers looked onward once her name was called, she could feel herself be shaken up. They know, they all know who she is. The last name said it all, but without much of a glance in their direction the small eleven years old moved onward to take her place in front of them.

This is what it must feel like to be crown a queen or a princess, Aislinn though. The comparison was an odd one, but it made her feel a ting important. Just a ting, the rest of the walk there she was nervous as heck. Sweat beading down her side, the smell of the school made her stomach flipped. She closed her eyes for one second, and coaches herself to keep going. Eventually she found herself seated on the stool; her eyes closed tight. Breathe Aislinn, breathe. It will all be over soon, she'd be in a house and she could be left alone. As long as she kept out of their radar, Aislinn thought she'd be safe. No one would care about her families' name if she seemed normal to them.

Theseas gasped at the splendor of the Great Hall. It was lit by thousands and thousands of candles that were floating in midair over four long tables, where the rest of the students were sitting. These tables were laid with golden plates and goblets. At the top of the hall was another long table where the teachers were sitting. The line of first years was led up there so they came to a halt facing the other students. Hundreds of faces stared up at them with silvery ghosts dotted in between. To avoid all the staring eyes, Theseas looked upward as prompted by his twin brother next to him. He saw the velvety black ceiling dotted with stars and wonder how much magic was required for this wonder above their heads.

Someone silently placed a four-legged stool in front of the first years. On top of the stool it was placed a pointed wizard's hat that was patched, frayed, and extremely dirty. Theseas smiled when he remembered his older brother telling them about this hat. The sorting was brief and simple. This hat was going to decide which house should they represent. As he stared at the hat, it twitched, then a rip near the brim opened wide like a mouth and the hat began to sing. When it was over the whole hall burst into applause as the hat bowed to each table and then became still again. Theseas was growing more nervous by the moment. The hat seemed to be asking rather a lot. He didn't feel brave, or quick-witted, or any of it that included in its song at the moment. If only the hat mentioned a house for people who felt a bit queasy, that would have been the one for him.

As students were called forward to sit on the stool and wear the hat, Theseas had to wait patiently for his own moment. Then his twin brother's name was called and Theseas watched walking over to the stool and having a seat. It wasn't long until the hat placed him in Gryffindor. Theseas frowned slightly. He wanted to become a Gryffindor but he didn't want to be in the same house with his twin brother. Up until know he was unavoidably compared with him. He just wanted to choose his own path without being intervened by his brother.

Stratis, Theseas

His name was heard right after his brothers. Theseas gulped as dread was reflected in his eyes. He slowly made it to the stool as he watched his brother settling down at Gryffindor's table. Then the hat was placed on his light brown hair and he felt like someone was invading his thoughts.
Please, don't put me in the same house with my brother, he thought and closed his eyes, hopeful about the rumour of the hat being able to read people's mind.

"You can stand out from your brother without having to be in a different house. Blaze your own trail! You are still, however, a GRYFFINDOR!"

Ally allowed herself to be pushed along with the other first years as her attention was diverted by the magnificent Great Hall. Her eyes widened as she took in the incredible ceiling which reflected the nights sky outside. The floating candles all around the hall and the impressive tables made her heart beat fast. Her eyes swept across the four house tables and she wondered how she would ever learn the names of her house mates. Finally, they came to a stop and Ally caught the eye of a couple of other first years, giving them a nervous smile before she turned her attention back to the Professor. If it was possible, her heart began to beat even faster as the Professor told them what was going to happen. Ally was both terrified and ridiculously excited at the same time as the names of her fellow first years slowly began to be read out. She watched as the Sorting Hat was placed on their heads and the smiles of relief and happiness as they discovered to which house they belonged.
Finally, her name was read and with shaking hands, pounding heart and a nervous smile, she began to make her way up to the stool to be sorted.

The doors of the great hall opened, hundreds of people looked in their direction. "Ooooooooh- aaaaah-" said other first years when they entered the great hall. Alan looked around, he couldn't believe how big the hall was. He and the frist years walked to the front of the great hall and waited there. One by one their names was called, and they had to come forward.

"Vale, Amy" called a person next to a three-legged stool with an old hat on it. Alan knew he would be called next. - "Hufflepuff" shouted the head. Alan looked around him, he was the last one standing.

"Witts, Alan" called the person next to the three legged stool. Alan kept his head straight and walked to the stool. He sat down on the stool, and the person next to him put the old hat on his head. An evil smile appeared on his face

Paige walked into the Great Hall with a great composure. She quickly looked around the Great Hall and looked up to the ceiling which was coverd with a large amount of flying candles. A boy next to her told her that the Great Halls ceiling was enchanted to look like the sky above. ''Cool'' Paige thought the other first years were also looking everywhere. She looked slowly to the boy and looked back to the front of the Hall where a large table was with all the Hogwarts staff seated behind. In the middle stood a single three-legged stool. ''That is where we get seated and get sorted into a house'' The boy explained, it was getting annoying. Paige exhaled deeply and looked with a neutral look to the boy. ''I hope that I am not ending in the same House as that'' Paige quickly thought, it would ruin her stay at Hogwarts. Paige already knew they would be sorted on names and since her last name began with a R. she knew she had to wait awhile. After ten names Paige's attention swifted to something else, the Slytherin table. Her sister had told her the colours of Slytherin are green and silver. Something had caught her eye, they all looked like they couldn't care less. The annoying boy was sorted in Ravenclaw. ''Obviously'' She mumbled to no one in particular. ''Rivers, Paige'' Paige focused again on the sorting and walked gracefully to the front of the Hall. She began to take place on the three-legged stool with a look of sheer determination in her eyes. The sorting hat shoved over her face and she could only look at the darkness, the inside of the hat. She thought of everything she had seen the minutes before. The Slytherin table, the annoying boy and the enchanted ceiling. She felt that the hat was thinking, it was weird, the thing was somewhat alive.

"'Obviously,' hmm? So you think you can do the job of a hat enchanted by one of the greatest Wizards of history? A hat that has more magic in its stuffing than you'll ever see in your life? Well, I can assure you that that 'annoying' Ravenclaw boy was not obvious. He was really rather complex. You, however, are quite transparent at the moment. You'll change with time. Look back on these days as foolish, see the value of the other houses and their strengths - just like the founder of your house did - but you'll still belong with so many others who must come to know these truths as they strive to achieve their goals. SLYTHERIN!"
