Sorting Ceremony (Y13)

As the huge wooden doors opened, Natalie couldn't believe her eyes. She blinked quickly a few times, before her hands automatically went up to fix her hair, patting it down in all the right places. After straightening her robes as well, Natalie followed the rest of the first years into the Great Hall, to the thunderous applause of the older students.

Natalie flashed her best Hollywood smile, pretending in her head that the applause were only for her. That would, in itself, help to erase any butterflies that threatened to invade her stomach. Natalie Jane Sinclair did NOT get nervous, no stinkin' way.

Natalie's mind wandered as students began to be sorted. No matter how deep in thought, however, she managed to straighten stray hairs and her robe each time it needed it, maintaining an air of graceful confidence. That was Natalie, graceful and confident.

"Sinclair, Natalie Jane"

Finally, she heard her name called. Pushing away those butterflies once again, Natalie walked up to the hat and put in confidently on her head. She smiled still, waiting, but certainly not patiently.

"Definitely a GRYFFINDOR!"

This was the most amazing day in this little girl's life! Born on September the ninth, she was one of the oldest to walk these Great Halls, but did she care? No! She stood with her older identical twin, almost bouncing up and down in excitement. Only months ago did she discover that she was a witch, having blow up a vase by accident. Proserpina just hoped that it would never happen again because that not only scared her father half to death though he was aware of the magical world because the magical blood ran through their mother. Proserpina glanced over at her twin, knowing that she would be called first and sorted. Oh this day, she felt like her stomach was flapping away like someone opened a jar of butterflies open in her abdomen. She could just fly away at any moment, and well, not many here would find that odd at all. Biting her lip, she thought that sorting just lasted too long.

Half-blood or not, she needed to be with her classmates, and though she was impatient, she knew so much better than to act like that. Proserpina let out another sigh, and she turned to her twin and smiled, showing all of her white teeth because she was just too excited to keep it in. She was a hyper little witch, and this meant that she could have a wand and everything. And see how the wizarding world functioned. She sort of missed the ocean though, the waves hitting the boat while traveling, or even the food service that one received in airplanes. How many of this students did not know about the muggle things that her and her sister were so acquainted with? Proserpina smiled once more, as the Deputy Headmistress was getting down closer and closer to the 'S' names. Oh she could feel the excitement running through every limb, even her toes.

"Skalla, Proserpina!" Oh no, she missed her sister getting sorted! She felt so bad too. Strolling up through the crowd of first years, Proserpina approached the stool with uncertainty. Wow, she was going to be sorted with a talking hat, how amazing! Proserpina sat down on the stool and felt the hat upon her head. 'Okay, so I am knew to this, can you read my mind and stuff? And awesome song you got there! Is it the same every month? Oh, um, guess I should let you do your job then huh?' thought Proserpina with a small laugh. Proserpina closed her eyes and she prayed that she was in the right house, which she held no doubts to the hat. But the hat may know more than she ever would. So, Proserpina could just sit there and wait for the judgment while all eyes were on her, and boy was she loving the attention.

"I don't get to sing for the school every month. But don't worry about me. Go join HUFFLEPUFF!"

Philippa was excited for today. She had been marking the days off on her calender one by one in great anticipation of what today will hold for her. Sorting sounded so exciting because once Philippa and her twin were sorted she figured it would mean that they were official witches. Sure they had been witches all their lives but it was all coming together now. It was scary but exciting when one thought about it, for the next seven years this would be her life. If she lasted seven years that was. Her father was a muggle and understood so little about magic that it scared him. Even if she tried to act like it didn't Philippa could see it in his eyes that he was scared or at least unsure of the two girls. Not that he could be blamed. This magic thing was new to them. Philippa knew her mother had left when she was very little and she was probably the only key that she had to knowing about the magical world. The woman left and took her secrets with her. So Philippa and her sister grew up like muggles. The entire family was supportive of them though. Their father, step-mother, even Lucas if he was alive. He would have supported them too. Lucas would have thought this was so cool. He have even been envious that the two girls got to go to school and learn magic and he didn't. 'I wish you were here big brother. Philippa thought biting her lip and following the other unsorted students into the Great Hall. From the very moment Philippa entered this school she realized that her life was going to be different here. Her father's money, her gift at sports, and her ability to laugh at anything might not matter here anymore. Magic made everything different and this was now one big adventure. Good thing Philippa liked adventures and new things. Having her twin here would make it that much easier for her. The group of future students stopped in front of a stool and what looked to be a wizard's hat. An old one at that. Then one by one others were called up to be sorted into their houses. Philippa suddenly feared being separated from her sister.

"Phillipa Skalla"

Philippa looked around and grinned then excused herself through the crowd. She approached the stool and gave the Headmistress lady an amused grin and sat down. The wood creaking a little and the room completely silent. All eyes were on her as they tried to anticipate where she would be placed. 'So Mr. Hat, do your thing!' The hat was really cool. He seemed like he knew what he was doing and he was pretty funny with some of the things he said. Philippa trusted the hat to put here where she belonged. Hopefully it was with her twin.

"Not very bright, I see. Not a Ravenclaw at all. Right, then...Gryffindor!"

Mimosa was pretty excited to have been accepted at hogwarts. Even though when she was
looking at the letter, and jumping in excitement, her father was looking at her in a very strict
manner. At times, Mimosa felt like she was born in the wrong family. She was the type of
person that liked to enjoy life and to keep everything energetic, but some of her family members
were totally the opposite. They were, at times were serious people, and for Mimosa to contain
her energetic self inside was very hard. Bumping into a student ahead of her, Mimosa gave a
sharp smile, and apologized. She was pretty eager to get sorted into a house today at Hogwarts.
Though she wondered which house she was going to get sorted into. She had a feeling that she
for sure would not be getting sorted into Slytherin because she was not the evil type of student,
but there were other three houses, so she was not exactly sure which house she was going to be
sorted into. As she watched students come and go down the great hall from her table, her name
had just been called. Mimosa was a bit nervous when she got off the table and started to walk
towards the sorting hat. Seeing the smiling faces of the professor's that were sitting at the table,
it made her feel bit less nervous because she could feel the love around her from her professors.
Sitting there with the sorting hat on her, she closed her eyes and hoped for the best for herself.

"You seem the cut-and-dry RAVENCLAW!"

Kolt was rather a bit eager to get started at hogwarts. Being homeschooled by professionally hired
individuals was something that he did not enjoy the most. Granted that he did have some freedom
around the house and his own schedule and what not, but he never really got to meet many people.
He would meet his homeschooling teachers, his mother and a few neighborhood kids. Wanting to
attend hogwarts and having to convince his mother to let him come to Hogwarts was a big task for
him, but he knew that he would be able to pull it off. While keeping his head up, and his hopes up
to going to hogwarts, he finally got an acceptance letter from hogwarts, Kolt was filled with new
life. He had a small smile on his face, and started to get lots of ideas in his mind as to what he was
going to do at hogwarts, his goals, and what not. While thinking about all of this, Kolt was also
listening to the students that were sitting around him. Some students he didn't care much for, but
very few other's he was paying attention to them and actually responding and having a conversation.
This was something that Kolt was new to, having a conversation with people other than people that
usually came to his house. Surprisingly enough, he had a smile on his face as he was talking to other
students, and watching other students get sorted, It wasn't long before his name was called, and
hearing some students he was talking to moments ago cheer him on, he walked with confidence to
the front of great hall, just waiting to be sorted into a house. He was not nervous and was filled with joy.

"SLYTHERIN!"

The huge hall loomed above her, the seemingly endless ceiling reflecting a starry night sky. Ness Boone wanted to count the stars, one shining point by point, but the crowd of Hogwarts first years was streaming like a shapeless mass toward the front of the room; she couldn't quite catch the chance to count but she snapped a shot of the sky with her mind, to cherish it slowly later on. But for now, Ness followed the rest of the students toward the long wooden table stationed at the head of the Great Hall. She shuffled slowly until a shorter peer ran into her and barked at her to move faster. Ness simply looked down at him and continued moving at her slow pace, with that signature swinging, casual gait of hers.

Soon, all attention was directed front and center, where a rather worn and dirty hat was sitting on a chair, singing. Yes, singing. A curious smile played over Ness's thin lips as she gazed at it. She could've sworn she was one the loudest applauders when the song had ended. The sorting began shortly after, and the young girl watched as her classmates-to-be stepped forward one by one, some nervous, some excited, and some just looking as if they had better things to do.

"Boone, Ness."

At the sound of her name, Ness stepped toward the stool with the same smile still on her face, the edges of her lips slightly curved up. She sat down, making herself comfortable before setting the hat on her head. Now, what would it tell her? The names of the houses meant nothing to her; the girl hadn't been bothered to look them up, but she could get a general sense now by scanning the four tables of the hall quickly. Satisfied, Ness sat back in her chair, smiling wistfully as she thought, "Hello Mister Sorting Hat." Then she waited for the hat to speak to her.

"I think you'll find your time here most enjoyable in HUFFLEPUFF!"

The group of first years gather in the great hall. Being one of the tallest students, Charmaine could see perfectly what was going on in front of her. She glanced to her side trying to find her sister but she couldn't find her. A frown appeared in her face as she looked around finding her sister no where in her sight. The young girl shook her head and looked toward the Professors that were sitting on their seats. Her heart pounded faster as she started to take a deep breath. Surprisingly, her name was called, her eyes were open widely as she spotted a stool. The young girl walk toward it and sat on it as she felt the sorting hat being placed on her head. `Thank you sir` She said softly, thanking the sorting hat, making sure that no one could hear it except the hat and her. Well it was the hat's dity to sort duty but again Charmaine felt bad if she didn't thank others before they did something nice to her.

"You strike me as a RAVENCLAW!"

Kona Mason walked with the other students up to the front. Hogwarts was beautiful. It was full of magic and learning. All she could wait for was to visit the library and see the mass collection of books. She bowed her head and waited for her name to be called. She listened for her name.

"Mason, Kona"

She tucked her straight blonde hair behind her hear and surveyed the room with her blue eyes. She placed the sorting hat on her head and sat on the stool. Please don't put me in Slytherin. She thought over and over in her head.

"No, definitely not a Slytherin. RAVENCLAW!"

Mylie is so excited she can barely sit still. She listens for her name, this one and that being already called she knew hers was close.... THEN... BAM.

FLYNT, MYLIE?

She nearly jumped out of her skin!! She pratically runs up to the hat jumps onto the stool with a UMPH! The Sorting Hat is placed on her head. She tries to clear her mind. But all she thinks about is her brother Charles being in Ravenclaw and she wantes to do everything he does. She is praying she is in Ravenclaw. Her brother's footsteps are just in site.

"You really should just try to be yourself... here, I'll get you started: HUFFLEPUFF!"

Sam is very excited to be in Hogwarts so when she entered the Great Hall she was filled with awe and excitement to finally be in a place where she was dreaming her whole life to be in. Sam is a book and a sporty person so being in a place where there are lots of books and lots of sports (school and Quidditch, specifically) is on her list to being a sucessful person. Even though being far away from your family and friends is difficult but that won't stop Sam from doing what she loves to do and that is studying (and playing sports and planting lots of trees). Sam also loves mother nature so when she found out that she got accepted in Hogwarts she didn't think twice because she loves everything about Herbology, she just stayed calm (if you call shrieking and shouting Oh My God a hundred times calm). One of the reasons why Sam really wants to be and to finish school is to make her parents proud (and to think of reasons and plans for her parents to get back together). Later on, she walked up into the group of first year students in front of her for the sorting is gonna start in a few minutes. Even though Sam is so determine about this whole school thing, you can't blame her if she isn't listening to what the professor says. The long tables, the professors, the students....All she ever wanted. Nothing is going to stop Sam from accomplishing her dream now. Later on, while Sam was busy daydreaming a girl poked her in the arm and told her "Stop daydreaming and listen to the professor". "Sorry" Sam replied. True, Sam is very excited about this school thing but you also can't blame her if she gets lost. The professor said a few words then the sorting started. One by one the professor started calling out names and the students were being sorted into their appropriate houses. A few minutes later, Sam noticed that her palms were sweating, "This is odd". Sam said. While Sam was busy thinking why her palms were sweating, the professor finally called her name. "Madison, Samantha?" the professor called. It took about a minute or two for Sam to realize that it was her name the professor was calling so she quickly walked into the stool in front of her and sat down. Once she was comfortably seated, the professor put the hat into her blonde head. "I know you can read my thoughts and everything so I wont be surprised if you put me in Ravenclaw or in Gryffindor" Sam said. Then she closed her eyes and waited for the hat's response.

"No surprises, then. RAVENCLAW!"

The Great Hall was full of professors and students and there was a great chatter among them. This excited Jeannette even more as she tailed along behind the students in front of her whom were anxiously waiting to be sorted by the Hat. She stared up at the beautifully lit ceiling that reminded her of Hanukkah and prayed to herself that she would be placed in the house she felt she most belonged to. Then she thought about what her father said before she got on the train, "It doesn't matter what house you will be put into. You've gotten this far to be accepted into Hogwarts." As each student was called into their houses by the Hat, Jeannette clapped at each and everyone of them, until her name was announced. Jeannette slightly tripped along the way towards the stool and calmly sat down, smiling as she lightly placed the Hat atop her head.

Evangeline took a deep breath as she walked down the middle aisle to the sorting hat. A mix of emotions swirled through her stomach, and she paled. What if I'm in Slytherin? Ohhhhh, anything but Slytherin! I'm not devious....or sly....am I? Evangeline thopught for a while, and the quiet girl noticed it was almost her time. Anxiety and excitement shook through her. Evan looked up at the hat when the Professor called her name. She walked up the steps and sat on the little stool, her big robes covering her body. The musky, odd smelling hat went over her eyes. She pushed it up a bit so she could see the many pairs of multi-coloured eyes staring at her, head to toe, cheek to cheel, every detail of the girl.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Samuel Dillion Craft was one of the first to enter the Great Hall for the very first time. Amongst the other group of soon-to-be sorted first years, Samuel Craft felt satisfied that his last name happened to be at the top of the list. Therefore, he would not need to wait as long for his name to be called and the Sorting Hat to be placed on top of his head. Impatiently tapping his foot on the cobblestone floor, the first year had his arms crossed against his chest as a couple other students of his class had their chance for the Sorting Hat to place them in one of the four houses. However, after what seemed like ages, Samuel's name had been called and it was now his turn to be sorted into a house. Hopefully it was a good one.

"Undoubtedly one for GRYFFINDOR!"

"Lets put your mind to work in RAVENCLAW!"

There Karol sat surrounded by other people just like him. All of them waiting to be sorted. It happened once every year and you'd think it would be no different from muggle schools and graduating. Karol was trying hard to hide the fear dwelling on the inside. As each name was called out it gave him somewhat of a relief but also brought the fear back of being called out himself. "This will have to be done no matter what. The sooner I'm called the better." I guess it was to spite Karol because after making that self statement he was called up!

"Lovell, Karol!"

"Well here goes nothing I guess." Karol was practically running towards the seat without realizing it. This only made him look and feel stupid. "Let's hope that this goes by really smooth and fast." he hoped as the hat was about to be placed on his head.

"Nothing? I hope not. I think houses have a lot of meaning here... You're a HUFFLEPUFF!"

James arrived at Hogwarts by train with a pleased face upon him. He got all of his belongings, went where he was supposed to go, and waited to be further instructed. James of course was an impatient guy, and after waiting over 30 minutes to be told where he was supposed to go got impatient and decided to roam on his own. Some of the other unsorted students were asking where he was going, and he said it was none of their business. After roaming Hogwarts for 20 minutes by himself, he realized this place was going to be interesting and somewhat amusing to himself. James then got caught roaming around by himself by a professor, and then that professor escorted him back to the unsorted group with questions of what he was doing alone. James then responded that it was his business what he was doing and not hers, which caused that professor to completely and automatically keep an eye out for him from now on. The professor then escorted him back to the group of unsorted students, and James then thought to himself that the professor would be his bad teacher for the rest of this year. James did not care however, because he was just worried about getting sorted so that he could get this year going. James wanted to be the best of the best and be up on top, and he then just thought to himself all of the things that he was taught by his parents. The professor then finally reached the group of unsorted students, and led the group of unsorted students into the Great Hall. James then started to sneer, because he knew that he was going to continue his parents history at Hogwarts. James then looked around, and saw how vast the size of the Great Hall was. He didn't care about the size, but still he was adoring inside how the school looked. Students that were sitting in the chairs staring at the unsorted students started to stare at James, and James gave them an evil snare because he hated when people just started at him like that. James then continued to wait for his turn for the sorting hat to call his name, and finally after an impatient hour of waiting for his name to be called he finally heard from the sorting hat call it out. "Setherland, James" stated the sorting hat. James then walked down the Great Hall twards the three legged stool that stood near the front of it. While walking to the stool James saw people staring at him, which he hated, and then gave them a stare like he gave the people that stared at him when he was in the group of unsorted students. Finally when James got to the stool he stated to himself, "I'm almost there. Finally I get to get this over with so that I can get this year started. I completely hate this part because it is truly boring, but I have to go through with it anyways. Welp I'm tired of waiting, so might as well sit down so that this can get over with." James then finally sat down after thinking to himself, and awaited the sorting hat's decision in which he knew what he was going to get.

"You want Slytherin like your parents... but you're not very cunning at all. Hmm. No matter, I guess. Somebody will take you under their wing. SLYTHERIN!"

Sebastian Hall entered the great hall with a sly look on his face. He smiled at the girls sitting on the benches and winked at them. He grinned as the Gryffindor table. Sebastian had always admired the lions. They were his idol. He knew he was towards the beginning of the list because his last name was Hall.

He walked onto the stage and looked around. There were quite a bit of cute girls at this school but he doubted that any would be interested in him, but then again he was pretty hot. Sebastian glanced at the teacher as she called out his name.

"Sebastian Hall." The teacher said.

Sebastian walked over to the stool and placed the hat on his head. It was a dusty old hat, but it was an antique of the house he was proud of. He began to wonder if the hat made him look hot or not. A little concerned, he hoped he did not get placed in Slytherin, for fear of all of his family's disapproval. Sebastian sat still and waited for the Hat's reply.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

Luna Moreau's heart pounded in her chest, in her ears, ever so loud. She was almost too distracted to walk straight. But she swallowed the rising anticipation, not wanting to humiliate herself in front of her classmates. Her name had been called, and so it was her turn, now. She approached the hat, almost gingerly setting it on her had waiting.

"You seem to me to be a HUFFLEPUFF!"

Celestia Moreau pushed her bangs out of her blue-grey eyes in one, smooth motion, scanning her surroundings with interest. It was claustrophobic, the Great Hall was packed with all of her future classmates, and immediately surrounding her were the clumps of anticipation-filled first years, like herself, awaiting the Sorting Hat.

Celestia wasn't nervous, no, she would leave that to her sister, Luna, who was probably nervous enough for both of them. For now, she was only focused on being focused, and then on the old professor's voice when they started calling out names.

A hush fell over the room. Names were called, and Celestia watched dozens of scared kids walk up to the hat so that their fates could be decided. Not long after, it was her own name that was called, echoing in the vast room. Celestia made her way past the others, confidence in her stride. She picked up the strange hat, then placed it on her head, awaiting decision.

"As you wish. GRYFFINDOR!"

James Smith walked down the center of the aisle. He looked at the pathetic faces of those who thought they were better then him. James smirked at a couple of girls he knew to be pureblood. That was the best kind. Pureblood, the only kind to be. He still had to test his pureblood(pending). James waited for the silly teacher to call out his name and he walked up to the stool.

"Smith, James."

He walked up there and looked at the dusty ole hat. James grabbed it and put it on his head. This was absolutely ridiculous to him and he thought it was stupid. He hated old things and had no interest for anything belonging to Gryffindors. "Get this over with please." James thought in his head very rudely.

"Slytherin."

Calypso Walked With the Other Kids into the Great Hall Were she saw All the students and Professors But her eyes landed on one thing ... The sorting hat , She Stared at the Thing , curious Of which house It would put her in . She Kept Looking around and every so often she would look up to see a new student Standing up from the Stool . Time passed Quickly and then she heard .

" Delacour , Calypso "

She Walked Without Hesitation to the Old Hat and sat down ,The Talking hat was placed on her Head and she Didn't Know what the sorting hat was actually seeing was he looking in her mind ? She didn't know , so she just Waited till she found out her House .

"A perfect fit for HUFFLEPUFF!"

As Zamora walked to the great hall with the other unsorted students she saw the beautiful ceiling and the house tables.Ay the end of the Great Hall she saw the professors siting in front of her, that's when she felt more nervous. She waited for her name to be called with the other unsorted students. Finally, her name was called " Black,Zamora"the professor said. Then, she went to the wooden stool beside the professor and sat down. When the professor was about to put the sorting hat at the top of Zamora's head she felt nervous but a little bit of excitement. When the sorting was at the top of Zamora.

"Ravenclaw."

Annie wasn't exactly one hundred per cent sure that she was actually a witch, or if it was just a huge cruel joke invented by her sister. Then again, she doubted that anyone in her family would be capable of setting up something as big as this, so it probably had to be real. Annie was surprisingly okay with the idea of a magical boarding school, strange for a girl who despised change of any sort. Magic was an interesting idea though, and one which she planned to spent the next seven years studying. She wondered about the sorts of subjects that were available at Hogwarts as she walked into the Great Hall along with the rest of the new students. She looked up from the floor that she had been staring at, when she almost crashed into another student. Am I late? Annie wondered with a start, realizing that the rest of the school were already present. Then she noticed that she was standing with the rest of the first years, who were also waiting to be sorted, so she was not late to her first day of school.

That was a good sign. She certainly didn't want everyone staring at her. She stood on her toes to see over the heads of the taller students so she could hear her name being called. Soon enough, "Delaney, Eviana" was called. Annie almost didn't recognise her name, seeing as it was only used when people were mad at her. She walked up to the sorting hat, making sure that her arms were covered by the school robes, as they were covered in black ink from the train ride, where she had run out of paper to draw on. Annie didn't want anyone to think that she had giant tattoos on her arms, as wicked as that would have been. She sat down on the stool and allowed the too-big hat to be placed on her head. "Hi." She murmured to the hat, then was silent so the hat wouldn't think that she was an annoying chatterbox.

"You'll do grand in GRYFFINDOR!"
