James couldn’t believe how quickly the semester was going, they soon found themselves in the penultimate week of classes, the students he was about to see would only have the normal end of year exams but his other classes would have to sit their O.W.Ls and N.E.W.Ts. He almost felt as nervous as they did, he might have only taught them for a single semester but he felt like their results would be a reflection of him. Rightly, or wrongly.
The sixth year students made their way into the classroom and once they had taken their seats James waved his hand with a flick of his wrist and the door closed with a soft thud. “Welcome back. I hope you’re all well rested because we’ll not be wasting any time today, wands at the ready and I do hope you all practiced,” James raised his wand above his head with a flourish and the desks were moved to the edges of the classroom, reasonably gently as not to disturb anything left on them.
“Pair up, you’ve all been here long enough to know how this works, one of you will use a shielding charm, the other will attempt to stun, I don’t want to hear any incantations from any of you,” James looked around the room, he looked for nervous faces as they would be the ones he kept an eye on. “Remember, you need clear minds to cast a non-verbal spell, leave everything else at the classroom door and we can begin,”
James set them off to work, he moved through the classroom keeping an eye on any student he had pegged as looking nervous and casting a quick glance on the students he had expected to do well. Overall, he wasn’t terribly disappointed which was a positive feeling. As he drew the class to an end he felt proud of his students efforts, some of them had work to do it was true, but they had all come so far and that was worth celebrating.
“You’ve done well today, you should be proud of your efforts, there’s no homework for tonight but I do encourage you to go away and continue to practice non-verbal magic with the basic Lumos and Nox,” His lips split into an uncontrollable grin as he said the names of the spells. “Sorry, my twin boys are named Lumos and Nox so that was quite amusing to me, anyway class dismissed,”
RP the lesson. If students wish to practice non-verbal spells outside of lessons feel free to link me to threads doing so for extra credit. Simple spells only, any boneheaded attempts will result in point deductions and detentions.
