Sixth Years: Lesson 2

Professor Killian Borisyuk was sitting behind his desk with his arms behind his head as he waited for the sixth years to arrive. This was going to be one long lesson, so he knew that they would be in for it. It wasn't like Voldemort only had a few pages of acts he had done. Likely textbooks worth. And he was squeezing it all into one year. Killian would have to summarize a fair bit of it. He kept his green eyes on the door as the sixth years finally entered, and got settled down. Killian cleared his throat to gain their attention, "Notes out because we are getting right into it. This will be a long lesson. If you fall asleep, I'll take you out of the classroom." Killian almost said that he would throw them out, but some might take that as a death threat coming from him. And he rather not have that sort of drama on him because that would be such a headache and not worth it.

"Anyway, with that in mind, Lord Voldemort was born as Tom Marvolo Riddle. This you all should know. His actual birthday is 31st of December 1926. His mother died giving birth to him after she spiked Voldemort's father with a love potion. So, he was abandoned and raised in Wool's Orphanage. Even at a young age, he performed rather insidious acts on the other orphans there before he attended Hogwarts in Scotland. He was sorted into Slytherin, and school helped fund his supplies - courtesy of Dumbledore. He became a model student at Hogwarts, becoming a prefect, head boy, earning the Medal for Magical Merit, and fooled everyone around him of being this kind, brilliant student. That is, with the exception of Dumbledore. While in school, he even opened the Chamber of Secrets after becoming obsessed with his heritage, murdered a girl, and pinned it on a part-giant student that attended." Killian paused for a moment to reach out to his desk, grabbed his water bottle to take a small drink of it.

Voldemort had accomplished a lot, and he was just now touching base with it. "After graduating, Voldemort had a small group of 'friends', but more like servants really, and went off to collect more of those that would stand with his cause as he took a heavy stance against muggles and muggle-borns. They were 'unworthy' in his eyes. Voldemort abandoned his name and became known exclusively as Lord Voldemort and not Tom Riddle. He, at two separate points, attempted to become the Defence Against the Dark Arts. He was rejected the first time when he was 18, and then the second time a decade later when Dumbledore was in office. After that, no one remained in that position longer than a year, making people think it was jinxed. Perhaps it was, since it ended promptly after Voldemort died.

"So, Voldemort laid low for some time, secretly gathering followers. You know these people as Death Eaters, but originally, that was not their name."
Killian paused for a moment to let the students catch up as he was winding down on some of the material for the day. After all, the lesson was a good, long one and this entire year would be rather heavy. "Voldemort had a little gang of Slytherins back in school, but prior to 1970, Voldemort named his followers Knights of Walpurgis. Some of the gang members then shared the same surnames as the Knights of Walpurgis, so either they were the same people, or related in some manner. This is the origin of the Death Eaters, which you will hear more of them in the next lesson." Killian looked at his watch and saw that now was a good time to end the class. "Homework is over your opinion over the real reason why Voldemort might have wanted the position at Hogwarts, and what happened after he was denied. Class dismissed." Killian motioned toward the door and let the students free.
Assignment: RP the lesson.
Extra credit: 5 EC points for assignment. No research needed. Just have your student give their opinion over why he wanted to teach. Was it to really educate, recruit, dance with the ghosts over their amazing Hallowe'en party, or try to be good, the choice is yours.

Bailey was all set for a lecture on Voldemort as she settled into her seat, blanket sheet of parchment laid out on her desk in front of her. She wasn’t a fan of long lectures, but there was nothing she could do about it and Professor Borisyuk demanded full attention or she’d be kicked out of the classroom. There was no time to think about anything else other than paying full attention to the man.

The lecture was long, terrifying and somewhat interesting even if what they were learning about never effected the country they currently resided in. Voldemort never even troubled her home country of the United States, Voldemort seemed to be a British problem with a few minor excursions into mainland Europe, Bailey wasn’t sure why he was so important that they were learning about him decades later in New Zealand, but she wasn’t about to ask her professor that, he’d just kick her out. Once the lecture and the lesson were over Bailey packed up her notes and made her way out of the classroom.

The sixth year Ravenclaw made his way from the Ravenclaw towers. He was dressed well enough to attend classes, and his Ravenclaw robes flowed around him as he made his way down the stairs. In both castles, he had to descend an awful lot of stairs. He was annoyed by it, in either one. At least he was not a lazy lad and could handle the stairs. He also carried the textbooks and parchment light, and just packed what he needed. And, it was good that he did not have too many courses. He had what he wanted to become a healer, and that was all he was putting his effort into.

Loki walked in the History of Magic classroom and sat down in his seat. He heard the little threat of being tossed out if anyone fell asleep. Loki took out his parchment, ink and quill regardless. He started to take notes over Voldemort's childhood, and parts that they never touched before. He wondered if he was a bit picky with the whole 'pinning a murder on a part-giant' thing. Loki heard the homework so he took a note of it in his planner to work on it after this. He packed his belongings back into his bag, got up and left upon dismissal.

Horror Zhefarovich had a few of his textbooks out on his bed after he showered and got dressed. He had a lesson to attend today, and the rest were out for studying later. He looked at the time and day to see which of his classes that he had to attend. Once he figured it out, he grabbed the book and stuffed it into his bag. He had everything else gathered. From notes to wand, there was nothing that he was missing. He slung his bag over his shoulder and left, knowing that he would be there before the other prefect in his dorm. Horror cared more for his classes than Mikael. He had no idea what that meant about him though.

Horror entered the History of Magic classroom and gathered his note taking equipment once he settled in his seat. They were soon diving into Voldemort's childhood and what all he did at school. From his notes, Voldemort was an accomplished student. Great grades, model prefect, all of it sounded like such a stuck up. Horror would not have liked that at all. It was too much work to kiss the a**es of all of the professors. Horror brushed off those thoughts as he wrapped up his notes. He got up and left after he thought over the homework assignment.

Theodore sauntered into History of Magic class, uniform in disarray as per usual and slid into a seat near the back this time, his chin propped on his hand. The moment the professor told them to get their notes out, Theodore couldn't help but let out a rather loud groan. "Really? Notes on Voldy's Greatest Hits? I swear he's not that interesting," he said as he dropped his head onto the desk rather dramatically. He couldn't believe he had to listen to that baldy's adventures again. He didn't really bother with taking notes, settling for twirling his quill in his fingers as the man detailed Voldemort's history. It wasn't like it was particularly interesting - though he was sure a couple of Slytherins back home do still try to get into the Chamber of Secrets. At one point, when the professor was talking about the Knights of Walpurgis, he'd attempted to doodle knights with skulls for heads holding snakes - and passed that doodle on to the Ravenclaw, @Loki Styx. And then to @Bailey Walden-Cade, he sent over a particularly nice cartoon drawing of good ol' Voldy holding a piece of paper stamped Rejected flashing colors. With the homework being given, Theo leaned back and thought of what to write on his homework. "You'd think Dumbledore could've just hired him and saved everyone a lot of trouble figuring out where he was doing his terrorism hobby. What’s one dark wizard among the staff? Seemed to happen a lot anyway," he said with a sigh as he scribbled on his parchment before handing that over to the professor on his way out.

Theodore Nightray

Could go either way really - maybe he'd like to have a positive influence on children after his sordid upbringing. Or it's just way easier to corrupt young impressionable minds in a boarding school.

Hinata entered the classroom, ready to take down notes. Considering their coverage for the semester, Hina didn't doubt that this would be an intense lesson and that she'd need to focus and deal with her thoughts on the topic for later. She settled into her seat and got her parchment, quill, and ink ready when Professor Borisyuk signalled them to take notes. As the professor began, she listened attentively, jotting down detailed notes on Voldemort’s early life. She underlined key phrases like "model student" and "fooled everyone except Dumbledore." She hadn't really known until now that the dark wizard had applied - and been rejected for a teaching position in Hogwarts. Thinking of Voldemort as a professor like her dad was, well, it was kind of a silly thought. She hadn't really known about the Knights of Walpurgis either and how it was a precursor to Death Eaters. Still, she wondered how things in history would have turned out if Voldemort had done some things differently. She shuddered at the thought. As Professor Borisyuk announced the homework, Hinata’s mind was already buzzing with ideas. She'd have to figure out what to write so she was quite determined to research more about Voldemort’s possible motivations.
