Seventh Years: Lesson Four

Angel was excited for today’s lesson to get started, ready to really get into some practical work with his seventh years for once. Sure, there was a little risk involved, at least for the students, but they should all be perfectly competent by this point anyway, hopefully. At the very least he could go say hi to Josephine should anyone need a trip to the Hospital Wing. Angel waved the class in impatiently as the students began to arrive, launching into the lesson as soon as everyone was accounted for.

Hey guys, we’ve got something real exciting for you today, follow me,” Angel said, cutting to the chase and leading the class to the area he’d set up outside, hopefully away from where any younger students could get to. “Hopefully, you all remember covering snargaluffs last year, because today we’re going to be harvesting them. Nothing like a little bit of mortal peril to make sure it really sticks,” he said, rubbing his hands together as the students gathered with him near the two stumps out on the lawns.

Angel knew this wouldn’t be an easy task, but he hoped the class would enjoy this more than some simple revision work or studying. “Now there are two of them, so do watch your back. Might pay to have a partner if you want, but lone rangering it up is fine too. I’ve got some supplies here if one gets you, and I’ll be watching if you get into any real trouble, promise.” Angel gave them what might have been an encouraging thumbs up before motioning for the class to line up, ready to begin harvesting. “Alright, get ready, once you get your snargaluff pod, you’re free to go,” he said, clapping his hands so the first students could begin.

RP your student harvesting their snargaluff pod. If you need a reminder, Snargaluff resemble a tree stump with thorny vines that will attack when approached. They produce green pods about the size of a grapefruit.

Feel free to have some fun harvesting, it'll be a bit of a challenge but PM me if you intend to have any serious harm or danger befall your student

Emmanuel walked into the herbology greenhouse, but wasn’t in the room for very long, the professor was then bringing them out of the green house classroom and to one of the areas outside it, where they were to collect a snargaluff pod. He nodded at the instructions and then was watching it, taking the time to watch others as they completed it. He was keen to see how others tried it before he stepped forward to do so. He had his wand in hand, and then used it to cast a quick stunning spell, which froze the plant in place, then he approached and did gently retrieve the pod, ensuring that he didn’t do so in a manner that would cause the plant undue harm, and then he stepped away. He unfroze it the moment he was out of reach.

Rory always rolled his eyes whenever a professor tried to do something ‘real exciting’ because in his experience the attempts always fell flat. He followed Professor Castillo outside to an area he had set up earlier and he informed them they’d be harvesting snargaluffs. Rory paired up with one of his classmates as he didn’t fancy taking on two snargaluffs at once. He took out the tools he needed and got to work harvesting them. It took a bit of work and a few choice words from him in the attempt but he finally managed to harvest himself a snargaluff pod. Rory showed it to Professor Castillo to prove he had done it and handed it into him before leaving the greenhouse.

The Gryffindor prefect wondered if he would be able to keep the badge once he graduated, or if he would have to turn it in. Chaos Zhefarovich the Second did not want to lose it because it was proof that he had done more than his father. It made him smirk at the sheer thought of accomplishing more. Chaos wanted to be a formidable force in the world one day, and this might be one of the keys. Chaos pinned the badge on his chest as he got ready in the Gryffindor dorm. He occasionally glanced at Kyon and wondered how in the world he managed to convince Emmanuel to date him. Such a waste of talent. Balancing them out, a smart boy and an idiot, it sort of made a normal person. It was a humorous thought that kept him entertained as he walked out to head to his next course.

Chaos walked in the greenhouse once more, and wondered what they would be doing today. They did not have to touch the last plant, thankfully. Would they have to touch the next one? Rather than stay in the greenhouse, they were led out to another area that was set up - and then the word came out. Snargaluffs. Great. He had to have a partner for this one because he did not trust the plant not to make a meal out of him. He, along with his partner, went along to get a pod. Once he had his, he tossed it to his partner and grabbed another before he was struck by one of the vines. By the end of class, the sleeve of his robes was ripped, but at least he was not a snack for a tree stump.

Angel could admitted probably watch the seventh years a bit closer while they were harvesting the pods, despite his students age, the plants were still highly dangerous even for adult wizards. He'd lulled himself into a false sense of security since Chaos had a partner and wasn't at all ready when the boy took a nasty lash to the arm for his troubles.

At least both students made it out of there with a pod and no more damage Angel thought, inspecting Chaos' arm briefly as he handed in his pod before heading out. "I saw you make sure your partner got their pod right before you got hit, 5 points for a little old fashioned chivalry there," Angel said, content that Chaos wasn't about to have any lasting damage beyond needing a tailor. "And maybe get that checked at the Hospital Wing before your next class."

Ethan was running late as he rushed across the lawn to make it to the greenhouse on time. He had to push past some first years who were taking their sweet time walking to their next class. He felt bad but didn’t have the time to dwell on it. He made it just in time and was gasping for air as he collapsed into a seat in the back of class. As Professor Castillo began the lesson Ethan had just enough time to catch his breath before they were faced with the day’s challenge. He took the professor’s advice and worked with a partner to get the pod harvested. It was a challenge but he left the class with all his fingers which he figured was a requirement to get a good grade.
