Seventh Years: Lesson Five

"Got something a little different for you all today as a treat for surviving your snargaluffs last week," Angel said encouragingly as his Seventh years began arriving, motioning the last stragglers inside the greenhouse. In previous years, Angel had set up the class with a quiz this week, but quizzes meant grading and Angel hated grading, so he'd decided to scrap that idea for something much better now.

"What we have here is an Alihotsy, you may have encountered its leaves in Potions already," Angel said, waving a hand to the small tree he'd set up in front of the class. It had rather distinctive mottled red and green leaves, which Angel pointed to with his wand as he spoke. "Also known as the Hyena plant, anyone know what these leaves can do when ingested?" Angel pointed at one of the students, always pleased when they answered things so he didn't have to explain. "That's right, they induce hysteria and uncontrollable laughter, hence the nickname. You'll often find them in Laughing Potions."

Stepping away from the tree to let the students investigate, Angel retrieved his other, more hands on item for today's class, happily dropping it on the bench in front of them. "Alihotsy's also pretty common in confectionery, diluted of course, since the cheering effect is rather pleasant," he said, relieving the collection of fudge and flavored chocolates he'd picked up from Honeyduke's last time he was in Brightstone. "Glumbumble treacle is also an excellent antidote to Alihotsy leaves, so I've picked up some of that for you all to try too. For science of course, you understand." Angel smiled, motioning his students to grab some of the chocolates and fudge on the table. "That's all I've got today, help yourself and relax a bit while you still can," he said before grabbing some of the fudge himself and taking a seat as the lesson wrapped up.

RP the lesson and sample some fudge if you're so inclined. First poster can answer the question for some extra points.

Emmanuel was focused on his studies, he needed to be. He wanted to do well in his exams, and he wanted to be on the next step of his education, but to do that, he had to be revising. He was working hard, doing a lot of work, making sure that most of the time that wasn’t dedicated to Kyon or his head boy duties, was dedicated to his studies. He hadn’t really ever failed an exam, or got lower than an EE, but this was the final set of Hogwarts exams he would do, and therefore to stumble now would be quite a feat. He grabbed the last bits and pieces he would need for the day and then headed out to class.

Emmanuel walked into the herbology greenhouse and took his usual spot in the room. He smiled at the professor told them they’d be getting a treat for having dealt with the snargaluffs. He was quite eager for that. The pressure of his NEWTs was really heating up and he could use a little relief. He looked to the professor as the man got started, but Emmanuel was not quick enough to raise his hand to answer the question posed to the class. He did take a couple of notes about it, making sure that he was getting it correctly and then did try some of the fudge the professor had for them. It was nice. He tidied up his notes a little, and then headed out of the room.

After almost losing a finger to the snargaluff during the previous lesson Rory was hoping for something a lot more laid back for the penultimate lesson before the end of the semester. Once he got into the greenhouse and settled into his seat Professor Castillo began to talk about Alihotsy, something he recognised from potions. When asked if anyone knew what happened if they’re ingested, Rory raised his hand to answer. “They induce hysteria and uncontrollable laughter,” he said calmly, knowing he had the answer right. Since it was something found in sweets in a diluted form, Professor Castillo seemed to take the liberty of bringing some in for them to try, why not? It was almost the end of term after all. Rory grabbed some of the glumbumble treacle on his way out of the greenhouse once they’d been dismissed. He wouldn’t miss herbology, but he never said no to a snack.

The Gryffindor prefect decided that today he was going to try to be early to class. Chaos Zhefarovich the Second looked over his hair as he got ready. It looked as perfect as it ever would be. He figured that this would always be how he looked since there was nothing he could do to change his style. His hair had a mind of its own. He wondered if he got it from his mother or father. It was hard to tell. Chaos buttoned up his shirt next, and then put on his robes with the Gryffindor prefect badge on his chest. He looked good, if he could say so himself. He definitely got the better half from his mother. He smirked in the mirror and left to head on to his class.

Chaos walked in the greenhouse and wondered if they were going to sit down and learn something, or go out. It was hard to tell with Professor Castillo, but soon enough, he sat down at his station and hoped that he would not end up with another dangerous plant to harvest anything. Today, they would be looking at Alihotsy. Right, he had seen several leaves of this plant because of their potion lessons. He took a couple of notes over the plant, and what it would do if ingested, even if he did know already. He opted out of getting any of the sweets. He chose to relax and chill until it was time to leave. This beat last lesson over and over again.
