Second Years, Lesson Four

FOURTH LESSON
Noel had been preparing the classroom for todays lesson. And that resulted in pushing deks and chairs to the sides, while using magic. As soon as the last table was put aside he heard the door opening and the first students walked in. He stood in front of the classroom and welcomed them with an friendly smile. Todat the second years were going to practice spells again this week so he was making sure that they had enough room for that. The sign the students got when their desks and chairs were not on the usual place, usually said enough which kind of lesson it would be. And he saw excited faces, so that was good. When everyone seemed to be in, he closed the door and his friendly brown eyes scanned the room.

'' Good morning, everyone.'' He than said. '' Today I will need another volunteer for today's demonstration. The one who comes up to help me will receive extra house points.'' For some of them the extra house points didn't even seemed to matter so much and they just wanted some action. But it could be usefull, and some hands raised in the air he noticed. Noel smiled and picked one of the students in front of him and beckoned them to step forward and come stand next to him. He gave them an friendly smile and nod to make sure they were ready, and than pointed his wand at the students knees. Noel waved his wand and watched as the student's kneecaps turned the wrong way. To keep the student up Noel let them lean on him so that the rest of the students could see the spell's effect. After a moment, Noel performed the counter-spell and thanked the students with the promised house points to their house.

''The spell I just performed was the Knee-Reversring Hex. Again, the spell's effect is in the name. The target's kneecaps are flipped the wrong way. Thankfully, this effect of this spell can also be easily fixed.'' He paused. ''However, you won't be practising all the spells we discuss in class this year. The Knee-Reversing Hex is a rather advanced spell for your year and is one which I wouldn't expect you to master for your exam. You're allowed to practice the spell yourselves, of course, but do not feel discouraged when you fail to perform it correctly. Again, it's a rather advanced spell.'' He than wanted to make sure, a few could perhaps do the trick but it was not like it was expected. But they were now familliar with what the spell could do at least.Of course, he'd happily help the few wanting to practice this spell. He did like ambitious people. ''Next week's jinxes are, for example.., jinxes that the Ministry of Magic might find odd ones to practice on each other.'' Noel than added. He knew that very well, since he had worked there.

''As you advance through this course, you are to use the spells and the knowledge you have learned in previous years. Finite, our General Counter-Spell, can effectively reverse most of the minor jinxes, hexes, and curses. The Shield Charm, Stunning Spell, and Disarming Charm are useful spells to master if you want to avoid being a target in the first place.'' Noel than looked an bit more serious, it was important to master some of these spells and charms. ''Learning offensive magic is important, of course, but so is learning defensive spells.'' It would perhaps seem less more action or fun, but it could really save you from an situation. Noel than looked at the time, and figued to quickly continue. ''Now, I want all of you to partner up with each other and use the rest of the time we have today to brush up on the Trip Jinx, the Jelly-Legs Jinx, and the other spells and charms I mentioned earlier. You're also allowed to practice the Knee-Reversing Hex if you want to, but keep in mind that it is more difficult than it looks.'' Noel than told them. And as usual he walked through the classroom to help out.

- Roleplay the lesson and partner up with another character to practice the spells and charms mentioned. Your character can try the Knee-Reversing Hex, but this spell is listed for advanced second-years, so keep that in mind.
- Use tags if you like some interaction with your partner and you can tag @Professor Noel Waldgrave if you like some interaction. I will try my best to respond.
- The first student who participates in the demonstration will receive extra credit

Eoghan wasn't entirely sure if he trusted the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, although that didn't stop him from trying his best in the subject. He took his usual seat and listened as professor Waldgrave immediately asked for another volunteer. His hand shot up in the air given he'd already been a volunteer once in the lessons, and even though it had been a little unnerving he was sure he could do it again. He made his way to the front of the classroom, unsure as to what the professor was going to do until it was too late.

Eoghan had barely more than a moment to nod at the man before he felt as though his limbs were inside out. He would have fallen to the floor had the professor not been beside him to catch him. The pain was horrendous and Eoghan immediately felt sick, the sensation of his twisted legs was almost too much for the second year to handle. He didn't wait long however until he used the counter curse to fix his legs, although Eoghan stood at the front of the room unable to take a step in fear that his legs might still be backwards and give out on him when he tried to use them. It took him what felt like forever to finally take the steps needed to return to his desk, although before he made it, he found himself steadying himself on the edge as his breakfast reappeared on the DADA classroom floor.

Pale and sweaty, Eoghan didn't wait to see the other students practise the same jinx on their own friends, and instead wobbled out the classroom before anyone could say anything else.

Lilith arrived to her DADA lesson, feeling uneasy. There was something about practicing these things on each other that made her stomach do flips and not in the good way her books did when something sweet happened, but in the complete opposite. As the lesson arrived Lilith got more and more nervous and as a volunteer was asked and Eoghan shot his hand up Lilith grabbed his arm with both hands. "Antares, please don't go. Let someone else." She whispered and pleaded with her eyes, not caring if others saw, this was not a good idea and nobody wanted to watch this. Or perhaps some did. Lilith's efforts were in vain as the blond boy made it up. Refusing to look any further she turned her head away and felt nauseous. Why was a professor doing this to students? There had to be a better way than that.

As Eoghan returned and emptied his stomach Lilith wasn't feeling much better, she tried to stay but they were told to practice on each other and that was enough for her. Getting up she rushed out the door after Eoghan deciding that no grade was worthy of purposefully casting such spell on any of her friends in a classroom setting.

Susie was thoroughly enjoying DADA, and she arrived at the classroom that morning with all her usual enthusiasm. Today they would be learning another hex - but not before Professor Waldgrave called upon the class for a volunteer. Susie thrust her hand into the air. Pick me. Pick me, pick me. She was the perfect guinea pig: keen, and happy to laugh at herself. But to her dismay, the professor picked Eoghan. Again! Ugh, there was definitely some favouritism going on. Perhaps Professor Waldgrave was a Ravenclaw himself, and now he contrived to give all the extra credit to his own house. Oh well - it was pretty funny watching the colour drain from Eoghan's face as his knees turned inside-out. That wasn't a sight she'd forget in a hurry.

Her amusement was short-lived. No sooner had Eoghan returned to his desk (which was unfortunately adjacent to Susie's) than he started spewing his guts up. "Ewww!" she said, shifting as far away as she could without actually getting up off her chair. Gross. He had to be contagious, right? Surely he wasn't barfing just because his knees felt a bit funny. She almost felt sorry for him; people would connect the two whether it was true or not, and he'd always be known for his weak stomach. That was pretty rough.

Susie picked a partner on the other side of the room. After that colourful explosion, she was hesitant to let anybody cast the knee-reversal hex on herself. Sure, she could probably handle it, but it'd be pretty embarrassing if the same thing happened to her. So instead she practised the other spells until it was time to leave.

Eurydice entered the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, already displeased as she noted the desks and chairs off to the sides. This was not going to go well. She immediately found Jonah, taking his arm, which made her cousin look at her weirdly. It was fine; she knew Jonah. And she wasn't going to let him. When Professor Noel greeted the class and asked for a volunteer, Eurydice held on to Jonah's arm, keeping him from raising it, her grip tightening as she looked at him pleadingly. She looked away when he looked at her; she didn't want to see him looking at her in betrayal. She wasn't going to let her cousin volunteer to be hurt and humiliated for extra credit. She watched as Eoghan volunteered. It was awful. Eury had been learning this spell from a book and was willing to use it to defend herself against some older students. She wasn't willing to practice it on her classmates, worse, her cousins. Eurydice scanned the room, feeling just a little sick to find some classmates eager to practice. She grabbed @Elijah Edogawa anyway, and though they were a group of three, she didn't trust others not to practice that awful hex on her cousins. She stayed with them as they practiced the Trip Jinx and the Jelly-Legs Jinx. She could practice that Knee-Reversing Hex some more down in the duelling chambers. She was sure she almost had it down anyway.

Eli quietly listened to Professor Waldgrave as the lesson began, noticing his cousin’s tight grip on his brother’s arm and sensing her unease. He was glad she’d kept a tight grip on Jonah, he had a nasty habit of volunteering himself for these things and he just wish he knew why. When the class was given time to practice, he partnered up with Eurydice, knowing she'd rather focus on less advanced spells. "Don't worry, we'll stick to the Trip Jinx and Jelly-Legs Jinx," he said softly, giving her a reassuring smile. As they cast the Trip Jinx on each other, Eli focused on his technique, wanting to do well in the class, uncaring if he impressed the professor or not, but also mindful of how Eurydice seemed to be avoiding the more dangerous spells. They worked well together, with Eli offering some tips on the finer details of the Jelly-Legs Jinx, and he kept an eye on the others in case someone got too carried away. Jinxes were fine to practice on others, but a hex wasn't meant for that, and he would not be performing a hex on his family. what an awful teaching manner this school had. They should all be put on trial.
