As the waves rolled in and out along the shore, Jacob was doing his best to not fall asleep on his beach towel. He had a baseball cap resting over his face, shading it from the sun. Life was good right now. School was out, and his family had sent him and a friend on a trip. He'd picked Kengi, knowing that he'd have a good time and it would be good for him to have someone with more knowledge of the muggle world than he had. Jacob was loving being in California and not looking forward to getting back to New Zealand at all. He knew that returning home would also come with the expectation to begin job searching, and though he knew where he wanted to apply, Jacob was also incredibly stressed at the prospect of filling out that particular application. Once it was in, there would be no hiding it from his family, especially if he was accepted.

"Too bad we can't stay forever, yeah?" he stated, lifting his cap just a little and turning his head to look at his friend through squinted eyes. The sun was bright and hot at this time of day.

Kengi sat on his towel reading a book. A book at the beach was so boring, but Kennedy would quiz him on it as soon as he got home. When Jacob invited him to California, there was no way Kengi could say no. The former Hufflepuff tried to convince Kennedy to let Rita tag along, but his father knew it was a bad idea. Plus, Rita didn't want to join. Kengi tossed the book to the side and laid back. He looked over to Jacob and smiled. "Maybe if we close our eyes and clap really hard, we could," he jokingly suggested. The man turned his head with his eyes closed before he inhaled deeply and put all his strength into one clap as he exhaled.

Jacob let out a chuckle. It was great to be lazy. They'd earned it. Seven years of magical training had not been easy. Lifting up onto his elbows, the cap falling from his face onto the sand, Jacob glanced at the waves for a moment. "So what's next for you, Keng?" He'd never asked him before, which he knew was odd. But he was sure that Kengi was used to his odd behavior. "Don't forget, we have to grab Rita a souvenir before we head back. Maybe we can head to one of the boardwalk shops tonight..." he mused aloud.

Kengi shrugged. "I'm still thinking. No rush to decide yet!" He said with his eyes still closed. Kennedy was already disappointed in Kengi for not making the grades to be a Hit Wizard, and Rita admitted she hadn't been expecting much from Kengi either. The person he cared about most didn't even have faith in him, so why try? He opened his eyes and was met with the blinding rays of sunlight. He shielded his eyes with a hand. "Hm, what do they have? I only saw t-shirts and flip flops really." Kengi turned to Jacob. "What are your plans? I know you have something!"
