Kat walked down to the lawn after her Charms class was over with. They had just been taught how to perform and summoning charm, so she was wanting to practice somewhere out in the open. Kat found a couple of smooth stones and lined them up beside each other.

"ACCIO stone!" she said very clearly and demanding.

All at once all of the stones came flying at Kat she fell over when she tried to duck to miss them and started laughing when she did.

Then a thought popped into her mind. She took her red ink out of her bag and dipped the stone into it then placed the stone on the ground, stepped back a few feet and tried again.

"ACCIO red stone!" This time the ink covered stone flew directly towards her and Kat caught it in her wand-free hand.

YES!! I did it! I can't believe it!

Estrella had decided to take a walk to get some fresh air, and noticed a student using the summoning charm. She winced as all the stones flew at the girl, but thankfully, she wasn't hurt.

Strolling up to the student, she stated with a smirk, "Watch out; you wouldn't want to hurt yourself practicing something as simple as Accio."

Kat jumped when a girl walked up and talked to her. "Yeah and i'd be the one to get hurt too!" she said with a weak smile. Kat didn't know why she clammed up every time she met knew people. "Umm, any pointers for me? You know, so I don't hurt myself." said Kat hopefully.

Estrella smiled; Charms was her forte, if any class was. "By the way, I'm Estrella Drage. Ravenclaw Third Year, and Prefect," she greeted, if a little too proudly.

"Pointers? Well, I'd be way more specific when you're summoning something. That thing with the red stone, that was a good idea. But sometimes, you won't have paint or somesuch. Then, you have to rely on what you see before you."

Prefect! Kat thought to herself, Great now I look like an idiot.

"I'm Katalina Vanderhol, Kat for short though, 1st year Gryffindor and aspiring prefect." she said, hoping she didn't sound too idiotic.

Kat thought for a moment and then asked Estrella, "Would you mind showing me? If you don't have time I completely understand, I just thought maybe you could, I don't know, urm, maybe help me a little bit. If you want to that is."

Stop rambling ding dong!

Estrella smirked at the girl, remembering what it was like to be a first year. "Well, Kat, that's good," she commented with a grin.

She laughed. "I have all the time in the world; I'm not loaded with electives this term, so when I'm not doing homework, I usually just read a book or walk around."

Whipping out her bloodwood wand, her most prized possession, Estrella waved it with a fancy flourish at the parade of stones, and she bellowed, "Accio jagged black stone!" The stone in question, which was not as smooth as the others, flew to her hand, and she looked to Kat with a smirk. "See? That way, it's a lot safer."

Kat's eyes grew wide with admiration when Estrella performed the charm effortlessly. She looked around for a moment and found a twig that was in a sort of 'S' shape lying beside a huge rock. Kat took a deep breath in, focused on the 'S' shaped twig and said, "Accio 'S' shaped twig." Nothing happend. Kat's heart sank to the bottom of her stomach and she felt as though she would cry, but she forced back the tears. With another deep breath, Kat focused on the twig, gave her wand a wave and said more sternly, "ACCIO 'S' shaped twig!" This time the little stick flew right in Kat's direction and she caught it in her hand.

"Is that any better?" she asked Estrella curiously, still not feeling completely sure of herself.

Estrella watched as Kat tried her spell the first time, and figured, It can be hard enough anyways. She herself had never had a problem with Charms, but everyone was different.

"That was very good," she replied, smiling. "By the way, what do you think of the new Charms Professor? I haven't had him yet, but I"ve talked to him a few times."

"THANKS!!" said Kat a little to enthusiastically, but excited that she had done well on summoning.

"He's really nice. And he's very hands on with the class, which I think helps alot! He seems to really know his stuff too, which I guess is why he's teaching here. Overall I like him and the class!" Kat said truthfully. Charms and transfiguration were her 2 favorite classes this term. They happened to be right up there with DADA.

"Well, that's a relief," Estrella commented, "I hope he stays; Charms is my favorite class, too, but it's almost like the job's been cursed. He's the fourth professor to be here in the past three years." She looked at a piece of grass, and said, "So, how are you liking school in general? I remember what it's like to be a first year. I was so excited, yet I was very nervous, too."

"I absolutely love it here! The classes, the people, just being here in general. I love everything about it. Though like you said, i'm very nervous, i've always been very shy, but i'm slowly starting to make friends. My grades are good, but i'm better at book work than I am at the hands on stuff." Kat took deep breath and then said, "Sorry I tend to ramble when i'm nervous! And I always get nervous around new people!"

"That's totally fine," Estrella replied, smiling. "You'll have an awesome time! School is very fun." She sat down in the grass, picking at a dandelion and twirling it in her hand. "It's going to be interesting seeing next year's first years. It feels like it was only yesterday that I was that young."

"My sister will be coming here next year!" Kat said excitedly. "I can't believe how fast this year has flown by. I swear it seems like just yesterday that I got my letter." Kat sat down near Estrella in the grass and said "So where are you from?"

"Really? You have a sister coming here?" Estrella inquired, smiling. "If my brother ever comes here, which I"m not sure if my dad will send him to Hogwarts Scotland or here, it'll be a long time from now. I don't think he's even one yet." She shivered a bit, though she was quick to conceal it; mentioning her Death Eater father always sent a chill up her spine, even though she had since gotten used to the idea.

"Me?" she asked, her eyes bright. "I'm from several different places. I used to live in Britain, and then when my mom died and dad disappeared, I moved to the States with my uncle. Recently, I've been staying in Britain, sometimes with my dad, sometimes not." Of course, she would not reveal to Kat the true nature of these visits, or of her father. "I don't really know where to say I"m from; if you count my accent into it, I'm from the U.S., if you count where I was born, Britain, if you count where my family's from, Norway, and if you count where my heart is-" she paused for a bit, "You could say I'm from this school.

Shrugging, she said apologetically, "Sorry, I tend to rant."

"Haha! A fellow rambler! Maybe we should start a club!" said Kat jokingly.

"Serena, my sister, will be attending here next year! I'm excited that she'll be here with me. I have a feeling it will help to cut down on the homesickness that I tend to get quite frequently." Kat fought to hold back tears. Everytime she mentioned her family she got terribly homesick and missed them horribly.

"So you have a little brother? How cute! I'm sorry to hear about your mother, but it seems that you are somewhat close with your father." said Kat with a weak smile. She couldn't imagine life without her mother. "So are you pureblood or half blood? Sorry I don't mean to pry, you can tell me to shut up if you want to. I won't take any offence to it.

"A rambler club; I like it!" Estrella laughed, glad that she was getting along so well with a new person.

She shifted in the grass, popping off the cap of the dandelion. "I'm glad some of your family is coming here," she replied, smiling.

She raised her eyebrow. "Somewhat close with my father?" She thought about the question for a moment, and she replied quietly, "I guess you could say that." She sat there for a moment, and she replied, "I'm half-blood."

"Me too! My mum is a muggle born witch and my dad is half-blood. So I guess i'm like half-half blood!" Kat said with a goofy grin, knowing that may have sounded completly stupid.

"Do you get to see your little brother often?" she asked curiously.

"No, I don't get to see him often," Estrella replied quietly, and quickly added, "Yeah, I think you can call me a straight out half- blood, because my mom was muggle and my dad is magical."

Kat could tell that the conversation about family was not sitting well with her new friend so she quickly changed the subject. "So what subjects are you taking this term? Does it get terribly harder the further you move along in school?"

Estrella smiled. "It's not terribly hard; the work is just a bit more difficult. But as long as you study, you should be fine."

Glad for the subject change, she replied, "I'm not taking any electives this term. All I have is Transfiguration, Astronomy and Herbology. I took all of my electives already."

"Well i'm definitely the book worm! I study all the time practically!" Kat said with a smile. "I hate astronomy! Its my worst class ever! My grades so far are okay, but it's just so boring! I love transfiguration though and herbology was fun last term. What electives did you take last term?"

Estrella stuck out her tongue when Katalina mentioned Astronomy. "Yuck, I'm right with you. I hate that class too."

She smiled back at Kat, replying, "Herbology is okay, and so is Transfiguration. I took Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, and Care of Magical Creatures last term. They were all pretty interesting."

"I guess I still have a little bit to have to look at what electives I need and want to take, but i've still been thinking alot about what I want to do when I grow up. What do you think that you want to do?" she asked Estrella curisouly.

With an air of pride, Estrella replied, "I already know what I want to do; I want to come back here and teach."

"Gosh, I wish I knew what I wanted to do once I have graduated, I have a few ideas, but nothing concrete right now," Kat said feeling slightly overwhelmed. "I've never really thought about teaching. Might be an option though!"

Not really wanting to talk about the future much anymore, as the aspect of it scared her slightly, Kat again changed the subject yet again. "So do you have a job? Or a boyfriend maybe?" she asked curiously with a little grin on her face.
