Miles Isley left his house bright in the afternoon holding a basketball for today's game went down by the park to meet with the other local boys. His best friend, Clyde stayed home instead of tagging along. Usually both boys did about everything, since Miles was almost like a brother to Clyde. Living with him for two years already after he got the boot from Drumstrang. Clyde was currently crushing on a girl who live next to them, so he wasn't to fuss about not having his brother come to play basketball with him. No he was okay with it.

Reaching the park entrance, Miles saw his friends right away. The boys were muggels, they were the one who taught Miles and Clyde how to play in the first place. That's how his love for the game began, it was enthralling and addictive sport. miles could play all the way to dusk of night, but after hours of working your bones you feel it by the next day. You'll get all sore and beat, that's what happen the first day, he work at his jump shoot to much that he had to stay in bed for like a day or two, before he went back out here. Miles greeted his friend, slapping them at the hand in their neat greeting. It was that time of the day, the boys split into teams right away and began their game. He was pick first out of the line up, it was fun being pick, just so you how much of a bad arse you was in basketball!

Rue was fed up of her nagging mother. It was supposed to be a holiday for them, yet she seemed to do nothing but moan about Rue's appearance or manners. She, as you could expect, was rather fed up by now, and needed to let off some steam, however it was. Rue had chosen a walk. The city streets of London were always crowded, and Rue, looking like a five year old, felt vunerable, but trying to keep herself composed, she walked through the hustling streets at waist height of everyone else, not even caring what they thought of her. They were all muggles, they wouldn't understand why she was so small, but she liked the idea of leaving them guessing anyway. Her Mother had warned her about the looks she would get in the Muggle world, but she enjoyed the attention. Rue seemed to have grown up to be quite an attention seeker, though not in front of other wizards or witches.

As Rue approached the corner of the street, she spotted a few guys, who looked about her age, though she certainly didn't look 16, and she slowly made her way towards them. Basketball.. She knew that sport, and enjoyed it, though obviously she always failed. It was a tough life for a part-goblin. Rue walked closer and closer towards the group before jumping up onto the bench to watch them. Her feet were a long way off the ground, and she swung them rythmically. She enjoyed watching other people having fun, it made her happy inside. Her heart felt warm and glowy. She could have sat there forever.

Miles height always been his downfall during the game. He was short like around 5'4, while the rest of the lots were taller and dunk well by using their length during the game. Did not stop him from getting any shots in, it merely gave him an advantage in some ways. he was faster and lot quick on his feet, he could shoot from three pointer line and his ratio 2:1, a good percentage of him making him than losing the shot. Go figure, a wizard oddly good at this sport.

Right int the mist of a heated game, he saw her climbing up the benches. The boy glance at her few times, before he concluded what he was seeing was real and not an illusion. The boy pause his away out of the game and went jogging at her direction. "Rue is that really you, or am I seeing another kid that may look like you?" he tease the girl, his way greeting someone he use to actually date when he was back in Drumstrang. "What are you doing here?" he reach the gate looking at the girl, she was small in height, that's why he use to call her short muffin, when they were dating that is. She still look the same, but it didn't seem wise to call your ex short muffin after he got booted out of their school.

Rue couldn't believe how stupid she had been to not notice Miles. 'Miles?' The shock in her voice was plainly obvious, and she didn't even try to hide it. She grinned, hopping off the bench and making her way over to him. He hadn't changed much since he'd been kicked out of Durmstrang, she thought, studying his face but trying not to stare. She probably hadn't changed much either, and she certainly hadn't grown. She giggled inwardly as she remembered what he'd used to call her. Short muffin.. She wasn't too sure why they had broken up, but she regretted it. 'Oh I'm here on holiday for a while. Wow it's so great to see you.. How've you been?' She asked, unable to stop smiling and feeling like a complete idiot.

Rue ran into the crowd of boys, swiftly grabbing the basketball. She knew how to play, despite the ball seeming extremely heavy and her height stopping her from shooting well, she could still get lucky and secretly use magic. Of course it wasn't allowed, but muggles weren't to know how she could get it through the net despite being so small. Bouncing her way to the net, she jumped and lobbed the ball into the air, controlling it to fall straight through the net, before grinning at Miles' friend's expressions as she threw it to him. 'Bet you didn't know I could play, huh?' She asked him teasingly. After playing for a short while, Rue was flustered, almost collapsing onto the bench again, yet she was grinning like an idiot. She beckoned Miles over, wanting to speak to him. She'd missed him a lot, and there was no denying it. She hoped he'd missed her too.

Miles stop where he was going, seeing Rue come over to him and join the crowd of boys in the basketball court. He was eagerly shock she even made an effort to come near him and his friends. "Well it's good to see you" he gave her a strange look, since when did she get so confident to do that?! There's a lot of change in her, not much physically except she look much older face wise, but still held the same form of innocent glow. "I've been alright and you?" he ask though she move on ahead and join the other boys, instead of wanting to chat she wanted to play!

He was shock, completely! She started playing with them and was way faster than Miles because she was small and she can shoot good too. The boys decided to let her play, though Miles ask while she wasn't listening to be easy, they agree. In the mind of the muggels, they saw Rue as a midget or had some form of disease where she stayed small and look young for her age. He smirk, that's a typical assumption coming from someone who knew nothing of their world. Poor saps, they played good but Rue played better. Miles came jogging back to her, they where by the benches, he offered up a bottle of water. "No I didn't you fool me like a sucker, what else you know how to do short muffin, except be cute and tiny? Huh?" he sat next to her mess with her blonde hair, the others boys resume the game without the two.

Rue couldn't hold back her chuckle as he called her short muffin again, and she gratefully took the bottle of water, swigging from it before passing it back to him. 'Tiny, yes, cute? Well I don't know about that', she said, laughing again and letting her messy blonde hair fall over her face. It had been brown when they had met, and she was surprised he'd known who she was from a distance. Mind you, she certainly was tiny, which was a bit of a giveaway.

Rue shrugged vaguley. She could do a lot of things, but she wasn't planning on showing him right now. When they had met, she had also been extremely shy, and the change in her was obvious. She was confident and flirty these days, and didn't care what people thought about her height at all. She was glad she'd bumped into Miles. The only reason they had split up was because he had moved away, which in her opinion was not a good enough reason. Sure, he'd been kicked out of school, but she still liked him. Very much. Blushing, Rue swept the hair out of her face to look at him again. 'Do you live here now?' She asked him.

Miles playfully scowled, how dare she doubt her awesomeness! Girls, he rolled his eyes at Rue, she was doubting her looks, he wasn't going to fuss. She will know she great in due time, it takes like growing up to make you different. The boy grab the water bottle and took a long swig and sighed in content. "Yeah it's a chitt load better being out here and Drumstrang, I hated it there. " Miles grimace. "Tell you the truth you were the only reason why I stuck around long, than that fight happen and me breaking inside the transfiguration classroom" he laughed, hilarious summon that memory. No way else he could put it, it was all his fault and it was his fault for breaking up with Rue. "To be truthfully honest, I didn't know where I was going to end up, my friend Clyde took me in and his family. He's not a muggel but he's homeschooled" he explain in scatter detailed, "How long will you be here?" he wonder away from the subject, his mind went on thinking right back at Rue.

Rue couldn't understand why Miles didn't like it at Durmstrang. It was a great school, and all of their memories lay there. Perhaps he didn't care. Rue's heart sank, though she did her best to hide it. She nodded along to eveything he said, not paying much attention until he asked her a question. 'I'm here for two weeks. This is my first day here', Rue paused, thinking carefully, 'My Mum wants to move here though', she said with a vague shrug. She'd love to live in England. It was a long trip to school now, and she could deal with that. She decided to pester her some time. If she thought it was worth it. 'I can't believe I bumped into you', Rue was grinning now as she watched Miles' friends play. She didn't trust her hand not to cling onto his, and so she sat on them, regretting it shortly afterwards when she got pins and needles. She couldn't help it. She still liked Miles, and she was sure he wouldn't still like her. They hadn't seen each other for at least a year. And Miles was awesome, he probably already had a girlfriend now. But Rue still wished thoughtfully.

"Oh, wow so you'll be moving here?" Miles question curiously. He saw she was acting weird around him, his eyes studying the small girl in front of him. If he hadn't pick it up quickly, he would say she was acting weird again, like crushing on him again. Miles smile, he like that feeling, it was like knowing her all over for the first time and she look antsy sitting on her hands. He laughed reaching over to take a hold of her small hand. "What's wrong? You look very uncomfortable sitting like that!" he ruffle her hair some. The boy hand fit like a puzzle with Rue, she was small but he was not that tall himself, but he like holding her. It felt great, bringing back faded memories....

'I could be!' Rue exclaimed happily, then adding quietly, 'I hope I will be anyway..' Rue gasped. He'd picked up that she was feeling awkward, and now she blushed, angry with herself but also a little pleased he had noticed. She untucked her hands from underneath her, giggling when he ruffled her hair. She there and then wanted to rest her head on his shoulder. She wanted him to put his arm around her and hold her. She missed him so much, but she had to let go. He had obviously moved on, even if she hadn't. She shrugged vaguely, gazing into the distance. She let her hand fall to the bench, palm up, just in case he wanted to take it. She wanted him to, but it felt uncomfortable, them being together again having been away for so long. She felt as though she had found something that had been missing from her life for a long time, the broken piece of her window had been carefully put back into place, and everything felt right. But there was no way she could possibly tell him this, was there? 'So..' Rue tried, attempting not to look into his eyes, 'Have you.. Uh.. How.. Um', Rue mentally kicked herself for being so stupid. Just ask him, stupid, she told herself fiercly, but the words didn't want to come out. 'How are you?', She asked dumbly. 'Well, not how are you, how have you been? Er, have you.. Met any girls recently? Uh, other than me of course'. You idiot!

"That's fantastic, now I have another place to visit when Clyde's snogging his girlfriend" he seize her hand in the bit of excitement. He felt his finger grip Rue's tugging her close to him, when she ask the question that she probably wanted to know the moment she saw him, yet had no guts to ask till she said by accident. He laugh, he found her stumbling over words adorable. Right out adorable, and cheeky. "No, I met a few. I didn't like any of them" he pulled her in more, kissing her lips. Kissing Rue, ugh nothing compare to that feeling of your stomach flipping over and your heart threatening to stop at every second. The sensation drove him up the brim, stumbling himself he asked, or more blurted out. "You want to be my girlfriend, I mean again?" he almost died asking her out!

Rue scowled cutely as he laughed at her, and then held in her gasp as he swiftly pulled her towards him, gently and caringly. She smiled as he told her, basically, he was single, and then, without warning, he pulled her closer and kissed her softly. Rue closed her eyes, the warmth of Miles' lips against his seeping through her body and making her feel alive. But something caused Rue to pull away, and she fiddled with the bottom of her t-shirt, looking down embarassedly. 'I.. I don't know, Miles, I mean I'd like that, but, uh..' Rue was holding his hands and wondering what to do. She hadn't seen him for 5 minutes and he was already kissing her. Sure, it was what she wanted, absolutely, more than anything in the world, which was why she couldn't understand her own doubts. This was exactly how she'd wanted this to be, but that was back when they were both in Durmstrang. You're not a child anymore, girl. Let it go, she told herself, and with that, she kneeled on the bench to make them the same height, snaked her arms around his neck, and began kissing him once again. Oh, how she'd missed him.

Miles was put out when she pulled back. She had doubts already and he just ask a very simple basic question. No blame came spewing at his part, he couldn't and wouldn't dare think she judge him or careless of Miles. That's one thing he erase from his mind, girls all girls were uncertain at this age. they were after mostly innocent, a few selective ones he would label wrong not Rue. "It's okay, i'm not asking you to marry me" he blushed. "if it's cause of the distant..." he went to say more, randomly she kissed Miles back. He felt her little arms curled round his neck and her lips reaching the boy right on his grin he pushed his lips out to kiss her on back.

It was innocent and so serene. He kissed her, causing major attention from the boys, they tease the newly couple. Miles paid no mind, what was more important was the small teenager name Rue.

Rue smiled as they kissed. I wish, she thought inwardly as the jeers from the group of boys got louder. One shouted something about Rue's height, but her smile simply widened. It was a sight, one person sitting, one kneeling on a bench to be the same height, and her knees had died, but she didn't care. She felt as though nothing else was important, except being close to Miles. She loved the warmth of his body against hers, and she pulled herself right up to him. Finally, she moved her head to his shoulder, exhaling deeply and pulling away, but keeping her hands on his. 'I'll persuade my Mum to move here', she said finally with a grin, looking down at their hands. So why did she fill with guilt when she thought about what she had just done? It wasn't the end of the world, but it felt important. Miles had been Rue's first kiss, back in Durmstrang. In fact, he was the only boy she had ever kissed. Did that mean something? Rue was confused and tired.

"Hey I bet none of you get girlfriends, why don't you go snogging on your pillows back home" he holler back a his friends. They all busted out laughing, Miles flip them a good view of the bird and went back staring at Rue. She persuade her mom to move here, nah he couldn't let her do that. "It's early again, meaning we just started. How bout i come to visit you often and than you can do the same? Than if your mom on her will decided to move here than yeah, I'd really really love to see you more. homeschooling blows for me, your like one of the many things I thought about when I left" he squeeze her hands, supporting her, he allowed her to lean in anyway she felt comfortable. "And I promise this time I will write" he meant it.

Rue doubted Miles' last words. He hadn't written before, even though he had promised then too. Rue didn't dare look into his eyes, still feeling guilty, yet she hadn't done anything. 'My Mum's been thinking about it for ages, so she probably will anyway. This is our second visit here and we're looking for a house...' She trailed off thoughtfully. 'I'm sorry I'm so...' Rue couldn't find the words, she just leant against him in defeat. She wanted to be a great girlfriend - Was she his girlfriend? She didn't even know, and she didn't known if she wanted to be classed as that just yet, either. Miles was great, but could she imagine ending up with him? She knew she was thinking too far ahead, but it was difficult. She intertwined her fingers with his, her hand a lot smaller, but she still managed it. Then Rue realized the word she had wanted to find. Pathetic. Miles was great. So what was wrong?

Miles mile. "Hey, relax hun. Don't think on it to much, if your doubting the beginning of this, it's okay. I am not hating" he stood up, letting go of her hand. He went to retrive his ball and said goodbye to his friends. "I'm going to go get a slice, you want in? There's this nifty place right down the street from here, slices for about pound and a half. My treat if you want to come" he invited Rue to tag along. The talk was getting to serious for his taste, he's not a serious kind of lad. He was more taking life easy and living as it's handed to you. If Rue made up her mind by the end of the day, than great he be all ecstatic about having her back. If not, there's little he could really do. He never want to force someone into anything if they didn't feel the need too, he's alright just being her friend too.

Rue smiled gratefully when Miles changed the topic. 'Sure, sounds good', she replied, hopping off the bench and struggling to keep up with his walking pace towards his friends. As he said goodbye, she swiftly jumped and grabbed the ball from his arms, grinning cheekily as she bounced it along for a little while before throwing it back. It felt great to just be hanging around with him - No serious stuff, just as good friends. The atmosphere was relaxed, and Rue smiled properly for the first time that day as they walked.

"Your short little muffin!" he ran after her laughing. "How the hell you know the sport anyways? You never told me you knew how to play? I was like completely shocked" they exit the court, leaving his other friends behind. The skies were grayish blue color, but not night. Still bright, though you could see the sun almost escaping the skies, it hid behind the building, they walk besides the old foundation. The building look abounded, no life came out of it. The bricks were old and flaking. He smile, this look like fix me up. He wanted so bad to fix building like this, it was like his dream. To learn to build and make something old to something new. It's a secret desire, Rue had no clue about that part of him, he never told anyone.

'I guess there's a lot you don't know about me', Rue said as they passed through the town, past old buildings, worn and bleak. Rue expected they had been loved, well used buildings once, but it was still a shame to see them so run down and unused now. Thin, wispy clouds settled in the sky, and Rue felt a single raindrop on her cheek, and she rubbed at it. 'It's raining', she said flatly, not happy or sad. Rain was a very strange thing, which brought new life, and yet people could hate it. She didn't understand. Walking along at elbow height of Miles, Rue pointed to the only cafe she could see. 'Is that it?' She asked, expecting to be wrong, but trying desperately to make conversation. She slipped her hand into his carefully as they walked. He looked like her older brother.

"Yeah I notice that" Miles replied, it was shame really that there was so much to know about her and he never really had the chance to see this side of her. "Maybe we can fix that? Now that your moving here?" he suggested. It sounded like a good idea, he wanted to have a friend or girlfriend, whichever she preferred he like to at least still have some form of connection with her. "Yup that's it" he took her hand, smiling, she look odd holding his hand. Rather funny, but he didn't care. Miles like being abnormal, boring when your a square. "It's a muggel cafe, so if your confused about it don't worry, oh and they have like a big screen television set that plays music video. Your going to like it" he grab the handle and let her go in, the place was small but lively.

Rue smiled as he led her into the cafe, and for once she was glad to be out of the rain. Soft music was playing on the tv, and Rue couldn't work out where it was coming from. Even so, she didn't need to know, it was nice that way. Rue found them a table with two chairs and sat herself down, putting her bag beside her. 'I think we could', she replied, smiling cheekily, and also unsure how these muggle cafe's worked, but she would gladly let Miles show her that. She ran a hand through her blonde, damp, windswept hair. 'I love it', she added simply, looking around the cafe once more. Everything seemed perfect, being with Miles, the music, the atmosphere.. And Rue was missing the feel of Miles' hand on hers, but she wasn't going to complain. There was still uncertainty in her though, as she wanted to be more than a friend of his, but she didn't know how to word it. 'Miles'.. She started, but then realized she sounded like she was giving bad news, so changed her tone of voice. 'Miles, I like you, a lot, but I was just hoping that maybe we could take things slowly, it's just... I've never had a boyfriend before', she admitted, turning pink.

Miles sat down, across from Rue, who was short and small, but she manage to reach the seat and sit herself properly well. He had like coming here for the slice of pizza and the soda pop special. Everything cost a pound and half for them, you couldn't beat that price anywhere else. "What? I think you forget we wen out last year?" his face twisted to a confused expression. "Or was just a friend thing?" Miles question Rue.

Rue gasped, suddenly realizing what she'd said. 'Oh! No, except you. I mean, you're the only one', she gabbled quickly, her eyes looking horrified. He'd thought she had meant they had only been friends in the past and nothing more, whereas in fact they had been the perfect couple. She shook her head, still a little shocked. 'I'm sorry', She said, not meeting his eyes, though she wasn't sure why she was so embarrassed. It was just a simple mistake. 'I wasn't very good at being a girlfriend. And I still don't have any more experience, that's all...' Rue trailed off, looking at her lap where her hands lay and trying not to fidget.

"Rue, your alright?" she was acting distracted and distant. He felt bad, maybe he was the one that was making her feel uncomfortable? You sort of know when it happens to you, it happen to him on several occasion. One time it happen when a girl had like him and Miles did not like her back. Than he got that vibe and his mind started thinking, perhaps she didn't like Miles like that no more. "Look if you don't like me no more, it's okay. I feel bad for putting you in such an awkward position" he stood up before she answered. He order their slice and pop, returning back to his seat he sat back down and gave Rue her slice and cool pop.

"And if you want to know the truth you was a good girlfriend. The best one I had" he dated before, noting in mind came serious besides her. It was serious, but serious fun and playful. That was the best part, every other girl just wanted to kiss and move a few steps ahead he wasn't quite ready to happen yet.
