Not the Wright Brothers but getting there...

Kaleb had taken his brother's broom(with permission and a lecture), one that was made in Bulgaria, and headed down to the quidditch pitch for a bit of flying. Kaleb was a bit talented when it came to flying, his only bad element was getting distracted by something and running into things. Like how he got his scar upon his arm from running straight into the house. Kaleb didn't like to dwell on that memory when he was living with his aunt, or rather, adopted sister of his late mother's. Kaleb was wearing his usual black shirk and jeans, along with a pair of his black boots. The air was ripe, and ready for flying, and he stepped onto the quidditch pitch.

Though what he did not want to see was Carmen dangling for her life from one of the hoops. Kaleb immediately shouted, "Carmen!" Kaleb quickly mounted his brother's Streak, and jumped into the air. Kaleb was flying once more, and at incredible speed. Kaleb was almost in a state of panic when he arrived at the hoops. He steadied the broom, and brought it close enough for Carmen to easily get onto the broom herself. Kaleb saw another person out of the corner of his eye. For now, Carmen was his main concern. Kaleb ordered, "Come on, before you fall!" Kaleb was extremely protective over his best friend, and losing her would be completely hell for him. First Alessine, and then his mother, but never in his life did he ever want to lose Carmen.

Carmen thought her arms could take no more, she had called out to Charlie but didnt know if he had heard her or not. She could feel her palms sweat and slide, so that she slipped an inch more than she wanted to. She gasped but didn't scream out in terror, as if this was not a lady like act and she all of a sudden had decided to remember her upbringing. As if out of nowhere she heard her name being called and her eyes closed instantly, it was Kaleb. The relief that washed over her was nearly as overwhelming as the feeling of terror she was experiencing. She had never been so high up and never in such a compromising predicament.
He flew up beside her, steadying his broom so that she could climb aboard. Very carefully she released one hand and put in across his shoulder as she leaned over the broom and straddled it. Once she knew she was going to be safe, she let go her other hand to clutch Kaleb as if he were life itself.
It was only then she realised how terrified she had been, she was shaking but as she put her arms about Kalebs waist and rested her head on his shoulder Carmen knew she felt safer here than at any other time in her entire life.

Charlie's concerntration was once again thrown off as he heard Carmen yell his name. It sounded paniced, Charlie halted to a stop and almost lost balance on his broom. Looking back he saw Carmen dangling from a hoop. His eyes went wide and he turned his broom as fast he could. He had never been faced with a situation where he had to help someone before, it was scary and Charlie completely panicked.

On his way to Carmen, he noticed another broom shoot out of nowhere and scoop her up. Charlie continued making his way over, but his movements slowed as he watched Carmen clung to the boy with dear life. He approached them and blinked, his heart still racing after the panic that Carmen might have been severly hurt. "Carmen, are you okay?" He said, realising his voice was slightly breathy.

Kaleb felt relieved when she had successfully climbed over to him. His hands went to hers around his waist, and he smiled gratefully that she was with him, and not harmed. Kaleb felt the head upon the shoulder, and he murmured, "You are all right now." However, now, to deal with the stupid person to even allow her to be near the predicament. Kaleb turned the broom, his hands still on Carmen's, and stared at the boy who asked if she was okay. Kaleb folded his arms across his chest, having perfect balance on his broom, as being a Quidditch player in his blood.

His blue-gray eyes darkened, as he glared at the other boy. Kaleb stated, "She is fine now. What the bloody hell were you thinking to put her life in harm's way?" Kaleb was reacting on a cloud of mixed emotions. He was clearly not happy, and it was obvious that he was still getting over the panic. Kaleb waited for a response, though he did have a right to be angry. Not everyone wants to see their best friend hanging on to a hoop while many feet off the ground.

Carmen had never been so terrified in all her life, even sitting safely on the back of Kaleb's broom didn't altar the fact that she was still shaking from the experience. He was holding her hands that were wound round his waist and if it weren't for this she thought she would probably fall off. She could not lift her head or open her eyes to look at Charlie. Carmen was still in a state of shock, she could hear the panic in her friends voice and could hear the anger in her best friends voice but her state of mind made her incapable of defending one from the other. Instead all she could do was hold Kaleb tighter and hope to Merlin that he would land his broom soon so she could get her feet down onto solid ground.

Charlie furrowed his brow as the boy glared at him. He hadnt meant to let Carmen fall. Why would he want that? He hadnt played a part in this in any way except agree to go flying with Carmen. The boys accusations were unreasonable. "Look mate, I didnt exactly push her off her broom, it wasnt my fault this happened. It doesnt even matter, she is safe now and that is all that matters." Charlie said, allowing a flare of his anger at being wrongly accused to reach his voice. His eyes went from the boys cold ones to Carmen who looked terrified. "You should get her on the ground." Charlie said, as he turned his own broom and headed back to the ground. He breathed out a shaky breath, never thinking he could have been so worried about someone in all his life.

Kaleb sneered, but what he uttered was in Bulgarian, "You simpleminded mudblood." Though it was too low for Carmen's ears to hear, for all she probably would hear was mumbling. Rolling his eyes, he stated, "I am just going to do that." Still with arms folded, the broom lowered at a reasonable speed so that Carmen wouldn't panic. Kaleb was ticked, and was blind to see that he was accusing the boy of something that wasn't even him to blame. Kaleb glanced behind him, and said in an adoring voice to Carmen, "Everything is fine now, you can get off the broom." He was hovering just above ground, and he patted her hands reassuringly. Kaleb glared once more at the boy, his hands into fists.

Carmen could barely register what was being said except for when he told her that it was alright to get off the broom. Part of her didn't want too and held to him a moment longer but she knew herself that she had to climb down. Once she did she felt as if her legs were made of jelly, she wobbled as if they were going to give out beneath her.
"Kaleb" her voice was low and exhausted now. The experience had ravaged her of all her energy, she simply needed to get back to Slytherin and lye down. She put her hand out to steady herself, hoping she would find some contact as she felt the world about her turn dark.

Charlie touched the ground and climbed off his broom. He held it in his palm tightly, noting vaguely that his knuckles were turning white from the pressure of his grip. He stood staring in the opposite direction of the two, not being able to identify the emotions he was feeling. Charlie decided he was going to put his broom back in the shed and leave. Carmen didnt need him anymore, not when that other guy was with her. No one ever needed Charlie, how foolish of him to think it otherwise.

His brow was still furrowed, he turned sharply and began walking in long strides (which werent actually all that long considering how short Charlie was) to the broom cupboard. He slowed slightly when walking past them, seeing Carmen look unsteady. Charlie heard her say one word... Kaleb. It then clicked to Charlie that this was the guy that Charlie was meant to visit her home with. It seemed like that wasnt going to be happening anymore. Charlie almost stopped as he saw her faint, but her grip on this, Kaleb kept him walking.

Kaleb dismounted the broom, however, he glanced to Carmen to see if she was all right. His eyes widened in terror when he saw her faint. Kaleb managed to catch her in time before she hit the ground. Kaleb glared at the walking guy. Did he not care for her? It didn't matter to him now. Kaleb bent down to get a steady grip on his best friend, and using the adrenaline rush he was receiving, lifted her into his arms. Kaleb thought frantically, Oh damn, this can't be happening. Kaleb wondered if he should take her to the hospital wing, his father's office, or Slytherin Common room. Deciding on the last one, he carried her toward the castle, praying to the higher heavens that she would be all right, and that kid would get what was coming to him.

Carmen blinked slowly feeling herself being carried, she opened her eyes and looked up at Kaleb. She groaned, embarrassed when she realised she had fainted.
"Kaleb, I can walk. You can put me down now" she told him, her soft voice sounded more gentle than ever before. Her head rested against his chest and though she felt so safe there, she didn't want him to get embarrassed or end up in that stupid gossip magazine because of her. Her arms hurt slightly from hanging on for her dear life and still couldn't believe that Kaleb had come to her rescue the way he had.

Kaleb was to the castle doors when she groaned. He stopped walking and stared down at her worriedly. Sighing, he chuckled amusingly, "As if." However, not wishing to go against her word, he gently set her on her two feet, but kept a hand on her waist in case she were to fall again. Kaleb didn't like the fact that she almost got hurt by flying, but he thanked his brother for letting him borrow the broom this one time. Jaken would be heading down himself to the pitch for some flying, so surely the broom would be okay there.

When she realised where she was now Carmen smiled as she looked up at him after he placed her gently on the ground.
"You carried me all this way?" there was wonder and gratitude in her voice, she could feel the heat of his arm through her clothing and felt the greatest urge to simply want to stay in his arms but knew that was a stupid thing to yearn for. They were bestfriends and he had simply been coming to the aid of his. Nothing more than that. She looked about her and realised there was no sign of Charlie.
"Where .. where did Charlie go?" had he gone for help as she had asked, she smiled sweetly Charlie must have gotten a terrible fright seeing her dangling there.

Charlie placed his broom back in the shed and came out to stand against the shed wall, watching as Kaleb carried Carmen back up to the school. He sunk down the wall and sat on the floor, a sulky look on his face. He had completely messed everything up. He should have followed them back up to the school and made sure Carmen was okay. But he couldnt bring himself to do it. The look on Kaleb's face still burned into his skull. That guy didnt want to see Charlie around Carmen again. He guessed Carmen probably wouldnt want to talk to him either. He watched as they stopped at the steps, Charlie just wished they would go already, so he could walk back up and hide away somewhere. And it wouldnt be the Slytherin Common Room this time.

Kaleb smiled at Carmen, and responded, “Yes, I did. Got to love the adrenaline rush.” After seeing that she was good enough to stand on her own, he removed his hand from her waist, and simply stared at her with his concerned, yet relieved blue-gray eyes. He wanted to hold her again, to make sure that she was safe, but he assumed that it was from the panic he had felt earlier. Kaleb heard the last part, and looked around. Of course, he was no where in sight. Kaleb sighed, “Charlie left. He didn’t get help. He just…left.” Kaleb was a little upset over this, and it did not show in his eyes. He put up his acting like a stable boy on rather than allowing her to know his immediate dislike for the boy.

Carmen smiled up at him when he replied that he had carried her all the way. She rubbed her upper arms slowly, they ached something awful still.
"You're my hero then twice over" her smile was bright and warm, her heart felt elated that he had gone to so much trouble over her but the elation was short lived when he told her that Charlie had simply left. She looked away from Kaleb with utter confusion on her face.
Charlie had left her there? He hadn't gone for help? She couldn't comprehend this at all, had she really so drastically misjudged his character then? Carmen had thought Charlie would have tried to help her without hesitation, she would have for him without a doubt. She pulled at a few strands of her hair and began to curl it around her fingers.

"I guess I was lucky you came by then" she recalculated that statement and realised that if Kaleb hadn't come and rescued her she would surely have fallen to her ... she didn't even want to contemplate it. She looked up at Kaleb, he was so much more than her bestfriend now, he really was the hero she had called him moments before. She took a tentative step forwards to him and leaning her head up very softly and gently kissed his cheek. As she stepped back again she smiled up once more.
"Thank you Kaleb".

Kaleb glanced down at her arms, and assumed that they were just sore. After all, she was hanging on for dear life. That alone made him shudder on the inside. Kaleb smiled, “It wasn’t heroics. It was just me coming out onto the pitch and reacting on instinct and panic.” Kaleb though was thankful that he did not freak out and run off. He actually went through with his actions, and that alone was rather awesome of him. Kaleb could only smile, just now getting over his panic.

Kaleb sighed, “You are lucky. I don’t even know what would have happened if I didn’t show up.” Kaleb did not realize that he was making Charlie seem like the coward. Kaleb just saw things from his perspective. Charlie did not assist in carrying her to the castle. He did not do anything to help. So, Kaleb could not stand the kid. Kaleb was taken aback by the kiss on the cheek. Kaleb blushed slightly, but it was hardly noticeable. Kaleb smiled warmly, “No problem. Just stay away from flying unless I’m there.” Kaleb opened the doors to the castle, and said, “I’m going to the common room. I say we go together.”
