Open No Time Like the Present

Minnie didn’t know how her parents had found out about the valentines day ball, but they had. It hadn’t therefore been a particularly pleasant holiday for her, with the lapse in her studies for that evening she’d spent there, and the fact that she had lied to them, her parents had decided that she needed to wake up earlier every day and spend more time revising at home. After a few weeks, Minnie had grown so frustrated with it that she had screamed loudly at her parents regarding it. The resulting argument had spanned much of the evening and in the end Minnie hadn’t exactly won, but her parents had gone back to the old schedule, which had her getting up later - still early but later. It had been frustrating for Minnie, the words of Eric whose mother only expected him to not get expelled lingered in her mind. She had gotten perfect grades, she was on the quidditch team, she was a part of several clubs, she worked hard, she could manage a few celebrations. She was so tired of her parents controlling every single part of her hogwarts life, she had decided in part to not do it as much. She’d go back to her own schedule, she’d go to the events if they wanted her to or not, wouldn’t care if they found out. She’d even the day before school had started back, had gotten her hair cut, making it shorter and less of the style that her parents had said they wanted for her. However, in all of these changes, if she didn’t show that with her own schedule that she couldn’t also still get perfect grades her parents would win, so despite it being the first morning, and with everyone else spending time with their friends, Minnie was by herself at the edge of the table, food and plates pushed away, books open and it was clear she was studying hard. ​
