Delilah smiled as she took another bite of the cookie she had been picking at for the past few minutes as Hester told her a story. Agreeing to go to the ball with the Gryffindor had been a last minute decision and she had been nervous about it. She had been worried about what her friends would say but they were both busy with their own dates that she doubted they were even sparing her a second thought. She had only been to the ball with a date when it had been part of Heta's blind date event and that had been years ago. She also wasn't entirely sure if this was an actual date or not. They hadn't really talked about it and she wasn't about to ask now in the middle of the great hall. But she was glad to have company.

Hester had spent far more time than she liked to admit thinking about Delilah over the last few years. She had been absolutely convinced that romance wasn't for her, and then the Ravenclaw had hit her brain like a train with no brakes and she had had to reconsider that conviction all at once. And now here she was - on an actual date with Delilah. She had spent longer on her appearance than she had since Brooke had stopped coaching her, and done her best not to be nervous as she joined Delilah at the dance. Tried being the operative word. She was doing her best to keep her head, but glancing at the expression on the Ravenclaw's face Hester realised abruptly that she had been going on and on about her brother's stupid broken leg without even pausing, babbling away out of nerves. "Sorry." She laughed a little awkwardly, cutting herself off mid-story. "Easy to keep talking once you've started, you know? How's the biscuit?" She asked, unable to quite kill the momentum. "They look good, do you like those ones?"

Delilah blinked and looked at Hester as she apologized. She wasn't really sure why the other girl was saying sorry at all. Delilah liked when Hester talked. It was easy to just listen and she could feel herself relax without the pressure to think of some kind of clever response. It wasn't like talking to Brooke or Ivy where she had to think of her every word carefully. She could just sit and eat a cookie and enjoy herself. "Oh, it's good." she said, still a little confused. "Do you want some?" Delilah asked and without waiting for an answer she broke off a corner and held it out for Hester.
