Avie Mitchell had been having a strange time at this term, he was doing a lot of things that he hadn't thought he would do. Avie had hugged the head of his house, and well, he thought it was pretty harmless, everyone else had different ideas about what it had been. He'd been instructed to not do such a thing, he had been told that he had guts, and he had been told that he couldn't be so reckless. It left Avie in a bit of a pickle, the more he thought of it, the less he thought the man was actually grumpy, he just thought he was nice but that it was hidden under all those layers. All of the layers that had been caused by the darkness of Slytherin dungeons, and just not enough hugs. But he'd been instructed so many times that this was crazy. He simply refused to believe that Professor Styx was actually that grumpy. All this confusion for the boy had led to him doing what he loved most in the world. Swimming in the lake. Ever since his cousins had in part destroyed little bits of his rock collection he had been meaning to get the rocks back, find new ones, but unfortunately for him this had proved difficult because it had been so cold lately. Which wasn't the kind of swimming weather. That and he had been making many new friends and trying out for the quidditch team, he'd been busy. He was diving down as far as he could and getting a handful of rocks, before going back to shore and placing them with the rest of his belongings. He had been doing this for a good two hours before he began to grow tired, and his body had just become numb from all the cold of the lake.

It was as he carried another handful of rocks to his little collection that he decided enough was enough for that day. So, he took the time to get dressed again, having gone swimming in a pair of old shorts, but no t-shirt. It turned out to be a fairly hard task because his fingers were so numb. He shook himself as dry as he could before putting on the dry clothes. Which consisted of his jeans and his large thick Slytherin jumper. He was shivering slightly, and his eyes and nose were running pretty badly. He packed away his swimming gear, or his make shift swimming gear back into his bag, after having rung them out. He didn't have much else in his bag, just his wand and some tissues, both of which he put in his pockets. He didn't want them getting wet. He took the time however to wipe his nose and eyes with one of the dry tissues before stuffing the used one into the bag with the others. He glanced up at the sky, and noticed that it was very quickly clouding over, he needed to get himself to somewhere where he'd be dry. Which in end, looked like it was either the forest or the school. Not really wanting to head back up to the school just yet, he put his rucksack on and then grabbed all of the rocks that he could and in a short sprint headed into the forest. He didn't venture that deeply, but as he stepped towards the outskirts, he noticed a little more to the side, a boy who was looking into the forest, Avie took a few steps closer and realised that it was Mason. "M..Mason!" Avie called to him, stumbling slightly over his words due to the fact he was shivering. He also sniffed loudly, and then raised a hand to the boy to call him over, but in doing that caused almost all of the rocks he had collected to fall to the floor. "Sh!t" he just managed to get out despite his chattering teeth, before bending down to try and salvage what he could of two hours work.

Mason Greene dressed in his Hufflepuff uniform, looking like he was about to go off on an adventure. And he sure was! Mason looked around the castle for ages, trying to find something to do, but he did not find a single thing. He thought about joining the Quidditch team, but he was unsure of what position he wanted to play. There were seven, but he just did not know what. He was very indecisive. Then again, with his clumsy nature, he probably should not even try out. He might accidentally hurt someone by mistake. And that was something that he would prefer to avoid if he could. Mason looked around the castle some more, before finally settling on just leaving here and going off to the lawns to find something else to do. There had to be something or someone that he could bump into at some point today. He looked around as he thought about what he was going to do. The thoughts continued in his head, and at some point, he thought about getting his brother out there to come with him to go swimming. But, without someone else, swimming did not appeal to him at all.

His brown eyes rested on the very thing that he thought that he wanted to do today. He wanted to see into the forest! Not go into it, but see it. It was a little chilly, but because of the environment that Mason was used to while he was growing up, somehow, the weather did not bother him as much. Sure, he felt cold and hot, but he didn't feel it as much. He tugged on his robes and he took a step closer to the line of trees that beckoned him inside. It was almost as if it were calling his name. Wait, that wasn't the forest that said his name! He looked around to see that someone indeed said his name. It was Avie! "Avie! Whatcha doing out he-" he paused his sentence when he noticed that the Slytherin boy was struggling with some rocks. From what he knew, Avie really had himself a collection of rocks. Mason would have loved to collect things while he was growing up, but he did not ever have much to collect at all. He didn't let anyone know that though. "Here! Let me help you!" Mason practically dove down to the ground to scoop up the new rocks that Avie found. It was almost easy to tell that they were not from this area. The colors didn't match.

Avie had heard his friend Mason call back to him, but it had been in that moment just before that he'd caused the rocks to fall to the ground. Avie groaned slightly, but wiped his nose quickly with his sleeve. Getting to the floor to find the rocks that he had dropped. He took the bag which was firmly on his back off and quickly put the rocks he had not dropped into the front pocket. Placing it at the side open to place the rocks back in. He looked as Mason got down to the ground to help Avie collect his rocks. He smiled happily at this, glad for the company that the other boy was offering. Even if as he was looking that there were some that had probably travelled too far and that he wouldn't get back. But, he was glad regardless. "Thanks, Mason" he told the boy through chattering teeth. Perhaps, he realised that it hadn't been the smartest thing to swim in the lake at this time of year. Because Avie could feel his entire body shivering, the clothes all too slowly providing him with warmth. Avie was annoyed that he didn't have more with him, but honestly clothes like that had been on the back of his mind. He had just wanted more rocks, and with the kind of thought process that Avie had it wasn't hardly surprising that instead of thinking about after he'd finished swimming that more layers would be a good idea. His fingers were numb, only beginning to warm, so he was having a little trouble with picking up the rocks.

"How've you been?" He asked Mason, spending a good amount of time thinking over his words and taking care to say them correctly. He didn't want to end up stuttering because of how he was cold. He stopped picking up the rocks and shoved his hands into his pockets. Letting himself sit down on the ground and curl slightly into himself. "I went swimming, and the lakes a little cold" he explained to Mason. He glanced around the around where they were, and wondered if deeper in the forest it would be better. If it would be warm. He wasn't sure if that would be such a thing, but at least at this point he was half even considering going back into the castle. But, no, he was with Mason, and he wanted to do something with Mason. Have a little bit of fun, like last time. "Mason, you remember we talked about how grumpy Styx was, because he was always in the dungeons," Avie gave a little smile, wondering if maybe he'd heard about it, though he wasn't sure how he could've. "We said that a hug would maybe help him. And I did it. I hugged him. I think it worked a little." Avie smiled grew at his words. Almost like that was the tada of what he'd been saying. He felt a little warmer now, clearly sitting and getting excited about something had helped. "You don't need to worry about the rocks," Avie added, "I can always go back to the lake later" he nodded at mason with a smile. "Why you in the forest?"

Mason was certainly glad to have helped out his good friend, Avie, the soul collector of rocks. He would never understand collections, but hell, he never had anything valuable to him to collect. He was gracious enough to have good food on his plate while growing up. He still wondered what the Slytherin boy was doing out here. He had to be cold! Mason was feeling a little chilled but that was it. He smiled when Avie thanked him, since that was a nice gesture in of itself. "I've been pretty well. Staying with my uncle is amazing! He is a nurse here too, Lucius Verdelet! I never would have thought that I had family..." Mason paused for a moment before adding, "here." He had to protect his past, says Matt. He could hear Matt yelling at him for accidentally revealing, but maybe Avie wouldn't catch it. Mason did have family, but he never knew them. "What about you, Avie?" He had seen some kid, a Slytherin, leering at him from time to time, but Mason never knew what that was all about. Then again, Mason was often so far into the clouds, he never knew what happened in the surroundings.

"A little cold? Avie, you could catch pneumonia! You need a nurse and pronto!" Mason said that, with intention of dragging the boy to the Hospital wing, but he changed his mind. He didn't want to force Avie to go anywhere he didn't want to. Mason recalled, as per Avie's suggestion, about how he remembered that Styx was grump, and that a hug would help him. And Avie hugged him. Mason's eyes opened extremely wide, and said that it might have worked a little. Mason didn't know any better, but he didn't see much of a difference in Styx's attitude. But, he wasn't around him as often as the Slytherins were. "Really? Oh god, wow, that is amazing! Maybe it will make his classes easier!" Mason was still too scared to even think about hugging the man. "I dunno, I just wondered off and came here. I heard there are some wicked cool things in here, but it says forbidden for a reason. I'm conflicted." Mason was telling the truth on that one. He was really conflicted about this place, and didn't know why he was. He just was!
