Hello HNZ!

A little while ago, I finished work on the most recent tweak to the gradebook: a feature which allows professors to select required items for their classes third year and above. We have since activated the feature to coincide with the end of Y20 in preparation for the start of Y21.

Students will see the required items for classes on the add/drop page when they try to register, and each item they don't have will be a link to the shop system page for that item so they can buy it. You will not be able to enrol in a class until your inventory contains all items that a professor has listed as required for their course.
As with prerequisite grades for upper year classes, a professor is able to waive these requirements and enrol students into their classes if need be/on a case-by-case basis.

We think this is a good way for us to revive and enforce something that has been around on the site forever in required materials/books for classes that so many people never see or think about when they're going through things on HNZ.

If you have any questions or concerns about this change please don't hesitate to let us know!

~Nick

As a slight update on this while students try to enrol in classes for semester 1 (some of which will now have prerequisite supplies) - when the add/drop page tells you that you must have a certain item, the item name is a link to the shopping system where you can purchase the item.
Unfortunately people used the shopping system so infrequently that there has been an error there, apparently, where when you search for an item the purchase link doesn't work. This has since been fixed. (And I'm glad this gradebook change will be making people finally buy some items and use their galleons. ;) )
