Felix hadn't known whether or not to dress up for Halloween, because it was likely he was going to get spotted by his sister who would probably humiliate him no matter what he went as. Therefore, he opted for the next best thing; hiding in plain sight. A simple bed sheet with eye holes poked in it offered the easiest costumed he'd ever made, and perhaps it wouldn't have been up to Wendall's standards, he was proud of himself for finding a way to get here when no one knew who he was.

After Demi had stepped on his sheet near the food table, Felix had wandered off in the hopes of keeping out of everyone else's way. Stood just outside the Great Hall, the ghost watched as the other guests were having a fun night, coming and going in costumes of their own, and for Felix this meant he could safely observe his newest classmates.

There was a lot happening at the Halloween feast and it all made Esme feel a little overwhelmed. She had lost Imogen shortly after they both arrived at the feast, she wasn’t sure where her sister had got off to but she was sure she had made friends of her own, she didn’t need Esme anymore. Esme hadn’t been as lucky, she liked the girls in her dorm and considered them friends but they too had other friends and people to spend time with, it left Esme alone quite often.

After nursing a drink for a while and eating a little, Esme figured she would just be better off leaving and letting everyone else have fun. She walked out to the entrance hall and spotted a boy on his own, she thought she recognised him as a fellow Gryffindor and smiled awkwardly at him. “hi, was it too much for you too?” She wondered.

Felix had thought he was more or less invisible since he was head to toe dressed in his white bedsheet, all except for a couple of eye holes he'd made to see out of. That was, until Esme came up to him to ask if he'd been finding Halloween all a bit much too. Under the sheet, his eyebrows rose, and he wondered whether she knew who he was after all. The only thing she could have seen was his eyes, and while Felix knew her name from classes and the common room, he'd never realised Esme knew him well enough to know who he was just from the colour of his eyes. Of course, maybe she was just making a lucky guess and it didn't matter who she was talking to, but he liked to think it was the former. "I..yes," It wasn't. But if Esme was going to come and talk to him then he was more than willing to be whoever she needed him to be. She was pretty and she was sweet, and that was enough for the twelve-year-old to want to impress her. Most people didn't even give him a second glance when he wasn't covered in a sheet, let alone someone who went out of his way to acknowledge his presence. "There's a lot of.. people," Felix was grasping at straws, although remembering how he felt the day of sorting, that was how he felt. Like a million eyes were staring at him at once and he just wanted to hide. "You look nice," he added, eyes flicking up and down at his classmates costume.

Esme wasn’t sure if Felix actually felt the same as she did or if he was just agreeing with him. She didn’t really mind either way, it was just nice having someone to talk to. So far, Hogwarts had proved quite lonely for her despite the friends she had made. She had hoped that she would meet a best friend, someone she would be inseparable from, all the stories she had heard from family members seemed to include that kind of relationship, she wanted that for herself. “Thank you,” Esme blushed, “You look scary,” She said encouragingly, that was the point of Halloween wasn’t it? “You are Felix right? From Gryffindor? She’d be really embarrassed after starting talking to the boy she had got the wrong person. ”If not your eyes are identical,“

It was a good job that Felix was covered up by the bed sheet so that Esme couldn't see his cheeks flushing bright red at her compliment. "Thank you!" It had taken him a little bit of time to measure where to cut the holes, not to mention p**sing off Professor Cade again when he found out he'd vandalized his bed sheets. "Yes I am!" How on earth had Esme figured that out by his eyes alone? She must have known him very well and looked at him more than he'd realised if she could tell. "And you're Esme aren't you? Not Imogen," Felix leaned in a little closer to the twin. He could tell, and not just because it was more likely his housemate knew him instead of the Slytherin he'd never spoken to. For a moment, Felix wondered who his eye twin was, but then he realised it didn't matter, not when Esme was busy looking at his. The Gryffindor whipped the sheet off from over his head, hanging it around his shoulders instead before grinning at the blonde. They were far enough away from most people that others in the room weren't paying them any attention, and Felix wanted to make the most of the pretty girl noticing him. "Do you.. want to go outside? We could try kissing if you want?" Felix offered kindly.

It wasn’t a surprise to Esme that Felix wanted to double check which twin he was talking to. Even being able to see all of her face, partially obscured by face paint but still, having an identical twin did make it hard for people to know it was her right off the bat. “Yes, I am Esme,” She smiled at him and was relieved when he removed his sheet so she could see his face, it was much easier to talk to him when his face wasn’t covered and he was much nicer to look at when his face wasn’t covered. “You want to k…kiss me? Outside?” Esme thought about the proposition for a moment, it wasn’t something she had expected to happen so soon at Hogwarts, maybe even ever. “Could we do it inside instead?”

If Esme was going to say no to his enticing offer, she would have said it right then and there right? Instead, she asked Felix if they could stay inside instead and so the smile that grew on the first years face was out of pure excitement. "Of course of course!" He said quickly, he'd do whatever she wanted him to if it meant he got the chance to kiss her. It had admittedly been a spur-of-the-moment suggestion, but how was he meant to resist? "We can just do it here if you prefer?" Felix didn't mind that there were other people around, but he was proud of himself for giving Esme the chance to kiss him away from watchful eyes, too.

Esme was glad Felix was open to staying where they were. If they went outside in search of privacy or comfort she was worried she might lose her nerve, or he might lose interest while they were looking. Maybe a prettier girl would come along and Felix would want to go and kiss her instead. “Here is fine,” She smiled as him and walked closer to him, her heart pounded in her chest as she had no idea what to expect. Kissing was just pressing lips together right? She’d seen grownups do it before but she was usually hurried away when she was spotted. She didn’t know if anything came after that she needed to know about. “Have you…have you done this before? I don’t know much about it,”

Felix nodded, watching as Esme moved a little closer toward him and he did the same, facing her because he thought it would be awkward to try and kiss her sideways. "No, I haven't. Have you?" he asked her, wondering how weird it was going to be. He would have liked to have been more prepared, but he supposed the best way of learning sometimes was just to get stuck in and see what happened. He'd never seen his dad or Ten kiss anyone before, and usually, Leda and Mervyn only ever kissed each other on the forehead, which meant the main role models he had to work with were Wendall and Mary-Lou. He rested one hand on Esme's arm, trying to not let on how awkward he was suddenly feeling. "I think, we should close our eyes when we do it," he explained, closing his own "and then.. just," Felix leaned a little closer, puckering his lips so that she had a landing zone.

Esme shook her head softly when he asked if she had ever kissed anyone before. She’d seen it done briefly, but before coming to school she mostly spent time with family. When would she have? “Oh, okay,” Did he want to close his eyes because he thought she was ugly? She’d just go along with whatever he wanted, it was his idea after all. He leaned closer to her and puckered his lips so she knew exactly where to aim for, she did the same with her lips and leaned forward and pressed them to his.

Felix didn’t know what kissing was going to be like, but that’s exactly why they were practising. It felt funny but it wasn’t terrible, and even though the Gryffindor knew he wasn’t the best, he was still proud of himself for not accidentally biting her or something. His mind was racing a million miles an hour, but he felt something he could only describe as pride as he realised this was what it must have been like to enter into a new part of his life. He was no longer a child, he had a real girlfriend, and he was at a party, kissing her. He moved a little closer, not wanting to break the moment they shared.

Esme wasn’t sure how she felt about the kiss, she wasn’t sure how it was supposed to feel. Was it nice? She didn’t have any reference but it wasn’t unpleasant. She didn’t really know what this meant for the two of them, adults who kissed were usually together, though it wasn’t unusual for her mother to kiss someone and then never see them again, so she didn’t know what to think. When Felix moved closer she wasn’t sure what else to do, she looked up at him, opening her eyes after the kiss and smiled at him. “Did you uhm, did you want to do it again?”
