Open after Jess posts with Allison

Ryan had been surprised to find his conversation with Allison, while suspicious, had provided plenty of inspiration for some avenues to pursue in his werewolf hunt. He still thought Allison was a little cagey, and while his werewolf suspect list wasn't very long, she was definitely high up on it. But it wasn't often he found other people willing to join him on his experiments or passion projects, and what better way to confirm she wasn't a werewolf than by having her join his stake out?

Assuming she actually did join him, he supposed. Ryan hadn't been crouched in his little corner of the entrance hall for too long, but it'd taken him a little longer than he'd expected getting down here from the Towers. His assumption his night vision would be sharp enough with the light from the full moon had been incorrect and he'd gotten quite turned around somewhere on the 5th floor. Still, he'd made it eventually, finding the spot he and Allison had picked up with ample view of the front doors so they could hopefully catch any werewolves trying to slip out for tonight's transformation. Or perhaps even slipping back in.

((Edit: OOC: any professor can catch them. If you decide to jump in, please mention an anonymous tipoff about students being there. I don't want to limit this to whoever I happen to catch to ask, I just want Allison to have told someone where they were))

Allison had to be extra careful doing this. Thomas couldn't catch her again; she shuddered to think what would happen if he might. But she didn't have a choice. No matter what happened to her, she had to protect Stanis. He was hers, she was never going to let anything bad happen to him ever again. Not if she could stop it. She snuck out, very careful, before slowly, slowly making her way up to Ryan. She didn't say a word, sliding her hand onto his shoulder to announce her presence, raising a finger to her lips to shush him. She knelt down, finding a good vantage point, and peeked out. She already knew they wouldn't find anything. But that was half of the point of this.

Ryan adjusted his glasses, briefly wondering if he could he could charm them to let him see in the dark when someone touched his shoulder, causing him to jump. He gave Allison a begrudging nod when he registered it was just her and not some werewolf that had managed to sneak up on him, torn between annoyance that she'd scared him and being glad that she'd actually ended up coming. This would be a lot easier with two pairs of eyes.

"No sign of anyone yet, but we might have to wait till they come back closer to dawn," he told Allison in a hushed whisper, admittedly half to test how seriously she was invested in this idea just to get back at her for scaring him. "I guess they'd probably have slipped out before moonrise or something. Maybe even before dinner. We should keep an eye out for anyone missing dinner on full moons," he added thoughtfully, almost forgetting to whisper as he mulled it over.

Allison quickly held a finger to her lips to shush Ryan for talking too loud, offering him a bottle of water. "We better settle in, then," she breathed, settling down on the floor and scooting to a point where she could see properly. She didn't look to Ryan, expecting that he would sit with her when he was ready. "It's a big school, maybe we should start with the later years?" She asked. "If we focus on a year at a time we might be able to notice patterns easier,"

Ryan took the water mutely, trying not to feel too disgruntled by Allison shushing him. It was a familiar gesture to him at least, but it did take away from him feeling like he was the one in charge of this stakeout. Especially since she was late and all. Her suggestion wasn't a terrible one though, and Ryan pondered it for a moment as he stared at the Entrance Hall door. "Yeah maybe. A seventh year werewolf might be harder to catch, but at least we could vet everyone before they graduate and we miss them," he said pensively, making a point to match Allison's whisper.

Their hushed tones seemed to have been needed though, because it wasn't long after Ryan had spoken that he heard someone coming down the stairs. "Down," he whispered urgently, trying to tuck himself into the darker shadows of the hall and hope whoever it was might pass them by.

Allison nodded, pleased her plan was working. Now she could only hope the rest of her plan worked. Her heart skipped a beat when Ryan told her to get down, shrinking back into the shadows. Her heart felt like it was in her throat. She wanted to run, but she needed to stay close to Ryan. She stared, eyes wide, trying to make out who was coming in the darkness. Do not let this by the night I catch you, wolf boy, or I will end you.

The owl had been unexpected, clattering to the window frame not long after dinner and nearly scaring the daylights out of Elliot. It was unsigned, and Elliot had spent half the time leading up to the time mentioned in the note wondering if it was some elaborate prank. He could think of a few people who might think it was funny to mess with him, head boy or not. But it didn't cost him anything to at least go check it out, and Elliot tried to stifle a yawn as it got late enough for him go check on his anonymous tipster's insistence that there'd be some rule breaking in the entrance hall tonight.

He'd been so convinced it was a hoax that it was actually a surprise to see someone lurking in the shadows as he stepped down off the staircase, raising his lit wand and squinting into the gloom. He might have missed them if he hadn't been looking for them. "Hey, who's over there?" He called, stepping closer and hoping whoever it was wouldn't run off. Elliot had already chased down a student once before and he really didn't want to do it again. "It's well past curfew you should be in bed," he added, aiming for stern.

Ryan tried to stay still, resisting the urge to run away, but the prefect got closer and Ryan knew it was hopeless as the first bit of light from his lit wand hit Ryan's shoes. He shuffled forward glumly, already wondering if it'd be worth waiting and sneaking back out after they were sent up to bed. "We're on a stakeout, it's important," he tried to explain, though past experience made Ryan think it was a waste of time. He wasn't really bothered about house points or detention, it was just annoying to have his progress cut short.

Allison was insanely relieved as they were spotted, but hid it well, looking almost guilty as she stepped out into the light with Ryan. She just hoped Thomas wouldn't hold this against her. Whatever he thought, she had to protect Stanis. Always. She ducked her head, rubbing the back of her neck. There had to have been some way around this. "He's right, it's very important," she chimed in, hoping this elder hufflepuff wouldn't be too harsh.

Elliot pursed his lips as the light from his wand illuminated too students crouched in a corner, wondering what exactly they might be up to that warranted someone ratting them out. He raised a dubious eyebrow when they tried to explain they were on a stake out, unimpressed with the explanation, especially since he'd had to stay up late to come catch them. "If it's an emergency you should tell a professor, otherwise I doubt it's important enough to be out so late," he said wearily. "What houses are you in? I'm afraid I need to take 10 points from each of you for breaking curfew," Elliot added with a sigh, motioning the pair to get up so he could start herding them back to bed. He hated taking points, it always made him feel like the bad guy, but Elliot knew it was important, especially as head boy, to make sure he was being an appropriate authority figure.

Ryan frowned when the headboy ignored their assertions, begrudingly moving from his spot in the corner. Maybe if he and Allison were quick they could still sneak back out again before dawn, though he'd have to find a way to communicate the plan to her with the headboy noticing. "Ravenclaw," he said sourly, heading over to the staircase and trying to catch Allison's eye as they moved. Maybe she was a secret legilimens and she could read his mind. Ryan tried to think very heard about sneaking out later, seeing if he could broadcast it to Allison. Though maybe the head boy was also a legilimens. That would make things more difficult.

Allison was a little dismayed when she noticed that Ryan was still planning to come out. She didn't want to sneak out again, but she couldn't leave him to his own devices. "Gryffindor." She told the head boy. She walked slowly, trying to think up a new plan. She was hoping that they dropped off Ryan first, so she could talk to the head boy. Maybe if she got him in on sabotaging their stake out then she could protect Stanis without Ryan getting suspicious.

It was a relief that the pair were allowing themselves to be herded up the stairs with little resistance. Elliot chalked it up for them being a bit older than the last pair of girls he'd had to wrangle and he was grateful for it. He nodded as they gave him their houses, making a mental note to deduct the points. It wasn't fun, handing out punishments, and Elliot's stomach still felt uneasy and fluttering any time he had to put on any level of authority. Hopefully the darkness of the castle made his nerves less obvious.

It was unfortunate that both students were in houses so far out of the way though, and Elliot grimly committed himself to a long trek up both towers before he could go back to bed. "Right, Gryffindor first then, come on. Back to your houses," he said, waving them up the stairs so he could drop them both off at their common rooms.

Ryan hoped his little attempt at telepathy had worked, it was hard to read Allison's expression in the dark stairwell, and he wasn't going to risk trying to pass her a note. Or write one. Not with the head boy lurking around. It was frustrating to have tonight fall apart like this, knowing they didn't have another full moon until after the school holidays. And now Ryan had to walk all the way up to Ravenclaw tower and then back down without being caught if he even hoped to spot any werewolves. What a waste. Sighing, Ryan trudged up the stairs, wondering if it was better to try and catch a few hours sleep and then sneak back before dawn. Would that be harder to convey to Allison than his previous plan? Maybe if he wiggled his eyebrows at her she'd get it. He like to think he had very communicative eyebrows.
