Pearl had picked out this dress long before the yule ball, she had found it over the winter break as she had wandered around the local town she lived by. She'd managed to speak with the owner and spun a tale so good the dress had been a bargain. Anything less and it would've been theft. It was a nice dress, and she thought it looked very, very nice on her. She walked into the great hall, in part with a plan, she had to find someone who'd be willing at some point to pretend they were her friend to Mischa. She knew this would be the place to look for it, because everyone was happy and amongst friends, apart from the few who'd be entirely alone and jealous. They would be her target. She needed a girl, but could maybe spin a boy. She walked into the great hall with a purpose and glancing about to see if she could spot what she required.

Emery mostly went to these events out of a vague sense of curiosity, though he never stayed very long. Dances and balls weren't really his thing. He had put on some vaguely nice shirt and even bothered with a tie, and now entered the great hall with a slight frown on his face as he took in the decorations. They were very different from last year, though he had thought it had been fine last year. The flowers were pretty cheerful, though. Emery found a spot near one of the walls to observe the crowd for a moment, wondering vaguely if he'd ever dance with someone at an event like this. Probably not.

Pearl spotted a boy near a wall, this would be difficult. He seemed like a boy who would be a little difficult to persuade to do what she needed to, but perhaps he knew a girl or someone that she could use for her own ends. Pearl grabbed another drink and then walked over to him. ”You look bored,” she said, holding out the drink for him. She wasn't sure if she could get this to work, but it was absolutely worth a try. She'd maybe just have to learn to spin it right.

Emery looked up as he heard someone approach. He spotted Pearl, one of his classmates, and she spoke to him. He frowned a bit, remembering their only other real interaction when she had been in the lake. She was a weird girl. “Because I am.” He said, glancing at the drink without taking it. He wasn’t sure if he could trust it.

Pearl thought it was a bit odd that he didn't take the drink, but he did speak. "Oh really, why are you here then if you're bored?" she asked, getting to the root of his issue might help her or just give her something to work with for her whole Gwen situation. "Here, take it, I haven't poisoned it, promise," she wasn't sure if she'd spoken to this boy before, or if he'd know that she was often a liar, though on this occasion, she really hadn't done anything to the boy's drink.
