Admittedly attending the event with Xavier was a bit lonely. She just wanted him to be here with her, so that they could spend the time together, but she knew that it wouldn’t matter, she would still enjoy the fun she could have at this event. The teen was dressed in a floor length gown and she felt smart. She didn’t know what she would do, she was without her usual partner in all of this, and though they hadn’t ever been together together. She missed him a lot, though perhaps she also just missed having someone who she could talk to as easily as she could talk to him. There was nothing complicated with them, so maybe she missed that. The teen wandered into the room, holding up the hem of her dress as she walked in. The girl spotted her cousin Andi dancing with a boy Signy vaguely knew from the school, older than them, but she didn’t walk over to her. Instead kept to herself not approaching anyone else, admittedly, maybe a little nervous to. Instead she just went to the snack table and picked up something to just vaguely munch on as the event occurred around her.

Joshua had plan to escort his sister Jenna to the Yule Ball. Much like last year, they were supposed to go together. At the last minute, Jenna came down with a nasty stomach virus and couldn't attend the ball. That left Joshua without a date and suit to wear for the dance. He didn't let that discourage him to go, he did the opposite and showed up anyways. This whole thing, of him going up against his fear was really taking control over him. Joshua didn't agree with it half time, but did things either way. Perhaps he would find something to write about in the next Hogwarts Monthly, that was a good enough reason to attend. The Ravenclaw moved in and out of the crowd of students. Joshua wander aimlessly for a while until he stopped by the snack table. He reached for some loose candies in a bowl and munch on them quietly near another student. Joshua briefly made eye contact with her, and noted she seemed rather down. "Are y-you okay?"

Having separated from Nixon, Tristan felt a little strange. This was the first time in years that he was at a dance without a date by his side, and it felt strangely freeing. He could look around to his heart's content while Nixon was busy taking his photos, with a meeting later on to look forward to. Tristan's eye was caught by his fellow prefect and classmate Signy Forstrom. She had always been pretty cute, but the dress she was wearing tonight elevated her to beautiful. It wouldn't hurt to talk to her to pass the time. Tristan straightened his jacket, then walked over with a confident smile. But just as he was nearby, a younger boy got between him and Signy and spoke to her. Tristan decided not to let this deter him. He cleared his throat, then smiled at them both. "Hello Signy, you look beautiful tonight." He told her, nodding at her. Then he looked to the boy, and back at her. "Is this a friend of yours?" He asked, mostly looking at her and not at the younger boy. Surely Tristan was better company than him, and surely Signy could see that.

Signy was keeping her expression, or attempting to keep it neutral, but when she made eye contact with another student one a little younger than her. A boy, who had clearly picked up on the fact that Signy wasn’t too happy. ”Oh yeah, just you know,” she motioned vaguely not sure that she wanted to get too much into what was going on in her head, since there was little point in it. This boy was younger and he might understand a little it wasn’t like it was something that he had maybe interacted with and she didn’t entirely want to bring down the mood. But she was more surprised when Tristan cleared his throat. She didn’t know the boy well, they didn’t run in the same circles but she was always keen to get to know him, since they did share a house, were prefects together and in a lot of the same classes. She smiled and blushed lightly, ”Thanks Tristan, you look as handsome as ever,” she returned the compliment, meaning it to since the boy in her mind had always been the sort to be dressed nice, to make an effort in his appearance. Very different from Xavier who’d always borrowed suits but she knew she preferred him. At his question she shook her head, ”Not yet at least,” she could appreciate the gesture of trying to be kind and reaching out to someone so she wouldn’t dismissed him outright, ”I’m Signy by the way,” she told the younger boy, ”Hows your night going Tristan?” she wasn’t sure if Tristan was still with whomever she had last seen him with, but she didn’t think it was her place to get too involved either.

Joshua hadn't notice the boy drawing near and was practically startled out of his skin, though he acted in a way that it didn't seem so obvious. Joshua peaked over at the older boy and then back to the older girl again. From what he gather so far, they appear to be close friends or somewhere along those lines. Joshua yet to compliment a girl so boldly, the way the old boy did. Joshua would dream to be that approachable, not a social skill he yet to master. "I'm Joshua, didn't m-mean to interrupt," Joshua apologized, pushing both his hands into his pants pocket. Then a crazy thought came to mind, maybe they were together or something? Like she had been waiting for the older boy. It still didn't explain to him why she was sporting a pout at Hogwarts most festive night of the year. Joshua wonder quietly, looking away feeling a little awkward standing there. "It's nice meeting you, Signy. An-nd you too," Joshua made a point to look at the older, intimidating boy. His neck flushed, Joshua pulled at his collar to ease him.

Tristan could tell from Signy's expression that she wasn't having a great time, and was glad to see his comment made her smile as well as blush.. That was promising. It was Tristan's intention to keep things casual with Nixon, so he would need a different date to the Valentine's dance. Signy was definitely a possibility, if she was willing. Her compliment made him grin, and he squared his shoulders slightly. "Thank you." He told her graciously. "I'm flattered you think me handsome usually, apparently." He teased slightly, tilting his head a little. He was glad to hear the boy she was talking to wasn't her date, but he hadn't really thought so. "I see." He said lightly, then he focused on her question to him. "My night is going pretty well, though my date is now busy with his yearbook duties unfortunately." He sighed softly. "Perhaps we could keep each other company for the rest of the evening?" He glanced at the boy who had introduced himself as Joshua, wishing the boy would go away but knowing better than to say so in front of Signy. He smiled at him. "It's nice to meet you as well, you're not interrupting as we're just talking. Don't worry." The boy looked uncomfortable around him, and Tristan wasn't displeased to know he was intimidating to him. "I'm Tristan Collins." He added, as he didn't think he had introduced himself yet.
