Kala's House

Kari crinkled his nose and put a hand on his little sister's head ruffling her hair. "Well fine then I'll leave you to be." As he walked to the open kitchen he saw the box in Kala's hands. He frowned but didn't say anything. While he cooked in the kitchen he watched and listened.

"I'm sorry for that," Angela said rubbing her arm shyly. "I, i don't have something against him, it's just." She sighed. "Stupid."

Kala turned to Angela. "You didn't have to be so scared. Kari is a really nice person." Kala sighed. "If your that scared maybe you should just leave."

Angela looked down. She smiled and wrinkled her nose. "Like my mom always says, 'Guys shouldn't rin anyhting'. I can deal with this!"

Kala rolled her eyes. She put a lid on her presious box, half the items still unseen and put it back in the closet. When she sat next to Angela she muttered to her. "Your going to need to learn to get over your phobia of guys. School is coming up and I"m sure there are going to be plenty of guys that are many years older than us."

She sighed. "I know that. And I'm sure i will soon enough! it's just ever since my dad died, i have trouble with older men!" She then started laughing. "At least i wont hit on your brother."

Kari walked in and set down a plate of sea food treats. "There you go Kala, all of your favorites." He walked back to the kitchen to clean up the mess.

Kala looked down at her feet. "My dad died to you know."

"sea food?" Angela asked. "I love sea food, too!" She said before Kala made a comment about her father. Agela nodded. "I'm sorry, i know how you feel. i was seven when mine died."

Kala sighed while shaking her. To keep frm saying anything she shoved a treat into her mouth and tried to concetrate on the sweet and salty taste.

"What's wrong?" Angela asked.

She knew she had said something wrong. She just knew it, she ahd always somehow ruind everything that she ever came into contact with.

Kala swallowed hard and took a drink of her sour lemonaid to clear her throat. "Just forget it." She took another bite of her food.

Angela looked down and picked up a piece of food, popping it into her mouth. She knew she had done something wrong. Maybe if she told her the truth.

"You can't do that! she wont want to be your friend." Said the voice in her head. "She'll be just like you sister, Alley, and maybe worse!"

"Shut up!" She yelled silently to the voice.

Kala sighed as the silence consumed the room.

"Tink," she said, making a point that you could hear a pin drop.

"Then speak." Kala put another treat in her mouth. The bad feelings making it taste sour.

"Um.. Arf," she said making a bit of a dog sound.

Kala couldn't help but laugh. She swallowed hard so she wouldn't choke. "Nice."

"You said speak. i can also roll over and play dead!"

Kala rolled her eyes and threw a chip at Angela. "You are so a riot."

She caught the chip in her mouth and smiled big. "I hope that's a good thing," she said looking like a dork.

Kari walked in to see his sister throw chips at her friend. In a stren but soft voice he said, "Kala you make a mess you clean it up. We may be poor but we are not pigs."

Angela did her best and kept the smile on her face. "So where do you work?" Seh asked nicely.

Kari frowned at her question. He still didn't have a stable job. "I just do a few odds and ends jobs around New Zealand." He felt his worry knowing that after school started Kala would be on her own for a while.

Kala tried to redirct the conversation. She could tell Kari was worried. "So Angela? Are you excited about school?"
