James' tie was bugging him. He knew it would even before he put it on, how could it not when it was almost choking him. A ball really wasn't James' thing and when he first started at the beginning of the year he had no intention of going along to it. That all changed of course when he met Amy, having someone to ask made all the difference in the world. James and Amy had decided to go to the Ball as friends, it was far too early for them to put any kind of pressure on whatever it was they had, after all they were still getting to know each other. He suspected he would get some looks of Maddie if she saw him walking in with Amy, the thought of it only made him smile. The Gryffindor's disdain for him only ever seemed to amuse him. With one last look to make sure his tie was straight and his jacket and shirt were clean and pressed properly James made his way down to the Great hall.
