It's time.

Leah sat on the couch in the flat of her and her husband's flat, petrified. It had been a hard day and she didn't want this, not now, not today. She wasn't ready. There was no one home, and she wasn't sure she could manage alone. She sat silently, breathing fast, knowing that at any moment things were going to get serious.
Getting to her feet, she staggered over to the phone. She could call her muggle neighbours. She no longer attended beauxbatons and had lost most of the contact from her friends. She needed Alex. She needed anyone actually.

Alex was home from his job. Putting the key into the lock he walked into his flat, flinging his coat down on a near-by chair. "Leah?" he called out, looking for his wife. Walking into the lounge his face went white. He stood there, shocked, freezing. He had no idea what to do, no matter how much they'd tried to prepare themselves for this. He turned instantly, not only to fetch someone else, but because he couldn't stand being the only person around her at this time.

THREE HOURS LATER


Leah was lying on her bed, she wasn't sure what she'd missed, she must have blanked out. Something didn't feel right. She sat up startled. She was on her own again. Her head felt hot and clammy as she looked around. Her head stopped moving as her eyes focused on a small pink bundle lying the cot next to her. She'd had a baby. Sliding out from under the duvet she approached the tiny creature, her arms reaching out for her. She knew it was a baby girl, the scan had told her that weeks ago. With her daughter in her arms she kissed the stop of her head, carful of how delicate she was. She didn't want to let go of her, it was nice just to have a moment on her own.
