After how his first year as captain had ended Chase had been seriously considering handing over the captain title to someone else. He had thought him becoming captain had been a joke when he was first told the news and this only confirmed that. It had been a joke. Just in a different way. And that was putting it lightly. A disaster was more like it. Between their losses, the hitting benched players and somehow managing to hit himself there wasn't much he could be proud of. Which was exactly why he was reluctant to head to the pitch for try outs today. He wouldn't even be surprised if his players all quit and no one showed up. Nor would he blame them.

Chase scribbled some things down on his paper as he waited for anyone to arrive, mostly to look busy and distract himself from his anxiousness. Needless to say he was relieved when people started showing up. At least they still liked quidditch. "Welcome. I'm going to keep this simple. Any returning players: thanks for coming back, I know we didn't have the best year. I trust you guys know what to do. Alternates will need to try out again. Any new players please state your name and what position you're trying out for. We don't have much available, but we'll see what happens."

Callie was very eager to get back on to the pitch, she wasn't allowed to do it outside of school and her parents weren't always keen to listen to her talk about it. She had her broom, and then listened eagerly to the captain and then shot up into the air eagerly.

Penelope really wanted to win the Quidditch cup this year, it was her final chance. She showed up at tryouts and nodded at Chase, then took to the air to see who would try out and how they would mesh with the rest of the team.

Marley was defiantly ready for anything quidditch. Even though they didn’t do so great in the previous season, Marley was pumped for this year. She had hopes they’d do great this year. The fourth year happily made her way down to the quidditch pitch for the tryouts. She couldn’t wait to see and meet those who would be trying out. Marley listened carefully to Chase, nodding along to what he had to say. It wasn’t long before they were all up in the air. Marley practised her hits when she could as well as defending players too. She then practised and helped those who were trying out.

Sofi arrived for tryouts with her heart pounding and nerves jangling. She had been secretly training all holiday, away from Morrie, who would surely call her a copycat if she knew what she was doing. Sofi took a deep breath, stepped forward, and announced, "Sofi Ayre, trying out for seeker."

With that, she mounted her broom and took to the skies. She circled the pitch, her eyes scanning for the snitch. Then she saw it hovering near the goalposts. Sofi raced forward, her heart pounding as the wind rushed past her. She extended her hand, fingers outstretched, and clutched her hand around the snitch. She held her catch up, then releasing it again and gave chase. She missed the snitch the second time and it was out of sight, but she quickly recalibrated, determined to catch it again.

Sofi flew higher until she spotted the snitch beneath her. She dived, then as the snitch veered sharply to the right, she leaned into the turn, and with a final burst of speed, she reached out and snatched the snitch out of the air for a second time. She pulled up from her dive, holding the snitch aloft for everyone to see. Her heart was racing, but a smile spread across her face. By the end of tryouts, Sofi felt good. It was okay if she didn’t make the team as an alt, but she really hoped that she had done enough to impress the captain.

Bailey had enjoyed her time on the team the previous year but she had only been alternate. She had worked hard in practice but she hadn’t seen a single minute on the pitch so she didn’t know if she had been able to impress her captain enough, and all that was meaningless anyway, even if she had played every match she had only made the team as an alternate which meant she had to try-out again. Her spot on the team was not guaranteed and she had already seen a number of younger students gunning for her role as alternate seeker. Bailey hoped she had done enough during the previous year to keep her spot. Penelope was in her final year after all and if Bailey could stay on the team she had a good chance of taking over for her once she graduated.

After listening to Chase’s speech to the players hoping to make the team Bailey grabbed hold of her broom and stepped forward to announce her intentions to the captain. “Bailey Walden-Cade, trying out for seeker again,” She smiled warmly at the captain, hoping he would take into account the work she did the previous year when factoring in his decision. Bailey climbed onto her broom and lifted up into the air and waited until she was able to spot the snitch.

Being up in the air, high above any of the other players who were trying to make the team, Bailey could almost forget she was in a try out. It could have just been any other practice, she just had to keep her eyes peeled and wait, for that flicker of gold. It came, eventually and it appeared in the corner of her eye. She reacted quickly, turning on her broom and darting forward in the direction of where she thought the snitch was. As she sped forward and closed the gap between the glint that darted around in the air, the snitch came into view. Bailey leaned forward on her broom to get closer and closer to the snitch and once she was in reach she held out her arm and closed her hand around the golden ball. Bailey held her hand aloft as she returned to the ground with the snitch in her hand.

Artemis Vasilakis was so ready to win the cup this year. She was a good chaser, at least, she thought that she was. She smiled at the captain as he spoke, though it did not seem like there were any graduates, so the only new ones would be the alternates, unless some of the other team did not show up. Artie took a hold of her broom, and then soared up to help the other chasers. She certainly missed flying.

Oz wasn't 100% keen for Quidditch, but he'd made a commitment and he'd try his best. He did want to get better at it, at least be able to score goals and not miss all the time. He went about practicing throwing and shooting, passing to new players trying out more so however because they were the ones who needed to show what they could do.

Dominic was excited for a new year of Quidditch. He was happy to attend that year's tryouts and watch some new faces try out for the team. There were no permanent positions available unfortunately, however there were alternate ones, and Dominic wondered who would be his alternate this year if something happened and he couldn't play. The teen gathered around as the older Hufflepuff spoke and then headed into the skies when the practice started, happy to help people try out for keeper by throwing some shots towards them. When it ended, the boy thanked the captain for the session and headed back to the castle.

Jonah Edogawa had been looking forward to joining the Quidditch House Team all his life. Of course, he'd wished that he would be on a team with Ro and Eli but neither of them liked playing the game as much as Jonah did. And now that they were in different houses (which still irritated Jonah to no end) it was probably for the best that it was only him among his siblings who was interested in trying out as far as he knew. And so he practically skipped and strolled to the Hufflepuff House tryouts (he didn't know that this was not really for first-years like him). He'd arrived just in time too to hear who he thinks is the captain announce that they had to state their name and position. "I'm Jo and I play chaser all the time," he said before grabbing a quaffle and taking off into the skies, not really hearing anything else.

Jonah loved Quidditch. His kaa-chan always told them that she had them all up on brooms as babies, and well, he also couldn't remember a time he didn't know how to ride a broom so she was definitely telling the truth. It was also nice that he and his siblings played different positions on the team. He'd always loved being a chaser though and that's what he was showing his housemates right now as he flew from one end of the pitch to the other. He tried shooting the quaffle a couple of times, very few got in but Jo thinks that it's because he's never really played on an actual pitch before! It was really exciting though! He even got to pass the quaffle to the others who were trying out. He also got passed the quaffle a few times. All in all, by the time Jonah landed, he'd had an amazing time. This was probably the first time since getting sorted that he was happy in his house. Now he just had to get into the team! "How'd I do?!" he asked the captain excitedly, almost jumping with nerves or energy or maybe both.
