THE BIG FIVE-O
The peaceful party
By Eoghan Blyth (Zephie)
We're back with another issue of Hogwarts Monthly, although slightly smaller than last semester. I can only presume that with the remaining festivities ongoing through the year, students have been keen to involve themselves directly than write about the events. Nevertheless, I hope this is a pleasant read for those students looking for some material to gaze over their breakfast, perhaps prior to the upcoming graduation, where we say goodbye to another set of seventh years.

Top 10 flowers to gift and their meanings
Have you ever received flowers and just thought they look pretty? There might be a hidden meaning behind the specific bouquet you received. If you are a plant enthusiast you may know of the secret meanings of these flowers and if you are not? Well don’t worry I am here to explain!
  1. Roses - Roses are the most commonly sent flowers, as we might know from Hogwarts Valentine’s deliveries, they often convey feelings such as adoration, love and passion, however different colours mean different things. Here are a few examples: Red - Love, Passion. Yellow - Friendship and Joy. Pink - Sweetness and Elegance.
  2. Tulips - Tulips are another very common flower to send, much like roses the different colours may convey different emotions. White - Forgiveness. Red - Love (surprise shawty). Yellow - Cheerfulness.
  3. Daisies - Daisies commonly known meaning is beauty, innocence and new beginnings. They make a beautiful bouquet and thus usually are aesthetically chosen, not much meaning other than that.
  4. Carnations - I think we are seeing a theme here, because just like Roses and Tulips, the message behind a bouquet of Carnations can heavily depend on the colour. Here are a few examples: White - A good choice to wish someone you care about ‘good luck’. Pink - Gratitude.
  5. Black Eyed Susans - In many cultures you can find that these flowers represent encouragement, protection, motivation and endurance. If you want to give a thoughtful gesture that may mean one of those listed above, black eyed susan could be the perfect choice of flower to send.
  6. Sunflowers - These flowers are probably to most a sign of cheeriness, their resemblance to the sun symbolize love, loyalty, admiration and cheerfulness. If you want to make someone’s day with a cheerful bouquet this is the flower for you. Probably.
  7. Orchids - Orchids bear a myriad of meanings such as appreciation, unity and respect. White orchids especially are a representation of new beginnings so a beautiful gesture for someone who may be starting a new chapter in their lives.
  8. Lotus - though perhaps not as common to send as some of the ones above, these flowers are utterly beautiful and breathtaking. Their ability to grow and thrive without any stains in muddy places symbolises purity, rebirth and overcoming. A lotus bouquet may also prompt feelings such as peace and harmony.
  9. Lavender - Lavender is most commonly associated with grace, devotion and higher purpose. Though its lovely purple flower can add a nice pop of colour too, its scent helping to relax.
  10. Daffodils - Though last on this list the flower doesn’t come with any shortage of meaning. With daffodils you can convey many messages such as those of self-love, hope, respect and so much more.
Here is the completed top 10 flowers list, I hope this can help someone to pick which flowers to send and if not…. then well at least I hope it was an interesting read? Meanings from: Lovepop.com

QUIDDITCH Y50 S2
By Magdalene Grey (Kiersten)
We're back with your second-semester Quidditch coverage. Unfortunately, two out of three games ended in a forfeit, with Hufflepuff versus Ravenclaw ending in a forfeit in favor of no one and the Gryffindor versus Beauxbatons game ending in favor of Gryffindor.

However, the Slytherin versus Gryffindor game ended in favor as well. Gryffindor placed their alternate seeker Felix Layton in the line-up for the game, replacing sixth-year Aroha Blenheim. The game started with Chaser Ivy Cullen claiming the quaffle but failing to score. Sybil St. James grabbed the quaffle next, also failing to score, but St. James managed to gain her team some points when the quaffle sailed through the hoops on her next attempt. However, very soon after, Gryffindor seeker Felix Layton managed to snag the snitch, giving Gryffindor a triumph once again.

While it may be an issue on the shorter side right now, I still appreciate those that take the time to write for the paper. If you're reading this and you think next year you have something you want to put forward, you're more than welcome to sign up. For now however, I hope during the summer you're able to find something that brings you joy, even if it may mean that you're away from those you've grown closest to, and we'll be back next year with some new members, articles and events!

Thank you to our readers, and for the members of the club for making my first year as Editor feel welcoming. I'm looking forward to working with you over the coming years!

See you next time (Or if you're a seventh year, goodbye and good luck!)
- Eoghan
